  1. I'm not Teadrinker so I'm not sure how he's trying to go at this, but just from reading, there are two ways that this can be thought of / handled, in my mind. I'm...not trying to go at this. I actually said it's not worth discussing and left it.
  2. I'm afraid this statement carries no value in a community that neither knows nor can collectively decide upon what constitutes "concrete lore". Some say that anything present in the game is canon, some say flavor text is never canon, some say 1.0 lore is canon and some say it isnt. This is compounded by the fact that we don't know the totality of the lore (only the devs do). Some take the world as being literally presented, others presume that settlements exist beyond what we are shown in game. What do you personally define as concrete lore? I think is more your personal observation or interpretation of the truth rather than the truth and not worth discussing.
  3. In general, I agree. This why I said what I did earlier about speaking to major RP partners OOCly beforehand if you plan on playing something really out there. Why that was met with such negativity I'll never know. I've always been in the position of the person being approached about it rather than approaching others. I tend to avoid any character concepts that make it so I have to do so. That being said, I have always appreciated the heads up. I had a gentleman speak to me once about playing something pretty god-modey. Normally, I'd have said no but this guy is pretty damn clever and talented and knows how to give himself weaknesses and concede so I said sure and told him not to get too crazy with it and we'll go with it. Point is I trusted the guy to not be an asshat with the concept. When you ask a general question like this on the forums you're gonna get a blanket answer. Establish yourself then if you want to play around with some more out there concepts then talk to your friends about it first. Keep it closed RP. No one cares or has a right to tell you what to do with personal plots. People only get pissy when you put them in the situation of having to acknowledge it in the open world.
  4. I remember a lore panel blurb that suggested something like this was in the works but I am not sure if/when it has or will come to pass. I would hazard a guess, however, that it would make your character pretty...probably same status as BLM or possibly worse considering it would be current events. Go directly to gaol.
  5. Or you can avoid mixing OOC and IC and just make sure it never comes up IC if you're really worried about it. But if you've played it really solidly, I doubt any decent RPer is going to have an issue with it, and if they do, they can speak to you then. Allegations and assumptions aside, anything can be awesome and solid depending on context and the skill of the writer. That isn't worth debating or commenting on. OP asked for general opinions and I have added mine to the discussion.
  6. Hey there are other cool options! Like time travel, or an ancient tome. The other possibility is just don't tell anyone. There is no requirement that your character divulge ICLY or OOCLY how they learned to handle succor. I feel like I need to stick a giant asterisk next to this that says * It might be wise to inform someone OOCly if they are showing to become a frequent RP partner so you don't inadvertently drag them into something they don't find compatible with the lore as they accept it. That sounds like an excellent way to spoil some interesting developments in character interactions though. Which can be avoided by not playing an exceedingly difficult character concept and just writing out an awesome narrative. Someone used the the word 'vapid' earlier. A revelation like "I'ma white mage." would kinda fall into that category for me. This is my opinion.

  8. Fantasia RP. Not even once. No, but really, in my humble opinion (this topic has been done to death too btw) it's very hamfisted and selfish to force the other RPers around you to just 'accept' you're magically a different race/gender/anthropomorphic animal. I never appreciate it and any efforts I've made to realistically play out the change are usually met with silence or "Stop RP shaming me." I'd say run it by your group of people you RP with. It's their opinions that matter to you, not ours. If it doesn't bother them and you want to do it then go for it.
  9. Prolly not. Your friend also stands a massive, if not almost certain, chance of everything he develops needing to be edited or retconned to comply with Samurai lore when it eventually does debut. I would suggest your friend just play a swordsman for now and develop into Samurai. It's GOING to come. He just needs to be patient.
  10. I'm just over here being the only person who dislikes the Witcher series.
  11. IMO there is very little that being a WHM is going to add to your narrative that you can't accomplish with a CNJ and you'll just get a boatload of dirty looks for essentially no reason. CNJ's are strong as hell and have access to most of the class abilities.
  12. I kinda disagree with this just because I know devs who's projects wouldn't get up off the ground without it. They honestly do try to do good work. There are scumbags that tend to just walk away with money though. :dodgy:

  14. Something really neat about Balmung is I know people who have transferred over for ONLY PvE and they come and look at the world and are just taken aback by how much RP there is. I've not met a PvER who's had an issue with the RP. In fact, most I've talked to said they prefer it because it makes the world feel so 'alive' and a lot of them end up trying it themselves.
  15. He has Jet's voice too. From Cowboy Bebop. Mmmm. Also this. pDqea9cWOn4
  16. Wow. Great idea. Could set the stage for some really interesting scenarios.
  17. You know, after looking at the interface you'll notice there is a "Defend" option. Given how reminiscent this is of Kingdom Hearts and how much this looks like a RTB Hack and Slash I kneejerked into assuming that as well....until I noticed that. Why would you have a selectable "Defend" option with a RTB system? You wouldn't. Perhaps it's just a updated and very pretty turn based system? ...... *crosses fingers?*
  18. Echoing the same grumbles about the combat. *waves cane* Gimmie my turn based combat/atb or get off my lawn.
  19. But see, this way you can burn brighter. Than the sun.
  20. From the small team they've got the amount of issues that DON'T make it live is pretty damn amazing. These guys have to be working themselves to the bone.
  21. Mages sucked pretty bad in T6 if memory serves.
  22. Gad. DAHM. I dunno who that second guy is but...hot under the collar? Yes. Your art is a pleasure to look at.
