I'm really bad about getting back to people about RP and sometimes I get really bogged down in FC leading management crap.

The role of a 'helper' could be accomplished with a mammet or something else and not result in 'kill on sight' for the majority of the population. One of my biggest issues with voidsent rp is people choose to forget their actual motives for existing and personify them in ways that really make no sense with their nature then act offended personally when people tben want to kill their girlfriend/child/pet. In the end its your rp and you are free to do as you will.

Event currently underway. We do tend to run late so don't be afraid to wander in or stop by a few hours from now. -

The only time I will bend established lore is when creating NPC's or villains to be tackled by a large group of people. The bending, if even necessary, is done in such a way as to provide the necessary tension to make the person actually threatening to a large group. I will not do this with my PC's ever. The lore regarding my PC's is about as airtight as my knowledge of it will allow and I correct it if I find something is off.

[Poll] Job, Class or I Can't Be Labeled Yo
Teadrinker replied to Knight Kat's topic in RP Discussion
What of AST, DRK, MCH? Class/Job in terms of voting? I'd say job but playing a MCH is very different from say...any kind of mage and will skew results. -
Just wanted to address this. The fights themselves are not "easier" than fights in Vanilla, BC, Wrath, etc. The issue at the moment is that the fights are completely pre-tested by the top tier raiders that will be competing on them. In fact, if you want to have a hope in the world race, you have to pre-test the raids in Alpha, Beta, or the Public Test Realms. Because of this, regardless of how complicated or difficult Blizzard creates the fights to be, it's never going to take as long to down them when all the raiders competing for the #1 spot have already seen the content multiple times and tested it extensively. I'm not sure how you expect the content to last longer than 4 weeks when top end guilds have strategies for each boss fight before the tiers are even released (and often have video footage from multiple sources to supplement what people remember of the fights). And even then, some of these bosses have taken guilds 300-400+ pulls to down. They're just willing to literally raid until the content is cleared. The great irony here is Blizzard doesn't need a QA department for their raid content because of the raiders willing to do it for free. I have several old friends that did such things and thinking back on it they all thought it was an honor. So they make this content, have players test it, gate it, and then leave the game alone for 6 months not updating shit. And people keep playing it. :frustrated: I honestly just abhor the company.

They are different and should not be compared They are MMO's that share the same demographic and market. That's why they'll always be compared. I'll prolly echo something that's been said a million times and say WOW sucks now, FF is better etc. Not because bandwagon but because it's just...it's just true in my estimation. WOW is essentially a poorly balanced pinata farm these days where FF actually has difficulty to the content. The biggest thing I can point at, really, is for all their attempts at making things 'accessible' in WOW it seems all they really accomplished was still having Mythic content out of the grasp of casuals and way too easy for the hardcore to the point where they have to gate-release bosses by weekly intervals else the dungeon will be farmed by Week 4 of release and WOW isn't exactly known for short patch cycles. Don't get me started on class balance I could go for days. I'm so thrilled when I see Yoshi jumping on that stuff after a few weeks when you sometimes had to wait EXPANSION cycles in Wow. Course I also came from the time of raiding where this was a requirement and have rose colored glasses from my floggings:

discussion Do You Plan to Kill Off Your Character?
Teadrinker replied to Virella's topic in RP Discussion
I've not yet felt it was 'time' to kill off one of my RP mains in FF. Opportunity presented itself and I shook my head at it because it didn't seem right. I played a character on a forum for...jeez. 3-4 years? I did finally kill her off but it was not a pleasant set of circumstances and was a tragedy for all intents and purposes. But it was a tragedy that 'felt' right, if that makes any sense. The characters I have in FF now are simply not eligible for death at this point anyway because they are linchpins in other players RP and I'm just not that much of a jerk as well. Perhaps some people don't take that into account but I do. If the OOC headache is severe enough I'm probably gonna say 'no' regardless of how good the story is but that's my PoV. I've found a 'near loss' of a person close to them is enough to leave a substantial impact on characters personalities without the end result of death and loss. -
My miqote has made many Doman acquaintances recently and is developing a slight admiration of their culture. *cough*

I sometimes wonder if folk have unrealistic expectations when it comes to how quickly they expect their RP to ramp up and how they expect people to react to their character and them as a player. With both of my characters I play the most frequently I spent a good solid month or two on both just herp derping around going to different public events and trying to form contacts. It was through those events that I eventually found an FC that worked for me and it all paid off. It really does take time and effort to establish a character. Browse the open events here on the RPC. Check out tumblr if that is your preference. Join an RP linkshell with announcements. These are all things that can help you but at the end of the day what it really takes is 'patience'. Something else I notice people do a lot (In general, not necessarily you OP) is sometimes folk can be very reactive RP sponges. Meaning, they tend to not really generate any of their content and if there isn't someone around them spinning arcs or events or storylines then their RP would pretty much grind to a halt. RP is a collaborative process that rewards the creative and the proactive. Being popular on a server ultimately means jack if you're not having fun. And if you're having fun who really cares if you're popular? Look for a group of people that jive well with you; not a prevalent guild tag or whatnot.

cancelled The Aethersteel Tournament
Teadrinker replied to Caex Vaeriar's topic in Chronicled Events
This made me think of Suikoden. Neat idea. Good luck with your event. o/ -
Greetings. Folk can call me Teadrinker. As far as my RP I'd call myself a moderate with the time I put into it but my RP tends to be heavy in intensity. As far as the rest of my time in game I help lead a Free Company on Balmung and I enjoy high level PvE content. Thinking of it, my background was mostly PvE until Final Fantasy. I had RP'd only a little in MMO's prior to it. Most of my RP has been via forums which I've done since I was about 14. As far as additional interests and hobbies I tend to enjoy writing in general, gaming, anime, tabletop and being a hermit. If you play Shadowrun you need to let me know, seriously. -bow-

I'll poke you in game. -
This is my opinion and estimation but a Limit Break is just an in-game mechanic you see across all the Final Fantasies. I've seen people describing their characters going ham as 'Limit Breaking' but they are using it as a descriptor. If you're actually RPing out combat then you're beholden to whatever rules you're using for the combat. If it's free form and I'm having people slaughtering NPC's or something and they "Limit Break" and type out something cool then that's fine but I don't think it makes LB's canon. In a more specific sense, if you mean the actual LB animations (Scholar Hawk, Dragoon Dragon, Astro Light show etc) I don't personally know of a character I play with that's powerful enough to actually cast one. Honestly, If I was in a position where I needed a super attack or heal like that, I'd rather write out my own unique one than copy the animation. /shrug

Seems hamfisted. What does this add to your narrative? Why do you need this etc.

Orchestrion Canonocity: The New Argument
Teadrinker replied to Warren Castille's topic in RP Discussion
I'd have no issue if someone got creative with it. Like say their avatar uses the item to put on some soft violin to set a mood or something rather than "I CAST RAVANA FIGHT MUSIC." Use lightly grain of salt type thing. -
@OP There are classifieds on Darknest and a linkshell for this sort of thing that caters to it much better than the RPC can. Try googling that and browse, you'll probably find what you're looking for. Moderator Edit: Removed quotes from posts that have been cleaned up. Direct any questions in regards to the edit to Nailah if need be.

Eh. Modern Vocation kinda falls into the "Game Mechanics don't equal Lore" category in my estimation but to each their own.

Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
Teadrinker replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
I'm scared that my ideas suck. I'm scared my spontaneous events suck. I'm scared my DMing combat sucks. I'm scared my plotlines suck. I'm scared I don't somehow manage to involve enough people. I get told the contrary all the damn time but like....ugh. Make it go away. Like I'm open to criticism and the people I'm with have offered it to others before I've heard them but there is usually none for me and I don't know if that means I'm doing a good job or if I suck so bad they don't wanna touch that shit. Like the bar I set for myself is sooooo fucking high. I don't pull the trigger on any idea or event unless I have meticulous amounts of thought put into it about who might do what and contingencies upon contingencies and weave plot and ideas into each other and into other characters backstories to try and loop them in and give everyone a chance to feel important and try to feel like they matter while still getting the general ideas across. Ironically though, I have the most fun with just a general concept and I'm just flying by the seat of my pants with someone I like and trust. /diatribe -
That'd be a hell of a can of worms to RP. If you got the folk around you to support that I say go for it sounds like it could be amazing. That aside, I opened this thread expecting Chris Hanson.

Well I'm screwed... Since Aoi's child will only be half Au Ra... As for your question, it'd depend how you'd want it to look but there's lots of way to go about it. Even in real life genetics there are dominate and recessive traits. It could be as simple as choosing a dominate side, as mentioned prior. Maybe a super short au ra for half lala? Might explain the 'boy' Fem Auri that we see walking about. This is an area I don't really bother with because it just seems like a massive headache. If you have the child look one way then SE comes out and states "these hybrids looks THIS way!" Now you essentially have to retcon your child's appearance. Just....meh.
