We can't see the server architecture obviously but I'm convinced without some sort of massive hardware addition they're going to have problems and players will want for space or get gated behind error messages. I was getting the zoning error message today trying to get into a house. However SE has all this configured (and believe me, I don't know) it obviously can only handle SO many instanced spaces. See: Unable to load into houses/apts, Raubahn Savage, etc. I agree adding instanced housing is likely the only solution. It pains me that not everyone will have access to the outside of the houses and how beautiful the wards can be but unless they want to bleed money in server resources this is likely the ONLY solution. Either way, they're looking at dumping some serious money into additional resources to begin with since loading into instances is already an issue. Just slapping up more wards is like putting a strip of gauze on a gushing wound. At this point it's not a fix as much as it is adding frustration to the players. The entirety of the system needs an overhaul because, as is, it's destroying the community Yoshi said he wanted servers to have.

I don't think anyone comprehensively can with any authority without using conjecture. We just don't have that information. Hence why I labeled what I did under "My Dumb Opinion." To me, if any Joe Schmo could learn time magic with no limitations Eorzea would have exploded a long time ago. Same thing with pretty much any advanced field of magic which is why these classes are so testy to RP.

I'm 99% positive this has been addressed elsewhere but afaik Sharlayan Astrology is Sharlayan Astrology. There is no other (official) version of it at this time. Ishgardian Astrology is starcharts and tracking their movements, mostly to predict movements of the Dravanian Horde. It did not involve aether or starglobes. You can learn it by being taught by someone from Sharlayan, being Sharlayan, or by attending the Athenaeum Astrologicum in Ishgard.

Second Coil will always be important to me. Mainly because I'm just happy I went and did it and met the people I did.

The few bells that had been allotted for searching had nearly expired. It was a fact that Myles knew yet was keeping as far from the forefront of his conscious thoughts as possible. He approved orders when they came with a stoic nod, denied few when necessary and continued about his nearly autonomic functions. Soon his small refuge from the storm around him collapsed as the pieces that composed his tent were packed and loaded to caravan. His gaze then turned to the digsite that Arianna had disappeared into hours prior, the shoddy wooden framing around it to keep the entrance stable from collapse. He tried not to think of how they’d have to close it up behind them. They’d not risk anyone finding what they started and destroying or looting anything precious held within. His eyes winced shut as he forced the thoughts that followed that line of thinking from his mind. Suddenly, high pitched voices began shouting at the site entrance. His heart skipped a beat as his eyes shot open. “What is it..?!” His voice demanded as he marched over to the half dozen now crowding the area. Two men emerged from the glorified hole in the ground, carrying an exhausted looking blonde between them who looked weighed down by the canvas messenger bags pulled across each of her shoulders. She was filthy, dusty and a bit bloody with scrapes and cuts. Yet the sight of her couldn’t have put Myles’s heart at more happiness and peace. Everything clicked into place then. The next order was simple. “Get ready to move out..!” He shouted with newfound authority. “We need not tarry any longer and becomes casualties of this damn, pointless civil conflict..!” With that he dashed to the woman who was being loaded onto a stretcher in one of the caravans. She blinked up at him giving him a characteristic smirk. He smiled back. Even in her state she had a shite-eating grin. “Too bad we can’t stay longer..” He lamented, crawling into the caravan beside her. “To do so would likely mean our own deaths.” He smiled wistfully. “Though I loathe the thought of returning empty handed..” The tired woman tried to sit up and collapsed, coughing and sending the dust still caked to her blowing about. Her hand gripped the strap of one of the bags attached to her. “Not empty handed..” She assured her partner through labored breaths. “Not empty handed..”

It seemed to be the way the Spinner liked to work, piling hardship on top of misfortune he was already experiencing. When it rains it pours so they say. Myles received the call he’d never forget while in the midst of organizing the rescue party for Arianna. The camp had suddenly come alive, a half dozen or so of their research team preparing to break into the tunnel to fetch their lost comrade and his closest friend. He knew they didn’t have much time. Wherever she’d fallen there could be a lack of breathable air, obviously no light depending on if her lantern had survived whatever he’d heard. He knew she had rations on her but those would be out in 3 days maximum. “...are you listening to me?” A man’s voice spat into his ears. The larger Highlander loomed over his much thinner frame yet it was the man’s comforting hand Myles found upon his shoulder. “I know you have a lot on your mind right now but you have to think about the bigger picture. According to that report, Theodoric has began cutting off water supplies. He moves on the temples in earnest as we speak. The situation is falling apart and there’s no longer a precedent of safety to warrant our staying. This expedition is over.” Myles bit back the panic he felt swelling in his gut with a tense fervor. His mind stuttered like a broken record at the onslaught of what was happening. He was no leader. This was Arianna’s job. Now she wasn’t here. His comrade’s hand slid from his shoulder. “Give the order to evacuate. We can afford a few bells to spare to search for Arianna but once it’s expired we need to withdraw.” With that the Highlander’s eyes lowered and he turned away, brushing the flap of Myles’ tent aside as he paused at the exit. . The mild mannered Midlander flopped into a wooden chair, his head falling into his hands. He knew he was right. He knew. And yet… “Do it.” Myles said finally, picking his head up and leaning it against his folded hands in his sitting posture. The Highlander nodded and swiftly exited. The inside of his tent seemed quiet then. The eye of the raging storm of activity around him. The breaking down of the temporary living quarters, the packing up of perishables for beginning the journey. They’d already rationed what water they had left in preparation for the journey outside Gyr Abania until they made it safely into the Shroud. There was even talk of just leaving most things and starting emergency teleportation incantations. It was a drastic feat he hoped wouldn’t be necessary and a journey he hoped they wouldn’t have to begin until Arianna was found. His fist gripped the wood of the makeshift table near him then finally relented. This was self-reflection he didn’t have time for. A selfishness no one else would have allowed themselves. His legs tensed and he finally stood, beginning his own long preparations for the journey. Twelve damn it… why was he so weak?

Year 1552 of the Sixth Astral Era - Gyr Abania "Ow.." The back of her hand came to her eye and gently rubbed at it. Dirt fell from the ceiling of the enclosed tunnel she crawled in, crumbling into wisps as it fell in the dim light of the lantern she carried. Taking a brief respite, the blond woman ceased crawling and let her shoulders relax and her head droop for a few moments. Wasn't she getting tired of this..? The answer came so quickly she snickered at herself. No. No, she would never get tired of this. Her pearl buzzed in her ear at the lowered volume she kept it to avoid any booming sounds from caving in the stone and dirt around her. "Arianna?" Came a familiar voice on the other end. "How far in are you? We can't see your light anymore." It was true, she'd been crawling a while. But surely this tunnel led somewhere. It had to. She picked her head up and looked to the dirt caked walls. Ancient ornate carvings that signified nothing to her stared back, the paint still visible in some places. Who knew how long ago this passageway had caved in? In all probability she likely crawled atop dirt that filled a corridor in a ruin from ages past. It'd been sheer luck that her team managed to find an opening. They'd originally figured they were digging around a long buried tablet in the dirt until their prize had crumbled inward upon itself, revealing a long forgotten and truly tantalizing passageway down into the ground. Caution was initially raised about entering. The wise choice was to wait and return with a larger team and more resources to proper excavate the area. Time was not a luxury this group of archeologists had on their side, however. Glancing again to painted carvings on the wall, she resisted the urge to stroke them with her hand. To touch something that had likely gone unseen by anyone for the better part of 1500 years. Yet she'd never forgive herself if any part of it was permanently damaged due to her selfishness. Raising her hand to her pearl, she responded softly to the inquiry. "I hear you Myles. I'd wager I'm....50 yalms past the last mark point." She answered back, glancing back behind her for good measure. She was pushing herself hard. They departed in only a few weeks and Gods knew when they'd be able to return. In truth, they should have left much sooner. Ala Mhigo was dipping into chaos, it's current monarch seeming to possess a vendetta against his own people and their beliefs. Perhaps it was the scientist and archeologist in her that was to blame for her selfish thought processes. This land was so rich in history, so far beyond even the great cities and roads the hearty people of Gyr Abania had managed to build in the harsh clime. Did their King not know what he risked destroying? Did he not understand what his people and land sat upon and how it should be guarded and studied? Well, if he didn't know she sure did. The thought spurred her forward as she began to crawl further down the narrow tunnel. "I'm continuing on." She finally reported back. "I should be fine. This is an opportunity we cannot waste." The man's tired groan on the other end of the pearl sounded a lot like exasperation. Whoever Myles was it sounded like he was all too familiar with Arianna’s antics. "You've got 30 minutes. Any longer and I'm sending in Scuff to drag you out by the pant leg." She snorted a laugh in reply and kept crawling. Scuff was the man's damned carbuncle. She hated the things. "Why do so many of them seem to have bad attitudes..?" She wondered silently to herself as she pressed on. “Though I suppose I’d have a bad attitude too if someone named me ‘Scuff’..” Her thoughts drifted back then to the more warming thoughts of home and hearth, the schooling they’d undergone when he’d first summoned and named the damned thing. These thoughts often kept her company during her crawling treks. It was surprising how much introspection one could get done in these sorts of situations. You truly are in a hole in the ground with nothing else but your mind after all. She thought of their home in the Old World, her husband, son and daughter she’d temporarily left behind to take this once in lifetime opportunity. Part of her longed to return, especially for her daughter who was but a few years old. Yet her work here was not yet finished. Her partner's voice filled her ears again. "So, how do you think they're going to take it..?" He asked suddenly. "You know. Coming back with nothing?" He sighed. "I don't expect to see this area of the world again. At least not with it being fully funded.” He mused in discontent. “So much is picked over or destroyed. I just hate thinking about it, you know? I hate knowing that so much of this history and knowledge is to be lost for selfish reasons..” She groaned at his words. ‘Mopey Myles’ as he was. "Why do you think I'm down here getting dirt in my eyes?" She quipped, stifling a cough of the musty air. "We're not going to come back empty handed and you're not going to have to worry about all that. So stop it." She assured him. The man chuckled. "You insisted on heading down there yourself! I said I would have gone." He sighed. "Though in the end you don't have to worry about not being able to come back. I'm sure if you desired to return and excavate you could likely afford such what with having married a politician and heir to a publishing fortune.." She temporarily muted her pearl as she sighed in exasperation. A mopey Myles was truly poor excavating company even if he wasn't wrong. The whole entire world was his enemy when he got like this. It seemed to be happening more and more frequently as well. Adjusting her voice to a more upbeat tone she unmuted her pearl and replied. "You know that if I come back I'm taking you with me anyway." She began. "You're my partner in crime on these journeys. And what is Arman going to do, object to me doing my job? This is what I do for a living. Someone has to preserve this knowledge and he doesn’t disag...ah!" The sound of cracking and dust crumbling filled the end of Ari’s linkpearl then all he heard was silence. He sat in their camp above ground, the moon just beginning to peak in the night sky as the gravity of the situation fell upon him. “Arianna..?!.” He shouted into his pearl only to get silence back.

I am not on the Jenova server, however if you have any questions about the community or random curiosities of certain aspects of RP I'd be happy to discuss them. Just shoot me a PM at your convenience.

The best way to increase reply time is to have a good grasp on who your character is and their personality. Fleshing them out in these regards and becoming familiar with them means that their reactions will come to you more quickly and fluidly. Good luck in your search for contacts and don't forget to check out the Free Company and Linkshell Halls for Mateus!

To this magical land called suspension of disbelief. If need be I'll just emote that my character tied their chocobo up outside or some such. It's easy for me to imagine a chocobo hitch of some kind outside settlements. If it's out in the world then hell. Tie the reigns to a tree. Or just have them follow you via the gyshal greens mechanic. I've never been in a scene like this with anyone who had more than a chocobo mount but I'd imagine it could complicate the IC situation and require more jazzy ways of addressing it.

So it's a different language that is almost indiscernible from the Eorzean tongue in the Japanese version? I didn't see where it specified written text only but then again does it matter? If it's written one way then it's spoken that way too, right? This is why I'm just washing my hands of it at this point. I just plan to RP this out in the way that my partners and I are comfortable.

The laxidasical attitude with which this was answered has me both laughing and also kind of shocked. And then when I think about it more and about what he said I find myself coming to the same reaction and conclusion. "Sure. Or not. You decide." I'm glad they acknowledged the pitfalls of having Japanese be the same as Hingan since that essentially makes it Eorzean canonically. However moving along in the response he ALSO says "Hingan is almost indiscernible from Eorzean in the Japanese version." At this point I have no idea if it's a different language or not cause it's starting to come off like you have 2 versions of canon here. It's like when Brock held up the onigiri and called them jelly donuts in the English version of Pokemon. The great Hingan debate aka Brock's Donuts. In the end I took as his response as essentially this: "Do what you want I don't care."

The short answers are Plot Device 3000™ and Plot Armor™. I wish there was some long and in-depth answer that could be provided but there really isn't. At this time this is headcanon. We know that as a result of the Flow spell that Y'shtola had to be plucked from the lifestream and essentially reassembled into a corporeal body so it's safe to assume that Minfillia got sucked into the lifestream and...did not get reassembled. At least not anything walking around in meatspace. Whatever spoke to the Warrior of Light seemed more like a mouthpiece than actually Minfillia. It's heavily implied that Hydaelyn 'knew' these events were going to occur so she 'called' Minfillia to do what she did a.k.a. go get almost smushed by rocks and get swept up in the Flow spell so she could pull her from the Lifesteam. If this is indeed the case then it would seem that Hydaelyn ALSO knew about the First Star and that Minfillia was going to be needed to be sent there with the Warriors of Darkness which is, presumably, where she is at present time in the story. It's also said that Minfillia 'hears' Hydaelyn with a clarity that even the Warrior of Light would envy, that was her big strength was her connection to the mothercrystal. It's possible that ONLY Minfillia could fulfill the role she's presently in. This is, however, logical conjecture. My opinion on it all is far less flashy. Minfillia was not a popular/functional character. She really didn't do a whole lot but call the WoL on their pearl and dole out tasks. She was a glorified questgiver whose role in the ARR storyline had ended so the writers put her on a bus. That and she would have clashed horribly with Lyse and competed with her for screentime in Stormblood since the two are....indistinguishable in many aspects. Is she 'dead'? No, not likely. We'll maybe see her again in a late SB patch or the next xpac but it's going to be when the bad guys are the Ascians and Zodiark again.

X'rhun explains the connection to Theodoric real early in the questline when you're in the graveyard at Saint Adama Landama. It's important to note that Red Magic seems to have had it's own unique identity before the Duelists got a hold of it and made it all "For Ala Mhigo!" That very much appears to be a Crimson Duelist thing and not a Red Magic in general thing. There's a part of the questline where you go digging around in/near the Ziggurat and find alchemical formulas, histories of Amdapor and histories of Red Magic. Archeological information on learning it appears to be available to those who look hard enough for it not to mention the Sharlayan connections. Additionally it's also ambiguous if the art actually even requires a soulstone to use. Judging from the quests, you could learn it from tablets or records. My personal headcanon (Read: this means my opinion) is some advanced RDM abilities might require a soulstone but it doesn't appear Arya has one and if Alisaie does it hasn't been showcased. If you wanna Jolt and Verthunder/Aero and Corps-a-Corps your sword around all fancy like then go ham. The fact that it seems so easy to pick up and learn makes me really balk at the "Crimson Duelists are the only Red Mages" stance. It just doesn't make sense. So despite the information being so readily available for the picking in and around Gyr Abania there is absolutely no other group of Ala Mhigans in the region that know it or no researcher in Sharlayan learning it or no archeologist digging stuff up about it right now? Even without the line of dialogue below I'm not inclined to find that logical. There's a line of text after you find Lambert where it says that X'rhun and the Duelists "studied the faded teachings" and either taught themselves the magic or were perhaps taught themselves. Did they have a teacher? Did they learn it from written archeological finds? You can really infer it one way or the other from this. My question is: Where's all this generational passdown? We don't really know. We don't get to see it. This is the kind of stuff SE has a habit of leaving painfully ambiguous and ends up getting answered at a lore panel the next year.

I'm of the mind that it's better for people to know what they're getting into. Communicating in general just prevents people from getting upset about something down the line that was easily addressed in the beginning. RPing a character like this is rife with pitfalls and I frankly don't suggest it unless you've got a thick skin and good communication skills. Example: "Why didn't you tell me he just wasn't going to want to get to know anybody at all I wouldn't have wasted my time." or "Why didn't I know they had an inclination towards doing bad/evil to my character etc?" I've had players place their characters behind a "try to get to know me" wall so thick that I gauged that it honestly wasn't going to be an interesting or rewarding use of my time to try and RP with them. Maybe someone else will be down for that kind of thing but it's usually not my cup of tea. Good thing for me and the other guy that I knew beforehand, eh? The line between actually metagaming IC knowledge and just giving a player an OOC heads up that a character is a jerk is very thick and should be used to prevent issues. It's no more "metagame" than someone putting an alignment on a wiki. If I know a character is a truly evil/mean SOB I'm not gonna throw my cinnamon roll into their path if I have no interest in her getting squashed by them. It's just better for everyone if you put up the right signs to indicate these things so players do not engage in rp they don't ultimately want. -

I have never met a person who has needed that level of explanation to explain the game's graphics in RP in 3-4 years. There's usually a really understandable suspension of disbelief that "maybe a strap just isn't animated there." TL;DR No explanation required. This is a subject that's been discussed a few times. Pretty much if your character is going to act standoffish and reject attempts at communication and make no attempts at communication then the lack of RP is the player's own fault. A way around this is OOC communication. Your character is more than welcome to have this kind of personality as long as you're not relying on stranger walkups and things like that. Post a thread in making connections and try to plan a reason for both characters to run into each other that your character IS motivated to be a part of. This reason should exist. If it doesn't then it might be time to go back to the drawing board. -
Hooray for balls and masques! Does your event have a dress code or anything like that? (besides masks, kek)

I have and have seen a lot of groups create their own roll systems that suit their needs. It also depends on how many people are going to be using it because roll systems can take a lot of time on their own and then you always end up with that one person who won't pre-write their posts and makes everyone wait 10 minutes while they emote. :dodgy: So you don't want to weigh it down with too many details. I found the greatest success was just making attacks deal X damage to boss and they devise how the attack would be emoted/performed in ways that make sense for their character so everyone is happy. Add some kind of "Limit Break" baton that can get passed around and you're generally good. Devising your own personal system to suit your needs at the time is what I've found the most success with. As far as one on one sparring I just let people figure that out between each other. If two people can't OOCly figure out how it's "fair" enough for their characters to fisticuff ICly then they probably just...shouldn't.

You can be engrossed and interested by a fictional world, be it of your own creation or anothers, and still be aware it's fictional. This, in no way, damages quality of writing or how a character would reasonably act in a situation. 1st person in RP is gross and just looks weird to read. (opinion) Uh. Heheheh. I'm just imagining RP pausing now for someone to announce "I'M TOTALLY FEELING IT NOW." (can you feel it now, Mr Crabs?) No, this doesn't occur that I have seen. Sometimes there is commentary on how awesome a situation or scene might by but that's about all I've seen. There is no separation or etiquette here. What it sounds like you might be looking for is someone who likes to get as deep into your RP as you do. I've had people comment to me that as far as character depth I tend to play at about a 12 while most people play at around a 5. My suggestion would be just keep hunting until you find a person or people who enjoy writing on the same wavelength you do. You'll likely know it when you find it.

I hate this subject. But here. But then we have Hancock saying this later about Yugiri and Gosetsu. So, it would seem private merchant sea vessels do NOT aggro the Garleans even if clearly Eorzean affiliated. On another note, as far as RP goes, I am handwaving the CRAP out of this. It's too much of a pain in the ass for my tastes and too much of a crimp in the ol RP. There's simply NO way I'm locking myself for 2 months for...just to do it lol. I've seen other groups of people also attempting to use aether crystals to offset the tax on their reserves from the teleportation journey but afaik this isn't lore viable at all. It's sort of like dumping a bucket of water into a river and saying it's helping you float. I'm not really...making a stink about it though cause the hoops here just suck to jump though. What I plan to do is I'll RP out the journey on the boat for a few days then afterwards do aether teleportation with the character resting for a day or so afterwards and will likely call it good.
