  1. It wouldn't make sense for them to open the gates to every tom, dick, and harry right off the bat, then for you to go through the MSQ and them to repeatedly tell you that you're not allowed in during the lvl 30-40 questline in Coerthas, or any of the content involving the Templars from 2.4 and 2.5 where they basically say "we like you, but you're not allowed inside."
  2. I actually don't get the impression of AST being anything to do with RNG, instead it sounds more like they can stack effects the more cards they draw, so like you could draw one card and use it for a small heal, or you could draw two cards and use them for a bigger heal, or you could draw two cards and use them for a small heal and a buff. I don't think the cards you draw are randomly generated, I just think they have specific cards that serve a certain function and when combined have different effects (similar to Mudras) and it's up to you to decide if you wanna draw one card and go for a small heal, or hold out and draw more cards for a larger effect.
  3. Magitek comes from the Garlean Empire, but is not exclusive to it any longer, Cid has made Magitek a bit more widely used in Eorzea (the ironworks armor and weapons are magitek), and the Machinist looks like it might use Magitek to some degree as well.
  4. The only thing I want to point out as someone who plays a Magitek Engineer and has done a lot of research into the lore behind it in FFXIV and other games (for inspiration) is that outside of the Garlond Ironworks no one canonically makes Magitek in Eorzea, everything is either pilfered Garlean tech or stuff made by Cid for a specific purpose and person. With that in mind you'd definitely need a good explanation and backstory for how he managed to come into possession of something like a fully functional Magitek limb, obviously it's not something you could just find lying around since it would have to be modeled after your own arm as far as measurements go. The other thing to consider is that all Magitek runs on Ceruleum, which is a fairly expensive fuel source to come by (being that it is refined crystals), so you'll have to struggle with your arm always needing a power source that can and should deplete at times. This can be troublesome, but also opens up the door for some interesting RP as well. I guess the biggest point I want to get across is that it's possible, but it'd still be a rather large undertaking to have done and should involve significant story explaining how you got it.
  5. If it's an RP FC. I obviously enjoy RP (otherwise why would I be here?) but to me RP is meant for Linkshells, not Free Companies and (this is a bit of a blanket statement, I know it doesn't apply to everyone) I've found that RP FCs tend to be high on the drama, low on the progression so it just never works out for me. I like to raid, I like to progress when I raid, I feel RP FCs don't dedicate enough time to this kind of thing, or endgame in general, so I prefer to RP with walkups or in LSs. So in short, if it's an RP FC it's a no go for me.
  6. As far as stocks and shit are concerned, the fiscal quarter for spring ends June 30th.
  7. Needs aviator sunglasses, then it'll be perfect. Look what is clipped to his vest.
  8. Congrats on the new jobs, glad things are working out for you!
  9. Well, I hope we're not stepping on any toes Not at all, this is a lot more organized and well thought out than what we did. Ours was just a group of friends dressed in dark blue suits and sunglasses walking around talking about being classy and fashionable and snapping our fingers in unison whenever someone zinged someone. It was mostly just meant to be funny, have misadventures, and take screenshots of them.
  10. Perhaps somehow involved? He got banished (the straw anyway) because he didn't do squat to help Nanamo that night as Dalamud fell in helping the people of Ul'dah. Cocobros of the guild did. Just a quick note on this, if you do the Delivery Moogle quests you actually learn that Mumuepo wasn't banished but thrown in prison for embezzlement and forced to fight in Halatali (he's the last boss for those who didn't notice). He basically went insane and almost bankrupt the Guild spending crazy amounts of money on things like gilded tomes. Also my FC leader made that timeline, cool to see it's still in use and relevant.
  11. lol me and some friends a while back when 2.4 first came out had a similar idea to this and started a LS called Turks of Balmung.
  12. Yugiri being a key character they'll never make her outfit available to the player in the same way that almost every key character has a unique outfit/appearance. I also feel like her hood thing is more of a Ninja thing and less of an Au Ra thing. That still supports the lore issue for players starting the game as Au Ras though, don't you agree? I don't think all Au Ras (nor all Eorzeans) will immediately be comfortable with how they look, so ways to conceal their features would be a nice addition to justify the fact that you CAN start the game as an Au Ra. Plus, I didn't really specify it has to be exactly like Yugiri's. something that matched their starting outfits would be best imo, so in the white/black tones. The shape could be different too for that matter, but I still think they deserve something to hide their faces/horns. I think this assumes that they even explain you being able to play a new character as an Au Ra, which I kinda have my doubts that they will. I know Fern stated that the entire Ul'dah starting story was done in via the Echo in 1.0 (which is why we meet Minfilia as a little girl and an adult). I feel they are just going to have all Au Ra experience past events via the Echo, or just say it's the Echo until they are caught up to 3.0. With that in mind, if that is the case there is no reason for them to hide their appearance because they'd be following Yugiri into Eorzea more than likely and she's going to be unmasked this month. I will say that I'm not opposed to a similar hood/mask type thing getting added, I just don't feel it needs to be Au Ra racial gear.

  14. This is off topic but I hate seeing old 1.0 cutscenes because it always makes me sad how good they were compared to what we have now. The animations and effects they had were top notch.
  15. The Garlean forces never really make it out of the Sylphlands due in part because of the player character. We know they at least got far enough to setup Castrum Oriens, but other than a single quest that has you go out and kill a few spies this place is never mentioned and it's completely inaccessible. They do still have a fairly strong presence in the Sylphlands however, with a small area filled with nothing but Ochu and Garlean troops, and at least 2-3 fates in the area involving them. With Gyr Abania right on the other side of the East Shroud, I don't think they will be letting up anytime soon since they can pretty much send endless amounts of troops from Ala Mhigo through there.
  16. Are you really surprised considering XIV's country of origin and aesthetic appeal? There are actually very few moments in XIV that have an aesthetic that strikes me as being very anime-like, most of the game plays out more like a political drama (which tends to be more western) with brief moments of generic action that could easily be from a western or eastern inspiration. The only scene that comes to mind as being very anime-like was when you defeat Lahabrea and all your friends appear behind you at the last moment to give you their strength. I don't think you can get more anime than that scene without actually being an anime. What you're talking about isn't "anime-like" it's camp. Camp can be found in anything and is not a trait inherent to anime. There are plenty of serious, politically charged anime out there that have zero camp in them whatsoever, they're just on the edge in the current zeitgeist of anime production. And you're wrong about XIV not being anime in aesthetic, it's extremely anime in aesthetic. The style is a unique one thanks to the greatness that is Akihiko Yoshida, but it's still very anime. I've never heard the term "camp" before so I guess I'll have to take your word on it and assume it means something, not actually sure what you're referring to as being "camp" though. AS far as the aesthetics of the game, we'll just have to agree to disagree because I definitely don't get an anime vibe from most of the game with a few exceptions.

  18. Yes, but as the toughest server to get on it's not somewhere you go on a whim. Because the 80% of non-RPers have other friends they'd like to play with too. Pretty much this. There may be a lot of us on Balmung, but RPers do not make up the majority of the playerbase on Balmung. You have to keep in mind that Balmung was the combination of two servers originally, Fabul and Besaid, and only one of those servers was an RP server originally, many of the people who came over from Fabul are still around, and most of the large FCs on the server are all progression guilds with little or no interest in RP.
  19. My companion chocobo is named Arkam, my race chocobo is named Ebony Bonheur.
  20. debates can become a really big problem when people all swarm in and join the debate partway through, leaving a convoluted, bickering mess. i witnessed this once. it was horrible, they were just mass debating all over the place. That sounds like a sticky situation to get caught in the middle of. Talk about getting stuck between a rock and a hard place.
  21. My personal opinion on the matter is that there is nothing wrong with people having a debate, even a heated one, in a public area such as a FC or a LS so long as the rules of said medium to not forbid it. The primary difference between a debate and an argument is that debates are a battle of the mind, while arguments are a battle of the heart. If you can keep a level head and not get overly offended then all good! For those who are easily prone to becoming butthurt, all I can say is you probably shouldn't be on the internet if a simple debate rustles your jimmies this much.
  22. Except Yoshida was quoted as stating it would be male only, then there was a massive uproar, and now it's not. It's not really anything to do with it being a longcoat that I say it should have been male only, but that the character who wore it originally was male. Since they opted to make Snow's outfit male only, it would have made sense that they would have done something similar with Setzer's outfit.
  23. I was honestly disappointed they caved and made the Setzer gear multigender. No offense to all the people who play females (or are females) but other then racial gear and the Bohemian Outfit there are no Male exclusive outfits in the game, while there are plenty of female exclusive outfits.
