  1. Some people just aren't going to RP that heavy and you can't expect them to. Also people enjoy their characters being aesthetically pleasing. This is why the cash shop makes money and this is why people will roll something because fuzzy cat ears. The person who rolls a race BECAUSE of lore is always going to be a heavier RPer than a lighter RPer who rolls a race because "I like the way it looks." Nothing wrong either way but there's a difference I think should be respected. These two groups usually don't have a problem staying on their respective ends of the pool anyway.
  2. This kinda irks me. Especially with major lorebendy things. If my character gets to know someone then all of a sudden the scooby doo mask comes off and they are something totally weird... I mean, how do you expect normal characters to react? Seriously. It's like being like "Hi, I'm an alien" except no one really gets the proper exposition to deal with that and then you expect them to show up at tavern night next Tuesday like you being an alien isn't a big deal. Idk I think it's lame but to each thier own. Underrated post. I super agree with this. Playing hidden aspects of your characters and telling no one IC or OOC can be really great and add a healthy dose of surprise to roleplay, like the rich merchant eventually revealing he was a dashing con artist all along. But when it comes to... far-out concepts like androids or whatever, it can be a bit of a gamble. Not everyone is going to like it, or even accept it. Especially people who like to follow and respect the game's lore to a T - and there really is no hard evidence that the Allagans could make KOS-MOS tier androids, so... I don't know. Something to be aware of. I know if I suddenly revealed to everyone I am involved with RP-wise that Edda is actually an intricate, heartless mannequin crafted by her father, I would seriously piss off more than a few people. :moogle: Glad I'm not crazy. I recently had a scene play out where someone reveals their character is a black mage (in privacy with a trusted group) and my rather normal character has the reaction of "..You're a WHAT??" Literally 10 minutes go by where I'm staring at my chatbox and everyone just ignores my post like my character is crazy for thinking that weird when I know damn well they know what's up with lore. That's that's just a black mage. If someone mysteriously revealed that they were an Allagan Android I would seriously consider retconning you and would DEFINITELY retcon you if you couldn't even allow my character or others to express being flabbergasted with the situation. My grand experience with these kinds of things is that everyone just wants to be special in some way but doesn't really want to do the necessary RP that comes along with being a power ranger and just be accepted for being a power ranger. *drops 2 cents and /exits* Well, I mean to reveal her true nature through a story arc, and it's meant to be shocking. My character herself will be shocked about it, I'm not gonna act like being an android is normal. The issue is you know you are playing a character that stands a good chance to fly in the face of people's accepted understanding of the lore. You know that or you wouldn't be posting this. If this was an idea you really wanted to do then you need to find an FC that is open to these kinds of things, put it on your app, and execute your plotline there with folk that -want- to be there. Don't go make friends in the Quicksand and neglect to mention you're a massively lorebendy character and spring it on them. That's just a dick move. Otherwise, find your like-minded group of people and knock yourself out.

  4. Mathematically, you are correct. People aren't going to play that way though and trying to force them to is not a battle you want to undertake. Since it's been suggested mixed breeds are now possible, even really weird ones that we have UTTERLY no visual base for like Miqo/Aura or Roe/Lala ... It's pretty much taken these kinds of arguments out behind the shed. Personally, I roll my eyes a little when I see really exotic pregnant couples wandering around but it's not lorebreaking. It makes a whole lot more sense for the females of both tribes to be city cats and not males but that's not gonna stop you from seeing Ul'dah populated with Nunhs. It's just the way it is. Can't change it and you're not gonna have much fun if you focus on it too much.

  6. I'd acquire the Sultana then kill her and morph into her every 2 hours (damn, she gotta pee a lot) and rule Ul'dah. Edit: Also bang the hell out of Raubahn while I'm at it.
  7. This is totally plausible. They're "city cats" as people here are wont to call them. Perhaps they fell in love and ran away to get away from being unable to be together. Write their backstories! Maybe he trained her to shoot or hunt. Maybe she saved him from the Sandworms and he was never cut out to be Nunh. Get creative. Have fun with it! Enjoy the time with the misses.
  8. I think it would be neat if these events could be open to RP crashing by bad folk and the poors.
  9. Having been stuck in that airport myself... Is it snowing? At least that was kind of cool to watch.
  10. Fitting Miqo'te in with other races works because other races are generally more tolerant depending on location. In pretty much any scenario I can think of in game where tribal Miqo'te are represented they just....do not seem like the kind to welcome outsiders. In fact. they are often portrayed shirking them. I see it being a very grudging process for the child. Kind of like Tarzan and Kerchak if you've seen the Disney movie. This definitely would be the case for tribal Seekers in my opinion. Keepers seem a little more flexible since they've been lore-ignored. I'd say if a Matron decided she was adopting this Hyur/Roe/Lala baby then I don't see anyone else questioning it but he might be subject to mama's boy teasing. My personal 2 cents.
  11. I cam give you a crazy easy gluten free peanut butter chocolate chip cookie recipe. Takes 4 ingredients and done in less than 10 minutes! And it does north taste like gluten free at all I wouldn't mind this at all! I can't bake though. No seriously, I'm awful. I made cookies with the consistency of cornbread yay.
  12. "Baby, I promise I won't mess up white mage lore again.." *GETS WHACKED* "OW. Baby, I said I promise! I'll stop RPing a Padjal...!" *WHACKWHACKWHACK*
  13. I'm baking gluten free cookies and taking them to my bf's. >_> Exciting. I'm lame as hell.
  14. You don't want this job. Lol. :cactuar:
  15. This is VERY well put and pretty spot on.
  16. An IC mentor for being a Dark Knight would warn you that if you gave yourself over to the darkness you would cease to be. As in, your previous personality is now taking a semi-permanent backseat to the BAMF that doesn't give a crap about killing that baby or running over that puppy. And until BAMF wants to hand the reins back over or you somehow manage to seize control you have to sit there in your own head, watch them do really horrible things and scream. I really can't see being a dark knight as being pleasant in any way - unless you like hearing the whispers of an angry God. It seems like a huge burden. Not to say that a character can't have a sense of humor or personality but I feel it'd be a shell. In solitude, they would be a morose, pensive, tormented person. Or at the very least a disconnected, emotionless one.
  17. Get to 50 and then you will have your question answered. If you give in to the darkness you are no longer you. So you couldn't be explicitly evil but you can definitely walk the line.
  18. I love your posts. Also yes, outdated is a nice way of putting it. Google penis envy. No really, do it.
  19. I feel like this gif represents the entirety of my existence except less cat.
  20. When I was a little kid and I played games on the playground with friends where we pretended to be cartoon characters or whatever we were all still friends after and we all knew who each other really were despite what we were "pretending" to be at the moment. I view RP as the adult version of that.
  21. Go to Quicksand. Find someone you don't know. Start talking to them ICly. Never talk to them OOCly except for big issues that need to be resolved. Have fun. I actually like getting to know people I rp with OOCly - doing PvE and whatnot with them. Actually being friends. Any reason for the rule? I assume it's to help OP achieve maximum immersion. If you start being friendly with someone on the OOC then you might even start becoming friendlier with them IC even though your character has no reason to. I suppose that's true. Hm. Just discovered I value Fun > Immersion >_>
