I have made my characters looks and personalities based on the 8 elements of FFXI, so that's a pretty easy guess.... Blue = Leviathan Jet'a = Shiva Vincent = Titan Clive = Ifrit Kujh'a = Ramuh Xaela child (to be named still) = Garuda Aki and the Xaela male... not sure. They're the embodiment of light and darkness respectively, and XIV has no primals for those. In FFXI it was Alexander and Odin, though.

I am going to talk from a pretty neutral standpoint here (I RP both etherosexual and homosexual characters, and am borderline asexual IRL, not like all this should matter anyway), but I think that one of the best ways to prevent discrimination is to avoid lobbying into categories. Communities that try to cater to only certain people always end up causing negative feelings from those that are not "allowed". It has been like this since the age of times, between rich and poor, X race and Y race, religion A and religion B. People don't like to feel excluded or marked as different, and groups like this do cause those feelings. This is why while I fully support people of different sexual orientation, I do not quite agree with LGBT communities or LGBT centered events (cause I mean, it's not like there are straight-centered events). I do understand the desire to be with people with similar interests as yours, but forming barriers is something lobbies/specific communities do very easily. I prefer to RP my homosexual character in a mixed community, without trying put myself in a special circle or to keep others out. It's the key to become included in the world, both IC and OOC. With that being said, I'm pretty sure there are several LGBT-only free companies or linkshells, so I'll go back to my corner. I just felt I had to share my opinion as a roleplayer of all orientations (I like to RP characters of all types, long as they're different from my real self to avoid OOC bleeding. It's like an unpaid actor job, in a way!).

The Great Crash of '15 - Gripes and Rants Are Going Heavensward
Blue replied to Nero's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I know choosing a guardian when making a character has (as of now) no impact on the game at all, but I cannot help but be a little annoyed that the Au Ra, coming from a country with a different pantheon of deities, cannot have their own guardians of choice. MY CHARACTERS ARE BEING DICTATED INTO BELIEFS THAT AREN'T THEIR OWN! -
EU players on the NA RP servers Balmung/Gilgamesh

Italian here, also playing on Balmung (though I'm in a NA-centered RP group, so I tend to adjust to their time zones); these days I'm playing on European daytime hours though. -

Yes the game should be up in about 3 hours from this post. All righty, back to FFXI then! Good morning folks. -

There's a maintenance right now, right? I see a Lodestone notification but it's in PDT, and that confuses me. -

Actually they're mostly referring to the "character lighting" setting they turned down to 0. Check it out in system config. We're no longer flashlights! Actually, the character lighting is referred to another part of the Patch Notes, and as it says, it affects the light of the character, not the area surrounding him (I tried regulating, it doesn't affect how the sky looks at all, just how light or dark the character's armor/skin is). The sky is definitely different. I looked at it a lot in the past. There's more stars, and they actually have a sort of intermittent glow that was not there before. -------------------------------- Also, bleeeeeh! It's 5AM and the traffic is still insane! -

[2.0] Due to adjustments to the graphics engine, the appearance of 2.0 areas at night has changed. Holy smokes, it's like we're inside a disco ball! -

No. The graphic explains it by itself, really, but if you need more details, there is a dedicated thread on this topic and I along with other people have given all our share of motivations for disapproving the developers' choices with Heavensward. It didn't require 1.0 completion, so nope. ----------------------------------- And to regard the "respect developers thing", I haven't insulted the person of the developer or any other member of the SE team. I criticize the game a lot, but I never insult, so I think I am doing this respectfully. Giving feedback and exposing a game's pros and cons is part of showing care for the product, and I wouldn't be paying the subscription if I didn't like the game. But I do like it, so I feel I can criticize it if I want to. It'd be worse to shrug it off and not care at all as a fan (to me). ---------------------------------- Back on topic, I've been in queue behind one person for ten minutes now x_x ..... I wonder what's gonna happen at launch. -

Or, more likely, I just got extremely lucky. Edit - Here's a gripe that has nothing to do with the log-in issues: I wish the Heavensward content were more accessible. Because I just counted, and I have 202 quests to go before I can even access Ishgard. I know a ton of this game was end game content, but doesn't it seem odd to anyone but me that all of the new content, save a few odds and ends like the new race, is stacked up at the end of everything else? Looking at the exp rates and quest rewards, I think I'll be level sixty before I even make it to Ishgard. It just feels like I'm being penalized for not having been playing already. Also, it seems odd to me that to unlock the new jobs - which start out already half-way to the current level cap - you have to have already hit the level cap in another class. It would have made more sense - to me, at least - if they became available at level 30 rather than at level 50. Unless they are just that much better than the standard Jobs. I dunno, I won't get to use one for, like, a month minimum. But that's enough whining from me, I guess. HW is just a glorified, p2p patch. -
I have a Hotgo child (10 years old) that was taken in rather reluctantly by a Raen village after the tribe was slain (the child was not there to see it, she doesn't know what really happened to her tribe). You may add her if you wish, but right now she still has her old placeholder name (Dylise Rontremont). I'm waiting to receive my check at the beginning of July to change her into her final Hotgo name. Regarding approaching her for RP, she's currently with the other refugees in Revenant's Toll. She's free to interact with others in-between work (Doman refugees were accepted in Mor Dhona in change for labor work), but she is not allowed to leave the hamlet obviously due to her young age.

The U tribe, much like the illiteracy stuff, is yet another example of a discrepancy between what the game gives us and what the Lore Panel tells us. Ferny said that the Nuhn is usually not the head of the tribe, and yet when you do U tribe quests, you hear NPCs say things like "The word of the Nuhn is the law" and so on. I'm fine if SOME tribes have Nuhns also taking care of leadership, but it wouldn't hurt to have some other NPC Seeker tribes out there that show us a Tia ruling about to justify the Lore Panel's statement, as well as Seeker tribes not looking like Maori tribes but something a little more westernized (for example, La Noscea is supposed to be a common area for Seekers of the Sun. I'd find it interesting to see an NPC Seeker Tribe of fishermen/pirates there, with the Nuhn being just a Nuhn, and not also the leader. But I suppose that's something the devs don't worry about much.

As a big FFVII fan (there is a lot of sentimental value to the game for me. It's the game that made me learn English (see whole story of how it did here) ), I am very nervous to know that it will be SE and not Squaresoft to handle this. They will likely change the battle system to something closer to the recent chapters (remove turns, make action-game based battle system with AI handling the "other party members), and remove things that they either consider unappealing to the new generation (grinding) or too heavy to handle for the new engines (take a look at World Maps for example. It's not a mystery that SE hates world maps, they haven't been making one since FFXII unless you want to count that pathetic thing that Dissidia's world map was). It'd be really a dream if they simply took FFVII and just gave it big graphics, but the realistic me knows that won't be true. I just pray that the remake will be built keeping the old-days fan in mind and not just the new generation.

The Great Crash of '15 - Gripes and Rants Are Going Heavensward
Blue replied to Nero's topic in FFXIV Discussion
It's just the second day of EA. This stuff is bound to happen, and pretty much the norm. Hell, I'm shocked it hasn't been happening more often. Either SE prepared their hardware better than usual to handle congestion, or they turned out to have much lower numbers of returning/new players than usual. -

Does anybody know how to set the game on DirectX 11? I know my computer has it, but my XIV client still says "Play (DirectX 9)" and the new settings in-game for directx11 (like maximum real time reflections) aren't there. -
I hope I do not come off as a bitch with this thread, but since literally all the linkshells in my rosters (of any of my characters) are from members of the RPC, I thought to post here would only make things easier rather than having private conversations with each shell in game. I for one will be a player who will not be delving into Heavensward's story now or soon. I have other things to do first, and my character is obliged to not progress through the MSQ just yet. And I'm also one of those people who really hate spoilers. So the very first thing I'll be doing once I log in will be to filter off /shout. However, I'd really like to be able to keep my linkshells un-filtered and talk in them at ease. Filtering linkshells off is something that I always feel bad about and I'm happy I haven't had to do it more than a couple times so far. So here's the point of the post in its entirey. Could we make a mutual agreement to not bring up spoilers or discuss the HW story in linkshells channels? It's okay if you're doing the story with friends and you want to comment with them, but that can easily be done in party, in tell, in FC, what you have. I doubt every single people in your linkshell will be doing just that, and I'm also sure I'm not the only one who'd be annoyed to read spoilers in my LS log about the expansion I can't play yet. So yeah, that's just it. Let's try to be considerate of each other in-game. I'd be deeply obliged if LS leaders passed on request to not type spoilers to their linkshell members within the linkshell channel. Or at the very least, the LS leaders of the LSs I'm in, cause I'm not trying to fight everyone's battle here. I'm just literally concerned about myself and my enjoyment of the game. If however people can find a reason why this request would be hurtful and too constraining of others, by all means I will accept your decision to ignore it, and just filter linkshells off of my log till I'm ready.

I'm already planning out a plot with two Au Ra alts that I will make, one being an Hotgo female child (10 years old) ((first on the left in this picture)) and one being a full grown Dotharl man. The Hotgo child will likely have vengeful feelings towards the man, and powerlessly attempt to take his life over and over to no avail because of her young age and lack of fighting/killing skills, while the man mostly ignores her/saves her from the traps that she will set up for him only to become a victim of them herself (I am making this man an exiled from the Dotharl, so he will not be as extremely violent as the others of this name are depicted to be, but he will still have that dark/menacing aura around himself). Man/child rivalries/bickering/tsundere type of relationships were always my favorite in books and movies. Freud would say it's because I haven't had a real father figure in my real life, but who caresssssssss, I love to RP wierd bonds that do not involve romance.

Heavensward moderators! So, does it mean I need to get through 2.55 before I can turn to them to appeal to stuff in need of mod powers?

There is a good lack of people that spend their time working/thriving to make a living. Most of people I see around are going to a party of having a drink at the local pub. WHEN DO YOU MAKE ALL THAT MONEY YOU'RE SPENDING!? For once, I'd like to hear someone ICly complaining about the upcoming bills/taxes and not knowing how to make up for it. The Sheriff of Eorzeangham will come at your door too one day. I feel the whole opposite of that. Most of RP characters I interact with are overly friendly and tend to share TMI/open up/trust a stranger waaaay too easily. I think this is mostly due to the OOC knowledge that nothing bad can possibly happen to their character without their consent, and also OOC wish to hook up/make connections easily and asap. I'm obsessed with realism and try to keep my interactions with a RL-related mind, so I tend to distrust strangers/people who walk up to me until given reason not to, but I understand why not many would go with this method in RP.

I'm totally a Goro.

EDIT: I take it back. It's not Gold Saucer. Take a look at DRK's PvP armor. Hint: PLD and WAR's PvP sets are shaped like lion and bear respectively.

Once upon a time, Squaresoft and Enix married together and had a few babies... FFXI -> First MMO attempt, good enough reception FFXII -> Retired from sales just a few before launch, completely remade into a Star Wars carbon copy. FFX-2 -> Sequel, riding FFX's success. FFXIII -> Success due to high graphics plus the exploit of FFVII's cast/plot. Criticized due to almost unexistant exploration, a key factor in RPGs. FFversusXIII -> Cancelled after years of attempts on finishing it. FFXIV -> Riding FFXI/WoW's success and yet sunk to the bottom of the sea. FFXIII-2 -> Riding FFXIII's success. FFXIV ARR -> Rehash of FFXIV, much better (for most). FFXIII LR -> Also riding FFXIII's success. FFXV -> Made from the scrapes of FFversusXIII. FFX HD Remastered -> FFX rehash FFVII remake -> FFVII rehash. I'll buy it because I'm a damn fan of Squaresoft, but sweet Jeebus someone needs a new story writing team badly. EDIT: The best news of this announcement is that we can look forward to a collaboration event. Sephy's outfit, please gimme.

Formerly horse trainer, now jobless. I'm currently working on improving my formation in the hope to rise my job offers ratio. I'd still like to work around horses, but at this point, I'll take anything..
