I'll likely use an underpopulated server and create a bunch of Au Ras (one for each voice) and test all the emotes and most vocal jobs (pugilist, archer... thankfully mages are not vocal) to make sure I don't waste my Fantasia on a voice I don't like. After I find the look and voice I like, I'll get back on Balmung and Fantasia a couple alts for my two new Au Ra side-characters.

The Confession Room - Share your tales of your own derps here
Blue replied to Rakoh's topic in FFXIV Discussion
"Mass Derp moment! So my static and I were having a cool party, was fun, lots of food (my MNK friend enjoyed it a lot in particular), and the company was pleasant. Shit however went down the drain FAST when a PUG (weird guy(chick? you never know these days), seemed to have some communication deficiencies, wouldn't talk at all) that had come with us decided to go ahead and attack the boss on his own. I mean, wtf? you're not a tank, don't pull by yourself, especially when you're alone in the room and the whole group is behind (though we didn't really have a tank at all that time, we had recently got a WAR for that but she was gone quickly, but that's another story). So the PUG is quickly taken to the ground, but at that point we had aggroed the entire place. As if that was not enough, our BRD had gone off on his own and returned with a train of aggros that you wouldn't even imagine. So my MNK friend and I decide to stay behind and try keep some of the aggro busy while the others make way for the zone. I shot a fireball to shut down a gate (even though later on, I realized we were on a circular platform, so that didn't end up helping much. derp). The others sprint away while my mnk friend and I start to whack some of the aggro. It was a pain without heals really, especially when my MNK friend's gear started to break (she didn't bother repairing before the duty, but she was always kind of dumb). At some point I run out of MP and don't really know what to do. Somehow I was so panicked I completely forgot of Transpose and so I just kinda let the mobs hit me without doing anything. LOL now that I think about it I could've casted sleep and just run away with the others. But there's more! So we finally fill up the LB pool to lv3, and instead of using my THM LB and kill all the mobs before us, I told my friend to go ahead and use Final Heaven. A soldier died, and then the rest killed us. I felt sooooo dumb!" - Papalymo -
We should probably also consider the age this universe is set on. Ancient civilizations aside, I'd place Eorzea somewhere in the 1400 a.C. I'd consider adulthood to be in the twenties. We REALLY shouldn't go by the Japanese modern age of consent, because not everyone here is okay with seeing 14yo characters get physical or sexually active.

why not complete the MSQ? then there will be nothing stopping you! It's related to my role of coordinator in our MSQ RP LS. Not going to explain how the whole process works, but yeah, it's just something personal/for my RP group. I'll probably use a character to OOCly access and take a look around, but for a good while I won't be able to RP in there sadly, not with how story-related the opening of the gate is. Which is ironic, considering how many people who disregard the story will be accessing Ishgard. It would've just been nicer for SE to make the gates open for everyone indipendently of the story, and only gate the MSQ quests behind 2.55 (meaning, let us enter the city, but not let us be involved in its story till we're caught up). That's all. Might also be the bitterness in me talking because a friend of mine who was about to buy the game walked out because of this very same gate, too. It's just a personal matter on too many levels.

You know the game needs to get its stuff together when.....

Unless I'm totally reading this wrong, the merchant is saying he's closed, and complaining that every day should be a festival, because then he could be closed for one every day. Except, he says that even when not on festivals too. So yes, I think he's complaining because he's out of business till a festival comes. -

Oh, I forgot about this one! It was getting dusty in my lodestone pictures collection. This Wood Wailer was just really really down. -

And this is the last one I have for now. Wasn't taken by me, but I feel I have to... I'm going to put it here because it's not for everyone to see. If you don't have a strong stomach, you should probably skip it. -

And let's not forget of this vendor complaining for the lack of festivals... during a festival. -

And another, a little older. Somehow, the game split us (four participants in Dzmael Darkhold) in two parties of two.... -
Odd glitches, weird NPC behaviors or dialogues, objects or characters defying gravity when they're not meant to be, or outright signs of nonsense. We've seen lots of them, and we always will. Post here for any "THIS MAKES NO SENSE!" moment you might have captured a screenshot of while gaming! I'll start with.... this, right here. This needed healer needs a hand at being needed... Note: This is not a thread for odd behavior of other players. Just keep it related to game mechanics and NPCs and stuff.

I'd agree if this was Ishgard on normal days, but we should remember why the gates are being opened. The war has gotten worse. The city is on the brink of destruction, the last barriers protecting it could fall at any time and have a bunch of dragons burn the city to ashes. To not be worried would be, on my part, a leak of OOC knowledge that the city cannot be destroyed and I cannot die because it's a game. I don't know about your own countries, but during world wars Italy suspended all celebrations. It was considered a waste of expenses and a distraction. The nobles may celebrate, yes, but we're talking about stuff happening in their private halls, not outside in squares or in the lower streets of town. EDIT: Besides, it's not like we don't have three other cities in which parties can be thrown at. To have a hub for more serious/tragic roleplay would be a nice change.
-
Long as I don't see any happy party event happening in Ishgard (I've wanted a dark/tragic RP hub for over a year, gimme!), I'm fine with whatever people choose to roll for their characters.

You got source on that because all I'm seeing from multiple sites is that it's all A Realm Reborn content and just to 2.55. It was in one of the first interviews, where Yoshida was talking of this feature as an "idea" and not something that was actually being worked on already, when someone questioned him about the risk of older content getting unpopular. I'd have to look it up again, but there's so many it's probably not worth it at this point. It's not like it's a big deal, since we'll find out soon. However, I do not remember any specific mention that this feature would be possible on ALL content, either.

I remember them saying that this would apply for under-50 dungeons, and that they were considering allowing 7-men Coil. Dunno about everything else. Either way, new players will need to go do those things when their level and ilvl will be much higher than what those dungeons' spoils give.

Um, I suppose.... Au Ra alts making? Cause with the dumb restrictions, I won't be able to access anything else, not even just to take a sneak peek.

Welcome back, hop up on the Heavensward Hype Train now!

D'aww... [EDIT: Cannot quite play it out without Kara's co-op, so I'll edit this out when she's online next.]

According to Tales from the Calamity, Alphinaud and Alisaie were 11 during the calamity, so that makes them about 16/17. <_< Well then, the lore team needs to put their shit together.
-
I think I remember the lore panel saying that Elezen have longer "age spans" than we do. Meaning, they will look like children for longer than we do (maybe until 15?) and like teens for longer than we do (maybe until 25?), and so on. So perhaps Alphinaud and Alisaie could be in their twenties. They do sound a lore more experienced and wise than their look gives, that is for sure.

If you could introduce a certain prop or piece of gear...
Blue replied to Caspar's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I'd like to see clothes of the Industrial Revolution era. Bland colors, average looks, nothing extravagant. I feel there is way too many extravagant clothes in-game. But more than anything else, I'd pay blood for a damn plain T-shirt. It's crazy we can have stuff that looks like it came out of Tron, and not a T-shirt. The closest we have is Tabards, and alas my mages cannot wear those. -
We should appeal to SE for Elemental Ponies/Unicorn/Sleipnir/Warsteeds races at Gold Saucer to celebrate!

As a former horse trainer, I know what a big deal this is, and I congratulate with the US! Looking for ward to Pharoah's future performances! There's another animal they're certainly going to try and clone.

Oh, I think Balmung is far from being "always in character". The majority of players on Balmung are non-RPers, either from 1.0 or who have entered Balmung because higher population = easier to accomplish PvE. A good fraction of the roleplaying playerbase on Balmung is also very casual, OOC most of time and RPing only during certain days or certain hours (I'm one of them, and that's why I keep sending SE suggestions for an RP status icon, Twelve knows how many times people have approached me for RP when I wasn't IC), only very few are IC "all the time", so don't worry about that. Let's see... "NPCing" the way I know it, consists of RPing additional characters, that are not your PC, and that cannot be seen on-screen by others. These are often used to RP family members, colleagues, and scenario-specific personages (Villain-for-a-day, etc.). You will not see this done in open RP often, at least I haven't, but people who RP in FC chat or in other private channels may do it often. To do it in /say seems to cause confusion at best in those not involved/not conscious of what you're doing. I'm an altaholic myself and I often RP my alts and my main character at the same time, by NPCing them. A quick example: Clive, do you want to come with us? Clive: Hell no. You guys are very able to waste your time without my help. I'll go take a nap. *Clive leaves the room* So in that case, I am RPing as Blue, and though Clive Stark IS a playable character (an alt), I'm NPCing him because I cannot log in on both Blue and Clive at the same time, as they share an account. This can be done for alts as well as non-existant characters on your account. Like your retainers, your mom, your boss, your secret evil twin, etc. etc. As to how to make connections, I'll go ahead and tell you what everybody knows: the Quicksand is purely walk-in, walk-out RP. You will very rarely make important connections there or be involved in others plot. It's a good place to go RP when you don't want to look for real plots or strong connections, and just casual conversation/leaning against the railing for a hour or so before you have to go off for work (also prepare to be hit on a lot there. If it makes you uncomfortable like it does to me, I don't recommend going there, but if you've done Ero as you said ou have, I trust you'll have no issues). See it as a sort of bar, a bar of very loud patrons whose conversations you'll easily overhear even by being to the other side of the room (damn that super range of /say), where you'll meet people that you likely won't see again out of the place, it's not too different from real life. So again, it depends on what you're looking for. (Also, RP events. Attend them if you don't mind overflowing chatbox. It is similar to how the Quicksand works, but at least it can have different gimmicks and context). If you want lasting connections and possibly make plots the main suggestion everyone and even I will give is first to join a linkshell or FC OOCly. OOC communication is Very Important to set up plots and connections, and insisting to set these up only through IC means will often, not always, but often leave you excluded and out of what most of us call "cliques". If you can't beat them, join them. Of course all this advice can be disregarded, IC magic does happen and relationships (both positive and negative) do can form with walk-up. But it's very very rare, and those who insist to pursue this way often end up getting depressed and/or make threads of how they can't find RP or lasting friends. It's two roads that you can take, one just happens to have more challenges than the other, so again it all depends on how much of a challenge you want to make for yourself. Happy RP hunting! EDIT: And as usual by the time my post is done other people have done the work already! Damn my text walls.

If M. Night Shyamalan was ARR's lead developer...

Um... I don't think it got to Italy yet. But do go ahead if it's related! -
Would we be dead from the beginning? Would we say we see dead dragons as we stand before Midgardsorm? Would the Ascians be in fact aliens? These are some brilliant jokes a friend of mine made as I brought up this eventuality. Personally, I bet he would've reverted each clan's skin tone, in the same way he did in The Last Airbender. Also, Shyamalan is known to make scarce use of apostrophes and abbreviations in his dialogues, so Limsa Lominsa would either not exist or be comprised of mute people. What do YOU think he would've done to the game? Bring on the satire!
