  1. Lots of FC's or groups end up making their own homebrewed systems though there are more standard and simpler ones widely used so those more unfamiliar with each other can play with a degree of fairness.
  2. Alright boys, listen up. No, I kid. But legit, the Invision boards don't let us set it up the same way the old one did. We're still in the process of placing more immediate fine touches on stuff (the theme, site navigation, Clubs/FC's/LS's etc) this is likely something we'll touch on once all that is ironed out. If you have feedback or suggestions directing them towards the Q&A thread is a good idea. o7
  3. Honestly, I've rp'ed as a Miqo, and AuRa, and a Midlander and I've had the best times on the former two when I was just able to play them like people. Miqote fall into this hole a lot more than AuRa do from my experience. You get a lot more people trying to normalize catlike behavior into Miqote because it's chic or cute. Things like slurping milk out of bowls or mewing or pawing or their breeding lore or...whatever have you. You rarely see an AuRa go "Ok guys I'm gonna go sunbathe on that rock for the 6 hours to warm my skin up." In fact, I've never seen any normalization of lizardlike behavior in AuRa. Probably because it's not chic or cute. Honestly, I grew irritated with my Miqote and ended up rerolling her. She was so utterly dominated by the fact she WAS a Miqote by the rest of the community that wanted to see her in a particular light. She would so often get asked about her tribes (She was a Keeper), her breeding habits or her Sire or lineage that I just got so damn sick of it. Not to mention the times when she got treated like a weirdo ICly for raising an eyebrow at the yarn chasers, furniture sitters or milk slurpers. She was never allowed to actually be what I created and what I intended her to be and always got drug down into this muck of what people want Miqo to be. In the end, people will play things how they want to play them. I prefer Midlanders these days.
  4. Miqo are essentially Midlanders with cat ears and tail. Pretty much the same can be said for AuRa and their horns and tails. People play things how they want to play them though.
  5. I'm interested in participating in and supporting this. I should be accessible via Discord, I'll find a way to ping ya.
  6. Every villain or character that gets recycled in this fashion just means that we won't be able to see their like used in the actual plot of FFXIV which I find regrettable especially because a lot of the characters introduced in recent patches are very forgettable. Like the kid who takes you to Ivalice. What even was his name, idk. Or the one in the village in the MSQ? Forgot him too. It's weird. With Heavensward I felt like the world was this constantly churning, fluid mass and I was always greatly anticipating the next patch and the MSQ and wanted to see what would happen to the characters and Stormblood is very....I can barely even stay tuned tbh. Also, from the trailer, I feel like this is pretty much going to be like Star Trek VI and all our characters are going to sit around the table and discuss making nicenice with the Garleans. Except this version lacks the interest and complexity of a character actually being against the proceedings. Tbh most interesting thing I saw was Krile possibly discussing the Isle of Val. Give me more of that pls.
  7. Based on prior comments and my own curiosity: Will results still be counted if the participant chooses to not cite a character?
  8. People also complain when people RP in public in closed channels. At the end of the day, not everyone is going to be RPing up to yours or anyone elses specific tastes or standards. If you find people who don't jive with you then just leave them alone and vice versa. If you find yourself thinking "Man, I dislike the way they do things." Then just don't interact. If the groups insist on interacting ICly then make sure there is a lot of OOC communication to prevent problems so no one has reason to make waves later. This can pretty much apply to any facet of RP.
  9. People can say that what people say in /s is theirs to do whatever with all they want. At the end of the day though, if Bob doesn't want X situation having a major impact on his character because playing it out is going to make him loathe playing it then that's that. End of discussion. How and if you interact with Bob from there on out is your call. It's sounds like you're citing a particular situation without directly citing it. A lot of these situations have small details and nuances that you can really only factor in properly when knowing all the details so I'm not sure you're going to get the feedback you want here as it exactly pertains to this situation. What happened here could span the gambit from Bob feeling like he wasn't communicated with to others saying Bob just doesn't like consequences for his actions. The folk involved just need to communicate and work that out among themselves and I think that's the best advice anyone can give.
  10. I feel like this xpac has just been one huge merry-go-round of "Hey! that's cool! I can't wa....! .... Awwww.."
  11. Always communicate OOCly with the person you're spying on. A lot of times just publicly emoting that you're there and present and hearing things won't be enough. Just cover the bases, save yourself a headache.
  12. I don't include values if I can avoid it. I've also OOCly messaged people and let them know I avoid it and I've never had a problem. If hosting an event I'll have rp food/drink items be complementary or if serving in an establishment I emote a description of an exchange of gil without using a value. When rping in others venues I do the same. Never had an issue and it takes care of the money exchange. I pretty much got tired of the "Oh that's expensive!" From one person followed by "Oh these must be paupers items." From another because they have like 20 mil oocly. I just stay from values totally.
  13. This kinda boggles me. I've really yet to see an FC publicly open to recruitment with some ridiculous standards for entry. Not saying it's not out there! I just haven't seen it in a good long while. Yeah, maybe there's an app. And your character has to meet people ICly. But if that's all a little much then I'd question whether the person has found the right hobby. It takes a certain personality to keep things together, and I think by and large those of us who haven't found our groups to play with - Whether it be an FC or just a group of friends - Aren't of that 'leader' type personality. The one who sort of.. encourages the group down a given plot line or somesuch. The ingame DM as it were. So, in joining with an FC, we're getting that 'leadership' personality to follow. The RP sphere would be a better place if people were just better at realizing this and understanding it. A lot of people join FCs because they don't want to run anything and then want to get upset at the fact they aren't in charge of decision making..? Just acknowledging that it's your responsibility to find a theme and place for your character that makes sense for them and a place that that feels right OOCly and doing it would go a long way. FC's are hard enough to run as it is. Coddling people can quickly become unsustainable.
  14. I'd argue that this doesn't have so much to do with population or a population lock as much as it does with a lot of fallout happening around such open events. That and pretty much everyone I know (or know of) has gotten busier in some way, shape or form in the past 1-2 years. Even in my case I got a lot of ideas and plans and brainstorms but time is becoming more and more of a precious commodity. TL;DR Maybe we're all just getting old? To be totally honest, I haven't really felt any difference in Balmung as a whole. I feel the time constraint issue but that tends to just come and go in waves and doesn't really have to do with a server lock.
  15. I'd suggest focusing on his backstory and things that have happened to him to isolate fears or flaws moreso than focusing on the fact that he is a lalafell. They can be difficult to rp to begin with and adding fuel to that fire isn't something I'd personally choose but to each their own. Taking shots in the dark here, I notice he's bald. Maybe he hates hats. Maybe he can't grow hair. Maybe he's self conscious about it. Those sound hilarious to me actually. o/
  16. Well, it started out many many moons ago when I was like 12 on an anime message board. ... I wish I was kidding but yeah. It was pretty organic. Folk just started chatting and emoting little actions at each other with astaricks. It was typically stuff like using squirtguns or throwing pies. Through that it became clear that different folk clearly had different personalities and traits. Characters started to take shape. Different characters developed different habits over where they liked to hang out or sleep. Some liked just hanging out and chilling, some liked freeform sparring DBZ style, some liked cooking etc. I personally had the one that chilled in the rafters. Don't give me that look. Folks bedrooms started appearing and suddenly apparently there was a living room and kitchen. The one day the Papa Bear dad character emoted building a house for everyone and that's where they all lived Tenchi Muyo style. Are you cringing yet. Anyway, then things got complicated. Folks characters started trying to date. This went about as well as you can expect with a bunch of kids behind the keyboards. Place gigantic dumpster fire emoji here. Round about this time everyone knew each other OOCly even though none of us knew wtf OOC meant. It was just "Oh that's X and he lives in Y and his dad's in jail." and stuff like that. People kept in touch via AIM and Yahoo messengers. It was considered 'cheating' to talk over them while posting on the message board. Did I mention I was 12? Good. Ok. People wrote a lot of stories and fanfictions about all the characters hanging out together but they would do really cringy stuff like make X and Y break up in their story and insert Z into the mix. Villains appeared and boy were they one dimensional mustache twirlers. A lot seemed based off Sephiroth. Anyway, that's how I first started RPing. Quite by accident by emoting throwing pies.
  17. *enters venue* *starts searching for the The Black Door* I dig the name. o/
  18. I prefer freeform for duels/spars. I dislike tournaments because of the sheer level of "Chef shows up with spoon and rolls 100. You die." In actual plot combat I'll roll 2's all day and play it out. Someone being whiny about the outcome of this type of combat is something I haven't had to deal with in so long, guess I'm just spoiled. EDIT: Knock on wood, kids. Literally 10 hours later....smh.
  19. I'd take a step back and ask why you chose Xaela. Is there something in their lore that intrigued you in the MSQ? Did you like a tribe? The Stepps were pretty awesome. Once you've got that figured out you basically have the beginnings of a concept that can start to form and take shape.
  20. I don't understand the issue here unless I'm misinterpreting this. Not everyone likes soap opera style drama in their RP (I think that's more a matter of personal preference but I guess could be a "red flag" if someone has had bad experiences with that or believes it's indicative of some bigger problem) but it just sounds like... someone getting excited about the RP? Shouldn't that be a good thing? I love when scenes and role-play actually evoke some sort of reaction, or when the person I'm RPing with is excited for things we have planned, that's the whole fun of RP. I think what they mean is when someone preplans this kind of thing purely for drama's sake. Less so for progressing a story and moreso because they want to recreate Days of Our Lives: Eorzea Edition. "IC Drama" can also mean different things to different people. Like when I hear IC drama I think mystery and intrigue and combat etc. Someone else might think "love triangle" and think that's great RP meanwhile other people could be running for the hills.
