I'm just playing Devil's Advocate, really. Imagine if you wound in up a new country, with wondrous new people in it. You meet thirty of them in a single day. Can you recollect them all clearly and distinctly at a later date? I meet between 15 and 30 new people every single work day. I can remember perhaps five of their names. It might not have been so dismissive. Again, though, I wasn't there so I'm just trying to rationalize. I trust your judgment of the situation. Yes but, as how this thread titles, my character has been hearing "too many Miqo'te" comments way too many times. It's not just one case of a foreigner stumbling before her.

Hipster RPers. Also a hilarious manifestation of (fictional) racism, but partly the blame goes to Squeenix for the weak character creation in this case. You can only deviate so far from the four given facial templates and the tiny selection of hairstyles. Could also be that certain races have certain lures. It's FFXI 6A syndrome. I mean, count the tan Seekers, the white-haired Duskwights and the shark-faced highlanders. Is it the character creator, or the fact that some races have overwhelmingly popular choices in some cases? No no no, don't misunderstand this. It's not "you all look the same", it's "there's so many of you". In a world where a certain race is the majority (even though the lore states Miqo'tes are uncommon, the playerbase choices makes it not so), it is kind of silly to make statements like that. Again, it's like being in Italy (I can only speak for my country since I've hardly ever seen the reset of the world) and complaining that's there's too many caucasians in it. It's Italy. We're a nation of caucasian. Or it'd be like going to Congo and say "there's so many black people here....!". It's just, weird.

Agreed. I disagree with the "public" part, but often times, venting privately to a friend about someone or something actually has a beneficial effect on our stress, it makes us less angry. When I get frustrated with someone, I usually talk about it with a friend in private, we bitch a bit, make fun of it/him/her, and the day after I'm good with that person like nothing had happened. Had I not done it, maybe I would still be cranky, and maybe I would've decided to confront that person directly and turned a worthless, small argument into an endless drama that could have caused a lot more harm to both me and him/her than it was worth. Here in Italy we have a saying that was passed over by our sailors: "Decrease our salary, but let us complain." It's basically my philosophy of life lol, those who know me know that 99% of the time I speak up, I do it to complain about something. It's not that I hate life, I just have much more fun complaining about it! (And I'm not the only one, go down the streets and you'll more often hear people complain about the weather, their boss, their partner, their mother-in-law, rather than commenting on what a beautiful day it is. Complaint is scientifically more pleasant than talking of happy things is, that's why we have satire entertainment too!) I'm derailing from the topic so here's my tl;dr: Venting is fine, shaming is not. Keep it in private with people you trust.

I honestly feel this is kind of a lost battle. I don't know what tumblr is (is it some iphone thing like Whatsapp? I don't have an iphone <_<; *looks at her pitifully old non-android smartphone* ), so I'm not sure what kind of behaviour you are talking about. But, I do know the internet. And I think what you are asking/telling these people is of the same flavor as "if you are rude to living people on the internet, then you shouldn't stay in real life". People will act the conventional, polite way where it is required (real life/RPC *most of the time* ), and go all out where they can go all out (internet/tumblr? ). We all wish people weren't trolls or dicks on the internet and behaved as much as they did in real life, but sadly where there will be no rules, they will not be forced to keep an etiquette. Some sites are extremely careful with membership behavior and will punish them accordingly (and sometimes too much. I have been permanently banned by the FFXIV Official Forums for posting a picture of bots with not-censored names, and for using the word "prick" once *eyeroll* ), some others (as I am guessing from your description, tumblr) will have not so much moderation and people will take it as a chance to let out all their constipated frustration and meanness (is it even a word?). I honestly doubt making threads to tell people to leave will bring any result. At most, I could see it fueling the opposite effect.

The "unknown land" the adventurer hails from would be interesting to see. 1.0 had a key item that remained in your inventory, said to be a pendant given to you by your mother when you became an adventurer... I wouldn't mind to get to learn something a little more personal about the scripted adventurer (since SE already likes to script our character so much anyway).

Heavensward Ilevel Requirements. Strange Design Choice?
Blue replied to Xavieraux Reinardes's topic in FFXIV Discussion
You are thinking of endgame. FFXI endgame was completely aside from story missions, and it actually had a reasonable level requirement too to be completed. We're talking about access to basic things such as exploration and job quests here. -
Lore Question about Education and Childhood in Eorzea
Blue replied to Lilia Lia's topic in RP Discussion
I do remember the Lore Panel saying that the majority of Eorzea is illiterate, so yes, I think education is mostly vocational and focused on practice, teaching father-to-son, mother-to-daughter and where the offsprings will generally take up the same trade as their parents. I could see the richest hiring tutors for their children, though. I RP an upper-class Ul'dahn lady who has her child educated by a full-time mentor who lives in their quarters with his family, like servants lived at their lord's place in the past, in more humble buildings placed within the holding. As for the Ossuary, I believe their main duty in Ul'dahn society is take on the rituals of burial (I could be wrong, it's been a while since I did my THM research in 2013), so I don't know about education that goes past that field of teaching. Last year I did try to launch a series of mentorship mini-events located at each guilds, with RPers taking the part of teachers and others taking the part of students. It lasted for a month or so, but then it faded back down because apparently the classes weren't attended much. It's a shame, because I think that school is a great way to socialize and build bonds, since you are forced to spend one or two hours with the same people almost every day. -
Heavensward Ilevel Requirements. Strange Design Choice?
Blue replied to Xavieraux Reinardes's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Yeah, to me the way Heavensward is not so much as an expansion as an extension, a glorified, bigger, not-free patch, not any different than 2.1-2.55. Why? Because what few games that got expansions that I have played (The Sims 3, Final Fantasy XI) had always stories kept separated between the base game and the expansion. Sure, sometimes the expansions had ties to certain topics that you would learn of in the base game (the Zilarts in RoZ, for example), but more or less you were always free to choose which story you wanted to play first. I would've preferred Heavensward to be slowly released patches that continued the MSQ rather than be an expansion per se, personally. Because with the requirement of completing the base game's storyline in order to access everything of it (exploration, jobs, story, sidequests), you do not quite expand the universe of Eorzea. You extend it. Gold Saucer followed the right definition of "expansion" more than Heavensward did, ironically. I'm a little sad for my friend who is going to start playing (maybe, he could change his mind) in June, and who really likes great swords and was hoping to do the 2.0 MSQ with great swords, but oh well. Good for me that I'm already caught up, I guess. -
<_< I must be an hybrid.... Height and bust of an Highlander woman. Overall chubbyness of a Lalafell. >_<

Well... yeah, actual "hit the button to queue" will probably be later than 8. But I've gotten a few hits in interest to watch us, so... for them, we'll be doing stuff earlier. ...An audience...? *stage fright hits*

Use a video to describe your character's class/job...

Jet'a whenever he is forced to wake up on a diurnal schedule instead of his normal nocturnal routine.... -
*cough* We have yet to RP being called for the Archon Operation, so it might take a little longer than that. But yes, we should be ready to queue at worst between 8 and 9PM EST.

Wow! I did not expect so many people willing to help us! I was actually kind of wary when Mae suggested that we should make a thread to seek help on these boards >_< Glad it didn't turn ugly...! For those that wonder how we do handle MSQ RP (and how we will handle the instance), here's a quick digest: - OOC talk will be restricted inside party chat. - IC talk will be restricted to our RP LS channel (if you want to RP with us or even just watch, we can give you a temporary invite, it's fine! Or we could make an exception and RP in /say, but only if no one of those that help will mind seeing MSQ RP) - We will walk where walking is logical, and run when it is wise to do so, so we'll be going slow. We also ICly do not see the mini-map with that nice arrow that points at the right way, so at times we might take dead ends, but don't worry, we will make it out before we time-out. - The pacekeeper (currently I occupy this role) will handle the NPCs talking, copy/pasting from the system chatlog and into the LS log for everyone to see (if there's stuff others can't see, like players who have already done the event), it is also my duty to modify the dialogues where necessary or to create whole new ones if people decide to address the NPCs. (for example, if you shout "Cid, look behind you!", it will be my task to type "Cid: Huh...? What? *Cid looks behind with a concerned frown*") I always do my best to keep NPCs as much loyal to the personalities the game gave them, rest assured of that... I have years long experience at that and I've never heard complaints. I also happen to be the person that will be on a half-hiatus soon (tests begin next week, eep!), so that is why we are on a rush, since I am the one in charge of NPCs. I don't want to keep people hanging for me .... There will be no restrictions to what people can do, and everyone should have their time to shine. We never step on each others' toes with Mary Sue moments or overpowering the scene (unless we're introducing a villain, cause villains should always "win" a bit at first. But that's not the current case), so whether you decide to RP a member of the Scions, a sellsword, or a member of the Immortal Flames, you'll always be an equal to us, no worries! And of course, if you don't feel like RPing with us, that's fine too. We have yet to make our LS page on the RPC (we're going through some editing with our rules and procedures before we do that), so if anyone wants to take a glimpse at some screenshots of what we do, or of how we set up things, here's a link to our site: http://tales-of-hydaelyn.guildwork.com/ Thanks again for the warm responses!

balmung Lala-Obsessed Girl Seeking Help!!!
Blue replied to SM Nick's topic in Chronicled Connections
Call me a nostalgic, but in my own view of how an RPG story develops, a love story should always be something that happens, and not something that should be aimed at. I mean, look at all the old school RPG stories. You often times have to get to the END of the game for the hero and the heroine to even just kiss. True love is something that should develop through hardships and many meaningful moments spent together, whether you are the adventurous type or just the cosmopolitan citizen. I wouldn't rush things or force feelings to happen. Quick relationships are always kind of seen as poor anyway. There is much more into a couple that comes to be after months of troubles, chores, bickering, joy and sadness than into a couple that meets today and marries the month after (no offense to those who RPd marrying after just months of relationship, I do understand the hype of Eternal Bond, but Las Vegas style is just not my thing, /I/ would wait). Do as you want in the end, but I think you are just going to spoil yourself the fun of meeting many people and finally recognizing your special one when both you and he/she are truly ripe for it. -
For Blue: "Can't say I really remember you. There's just so many of you Miqo'tes..." This has a little of OOC involved in the way it irritates me. It's just a comment that I don't find very natural and believable to be said. It'd be as if IRL someone told me they didn't remember me because there's just so many caucasians here in Italy. Who'd ever say that?

Oh boy, the memories from FFXI ... all the elemental staves.. all the gil...

I remember little from my thaumaturge quests, but I do recall that Thaumaturges take care of embalming and burial rituals in Ul'dah. The Goldsmithing quests also reveal that scepters and staves are often made out of bones as spoils from the dead work as better receptacles for thaumaturgy's magicks. I am just making 2+2 here and poking theories, but perhaps, inversely to conjury channeling the aether from the living forest (the Elementals), thaumaturgy does the opposite, instead receiving its aether from the caster and his ability to channel the aether from the dead (when things die in Hydaelyn, their aether is said to return to the lifestream, so it doesn't just disappear). Then there's the void, but that stuff is purely related to black magick, which is a forbidden form of thaumaturgy.

Very interesting link. Is there a version for males too? I wanted to do the test for Jet'a, but most of questions seem to apply just for females. The test linked above is for characters of all gender & sexual identities. The usage of "xe" and "xir" are basically stand-ins for "he, her, it" and "his, her, its". Oh, weird. Then I guess that it's just a case of most of these sentences not applying to my male Miqo'te >_<; ....

Slightly off topic but I think poor Taki'a is completely confused and slightly disturbed by Seeker girls. Seeker culture is a demented inversion of Keeper culture (his perspective) and he finds it baffling. Most of the non-Keeper cultures are like that, so he has regular culture shock I suppose Jet'a Vann here is also a Keeper born and raised in the Shroud (at least till he was taken away from there by force). He is EXTREMELY conservative and traditional, very proud of his heritage (the Miqo'te naming conventions state that some Keeper surnames have been lasting since the First Astral Era, and I RP the Vann surname to be one of them), and regards Seekers and their society with major distrust and annoyance too. One sure way to get on his bad side is to call him or compare him to a Seeker...! Just the other day, Blade made the mistake of mixing up his Miqo'te colture and asked Jet'a if he was planningo to turn his own sister in a sort of she-Nuhn for the reforming of their family. That was quickly answered with a blizzard spell in the Midlander's crotch >_> But yes, Shroud Keeper pride! *raises fist!*

How to properly react to RP you don't like (or 'Punting the Puppy')
Blue replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
I don't know, the way in which he approached me seemed pretty legit, and his grammar was clean, he actually was putting efforts in his wording and speech... till I said I was just a goldsmith and not an adventurer. Then again, I am always slow on recognizing trolls, so you could be right too. I don't think I'll ever know.
