  1. [Mod Hat] Let's keep it on track folks. We're skirting off into unnecessary and off track territory. [/Mod Hat]
  2. I tend to put this in a very realistic light. So on Japanese servers, their Eorzen characters are speaking Japanese. They are natively Japanese so it very likely doesn't have the same fantasy connotation as it does for us in America/EU/Elsewhere. Effectively, there would be no differences between the two spoken languages besides maybe an accent and dialect changes which they quantify for in the lorebook. TL;DR Same language from what I can gather here. Your Doman character might have a Doman accent or dialect but they are speaking the same language as the Eorzeans. Your Doman might be familiar with Ninja names and abilities where your Eorzean character would not. OOCly, you can think of this as both areas of the world speaking English if you're from America with some differing words and accents thrown in. If you're from Japan it would be like both Doma and Eorzea speaking Japanese expect some differing words and accents thrown in. ICly, this means they both speak "Common", each with a slightly different inflection. This is just for the Raen/Domans. The Xaela are their own beast obviously. That's how I interpreted it anyway, someone throw a flag at me if I missed anything important.
  3. Well, that circles back to something someone brought up earlier - the Soul Crystal helps you learn the abilities and whatnot in most cases. I remember someone likening them to arcane cliff notes that help spin you up to speed faster than someone who didn't have one. So, does that knowledge just... disappear from your mind once you don't have it anymore? I know mechanically you go back to your base class and whatnot, but what about from an IC perspective? Do those memories and skill sets remain? Do they get sort of fuzzy and difficult to recall like dreams after waking up? Or are they just gone entirely, leaving you feeling like you KNEW how to do it but it's forever on the tip of the proverbial tongue? See, this is the problem I have with SE. Ever since... FFX, maybe? They've had this stupid idea/thing where they have to immerse all of their game mechanics in in-game lore. I appreciate the effort, but some mechanics really just don't need it as I would hope/think people are intelligent enough to realize it is a mechanic. ..That being said, I would assume it's the latter of what you offered, based solely on the mechanic alone. The abilities a character is given are insanely powerful and require a great deal of skill and experience to pull off. The soulstone gives you that. I can imagine losing it would cause someone to lose the knowledge, but through experience you may be able to learn to do it without. The problem is that some people would no doubt try to say they can learn everything without soulstones, although I guess we already have some that RP knowing everything with soulstones. Massive lore comes with MMO territory, especially those with a progressing storyline and multiple xpacs etc. You can get away with not having as much in a standalone console RPG.
  4. Eh, I can call it like it is. Existing active Dragoon RPers got retconned out of existence. Will I still RP with them? Yep.
  5. This is EXACTLY why Square Enix has massively dropped the ball by having this level of specificity just randomly for NO reason. Now they are obligated to explain this. "It is a very small, elite Order." Could have sufficed. But...they didn't really drop the ball though? It's not for no reason, either. It's their lore and their story. They aren't obligated to do anything. People wanted lore and they got it. Mind you, I've never played DRG. I've never gotten LNC past 17 or 18 in the game. But even just what I've seen of the game and conext clues, DRGs were never meant to be a mass order of individuals. Considering the scope of the DSW, the fact that DRGs took a hit SHOULDN'T BE SURPRISING. It's 30 DRGs. It's SE's story, not ours, we're just the players exploring it. They don't owe you, me, or anyone else jackshit. To think otherwise is just entitlement. Square didn't write this way to punish people. I don't know WHY they wrote this way, frankly. Hell, they can't even define Thancred and Minnie's relationship beyond "HerpDerp Rampaging Goobbue" but we're still supposed to feel sad or something about it. I'm just saying that for a company has has a 6 year long habit for being vague as hell they certainly picked an obnoxiously problematic and odd time to be double digit number specific.

  7. Ah, but therein lies the rub. Does one keep Dragoon skills once they part with the Soulstone or do they go back to being a Lancer? ..... The answer is Lancer but if someone wanted to RP it that way I'd probably shrug and look the other way as well. If that were the case, though, every trainer NPC would become a 'gladiator' or 'marauder' after parting with their soulstone but we see that's clearly not the case. They retain their Job specific skills. That starts boiling down into the unique lore of seperate jobs and would be a massive segway off topic.
  8. Ah, but therein lies the rub. Does one keep Dragoon skills once they part with the Soulstone or do they go back to being a Lancer? ..... The answer is Lancer but if someone wanted to RP it that way I'd probably shrug and look the other way as well. Pretty much this. It IS lorebreaking. I'll be looking the other way though.
  9. Highly unlikely. Dragoons are decidedly a very Ishgardian 'flavor' job. About the only place I'd think of where they'd be is Meracydia where Dragons originally migrated North from ((Someone fact check me here I could be wrong)) But even then there is absolutely nothing to suggest this is the case. Because the Quest was probably written before Heavensward lore was finalized. .... No really, that's the answer. >_>
  10. AFAIK The See has the official monopoly of Dragoon soulstones. You don't have a soulstone you're not a dragoon. You're a Lancer. So if you're not in the Order, you don't have a soulstone, you're not a Dragoon. I mean, I'm pretty much just pointing out why this is such a kick in the junk. They pretty much worded it in such a way that you're pretty boned w/o outright breaking/bending something which is fine, I RP with people who will be doing that. Why does the See have a monopoly. Apparently after you retire you get to take them with you lol. It's how the WoL gets one. That's contradictory to how Soulstone lore works. "Upon the surface of this multi-aspected crystal are carved the myriad deeds of Dragoons from eras past." All soulstones imply they were preowned and passed along. So if there are only 30 then it serves to reason that they See reclaims them and then recruits a new Dragoon to pass it on to.
  11. AFAIK The See has the official monopoly of Dragoon soulstones. You don't have a soulstone you're not a dragoon. You're a Lancer. They pretty much worded it in such a way that you're pretty boned w/o outright breaking/bending something which is fine, I RP with people who will be doing that. Think this was intended to be less representative of the job and more representative of how intense the last battle and about how bloody the end of The Dragonsong War was supposed to be.
  12. It's also strange as hell because there is literally ZERO precedence for this level of specificity in SE's lorewriting. They normally opt for the "We're going to be so vague we don't have to explain anything!" angle. Now, all of a sudden: THIRTY DRAGOONS.
  13. It quite clearly says "The Order is comprised of thirty Dragoons." Don't get me wrong, I LIKE your interpretation more and will probably err that way myself. But it's not what that page on that book says. NOTE: This opinion should NOT be taken as any sort of official stance because of a dumb green name. Come to your own conclusions.
  14. I've got some folk in my FC struggling with this right now. To be honest, I'm leaving them alone and I'm not exactly stoked for this revelation. This means there are a total of 30 Dragoon soulstones in existence. Like....you can't even have an NPC that is a Dragoon. Anyone who knows me knows I do not advocate lorebreaking. I loathe it. However, this is a real kick in the junk to what was an otherwise really awesome section of the RP community who was really doing nothing but doing it right and doing it well. ..... At this time I think I'd actually fall on the side of lore leeway as well. I wouldn't CREATE a new dragoon character right now (or ever again apparently ) but if you had one just keep doing your thing imo. Are you technically in breach of lore? Yes. Can anyone force you to reroll? No. Will people perhaps STOP RPing with you as a result of said revelation? Perhaps. This SUCKS.
  15. DingDingDing. Can we have accompanying novels pls. *Hurls Nero at SE*
  16. In the one scene where Aymeric protected Lucia from the falling pillar on the Steps of Faith.... in that 3 seconds of footage he had more character development than most of the Scions combined.
  17. I am curious to see what the landscape of Ala Mhigo will look like. I'm hoping dearly it'll be as breathtaking as the city of Ishgard was the first time I stepped into it but I'm scared at this point it'll look like a gigantic Castrum.
  18. I don't like these options. I was looking for this one: "AY MABBE I SHOULD GO PICK UP THOSE FCKING EYEBALLS MY DUMB ASS THREW OFF THE DAMN BRIDGE." Seriously, the eyes were about as predictable as getting ran over by a Zamboni. In fact, can we just go back to Ishgard? I am 0% excited for Ala Mhigo. I mean, the Ala Mhigans are kinda assholes. There I SAID IT. YALL SUCK. Borderline as bad as Garlemald invading shit just cause ya can then you get mad when someone does it to you. Though I am REALLY happy that the eyes involvement in further Ala Mhigan conflicts essentially cements Ishgard's involvement in 4.0. Also I really have no idea what the relationship between Thancred and Minnie is. Like not a damn clue. Did he love her? Was he like a brother? A dad? I CAN'T TELL. I CAN'T HAVE SYMPATHY FOR THEIR PARTING IF I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW THEY ARE RELATED, SQUARE. Also when the Ascian in white, Elder Bus or whatever his name is, appeared with the Griffin I really just honestly facedesked. Like "THIS SHIT AGAIN. AND AGAIN." Wasn't this dude supposed to be a messenger or envoy or spectator ro something and that's why he was in white? Correct me if I'm wrong there, but there he goes messing with shit. Also am I the only one starting to notice the correlation between this and Kingdom Hearts? The whole Heartless/Nobodies and thew Dark/Light thing? Like apparently all light is bad too. But then doesn't that technically make Hydaelyan evil? What is even going on. Why is my character even doing anything. Oh, and Yda being some Ala Mhigan princess or whatever is Zamboni 2.0. OH. And when Alisae pulled out her "aetherical blade" as she calls it later in the rising stones. I'm not gonna touch on the details of that but this is my face. I'm hoping they'll go back and explain that one because they should but I'm really expecting them not to because that would involve explaining something in the world and SE doesn't like to do that.
  19. I'm of the mind that this whole thing has been poorly handled by SE honestly. The U tribe is presented one way, official descriptions go in another direction and then the community really didn't help matters when they fetishized it. I tend to avoid Tribe RP as well. Any experience I've had with it in game has been negative or fetishized. I'm gonna be brutally honest with you OP. If I ran into a player playing a Nunh that had a storehouse of NPC women back home he was 'breeding' I would eject from the RP immediately. I'm not saying you wouldn't do it differently, I'm not saying you wouldn't do it well. But at this point, in a lot of people's minds, I don't know if there is any saving the concept. And, for your sake, I'll warn you and say I don't know if there is anyway to avoid the fetishizers. ((
  20. Don't let the things people say in a venting thread about other people that you will never meet affect you personally. Just play your game, have fun.
  21. Sending someone your way who really digs this kind of thing. They should poke you in game.
  22. [Mod Plague Doctor's Mask] This thread has been cleaned up once and further inflammatory posts resulting in additional reports are now seeing to it's closure. It had a good life but it's time to put it down. [/Mod Plague Doctor's Mask] P.S. Anastasia is a great movie.
