I'll keep mine fairly short and simple: Being an only child and creating your own imaginary games with yourself, thus generating many personalities for the characters you are acting out in your toys. Then we just continued onward. So longer story - As a little girl, I would take the My Little Petshop figures, they each had names-- and the store owner, this barbie doll, would always get kidnapped by the Evil Dino King (which was one of those T-Rex toy figures), and they'd have to go save her. My mom was convinced when I was a kid, that I had friends over that she peek in and just see me-- and I was creating all those voices. Yeah, this would be the first signs of roleplay. In Elementary, I was the kid on the Playground everyone went to, to come up with ideas and typically-- I would base my ideas off of like Movies or video games (aka Star Fox or Sonic) and everyone had a role they would play as that character or you know, enemy. We continue forward a bit more... When I was probably around 10, we moved from Texas to Arizona. I had no friends, knew no one, and was home-schooled. Once again, Only Child with no one but myself. However, my new tool of interaction was the internet. I discovered a thing called Chatboards (which were our chatrooms before the days where they would automatically refresh themselves, so you had to click a refresh button to get updates). The place I went to was an s8 chatboard that was around Transformer and I created my first Original Character for Transformers named Neva. She was a 1995 I believe, Pontiac TransAm. Hunter Green. I also roleplayed Optimus Prime himself, cause I always admired him growing up. This lead me also to a Gargoyles Chatboard, cause Gargoyles was in like the end of season 1 or 2, somewhere in there I think? Might have been on re-runs? Hard to remember exactly, but anyway, I created my first Gargoyle character named Celine, who was a Raptor-goyle. The Gargoyles place was also my first introduction into more serious roleplay... and also my first introduction into why it is so important to separate self from a character. I hurt a really good person, because I got to close. A gal who played a male Raptor-goyle, my little young heart didn't understand this concept... I learned this concept, but accidentally destroyed our friendship. This eventually lead me to trying to understand why a girl would rp a guy.... and I quickly came to understand why. It was a challenge. It was fun. I am now one of those women who did what they did, but I also tread careful. Cause like her-- jump ahead to now a MUD called Aetolia... I didn't check to make sure someone understood the 4th wall, I assumed, like they did with me, that this person who was falling in love with my character... wasn't keeping themselves separate. They got hurt, like I got hurt so long ago, but instead of it being a 10 year old, this was someone in their teens and they took it far worse than I did when I learned. However, it never stopped me, I kept on rping, and I'll admit. I'm addicted to roleplaying! I love it. I love drawing my characters and creating more and more personalities, trying to push the limits of what I can play and solving where my limits are of what I /can/ play well. It never gets old, though I have learned with a busier life I now have however, that I have to reframe from alt-crazy behavior in both 14 (cause I've been at this since 2010, so I burnout easy), but also on a MUSH I play on. Roleplay is fun, its enjoyable, it can be addictive, but like all things. One has to be careful when they been at it for a long time, to not burn themselves out.

So, you remember those Voice Actors from 1.0 to 2.0
Koti Nexus replied to Koti Nexus's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Nah, the wording in the first post is a little misleading. They're talking about the 2.0 (and 1.0?) voice actors getting replaced in 3.0 and on. SE has not gone back and redubbed all the 2.0 cutscenes with the new VAs. I actually need to make an edit, which I'll do here shortly, but it looks like Thancred and Raub's voice were redone, thus the Ul'dah cast from what I can tell from playing on the Ul'dah Story line as Merl's VA and the gal from Grid (I can never remember her name) were the same during the Calamity CS. -
I have no one really to discuss this with, because many friends I had back in 1.0 I either lost contact with or we gone our separate ways, but I do know some still linger here and I found out a few days ago, while playing the MSQ again with a new character.... That the old Voice Actors are gone. They replaced all of the 2.0 MSQ voice overs with the new guys from 3.0... and its actually causing me to be teary-eyed. I am not sure if I am the only one who shares the experience from 1.0, or even some of your from 2.0-- but-- I am really saddened by this. And maybe a part of me kinda feels kicked off to the side, if that sounds weird. Kind of curious if anyone else shares the same feelings to those that may also be aware. EDIT: So far, I stand a touch corrected after getting to the Calamity CS in the Ul'dah intro. Its seem so far, only the Ul'dah VOs were changed out, not the other nations. Though it does make me wonder if you start in another nation if they also have new VOs, but doubtful as of yet based on the Calamity CS. Which I admit is alright, given Raub's voice was always a bit to harsh and I do like his new VA, but... still will miss the growly voice of the old.

Given I did a ton of research on Garlean lore and behaviors (The curse of researching a society oocly since 1.0), I don't see a reason a Roe couldn't be used, long as, like many already have said, it remains in the proper pallet. Also regarding Nael, back in 1.0, they had male Elezen movement sets, including the emotes. There is (or was) a video out there on Youtube showing this. And yes, the 3rd eye is a unique thing where even Yoshi P explained in an article of it being a sensory organ (which someone else also explained) and its my belief, based on some information and also how Gaius spoke in 1.0, that they might be aetheric sensitive with it as well. No factual case for it yet, its a theory based on some spoken words and behavior. That and typically when a race or species is weak to something, they tend to have a natural sixth scent to protect them from that very thing. However, back on topic. Use a roe if you like. A female elezen however would probably get you closer to a canon female Garlean body type though with, like someone else said, a very, very short ear option. In the end, we don't have any actual model. We don't have the race (yet??) and we just have to use our imaginations when someone says, "This characer is a pureblood Garlean." to fill in those blanks and make the mental adjustments.

Hello there, sorry for the delay on this. I have left 14 due to just long years and just growing tired, that said though, Mateus has grown fantastically thanks to everyone's efforts and I have left the continued growth to everyone who still resides there. For now, please feel free to join the Mateus RP HUB, as it is a sister group to the RPM and has some wonderful people there: https://discord.gg/HPbYNFU Best of luck on Mateus!

To folks who are looking to join or have sent me PMs, I am on vacation right now due to the July 4th Holiday, so forgive my silence on the matter. I also need to recharge my 14 batteries before I hit the critical state of burn out. People keep an eye out for those listed who have linkshell holding and also join the Mateus HUB, which is a large community of Mateus RPers. You can find their listeing, I believe, within the Player directory. Thanks all.

Hey there! Welcome to the Hydaelyn forums and to Mateus! I am one of the people in command of the RPM and there is also another fairly large community we shake hands with called the Mateus RP Hub: https://discord.gg/HPbYNFU I would suggest you go join their Discord server as they have a wide listing of FCs, LSes, and people. Best of luck!

other servers Goblin RPing at its finest
Koti Nexus replied to Viera Valkyrie's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'm just gonna give this a friendly little bump~ -
While I am on Mateus, I do know-- if your looking at NA severs-- That someone is working on building up an RP community on Goblin as well. So there are some choices out there, just have to be willing to look around, test them out, and see which is your flavor.
-
Hey folks! If you been looking to get in but have not had the chance too, please PM me here on Hydaelyn so we can try to work out a time in order to get you folks in. Thank you~
-
*goes to prod the leader of the FC to see if he even has a Hydaelyn account and will sit on him if he doesn't with her 3 characters*

You may want to look into Midnight's Envoy. They don't have a listing here (sadly), but they help smuggling people out of Othard and also act as a sanctuary to folks who need shelter. You can find their house in-- I believe-- Ward 11? Maybe Ward 9?? In the Goblet under <>. I have a few characters in there and one of them is a Raen "Priestess". So, she may be able to help yours get a grasp on the Eorzean language. ^^

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Koti Nexus replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That's my usual approach to it. Not only is it usually the vocal minority making a fuss, it's easily ignored or blocked by turning off /shout chat. Beyond that, there's also a very low likelihood I'll even end up bumping into or RPing with these people anyway... and even if I do it's not like I'm going to openly announce "OHEY MY MAIN'S ON BALMUNG" or "I GOTTA ALT ON MATEUS." That sort of stuff will likely only come up if we hit it off and want to schedule another meeting for RP. ... And if finding out the fact that I have characters on one, the other, or both is enough to set them off, then I might not really want that next RP interaction anyway. Exactly~. -
Hey there, sorry for the delay!! We just opened up a 3rd Linkshell and still have room. I am still trying to keep an eye out for folks, but till then, please feel free to join the other large community Mateus RP HUB on Discord, as we are sorta sister groups. https://discord.gg/HPbYNFU
-
There are a few listed in the Linkshells > Mateus area, including the one I run RPM (and we have our own Discord), which we just had to make our third linkshell for it. @__@ There is also the Discord Mateus RP Hub, which I have linked and I think can be found over in the Player Directory. Mateus is growing pretty well! Even though we do have the occasional "haters" in shout and on the novice network-- but hey, Haters gonna hate.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Koti Nexus replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
In the words of an old song: "Why can't we be friends~". Sadly, I have concluded somewhere that human nature seem to be always at odds with itself and thus is naturally drawn to conflict. Even when we try to avoid it, we sometimes, somehow, find ourselves in it. In this, the differences of opinion and beliefs is what causes these conflicts and thus-- getting people to get along, takes a community effort. Mostly of like minded individuals, such as us roleplayers-- and even then, we slam heads sometimes on points of views! Really, I suppose, it comes down to how one handles the opposition in the end. Do you strike back-- or do you turn the other cheek. I tend to chose the other cheek method, mostly because people on the internet believe they don't have to hold to any moral or ethical ground, thus-- are jerks. Outside of us few who believe in keeping to our moral and ethics. And now I leave you all with cupcakes cause good lord, that got philosophical. -
I know that my character Auryn Khadus is trying to rebuild his tribe, given he is the last son of the Khadus and child of the wilds. He has already taken one individual under his wing, which is an Ejinn that has no one really, and been teaching her to hunt. Along with the lost ways of his people. He does, yes, sorta adopt people in and train them. He even take a Miqo'te really! It is something he is doing on the side while he works for the Midnight's Envoy, if you maybe be interested in this??? Let me know!

NA Adventurers! Looking for RP? New to RP? Welcome to Mateus!
Koti Nexus replied to M'naase Rahz's topic in RP Discussion
I think the necessity of having to ask in the first place is a sign that it's very difficult to tell, and as such the line between "kidding around" and "deadly serious" is not particularly clear in this case. The curse of text is 90% of context is always lost and thus the context of feelings always has a high chance of misconception to actual meaning. -
Looking for Imperial/Garlean RP FC (Or strong LS)
Koti Nexus replied to Biast's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hey there, I'm gonna toss you a PM, but I have a group on Mateus (which would be a free transfer for you atm) that you may be interested in. But we love to have you, as we need more tech heads. However, most of us do have some alts, so we may not always be available, but again-- I can get into more detail via PM. -
While I may have a few stones throw in my direction-- or maybe kick on some lightbulbs... But for those that got to the ending...

I just wanted to say as someone who started the whole initiative on Mateus... YOU GO GET IT DONE! \o/ I wish you guys all the best of luck and don't ever give up either. Be loud about it, make some videos showing off some of the rp scene there, and don't ever-- ever-- get discouraged. No matter how bad it gets or how much people may nay-say, just stick to your guns. Stick to your guns and show how enthused you are to help the rp community. Eventually, like with Mateus, it will grow, it will grow and become something wonderful (and if you are like me, you may end up crying about it because of the realization that all the hard work, near ulcers, and roughing up that mountain paid off). I am glad to see another stepping up for another server to become a place for roleplayers to gather and hope to hear about the growing community there as well in the future!  -
I have no clue, but once I can get to freakin' 50 on my brd, I plan to unlock mch, so I'll let you know if it still counts or not. Also have to love how it stacks with the novice xp ring and ala mhigan earrings-- along side FC bonus xp. The xp! The xp runs like gooooold!!

Hey there! sorry for delay on getting back with you! We had to make a 3rd linkshell, so things got a little hectic. I'll try to keep an eye out for your name. Just let me know what times you are around (eastern or pacific) and I'll see if I can catch you online!
-
This is the only thing I can find aimed in our direction (and I also pay 90 days for mine, so I'm just as curious): If you have remaining subscription time that was purchased before the campaign period, or you have an active recurring subscription, we will calculate any remaining game time available as of Saturday, July 1, towards the campaign. ---- I might toss them a ticket (or if someone beats me to it) and see what they have to say about those of us who already do 90 day plans.

discussion What it Means to be a Half Breed
Koti Nexus replied to SapphireSkylines's topic in Lore Discussion
I have a half Elezen and half Pureblood character. A friend of mine has a half Elezen and half Au Ra-- There there is a Moon/Sun mix. But like the other guy pointed out, Ishgard I believe has a few-- and a dude in the Scions is half Ala Mhigan and half Pureblood. Mixtures happen, its lore, and how they are treated is probably based on not only the society, but also the individual.
