Man this is driving me so mad... patch has been up for like, what? six hours now? And I still can't get it downloaded. It downloads like 9 Kbs of it before the download ratio drops to 0Mb/s and the client shutdowns.

I've yet to see any sort of positive impact from an official forum. All MMOs included, not just this one. MUCH LESS a non-Japanese forum for a Japanese MMO. Well, you can find a good amount of them here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=8517 But just so I can give you one example, here's something that is very RP-Focused, my request of an IC Status Icon. Pretty much everyone has been positive and nice. Just hopping in because I feel like vouching for the Official Forums a little, as off-topic as this may be, some posts about them give me the idea of an overall misleaded mentality about them. The Official Forums are not all nasty or anti-alts or anti-RP. As you can see in my Requests to the Devs thread, I have made a LOT of RP-focused threads in there, and I think I can safely say that never have I ever received a flaming reaction from the community there. The only time I did, it was when I asked to nerf Titan EX because of my poor ping ratio (and that is not RP-focused). There is the right place for every thread. General Discussion surely receives more eye from the community, and as such it flows quickly.. it is not the right place where to post a thread you want to be on the top page for a while, especially if it concerns only a minority of the playerbase. That is why I made my Balmung Housing Issue thread in the Balmung section. I assure you, the moderators read all sections, and it is them who then point interesting cases at Developers for them to respond (the Developers likely do not browse the English categories themselves, more of the Japanese), so General Discussion is not really a must to make a thread succesful or receive a Developer's attention. Lastly I'd like to stress just one more time of how I'd love if the RPC accepted the Official Forum's support more. It's thanks to them that we are receiving, for example, the City-state specific outfits coming 2.51. I like to think that my thread asking for them on the official boards helped this, and maybe it did, but more probably, someone asked for them on the JP boards :lol: It doesn't matter who did it in the end, but what matters is that I feel happy for asking in those forums. So in the end, please do not think poorly of the Official Forums just because of the mess General Discussion can be sometimes. There are trolls there just as there are people ready for a civil discussion, and they will always have the attention of SE that these boards do not have. TL;DR: The official forums are not evil! You just need to choose carefully the right section and the right topic/wording for your thread!

3 was such a bold game. It seems everything about it set out to differ from other jrpg. The lead is a female with no shallow romance defining her, the loner gets a lot of criticism and ridicule for being standoffish, the big guy is a Mage, and the sniper is a pleasant, happily married middle aged man. And everyone had guns. It was brilliant. Agreed. I really hope that one day SE gives us a Far West-themed continent to explore. It did not happen with FFXI (Seekers of Adoulin pretty much established the west as a wild continent) so... maybe XIV? I dare hope.

Wild Arms! With 3 being my favorite chapter! One of the characters there, Jet Enduro, is who I named Jet'a Vann after. I love that albino :love:! (And you can see why I'm so happy to have horses in XIV as well from it)!

Personally I still think what determines the server lock is the simultaneous log ins. And if you think about it, that is also explained by the fact that the maintenance has a time when people squeeze through. Nobody logs in when a maintenance is about to begin. You also notice that post-maintenance server openings for character creator are longer when the servers go back up at hours in which NAs are asleep/at work/at school, while they're shorter if the servers come back during NAs prime log in time (afternoon/evening). That at least is my main suspicion that makes me think currently online people have little blame in server lock out (they might have it in server congestion, but that is another issue, one that when rised will lock transfers from other servers as well), and as such that the AFK boot feature will have little merit in that field. Personally I think the main blame goes to the Lobby Server which, while it has been updated in 2.1 (with the disappearance of the outrageously big log in queues), clearly is still not good enough for the current mass of logging-in players our server has to endure.

You should put this link in the RPC Request to the devs thread too, so that anyone can take an extra look at it in the future as well! (Seriously, it's so hard to make our voices be heard, I made that thread to try and gather support from all the RPC. For some things it seems to be working!)

Before I had an FC chest to use, I used to make gear for my alts and give it to them via market board, by putting them for sale at 1 gil and then quickly log on my alt to buy it. This one time, a player was quicker than me and bought my gloves. To my surprise, he was standing right next to my alt at the market board in Gridania. I told him what had happened and he was so kind as to give the gloves to me, even said that after all, they matched me better (they were purple to match my alt's highlights). I was so moved by that, I made another pair for him for free :blush:...

I would not normally reply to this but as my wife and son, two of the kindest players in the game, are in fact non-roleplayers, living in Balmung, minding their own business and enjoying the game....I take offense to this. They sell goods on the market, buy items, have a home in Lavender Beds and cause no trouble. Calling them parasites...makes no sense. Why....because they don't rp? Oh well. We all don't rp all the time. I know many here who skillfully crush coil turns and raid and play the MSQ, craft, etc. They aren't roleplaying during those times. I know rp'ers who take breaks. Should they be called parasites simply because they aren't exisitjng soley as roleplayers? This sort of rp elitism is just as sickening as raider elitism. Everyone can enjoy the game as they see fit on any server they see fit. And it's a natural balance that swings one way or the other depending on the population. Stop trying to lump people into categories. Social stratification is not wanted or needed. TL;DR: This clown needs to shut it and stop lumping people into categories. Everyone can co-exist peacefully The fun fact is that without non-RPers, we would have a much harder time. Quoting myself from the official forums:

I know I've said this in other threads of the same discussion, but personally I am wholly against the return of the auto-boot feature. Maybe some of people do not have reasons to want to stay online when afk, and it is "retarded", but I'm sure most have valid reasons. They also love to hear my comments the day after an RP I missed! I -feel- the auto-boot feature may make a temporary return in XIV when 3.0 hits, but it's a huge maybe because currently the total population of the entire game is pretty low (around 2 million registered, only 500k active?). If it returns, it's because Balmung itself is close to reaching capacity during patch days, and it might reach it on 3.0. If that so happens, meh, I'll find ways around it. I'll be sad I won't be able to afk on bed, but no way I'm staying offline :roll:!

Just wanting to make one point sure since no one seems to have yet used the thread as I had intended it to be... I am not going to make threads for others' requests. I've posted my own threads in the opening post because those are the ones I have thought of and for which I'd like support. The intention of the thread is that, if you want to make some requests to the devs, then you should make a thread on the official forums, after which you post a link here, so that all of the RPC can see it and contribute to keep it up and get the Devs' attention. I know a lot of the RPC seems to avoid the official forums for some reasons, but I believe this would be a great way to make our voices be heard. I see a lot of great ideas in these posts, but still no links to actual threads made in direction of the Developers. I'd love to see some!

Personally I was hoping for Hildebrand or Derplander, as most of the community. What do you guys think? (FYI, this is currently only coming out for the Arcades, but people are expecting a PS4 release eventually too.)

Those who want the SOLDIER look will probably be happy this set is missing the long sleeve (unlike me), since with DoL slops and snow's shoes and a pair of wristbands, you can pretty much get the SOLDIER look.
