  1. If I remember right we didn't really get much details on Mhach until Heavensward. In fact, I don't even think the word Mhach was a thing until Heavensward. We knew there was a third kingdom in the War of the Magi but they never really got any light shed on them. About all I remember knowing back in ARR is "Yeah, there's a third one. We think it's the BLMs." My guess regarding this is these quests were probably written before all the details regarding Mhach were fleshed out in development. As it all came together and they slowly revealed more details...well. Now all the stuff they wrote out then to save 1.0 all seems a little lackluster. This is my guess, anyway. I usually tend to default to the most unextraordinary, logical answer when it comes to these things.
  2. I'm gonna go with localization translation on this one and 'gems' not sounding as cool as 'gem'. That's my gut though I'm not throwing lore at you here.
  3. I want to take a minute to just address 'clique' as it's used here. So if someone decides to RP with a group of people or just one person for an event then they are these evil clique people. Honestly? This just feels really strawman. It sounds like a way to blame this faceless, nameless concept when RP doesn't go your way. Is someone a jerk if they ignore you when you walk up? Hell yeah. I had that happen to me TODAY ON MY FRONT LAWN. (Rude af) Know what I did? I said "Wow, that guy is a jerk." and moved along and found RP elsewhere. It's not a 'cliques' fault. It's not the fault of people having a group of friends or an FC. Like this concept just honestly tries to make people feel bad for having a social group and that's frigging dumb. You want to hold people responsible for their actions? Cool. Awesome. Go for it. When you're aware of the entire situation. Odds are if you're defaulting to "Oh dude's just got a clique." Then you don't know. No new people walked up to me at the Gala. Did I respond to walkups? Yes. Was I there to really only RP with one person? Yes. Did wallflowers probably think me and my one person were probably a 'clique' because we have the same FC tag and not even bother to walk up? It's possible. Also shout out to the folk that put this event on. Stuff like this is NEVER easy and you guys deserve tons of props for doing it. You're literally going out of your way to create RP for the entire server and it often goes unappreciated. I APPRECIATE YOU.
  4. Because people want to RP the theme/atmosphere of the event and want to take part in it, want to support the event/hosts/community, and typically still want to keep the potential for new/unexpected interactions open, but also want to ensure they don't miss posts from the people they're RPing with and don't want to cause themselves any extra stress or pain. I did this. I don't get a lot of time for any one on one RP with a certain person due to their OOC schedule and this was a nice event so they went together and mostly paid attention to each other. It's not a crime. I responded to every walkup as well. Did I initiate any? No because that wasn't what I was there for. /shrug Edit: Also all the walkups I got were from people my character already knew. I never received a walkup from a new person.

  7. Eh. What people wanna do in closed RP is their business imo. I would just tread carefully when it comes to publicly brandishing such concepts that are outside the established norm of Eorzea. Aside from that, good luck, have fun OP.
  8. I think the only people confirmed to posses the "transcend" aspect of the Echo like that is Minfillia/Warriors of Darkness and they're, quite literally, the chosen of Hydaelyn. Could you? Yes. Should you? Eh. I think it'll be a lot more work and a lot less rewarding than you think, especially if you're trying to make connections.
  9. Honestly? I think who your character is/isn't attracted to shouldn't come up in a lot of RP interactions. If it's getting pushed that hard that it comes up in the first or second interaction then people are probably going to assume you're fetishizing it. This would be the sort of thing I'd really only RP in a close circle with people who I know won't flip and I'd tell them before about it anyway but that is my opinion.
  10. Great for RP, bad for PvE. People complain about 'bad' players enough as it is. Imagine queuing for your roulette and getting this. "Hi guys! Just jumped this Paladin, I have no idea what I'm doing so be patient k lol!"
  11. I think it's just a problem with the mindset of some individuals. I wanna point out something OP said. "Why am I not getting as much RP as I should?" I don't think OP meant this in reference to themselves but that they have heard other people say it LOT and I'm inclined to agree, I've heard it a lot too. But I have never heard it from a person who puts themselves out there and makes efforts to meet people ICly and OOCly. I tend to hear this from someone who wallflowers a lot, watches other people, says nothing, really makes no efforts to meet anyone and then wonders why people aren't just flocking to their character to spark RP. I don't think it really involves too many events or FC's on the server or anything like that. In fact, since there ARE so many if you put yourself out there and poke others then you should have no issue finding RP, right? Something else I tend to see is people who make these really mean, broody characters that essentially just grunt at their walkups and then the player acts disappointed when the character wanders off because Alucard the Death Lizard keeps acting like they want to eat them. Their characters don't know yours or have any investment I doubt it makes sense for their character to sit around and get huffed at. Other times the player just might not have created a very interesting character. Yes, I said it. It takes a bit of experience and finesse to craft a character that falls in the right spot between too typical and special snowflake but if you're starting from scratch and looking for connections then you're going to want to make that effort and falling on either side of that spectrum is NOT advisable. At the end of the day, I don't think the question should be "Why am I not getting as much RP as I should?" and ought to be "What can I do to generate more RP for myself?" On a side note though, if you're in an RP FC and you keep trying to spark and start up RP and it never happens then it's time to shop around. This post isn't pointed at that.
  12. I don't know if I'd refund either, honestly. I'd keep the gil for a possible redecoration/rebranding. Also if you'd like to shoot me a PM about it, I don't mind if you'd want to come lamp at some scheduled/improvisational RP we have going around. It could give you some ideas about the -how- to run things since I notice that is usually the biggest roadblock most face.
  13. See, I would give these guys a warning and set an example of the behavior that is expected by starting some open RP and inviting others via FC chat etc. If they kept behaving this way I would remove them, not because of 'cliques' but just because....douchebags. Who WANTS to alienate people in RP? Doesn't that defeat the point of RP? :frustrated:
  14. I just...this is one thing I don't really get. Can someone define clique for me in this concept? Just because a group of 2-? different people enjoy or are used to RPing with each other doesn't mean you need to address it or DO anything about it. Are they friendly to other members? Are they not alienating others? Do they hold RP out in the open, friendly to other members walkups? If they are then leave them them alone imo. Too often I see this leveled at people who just enjoy each others company when they themselves are more inclusive than the people lobbing the word around. I can't speak for the OP, but in my case, I guess I mean "to address the perception of cliques." A lot of the time, new or existing members of an RP guild will blame their frustrations on "cliques." They imagine that the reason they're not getting RP is because everyone is already paired off in private scenes with their BFF's, with no room for inclusion of others. This is why I recommend getting everyone in a Skype room, or whatever, and just talking to each other. In my experience, it's far more common that multiple people are placing the accusations on "cliques," when the reality is that everyone is just too shy to RP or speak up, or they're just plain busy or burned out. This is also why I mentioned having RP hooks posted, which would be open to anyone. Give members some tools to take initiative and get involved, and help them break through those perceived "clique barriers." The the very concept that it's somehow an FC leader's responsibility to break through others rather egocentric and self depreciating perceptions is ridiculous to me. The general idea should be to encourage inclusive RP. If Bob and Dylan like to RP together then great. Just as long as when Steve comes around they invite Steve to play too or don't turn him away or ignore him when he posts. As long as they do that then there is no issue. Letting your member's insecurities rule your actions is a swift path to a rather brutal burnout.

  16. Warning: High Speed Opinions Inbound. The following is what has worked for me. 30 people Your headcount is already too high. When you end up with an FC with a lot of characters in it you end up with redundant concepts, redundant races, 10 people playing the same IC class and all feeling like copies, etc. This is not taking into account the people who inevitably may slip past your app process (Assuming you have one. If you don't then there's another tip) and be troublemakers. Here's how I think about it. Your characters and all the others in your FC are in an ongoing story. However, each story can only feature so many characters. How do you plan to get to all these people? Unless your playerbase is very self starting and self motivating (most will never be, they sort of expect RP handed to them on a platter it's infuriating) you are going to run ragged and die trying to generate RP for all these people. Just....don't do it. Take it from someone who tried and someone who's been around long enough to watch others try and burn out into crisps. That and if you were to ever run FC plots or personal plot events or anything like that how in the world do you plan to organize that with that many people? We have a general cap of about 16 people in large events and even when it gets that high we will narratively find a way to split groups else combat takes 10 years. FC Direction I'm of the mind that organic RP makes the direction of the company. If everyone in yours is acting like it's an inn and tavern....well then hell. Open an inn and tavern. Don't take these people acting like square pegs and start shoving them into round holes. From there, you can run events that suit the framework. It's an inn. Ok, maybe a room is haunted now. Maybe there was a murder in Room 23. Maybe...I don't know, anything. Literally anything can be interesting because the people poking at it don't know what's going on. If your issue is you wanted one thing and ended up with another then you'll honestly have to start from scratch. That probably isn't great to hear but honestly it'll be easier doing what you want with a clean slate tha it will be trying to force and wrangle people just because you feel like you need a member count. Some RP FC's get this weird thing where they're like WE HAVE SO MANY MEMBERS ISN'T IT GREAT? No. No it's not. Officers These people will make themselves known. Honestly, you don't pick them. You spot them. You know that guy who is always around RPing with everyone? You know that one guy who always seems to have a neat idea for things and might be the only one trying to host events and it's a major weight off your shoulders when he does? You know that guy who, for the past few months, has really had their character step up ICly to run stuff in the company and taking things on? These are your officers. No, they might not be who you wanted or who you expected. But do you get along with them? Are you friends? Do you like RPing with them? Then there ya go. Their self starting and positive attitudes trickle down and you'll find yourself with a more motivated playerbase. Honestly, OP? From what you've described I'd close up house and take a month out and recharge my batteries and come back with a fresh concept you feel really motivated to do and have a zillion ideas for popping out of your head. Start small, be picky. Don't just take people to take bodies. The second you do that you've sabotaged yourself. /salute Good luck.
  17. Ishgard was full of a bunch of meanies and the cute guys were all jerks so she went out into the big bad world and is currently getting her shit rocked.
  18. I remember Illust coming around for a tavern night and we held a while ago and we enjoyed her personality.
  19. I feel like a lot of their origin going to be expanded upon further when we learn more about Zodiark and Hydaelyen and get the inevitable Othard xpac.
  20. [Mod PlagueMask] This is a final warning for this thread as it's had about four as of this time as well as several inflammatory posts bearing no relevance to the topic removed from it. Posts echoing or quoting said posts have also been cleaned. [/Mod PlagueMask]
