I find the concept original and refreshing. Also, I know that's not a connections thread but I can't let pass engineers just like that so... if you are interested in meeting other tinkerers IC, don't hesitate to reach me out!

Maybe someday she will have a node. When she will be all badass. In the meantime though... I wonder lore wise how common are actual horses in Eorzea? Just being curious.

discussion What do you mean, "Looking for storyline"?
Valence replied to Chompie's topic in RP Discussion
Bar RP (doesn't necessarily have to be in a bar, I would rather call it slice of life), is actually where most of the character development happens. It can happen in a bar yes, but it can also happen pretty much everywhere else: houses, in the wild or any location really. I just oppose it to action RP, and not to story RP. To me both action/combat/event RP and slice of life RP are part of the overarching story of your character. Both contribute in their own ways and merits. What your character will face in action RP, will then be discussed and reflected upon in the next slice of life RP. Or the opposite, where you will plan a mission or something in your slice of life RP session (in a bar or anywhere else), then do it in action RP the next time. I think that if your slice of life RP is never tied to what your character is doing and it's just... empty small talk however, then yeah... Maybe not the most fulfilling. That's also why I try every time I meet someone new ICly, to offer hooks and occasions to plan something else. It can be a job, a trip, a journey, whatever. It kicks things up and prevents the slice of life RP to stay flat and without any hope for a follow up. I think that most of my first IC meetings with new contacts has 75% of the time happened in bars, and yet... -
There is lots of software that just has to be installed, then just connect to a VPN server and that's it (just be aware that if you are using internet for something in the meanwhile, it will cut for a few seconds before getting to the VPN proxy and back up again). Anyway, nothing easier.

An acceptable timeframe for learning multiple classes?
Valence replied to Morningstar1337's topic in Character Workshop
We have examples of rather young geniuses all along History IRL. People that shouldn't normally be as skilled as they were in their thing. Absolutely brilliant minds, geniuses exist. I suppose it always boils down to the usual: do you want to be the next Da Vinci, or just someone ordinary? I don't mean that as derogatory though. Some RP circles actually want to play grand heroes like in many fantasy settings. There is nothing wrong with that. It's mostly a choice of theme and audience. -
Character development tool: character diamonds
Valence replied to Kilieit's topic in Character Workshop
I do believe indeed that it's the most fundamental part of character fleshing out. I don't create it the same way at all, more on the fly, but if you can't easily describe a character in a few key adjectives, then said character might probably not be very three-dimensional. Or at least, it doesn't stick to memory. If you can do that right away, then it's probably a sign that the character has flavour and is noticeable among many, and doesn't fall flat. However since it's easier to do that yourself as the character creator, I do think that the best testimony your character can get is actually when someone else has to describe them with those keywords. If they manage to do it easily because it's obvious enough, then you win. But yeah I mostly use that as pillars for a character, same as here. It doesn't mean they can't change, but changing them implies heavy character development and probably a shit in the character themselves, which is something that normally happens for very strong IC causes and consequences. Anyway, mine are: Quirky, Nosy, Crafty, Scatterbrain, Punk, Assertive -
I'm assuming that chocobos are also known and maybe even used before the appearance of Magitek by Garleans. I don't think it's a hazard that their Reapers are directly modeled after them. ( okay granted, it's a FF6 rip off and all, but still ) We know only scarse info on how Garleans actually rule their conquered nations, but what we do know is that the more those nations get confrontational with their invader, the harsher the garleans will be in return. Most of the nations surrounding the Garlean Republic in Ilsabard were either conquered by force, or some joined willingly. We know absolutely nothing on them, but they seem to have been left mostly alone as long as they participate to garlean society (conscripts that have to do a certain amount of years of service before becoming true citizens, otherwise they are treated like shit). They keep appointing their own governors and leaders, and keep most of their way of life however. But in the case of difficult cities like Ala-Migho that continue to rebel and run guerrilla against the empire, and Doma that outwardly revolted massively, it's a whole different story. The former are living under an iron rule and harsh curfews and rules, and the latter got burned to the ground, razed out of the map.

Ceruleum in its processed form is a bit like oil yes. It is a distilled form of pure concentrated aether in liquid volatile form. It can be harvested from the earth but it can also be processed from aether crystals. So, the mine concept stands in my opinion. Also, and that's going into the realm of speculation here, but I actually believe that Magitek equipment for the Garlean Empire is far from being ubiquitous, and quite costly. The Garleans seem mostly concerned by handing out Magitek to their own, and usually as can be seen with the rest of their conscript forces for example, they let them use basic equipment since those 'races' have, after all, access to magic, unlike them. There are a lot of discrepancies in terms of technology shown by various corps and legions, and we don't even know how it is in their own society (I bet, again, full of Magitek for true garlics, and a lot less for conquered races, that are after all, mostly left to govern their own lands). That's not to say that the automated mines/harvesters is not possible (quite the contrary), but I think a case can also be made for 'slaves' or at least 'conscripted workers' in the garlean fold, working in mines. Especially as a form of punishment for insidious elements.

As much as we can of course speculate over the reasons that made them doing so, that sounds like very over the top and drastic measures just in the name of "honour", so I have to admit that it made me curious on what pushed Gridanians to do that. That's almost a genocide in itself.

From what I understood from those quotes, it's actually not to piss the elementals off. But... Between what the Hearers say, and what really is, who knows, right.

balmung Keeper Clan FC seeking contacts/antagonists/members
Valence replied to Zola/Sinjhi'ra's topic in Chronicled Connections
I... do have a character that is looking mostly for the exact opposite of Keeper traditions but... If you feel that you need antagonists or anything, feel free to poke. Also, I am glad to see that kind of very FC very much anchored into the lore. Good luck! -
Soulstones are repositories of their owner's skills an art as well as their... soul imprinting into them if you will.

By the very description of the Tam-Tara for example, it is clear enough that it's actually part of the Gelmorran ruins, here, specifically tailored for the rich and their burial site. Considering the sheer size of that specific part, I would assume that yes, Gelmorran subterranean tunnels are HUGE. It is confirmed by the various places described in your link, and I assume that considering that the entrance of all those places are literally scattered around the Shroud (Tam tara in central, Toto-Rak in South, Mun-Tuy between South and East, open archaeological ruins in the South...), I think it's fair to assume that since gelmorrans couldn't exactly exit them to go wander happily in the forest at the time, they were all interconnected. Now then, the only place we know of are mostly located around central/south Shroud, so it might be a hint that the Gelmorran civilization was mostly located here, but of that, we can't be totally sure and that's also the beauty of it: you don't exactly know to which depths and lenght those tunnels run... Especially since there are also the Gelmorran ruins in the North Shroud as well, unless those are just Amdapori remains. So... Yeah, I would say, they extend pretty much everywhere. You might find that video interesting as well, and the few speculative theories in it, although it's quite old.

If the UK pulls up article 50 (which is the logical thing to do now that Brexit is a thing), then outside of the EU, if negociations are made to stay in the EU global market (which was THE agreement that the UK relied on within the EU), and keep free travel and various other privileges, it could end up with a status akin to Norway, which is, having access to a good part of the EU agreements, like they currently do, but without a voice in those matters anymore since not part of the EU (like Norway). Which is kind of like a lose-lose situation.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Valence replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Tanks in raid that are not even bothering getting aggro on thrash mobs. Every time I get all the aggro as a WhM. Every, damn time. People in raid not willing to stay at healing range with the rest of their party, or party just exploding all around because why the hell not. -

It's a crossclass though. NIN/MNK/MCH get it at the very least... -
On the continent the general consensus of the main founders is leaning toward a hard stance. They are calling for a decision to be made soon, because they feel that the UK are playing the time and they fear that it's a way for them to ask for even more privileges and unique status than they already had. It is heavily felt that the UK are always trying not to play by the rules and basically have their cake and eat it. In clear, Italy, Germany and France are pushing for a quick decision so that all of this is not used as leverage against the EU for more privileges, while trying to get a good balance between two extrems: no agreements at all, start from scratch, and just granting the same privileges they had without all the obligations that go with staying inside.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Valence replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That's true. I didn't think about the Peon. Also, main issue with goad is the incredibly huge cooldown. I guess a BRD/MCH is priceless for true TP regen. -
I'm afraid you are venturing into unknown territory there. So far we have only seen Hyurs and Au'ri in the story coming from Othard. That doesn't prove anything though, but I would say, unless I missed something crucial, we just don't know. I would tend to say, if there is, probably a minority, but that's already speculating here. So, if you want to be lore compliant, just keep in mind that maybe someday we will know and it might bite you back in the ass. Or maybe the contrary. Something safer I could suggest is that we know that Limsa especially but not only, trades on a regular basis with Thavnair and Doma now. If there is no Keepers in there, then you can still play a Lominsan Keeper actually living around Doma in a trading post of sorts? I'm sure they have to accomodate for all those merchants. I think that could make an interesting exotic story. Also, on halfbreeds, keep in mind that those are very frowned upon all across Eorzea and absolutely everywhere. Something that I find a little sad is that I see actually a lot of RPers playing halfbreeds, and very few taking into account the immense prejudice they probably have to deal with on an everyday basis.

Valence replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
To be perfectly honest, as a heal, I absolutely abhor that pacify shit (you know the worst? People with macros that spamm it everytime... At best, just make a ping when pacify ACTUALLY HAPPENS, not when you start using berserk...). It's wasted time that could go to DPS and healing or whatever. Poison is to be expected from the mobs, but pacify is the reason I dislike healing warriors. The irony is when you notice it a bit late or just finish casting something else, then send an esuna, and the thing wears off just before esuna is cast. But I cleanse it alright. It's my job. It just feels like going after someone shitting a room and not cleaning after. Sorry for the rant. -
FFXIV's next expansion to be revealed during October Fanfest
Valence replied to Maril's topic in FFXIV News
Don't worry, the next jobs will obviously be based on the goofiest roles ever, like a mounted character fighting with a megaphone, a blitzball player and his ball, and a combat culinarian with a fork that can consume their enemies. On a more serious note, I always assumed that we might very well use Ala-Migho as a base city like Ishgard in 3.0, and then go all around, including garlic territories. Probably eventually meet the emperor and that kind of stuff... I would really love to see the garlic capital, but I'm not sure that would happen. Two big cities in one go? Not sure. -

Well I think that a mag interrupted There's some merit to the id interrupted It would certainly be diffe interrupted I don't think other MMOs have tri target dead interrupted I'm definitely eager to see what else they come up with, though. Oh comon, be a bit imaginative, why would that kind of mage need to be vulnerable to interruption...? A heavy mage with solid barriers and heavy armour. Wouldn't that be original for a change?
