  1. Fat bodies. They're rare, they're exotic, they're symbol of wealth and fertility. He'll be forever alone.. (Seriously, fat is rare and beautiful in Eorzea. That's why fat cats cost millions)
  2. We should also consider that Eorzean = English only for us with the English client. How would the lore work for the Japanese players? Would Domans and Eorzeans both speak the same tongue? Food for thought.
  3. Well, Clive is my Ala Mhigan character, and he is still fond of Garlemald, so.... the current flag is pretty much perfect for him
  4. Source: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Echo
  5. All the balloons with a different frame indicate that the other person is speaking another language that we understand thanks to the Echo. In particular, Lahabrea brings this up in one of your first encounters. He first speaks in Ascian (and his balloon is black/reddish), and upon seeing that our character understands what he's saying, he goes like "Ah, yes, the Echo, then I might as well address you in your language.". Examples of other balloons like this are seen when talking to Primals, meaning that they too speak a different language that we understand as Eorzean thanks to the Echo. That the Echo allows us to understand multiple languages is mentioned more in 1.0 than in 2.0 (because in 1.0 it was a very common power), but it definitely does. It's not a coincidence either that when we are prompted answers to give to an NPC, these answers are all written in that NPC's accent/dialect, indicating that not only we understand what they say, but can speak back in it, as well. tl;dr: Echo with languages works in a similar way of how Harry Potter could speak with snakes. He understood them as if they were speaking his tongue, and spoke back in what he thought to be his tongue, while to outside ears, in was in fact the opposite language.
  6. Ideally I prefer to use, and see used, emotes like "/em speaks to his connational in their native language, difficult to understand to those not from Othard.", and if someone watching thinks he should understand, they can send me a tell and I'll tell him what my character said. To see dialogues in a directly uncomprehensible language bothers me, and I think it'd bother others too if I started RPing in Italian in /say even though I can. More than anything though, it's mixed English and Japanese that makes me cringe ("You're so kawaii, Clive-chan!"), or the use of romanji in general. If you really want to RP in Japanese and not do it with an English emote like the one I mentioned earlier, at least use kanji so that I just see jibberish and don't bother trying to understand OOCly. As for what I do with my Au Ras, I tend to use those emotes when open-RPing. When close-RPing in LS instead, we use brackets to indicate that a certain english dialogue is being pronounced in Doman, so that those with Echo (most of us have IC Echo in our LS) can directly read and understand.
  7. Pretty sure all those beastmen conjurers did not go in Stillglade Fane >_>;; Worst to worst, just RP having been taught by a conjurer who was originary of Gridania and came to Othard for whatever reason.
  8. That was extended a long time ago. Now you can access to it whenever by consuming a certain food, even out of the city. I don't remember what emotes it has but I have heard others saying they could do it (and I'm sure in XIV they could, I mean, it's nothing different than what we got when we could glamour as the GC leaders). I'm just saying, it may not be out there yet, but I wouldn't say we'd "never" get it.
  9. Regarding the "children will never playable", I'd like to point out at FFXI, where we are able to receive child "glamours", under which we simply cannot fight monsters or use abilities. We can wander around and emote with them, exactly like children who cannot fight. So I wouldn't think it'd be too far of a stretch to give the same feature to XIV as well.
  10. Due to the vast limitations in the character's creator of this game, it is nearly impossible to go with the factors that our real life society brands as unattractive traits in people (fat is so rare in Eorzea, I'd dare think it's probably considered a rare and beautiful trait, I mean, look at the millions them rich Ul'dahns pay for a fat cat!). Yet, obviously we can't all be attractive, or we'd all fall for the first one who flirts with us and be married by the minute, right? So, without opening arguments of what is "right" or "wrong" to find attractive, and embracing the concept "to each their own", that everyone has different tastes, and without getting offended if you see your character's traits reflected into another RPer's definition of unattractive, what does YOUR character find unattractive in other people? Physically and mentally, as a friend and as a potential soul mate. You name it. --------------------------------------------------------------- What Jet'a finds unattractive: Physically: - Pretty much all the other races, and the opposite clan (he's extremely xenophobic); - Odd-coloured eyes (very "close" colors are tolerated for him however, like gray and light blue, or red and dark orange); - Leonine tails; - Over-elaborated hairstyles (the kind that you'd not bother putting up to go do the groceries or dump the trash outside); - Visible make-up (not counting symbolic, traditional face-paint); - Oversexualized attires. Mentally: - People who yell/speak loudly; - Men not paying women due respect (note: Jet'a's idea of respect for women is a bit over-the-top, as he was raised with the concept that they are superior to men); - Subdued women who let men command/order them about; - People who do not follow a religion nor pay their deity due attention and rituals; - Promiscuous/lecherous behavior in general on both genders. - People who have no sense of privacy or are quick to invade personal space, whether it's his own or others'. I'll think over the stuff for my other characters, cause I'll admit I never really thought about them as much (since Jet'a is so far the only character that I've had to deal with in terms of finding other people attractive or not). DISCLAIMER EDIT: I want to reiterate one more time that these tastes do not reflect my OOC ones. In fact, to avoid cases of OOC bleeding, I make it a focus to create characters that differ the most from my RL self. Secondly, not finding these traits attractive ICly doesn't mean that my character would HATE yours if he/she has these traits. It merely means my character wouldn't sleep with you nor vote you for Man/Woman of the Year. That's all.
  11. Hahaha Tied back up at 7/7 I do the hair to match the armor, so the highlights change to match what ever armor I'm wearing,Black is the only consistent color. :3 Hey, that's fine! Not like there aren't people who can't rock it!
  12. RP what job you want. If the game makes it possible, then it respects the lore. It's not more lore-breaking than choosing to be a Garlean or a Padjal or whatever else the game does not provide as an option. The only golden rule is do not flaunt it, do not make it the sole focus of your RP. "I'm a summoner and..." "See, us summoners..." "That is why as a summoner..." over and over and over in your RP lines will make people irked, but otherwise, no one will give a damn at what class you're RPing, and I say this as a year-long WHM RPer who has never encountered an arched eyebrow so far.
  13. I like the Skrillex hair the most out of the two, though personally I'm not a fan of opposite spectrum combinations for hair/eyes colors (white/black, blue/yellow, green/orange, red/blue, etc.).
  14. *pouts* Still nothing about new /cposes.... >_< I want to sidesaddle....!!
  15. One thing I was never legitimately sure was whether you'd need to count sisters also when naming a Miqo'te male. For example, if a male Miqo'te is born after two females sisters, is he to be named with the suffix 'a (because he is the first male to be born), or 'li (because he is the third to be born from his mother, after sister 1 and sister 2)? SE never clarified that. To avoid any mistake I made my Miqo'te male be a firstborn. (Also I'd like to reiterate that the Keepers "clans" are a case of lore established by the community, not the game, and you are not forced to embrace it. I for example prefer to think Keepers simply live in matriarchal families, not clans. Keepers are by lore more solitary and introvert than Seekers, so I find it more fitting to believe they stick to smaller groups. It's a lore-hole that anyone can really fill the way they want to, I suppose.)
  16. I know I'm not exactly helping, but kudos for making the saddest faces I have ever seen (I like the Elezen best personally)
  17. Popoto Witch literally did come to Eorzea though. I can't remember what event that was for, but I specifically remember fighting a 50-foot tall lalafell named Shantotto and getting a pet from it. (Blade made that post 3 years before the Shantotto event >_>;; ...)
  18. There were a couple threads (probably more) about "what do you like of RP", they just tend to die quicker because well... it's a scientific fact that humans find negativity/complaints more amusing than happy/good things. It's why comedians like George Carlin existed and had success, it's why satire exists, it's why when you walk out of your home you will hear more people complaining about the shitty weather or politics than you'll hear people saying it's a very good day or how happy they are. There is nothing bad about it, it's just more entertaining. (Also fun fact: venting/complaining/ranting/criticizing lenghtens your life span! Scientists say that it is a way to reduce stress on the brain and body, reducing occurrences of violence, rage, and stress-induced deterioration of the system! Stay cynical, stay healthy!)
  19. Sigh... this is why I keep sending in-game suggestion mail to the devs to add an "RP" or "In Character" status icon to pop next to our name to inform others we are IC. A good reason I don't walk up to others IC is that I can't tell who is RPing, who is afk, who is OOC, etc. A status icon is what we need >_
  20. There are real guys who are exactly the same. Unexpected success can make for fun and awkward situations at the same time! And sometimes you'll find someone who's just happy to flirt back :-] That's the thing, they ALL seem happy to :dazed:, and I can't even tell them "um, could you please reject him? He's supposed to be bad at this.", because that'd be scripting how others RP. I digress... I just wish girls had a lil higher standards out there! Sure your da wouldn't approve a bachelor like Clive!
  21. There aren't that many unattached male characters, that definitely helps out I always appreciate running into guys who will flirt, they're not all that common, and its a fun form of RP that fits Aya all too well! Yeah, it's what I wanted to do when I originally created him. But I'm OOCly too uncomfortable to RP beyond the flirting, so that is why I wanted him to fail at it. But it doesn't work, and the person my character hits on gets condescending, and then she wants to get physical and... ...and then I have to figure out to get the hell out of there, because I don't want to RP that stuff >_< ....
  22. On Val's note, another thing I'm reminded of as a RP pet peeve is the impossibility to RP a fail casanova. It must be because this game really offers no way to be physically unattractive, but single people just will not reject me if I try to RP a fail casanova. No matter how bad-mouthed, sexist, jerk and overall asshole I make Clive, if I try make him flirt with someone who isn't in my circle of friends (who know he's supposed to be a fail casanova), he'll always succeed and never get a no. It's... frustrating. Is it a case of people having very low standards for partners, or do I just RP a fail casanova wrong? Who knows...
  23. Is it fine to RP the WoL? Sure. Could it be thought of as inconsiderate to roleplay such an exclusive/special role in walk-up and general public RP? Definitely. Nobody really cares about what people do in more private circles. Still, the simple fact is that running around the Quicksand dropping the fact that you're Hydaelyn's chosen/the Azure Dragoon/Minfilia's ex isn't gonna win you a whole lot of longtime roleplay partners. As for the lore-breaking bit, you could say that, by the same token, anybody who roleplays the WoL is doing so even when somebody else could also be roleplaying the WoL, thus contradicting the ingame lore that there's only one. I think breaking the lore that says you're the chosen one is far more acceptable than breaking the lore that says it's not possible for a seventeen year-old to be the Godsbow and Azure Dragoon at the same time. No one of the MSQ RPers I know has ever brought it up in open RP, so I don't get where everyone is getting from with these statements. All the "you can't RP a WoL, you're being a special snowflake" comments have always and only come from either the forum posts or OOC conversations with other RPers, and that's what irks me. Everyone is prejudging that we will go around and about boasting, but nobody has ever actually seen us doing that, because we don't, in fact. So I'd really love to stop hearing these things when in fact, they do not happen. Also, there can be more than one WoL. The Lore Team has contradicted the game in several things already, and this is just one of them. The lv5 cutscenes shows many other adventurers responding to Hydaelyn's call. Yours just happens to be the one that the camera follows. But I digress these are all side-things. It's the "you're breaking the lore" statement that I find off-putting, because it is absolutely not true. Also quick edit: Yes, to claim to be Minfilia's ex would be breaking the lore, because the game tells you absolutely nothing of the sort. What I'm saying is, what the game says is closer to the lore than what the Lore Team says, to me. If the lore team says the Nuhns are rarely the leaders of the tribe, but then I see the U tribe with a Nuhn chieftain and its members say things like "the word of the Nuhn is the law", then I will trust the game more than the Lore Team. If the Lore Team says "only you can be the Warrior of Light", but then I see NPCs talk about multiples Warriors of Light from 1.0 and multiple adventurers responding to Hydaelyn's call (not to mention those that fight primals with me. How do they do not get thralled? They have to have the Echo too.), then I will trust the game's lore over the Lore Team more. If the Lore Team says most of Eorzea is illiterate but then I get a hundred quests where I hand over notes and letters to NPCs and they read them, then I will trust the game's lore over the Lore Team more, and so on. Remember that the Lore Team is made of people, and people make mistakes. The game is a written story, and it will always same the same thing no matter what, so it's more reliable. Would you trust more to read the story from a book, or to listen it being told by those who work for the writer? But back on topic: please stop the smileys in RP lines.
