Honestly getting paid to leave a plot is not very different from selling wedding bangles. It's possible, it can be done, but Yoshida said to "please don't do it". The way I see it, housing the way it is currently intended, is supposed to work in the way that you buy a plot, and when you no longer want it, you just relinquish it and leave it for anyone else to take it. You're not supposed to get gil back from relinquishing a plot, from the game or from other players. If SE wanted house owners to get money for relinquishing a plot, they would've already implemented a sell system or a refund system. The lack thereof of said system is, to me, a sign that they don't want you to get gil for leaving a plot, and I think this is where the "violation" stands. Housing is a gil sink, and thus is not supposed to be a way to make profit off of it (example: claiming a small plot for 5M and then trying to make someone pay you 15M to leave it). Just like selling bangles, you are doing something that they did not want to be intended in the game, but that at the same time they cannot contrast because the mechanics allow it. So again, it's more a case of "please don't do it".

I agree that some chat moderation would be nice. I stopped using it after stumbling into some ERP paragraphs in it that I really could've made without, myself. <_<;
-
I usually go /doze in a bed for my AFKs. If I don't, it's because it was a sudden one.
-
Maybe he simply means that making someone pay to relinquish a plot is a violation (and honestly, that's how it always felt like to me. It's just unfair to make someone pay more than what the game already forces them to). If you leave your plot without making anyone pay for you to leave, it should be fine.

I don't use quotation marks. I probably would use them if I was doing an /em, but I don't (99.9% of my RP is in LS channel, can't /em there), but in /say or /l? Nah. I simply type t in, much like NPCs. If I have to add an action in /say or /l, I simply put *..* on it. Blue: Hello. *Turns to look at the new person.* It definitely is not an error to not use quotation marks, because the NPCs do not (and I'm not talking about the balloons. If you set your chatlog to show NPC dialogue in it, you will see no quotation marks. Perhaps it's because of my RP group interacting with NPCs on a daily basis, but we try to stick to what they do in terms of text usage.

This thread should be gated behind 2.55 3.0 completion.

They can still be redeemed, but you have to make sure it's a code of matching region. I had an onion helm US code, and couldn't use it because my XIV account is an EU one. I was however able to redeem it on a second US account I made.

If you go to the Calamity Salvanger in Ul'dah and look in the direction he is facing, across from him you will see a door attached to a very tall building. I always thought that was a perfect spot to put instance-based apartment type housing. Bigger then a personal room, maybe the size of two rooms with a wall and door dividing them. Not sure where you could find such a place in the other cities but yeah. That place is related to the BLM storyline however, so it already has a purpose of sorts. Personally, I think that after a certain Lalafell's demise, the Platinum Mirage could be repuporsed as a luxury apartments building. Though, in order for it to make sense, it'd require to have 2.55 completed, so probably not...

Ohhh boy, just one? I'd like a full-animal four-legged playable race. And if I could choose which animal, I'd of course vote for horses (or a variant of that). They're all my life. However, I'd not allow this race to be designed by the same guy who designed the existing horse/unicorn mounts. Those are damn awful to me and have all their joints in the wrong places. I'd hire whoever it is who designed the Uma kabutos for them. THOSE were proper horses.

[Balmung] Looking to buy a Free Company with Large Size Estate
Blue replied to Blue's topic in Chronicled Connections
Update: offer has raised to 58M. Also, as a side-note.. I have been receiving several whispers from people who saw this thread and wanted to buy our current FC house... I am truly sorry, but we cannot do that. We have taken a vote among our FC members, and it was decided to not give away our current home without first finding a new one (the large one, in fact). Our members do not wish to stay homeless. So an apology again, but the Small plot we have is a part of the bargain. If we happen to find a new, large home without having to give away our small one (for example, if we magically found an empty large plot), our small plot will be simply relinquished without fee asked. Being paid to relinquish a plot is against our policies, and as such, we do not plan to sell our small plot. We will just leave it, for free, when we find a new home. -
All right, here goes my own opinion as a Keeper male and female RPer. Keep in mind, the lore we have is stuff that goes a long while back, and times are a bit more modern than then even for Keepers, so it's perfectly natural to find Keeper RPers with a different perspective than my own. Also I'd like to reiterate that the term clan is a community bias. The "clans" of the Miqo'te are Keeper of the Moon and Seeker of the Sun, so Keepers cannot be split in clans themselves. They are more correctly referred to as families. While there are no specific outfits of Keepers, they are nocturnal, so colors that are more fit with the night may be a more obvious choice of clothing. Whether they'd wear forest clothes or not depends on you, as Keepers have been living far and wide in recent times, and have surely adapted to city clothing as well. They are very proud of their face paint however, said to give lunar powers, so night/lunar colors may be preferred by them, but it's not a must. Simply put, they have adapted and come out to live in Gridania. They used to be in conflict, but now it's mostly a matter of some racist bias from Gridanians (who are generally xenophobic as you may experience in the very early quests there), and who tend to think that Keeper/Duskwight = bandit. Keepers are a more brooding and solitary type, so living alone is also perfectly legit. If they live in groups, it is usually small families (mother, daughters, sisters, aunts and their offspring at most), with males ending up leaving the family as soon as they can be indipendent, and wander on their own. NOTE: That male Keepers are wanderers and do not stick to the family was a lore bomb that SE added via Moogle mail quests much later after 2.0 launch, and for some, including me (Ironically, SE copied my idea of what Keeper families worked like and put them as lore for the Dazkar Xaela <.<) it was a total disaster, because it went against everything I had RPd up to that point.

I still think that the best solution would be to add an "IC/Roleplaying" status icon in-game. I have been asking SE a couple times already both on the official forum (one of my most successful threads, everyone was answering positively to it, even those who don't like RPers), and via the Send a Suggestion feature in-game, but so far we have no news about it unfortunately. To actually KNOW someone is looking for roleplay and is not just afking in a cool posture goes a long way towards encouraging roleplaying. A status icon right next to your name that informs me you are In Character and wishing to be approached, more so even one that allowed me you to find you through Search, would be the best thing in the world to me, and even a shy person like me would at least send a whisper in direction of someone with that over their head. There is the search message, that is true, but I honestly am one of those that does not look at that, unless I -already- know the person is RPing and I want to see if it contains some information about their character. For example, I don't use my Search Box to say if I'm IC or not (I'm way too lazy and forgetful to change it so often), but rather to inform others of what my character is in a small summary ("Keeper Wizard", "Xaela child" "Ala Mhigan refugee", etc.). That way I don't have to update it often and can forget about it. A status icon instead would be much easier and quick to notice and toggle on or off to inform when I want to RP, and when instead I don't have time for it. Maybe I'm just standing by the quicksands to watch others' RP, or maybe I just want to craft that day, and don't feel like being walked up for IC interactions. I think in short that not exactly knowing who is RPing and who isn't is a big part of the wallflowering problem, and that a visible hint could help a lot. SE has already acknowledged RPers by adding the RP icon to free company description, so I trust that if there is sufficient demand, we shall receive a response about it. I'm sure it would be used a lot more than the Looking for Meld one, at the very least.

I have been wondering about RPing disabilities for a while, myself. Mental and physical disadvantages have always been controversial in video games, with escapists saying that "people with disabilities play games to forget their disabilities, they don't want to see them in there too", and others instead insisting that the lack of characters with disabilities in most of videogames is to be considered discriminative of people who have them IRL, because it's like refusing to acknowledge their existence. A huge example is the many threads of discussion for the Sims games to include chairbound, blind, deaf etc. avatars in their games. It's a big actual controversy sadly, which often comes down to the company deciding if they have a solid enough amount of demand from the players to use it to protect themselves from the arguments against the implementation of such. So, again, it's subjective. I cannot speak for many disabilities myself so I will not pretend like I can. The closest I have to that is my face being disfigured from a nasty scar (I was bit by my dog when I was 7), and personally, seeing characters with scars does not bother me. But it's subjective, and I cannot guarantee that RPing a mentally imparied character will not bother one who happens to have the same problem IRL. I'm also not going to say that "Only people with X disability, X race, or X illness, or X diet, or X religion, or X sexual orientation should RP that", because then Jim Carrey shouldn't have acted as a gay man, or X shouldn't have played the role of a blind girl, or no not-chairbound fan of the X-man should cosplay as Doctor Xavier. The challenge of diversity is one of the beautiful things of being an actor/roleplayer, and it shouldn't be avoided. What should be avoided though, is to do it without proper research. So I'd say, go ahead, but get research done and always remember to RP your nature with respect and dignity for those you are representing.

I'm hoping this is sarcasm. But I can't tell. It's not...? If you feel I deserved a permanent ban for those things and that forum-banned players shouldn't deserve to vote, good for you. But there is no need to mock me for something that genuinely hurts me and that I have been trying to apologize for several times directly at SE. A mistake a year should not warrant a permanent, never-forgiving ban to me. I wouldn't hold a grudge to anyone who wronged me once a year, myself.
-
My main complaint on the voting system is that it didn't allow access to all players, as some of us got banned from the boards (and it's VERY easy to get banned. I got banned for using the word "prick" once, for using a gif with the word "bitch, please" that was supposed to make fun of MYSELF, and for reporting a cheater with a screenshot that didn't have all names hidden, and these 3 things happened respectively in 2015, 2014 and 2013, so it's not even "so many mishaps in one year". They will count your sins from the very moment you register). I wish they had used the Lodestone or a poll on the client instead. I felt horribly excluded.

Yes, we have been doing this every couple days for the past month. Only got some pretty negative whispers so far, but we'll keep trying! -

That would be great...! But, unfortunately, right now we don't have enough to pay a relinquished plot (once relinquished, they go up to 70M or more depending on the plot's class). So even if he relinquished it for free, our 55M would not be enough to reclaim the plot, and someone else would likely get it before it devalues low enough for us to do it.. That's why we're looking at FC sellers, as passing over an FC requires no relinquishment. The only solution would be for someone to offer a mortgauge (sp?), but we don't really know anyone that rich in-game, nevermind one willing to do so. -
Keep in mind it's all salt water. Sea water is not fit for plumbing, nor for domestic use (rule n.1 of every shipwrecked: do NOT drink sea water). I doubt Eorzea has something as sophisticated as a purifying central for sea water yet. Venice (a city built on sea here in Italy) required a lot of time and effort to get a working plumbing system, and it's much more complex and sturdy than those on normal cities built on ground (in fact, prices for pretty much anything are much higher in there, as food, drinks, and overall anything comes from water). As for Ul'dah, we should not forget that Steps of Thal is, in theory, and with the exception of Sapphire Avenue and Pearl Lane, a part of the Sultana's palace, so the fountain there is kind of justified as being a luxury decoration. I doubt the Brass Blades there would let anyone go in and have a bath or drink from it (in fact, you can't even jump in it in-game). I think it's safe to say that plumbing is reserved only to the wealthy, and that others have to resort to collecting water from streams and wells or, a-la-FFXI, with water crystals.

Rather than a black mage, I RP Jet'a as a Cryomancer. His fire and thunder thaumaturgy are extremely weak, but in turn he focused his studies and practice on the element of ice. As a result, while his magic is not as distructive as the one of a black mage wielding the control of fire and striking thunders, he has instead developed a major control of the element of ice, which allows him to ICly do things such as summon certain shapes of ice (protective barriers, stalactites to stab opponents, ice blades to turn his staff into a spear --though mind you, he doesn't have the physical strength of a real lancer), and some neat trucks such as freezing clueless henchmen's faces and stopping their breathing by obstructing their orifices with ice. That's a specialization that I decided to go for with his character. And no, he's not going to sing Let It Go. Just... let that joke... go.

Challenge accepted *xenophobic judging hateful glance* è____é *glaaaaaaaaaaares*

As a xenophobic thaumaturge RPer myself, I can assure you Jet'a would highly disapprove of Ul'dahn thaumaturgy being in the hands of a filthy Ishgardian!! Looking forward to exchange distrusting and hateful glares with you.

Welcome back Nara. I hope you find what you're looking for, as you remind me of a friend I had, and I certainly do feel your situation. Here's my quick two cents on the matter: I'm not sure if you still feel the way you felt when you wrote this post a long time ago, but I do believe this might be your first problem, and the number one thing you should work on to improve yourself and become more social. Do not discriminate pre-planning, scheduling, and OOC conversation. It is very important for roleplay, because friends will not read each others' minds and know when to log in, when one's free to RP, or when one's busy with raid, crafting, and the such. Also please please please check this thread back. I'm not sure if you're doing it, or if you're waiting for all these lovely players who have reached out to you to contact you in-game. There is a chance they won't, if you don't respond back here. And the fact that you've already said you're afraid to check the thread worries me. In order to have others care for you, you must show the same care by checking out their responses, and reply accordingly. You have left many threads (that you started) unanswered in the past. Maybe it's because of the negativity, and I understand that can be scary... but at the same time, there can't be "yes" if there is "no". You can't just get one side of things, you know? So the tl;dr of this is: read the answers to your threads, answer to people (either on the thread or via PMs) and do not discriminate pre-planning and scheduling. OOC communication is the only true way to social success. I hope that you won't take these words as mean or negative or to come from someone who doesn't understand, because I do understand your feelings. I have been RPing in XIV since 2013, and I still have no people that I RP/talk with on a daily basis who did not come from my older RP group on XI. I don't really have any "XIV-only" friends yet. So I know the feeling. The only difference between you and me is that this does not hurt me as much as it seems to be hurting you (in fact, I'm not really doing anything to improve my social situation, because right now I have other priorities and I feel fine with the old friends I have). Making friends is a matter of opening to others but also reaching out to others, and the latter cannot be done if you don't check posts and don't sit down to pre-plan or schedule time to spend with others OOC. Break these big two barriers of yours and you'll go great strides towards being a much more social person.
