  1. Kupo butt donations are also welcome, kupo.
  2. He's really obviously a Roegadyn. Maybe he's a mix? :? Idk I can't tell by looking at him.
  3. THIS DROVE ME NUTS. Where did all that water come from? And I go back to the East Shroud expecting like a torrent and its just totally the same like the cutscene never happened. "The battle was high in the sky." ....WITH ALL THE WATER. Ok. I guess SE just thought it looked cool so they rolled with it. Also lol at the embodiment of Ala Mhigan pain and suffering being a gigantic Mushu. I could just go off about the Yda thing but meh. Oh also this. THIS. Yeah, ya think.
  4. Yeah, I'm not exceedingly pleased with the lack of RDM info. I can only hope we'll get more info or one of these websites or magazines that are landing interviews with Yoshi will hit on the topic. I certainly don't wanna wait till June. As far as chargen suggestions, what I'm doing is just focusing on every other aspect of the character possible and fleshing it out. I'll have to change some things depending on origin and lore but I'm trying to make her as transplantable as possible but her general personality, attitude and themes should remain intact. Hope that's helpful.
  5. Afaik there is just nothing concrete or official yet regarding Red Mage origin lore. There's a lot of SAM hype right now and I think we'll get a dose of that with the MSQ pt 2 but we'll probably have to wait for someone to either straight ask the question in an interview or play the RDM class quest in June to find out. Most folk are assuming that it's going to be Sharlayan related since the one NPC we have that might be a RDM is Sharlayan so if lore is a primary concern of yours it could be worth taking that into account and planning accordingly. Could peek around this thread if it interests you. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=18784
  6. Stripping away a lot of what I feel to be superfluous information, the only thing I really want to add is the following. I always ask this with any character I make and offer this advice to anyone. "Why does my character need this feature?" If you go over the array of things your character can call assets or strengths or even obtained via 'luck' and you can't answer why or how they need these things to progress the story or how it adds to it then it's usually time for some pruning.
  7. This is a good idea. Additionally, if you just want the limb loss, I don't think it's outside the realm of plausibility to just have the character's body reject the fake limb or he has a psychological issue with having one attached. Some other food for thought.
  8. Are we talking... ? As far as I'm aware. The cutscene with her sword came out 3 months-ish prior to the reveal so I'm wondering if later on they'll render her with the crystal and everything. I just don't know enough about the NPC in question tbh to say where/who she'd have gotten that from. Also RDM Limit Break could essentially be what we see her do. A big roomwide AoE spanning outwards from the caster.
  9. Mayhaps I missed it in the flyer but is there a preferred dress code for this event?
  10. So in the wake of the full trailer at fanfest I feel like a lot of people got swept up in the Doma/Samurai reveal and started putting together their kimonos and polishing their katanas in preparation. But what about the Red Mage? We already know what the main SAM NPC looks like and that he'll be involved with the upcoming two-part conclusion to the patch. We don't have such information for RDM, however. I did a bunch of digging and there is literally nothing out there besides class mechanic information and some screenshots. There was zero story/lore information I came across. *Sounsyy Signal* So I started thinking "Where does it make sense lorewise for RDM to come from?" and I came up with 3 options. 1.) Sharlayan. The general thought process here that makes sense to me is that there are more factions of mages that are becoming discontent with the way the the Biblothec party is running things and breaking off and taking their knowledge with them. RDM could be among these. 2.) Garlean. Alright, now hold up before you shank me. When I look at that sword and crystal I honestly see technology. It doesn't seem like it's out of Square Enix's realm of design to have had the Garleans try and manufacture a way to put their people on the same footing as the Eorzeans who can cast spells. Perhaps these two items have something to do with that and then the WoL/Eorzeans get a hold of them. 3.) Ala Mhigan. This one I honestly find even less likely than the Garlean theory. There's just no precedent for Ala Mhigo to have had a sect of flamboyant, red tuxedo wearing mages, I'm sorry. HOWEVER, I'm not going to put it past SE to inject it in there. Additionally, watch the Red Mage Gameplay reveal: ht6LWFFCPUw It sure looks like it could be the Gyr Abania side of Baelsar's Wall, doesn't it? So what do YOU think? Bear in mind, these are all spitballs. I tout none of this as canon or even headcanon and don't want to argue about any of it. I'm just curious what other's origin thoughts on the RDM might be!
  11. I feel like I annoy the shit out of people with excessive OOC communication due to past experiences where there wasn't enough. ....No, really sometimes I feel like I'm drawing flowcharts and stuff that led to this exact moment until people are like "I get it, no worries."
  12. You always want to be more wary of people who sit in circles and talk rumors more so than you want to be of ones who just seem to be trying to carry on and enjoy the game and their RP.
  13. Bottom line is drama starts with the people that ultimately WANT it there. This is a fact. Vetting vs. Harsh Kicking Processes. Pick one.
  14. I've always been of the mind that if someone complains that the application process is too rigorous then it means the application process is working for what they've tried to create. The best thing a guild can do is be as forthright as possible about what they are and what they do. If people don't read your website but then check the box that they did then that's their fault. When I shop for any kind of guild/fc (pve/rp whatever) I am scowering their websites or whatever they have at their disposal. I'm reading about how they do things, how they operate, what different ranks mean, etc. When I finally settle on something I usually feel pretty confident that I looked around to the best of my ability and I focused on what is the best fit for me and I have no problems with a rigorous application at that point. In fact, I'm happy to fill it out. I like seeing guild leaders put a lot of detail and care into their rules and how they structure things. It means someone gave enough of a damn to sit at their computer and think forward and prepare which means people are obviously invested in the place which translates into longevity.
  15. Square made a fictional world where sexism is a thing and that is ok because it's a fictional world. Getting bothered by that is silly. Choosing to RP in it and then ignoring that that is a thing is silly. Getting mad at it is silly. It's fictional. It doesn't exist. There are many more real world topics that could use that fire. That is a totally separate issue from the following. I'm not a fan of rape as plot device because it's done in a really cringy and hamfisted way 99.9% of the time. It's important to understand your depth and scope and talent as a writer before you inflict that stuff on people. Some of the best authors in the world will not touch sexual assault with a protagonist because they know they can't give it the sensitivity and depiction it deserves. There's certain areas of FF14 that allude to sexual assault and honestly they made me cringe because of how it was depicted. I'm not gonna get into the where and how and what but suffice to say I don't even really trust Square, let alone most RPers, to approach this topic with the appropriate sense of dignity and I don't think kicking it around here really serves much purpose either, honestly.
  16. /Modhat Try and keep this one as close to the intended subject of discussion as possible and keep replies prudent and relevant to the OP. It's a touchy subject so we're keeping an eye on it. [Discussion] Tag is on for this post. Explanation is here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=15773 /Modhat
  17. There's a Koji Fox quote from a lorecast where he's talking about cities on/around Othard being named stuff like Dalmasca in certain translations. The 24 mans are also Return to Ivalice. So MSQ could be Mhigo-centered 24 Man Liberating Doma/Ivalice 8 man Raid dungeon is Omega/Bend of Time This is a total guess/conjecture but *shrug*
  18. I think it will honestly have the same level of effect Ishgard had. Some folk will hop on that train SO hard and others not so much. Granted, I think the impact might be felt harder because I think the Samurai aesthetic is VERY appealing to a lot of people. (aka weebs like me) I don't see any RP hubs really changing and with SE's pattern of offering limited detail about the world the characters actually live in I see structure to build RP around coming up short because that has just been the precedent for years. Ishgard was the sole focus for HW yet we still clamour for details on how their system of Government actually works. With this being split between TWO nations I see details coming up even shorter this go round. On the other side of the coin, I'm hoping these city areas are huge. I'm hoping we get more than just an alleyway, a bar and the rich people area ala Ishgard. I WANT them to be super awesome and offer just ridiculous, drippy, gorey detail I can shove my face in but... *shrug* I fear it'll be more like Idylshire sized at worst.
  19. It's vague af. Honestly, if I kicked this particular issue around long enough I could blow so many holes in the overall plot and end up with so many huge questions that I just... I don't bother.
  20. I'd think not wanting your children to be half breeds or dissuading others from mating outside their race is...well. Racist. (Though debatably Eorzean status quo.) MSQ made me feel like Hyur's were pretty well treated as the substandard race in Ishgard among the two most populous.
