Blood on the Sands Episodic rp event (Rules for Event 2 in first post)

Recommended Posts

Naih'ir is researching a cure to the water, if anyone else is on that subject of the plot, could you please send me a message here or in game?

I know Tiergan was working on it and there were some others.  I'd be happy to give you any information regarding it if you have any questions.

Kage knows that Natalie threw samples at certain now-not-set-to-die-collared peoples?

... that just sounded horribly wrong.

Morning everyone.

I'm just posting this to let everyone know that last night we had a mini-event and got the tool that disarms the explosive in the collars. Now removing the collar is a bit more tricky but we can do that too if anyone with a collar wishes it. I just want to say thank you for everyone who attended last night since it was honestly, mostly, improvised.

I'll be posting information about part two after work once I am done tweaking a few things based on feedback I have received. :D

Great to hear! I'll look forwards to the update.

Oh forgot to mention earlier. OoC update, several rpers are working diligently on the posion. It is possible cure for posion in water will come by event number two. Just letting people know. Making sure I keep as many people updated as things happen to avoid any confussion.

Okay.  Brainstorm on event number 2 time. WOOT.

I have been reading threads and posts involving this event very intently and have been doing a lot of thinking on how to make it work in a way that shows I am trying to respect the feedback people have brought up to my attention.  There have been changes to accommodate, but overall, I think this may turn out better.

Event 2 "Whom Fiddled while Ul'dah Burned?"

Note:  No Ul'dah is not going to be on fire.  Title is cool though.

For this event, the more NPC's we have, the better, as the number of heroes has grown.  Actually the number of NPCs determines if prong three of this event can occur or not.  More on that below.

Prong 1: ((Get back in yer hole, partners!))

A certain Black Mage will be leading a host of voidspawn(think zombies)(the NPCs)created from the remains of the poison victims against the city of Ul'dah.  We will be keeping this prong outside of Ul'dah by the Gate of Thal.  This will be the majority of the event and will be akin to the attack during event number one.  However, there is a catch to this event.  Every time an npc player is defeated, they come back, representing a different voidsend.  The only way to stop the voidsend is to find the Black Mage, whom will be lurking nearby and defeat him and his guards.  Once he is defeated, the void sends collapse.

The idea is that the heroes are working against the clock.  Heroes will probably have 4 hp, the Black Mage may have a higher pool based on how many players are present, and the voidspawn npcs will have 2.

Hero side will be led by Kahn'a again.

Also thought would be kinda fun if everyone kept count of how many voidspawn they killed and the one with the most gets a 1,000 gil from me...I'm poor okay?! lol

Prong 2: ((It's not easy...committing regicide))

A small group of assassins are going to move through the city and try to make an attempt on the Sultana's life.  Please note, they will not get to the room where the sultana is. There will be no Sultana npc.   They are simply going to try to reach the room.  They will be stopped by a small group of heroes.  Heroes will be led by Erik Mynhier, baddies by Osric.  Erik will be picking those he wishes to aid him in this.

Prong 3:  ((There's a kitty, fiddling, on the roof! ))

So long as there are enough npcs for prong one, I will be rping Jin'li playing a fiddle as he walks around Ul'dah. He will be able to be stopped by anyone who sees him and recognizes his appearance.  I'm sure a fight would be inevitable.... lol.

Please note, if prong 3 does happen, it is possible to win prong 1 by dealing enough damage to Jin'li that he has to summon the Black Mage to him to teleport him away.

However, if there are not enough NPC's for prong 1, I will be attending as a voidspawn NPC on Askier to help balance the sides and Jin'li will need to be dealt with at a different time.  I'm think a small group of three to five pc's looking for Jin'li would be acceptable because once he is found, I can only rp fight so many on my own.  lol.  If anyone is interested in organizing a search for Jin'li and selecting up to 4 others to do so, please send me a pm.

That is the outline I have for the moment.  I will be making tweaks to the combat rules ever so sightly based on feedback from event 1. and probably give the heroes 4 hp each and the npcs 2 hp since they can keep "re spawning"

Please post your thoughts below and I'll have the official rules posted tomorrow.

I like this plot idea.

At least at the current time, Franz/Unnamed Mercenary has probably traded sides (at least morally), but this wouldn't be public information to anyone but Kage and Natalie. (Kinda hard to keep a secret when you live with them ICly)

As such, he'd probably either be following Kage around, unless a certain hyuran woman has "other" plans for him, that he cannot disobey.

...I'll also see if I can convince the friend that wanted to observe to possibly NPC a voidspawn (if she's awake at that time). She may have fun.

Edit/Addition: I think Kage's been looking for Jin'li/having Brass Blades under his control look for Jin'li

Correction: Kage's not actively looking for him. I'm under the assumption that after Kage spoke with Erik, Erik sent to him the sketch of Jin'li. Kage has also gotten a sketch of Jin'li from someone else. As such Kage has spread the sketch around the Brass Blades ranks. They're not actively searching but they are on the lookout and have a high awarenesss level for him.

If you have to many heroes at this point, I can always grab one of my bajillion alts (I-I don't have altitis! I can quit at any time!) and be a bad guy for a while.

Concerns:

1. I had to escort a survey team last week, resulting in a grueling night shift that kept me away from roughly 6pm PST 'til 8am PST the next morning. This upcoming week, starting Thursday and possibly working over the weekend, I may have to work extra and/or night shifts again. tl;dr: I might not be available at the scheduled 8:30pm Central for this event. I will be finding out tomorrow what my schedule looks like for Saturday.

2. How / in what way are the heroes in Prong 1 going to (be able to) break away from fighting voidsent to locate and track down a Black Mage? Are they going to wait 'til one party clears away their voidsent, then send that party off to investigate?

3. Given that the Brass Blades are on alert, you might want to plot a route that keeps as clear of them as possible, Askier. Same will have to go for Flames/Sultansworn if that sketch/information gets passed along to them as well. And wear a hood or something. :P

4. @ExKage:

You and I should probably get together as Kage and Haruko to exchange information at some point before Saturday, as the former has info on Epinoch and the latter has info on Melkire.

EDIT:

5. Does anyone find any fault with / reason to object to a swarm of voidsent outside the Gate of Thal? The last time around. we discussed poisoning NPCs in a brainstorming thread, and people still got upset over that. I'd like to check with everyone and see how people feel about something on this scale. Likewise for an assassination attempt on the Sultana.

I'm all for it, and had no problem with the previous event either. Although I was away that weekend anyway.

I see no problem with that, provided the zombies aren't making it within the gates. To be on the safe side, we probably don't want too much stuff happening on the inside of the city simply to avoid "the vocal crowds" that would say it could affect world-RP. If we've got a decent amount of heroes though, that looks like a non-issue.

As for an assassination attempt the the sultana, Askier's said it's meant to fail, and that there won't be a sultana NPC in the scene. I see no issues there, as I'm sure there have been attempts on her life before that players wouldn't have seen/heard about. I don't think another attempt on her life is going to be something that will cause any issues.

I guess we'll see how the RP has this one go out. Will there be any character meet-up times/PMs? Sadly, Merc doesn't know most of the community, including the other villains. I need to make him get out more.

I agree with what the others said, I don't see anything wrong as long as we keep the NPC's outside the city. As for the Sultana, same deal. She won't be seen/interacted with so there's no harm.

I guess that's up to the heroes. Someone told both Kage and Erik about the Black Mage and the voidsent army by use of the dead. As I'm not taking any type of lead role, I'm assuming Erik would have told the Red Wings and those within would do it.

Yeaaaaah you can assume that any Brass Blade will know what Jin'li looks like and is on high alert. They don't care too much all of them... some of them had to be reminded that he's the reason why they're paying more for their rum.

Lemme know whenever. Not sure how much I can be of help because OOCly I actually don't know much of the information because it's usually said "i'll get it to you" so it's assumed he does.

Small thought on account of liking the "infinite enemies, limited heroes" angle.

What if you did zombies with 1hp? They'd immediately respawn anyway, so the field won't actually ever get culled, and it'd let the heroes hero pretty hard. The only way it'd end poorly is it the heroes grotesquely outnumbered the enemies. If it's about equal, then the villains could just pair off onto someone and swing twice, so at least one attack would go through.

I acknowledge this would be a LOT of dice rolls. I just like the idea of there being writhing masses of limbs and arms that, when chopped to bits, reincorporate into something else horrific. Let's go full Silent Hill here.

So idea for fight.  Everyone gets zombies, which have one hp.  Once a player has killed 3 zombies they can then, either, keep fighting zombies or move to fight Laforet.  Thoughts on this?

[[This note is in character, and sent to the flames head office]]

2.38am, 18th of the Fourth Astral Moon

The Morbol Venom (Cure one, test one - cure confirmed. )

A breakthrough, finally. The main focus of my research finally finding a base in the obtained toxin. Morbol Toxin, extracted prematurely it would seem due to its extraction colour and smell. The morbol in question if I had to guess would of been relatively polluted before the toxin was extracted and modified.

Due to the residue of aether in this concoction the measure of relying on less-magical plants would need to be limited. I refer to the huntresses to gather the required amount of gobbue saliva to counteract the corrosive toxin state of the solution.

However if these samples supplied are indeed the same that were used in the contamination of Ul'dah's supply the counter is tricky to combine but easy to gather materials for.

Firstly to deal with the measure of combustion - a neutralizer is needed to make sure the base component can be broken down without the water evaporating completely. For this I have chosen Chocobo tears - also known as essence of ChocoCure. Only a few drops are needed and can be gathered from well groomed chocobo. The tears themselves should be a slight green in murk, and radiate a white-blue glow when dripped. Three drops per gallon of water should suffice.

Secondly: to counteract the toxicity of the water gobbue roots or saliva is required. This is a rather expensive and rare material to gather - however it is fundamental in neutralizing the Morbol toxin - while the mutagen in the extract will remain the base of the toxin should be steadied back out over the next three days with appliance of this material (each, 2 or 4 hours) to normal levels until the poison itself has completely broken down.

300 milliliters per gallon required. (2 roots per litre if using roots)

Thirdly, and finally

The poison after two days should dissolve but the taste may remain in the water. I suggest fixing this with cherry or Lemon. Whatever flavor will counter the bitterness.

[[Edit: I wrote about 1000 words on this in characterly. But turns out anyone could find the cure.. OTL ]]

Tomorrow is the big day.

First off, awesome post Naih'ir! Loved reading that and fun to see how the research side of things has been going.

For event tomorrow:

I am honestly unsure of the exact head count of both sides at this time honestly considering how many people have joined in over the past week.  I would say more npcs would be appreciated if you know anyone whom is interested in joining at this point.

When: Tomorrow, we will begin gathering outside the Gate of Thal at 8:30 Central time. We are giving ourselves about 45 minutes to organize everything and the sides.  We aim to actually start around 9:15.

Where: Heroes will meet Kahn'a directly outside the Gate of Thal and form groups of three.  The NPCS, will meet Laforet and myself at the Tree of the Sultana.

What to wear:  Heroes may dress however they please.  Or not at all if that's your thing, we aren't picky. lol. NPC's we ask that you wear either the Shepard's tunic, or something white and cloth-ish for a chest piece to help you stand out.

Objecive: The goal of each hero is to slay at least three npcs zombies and then move down the road to the Sultana tree and fight Laforet, the black mage in control of this npc army.  One he is defeated, the heroes win.  Note, if a hero would like to just keep pummeling zombies, we will have a 1,000 gil prize for the best zombie killer, cause, why not?

How will this work:  Once the groups are gathered, the NPCS will move up and start matching with the hero parties of three.  Our aim is to have at least 1 NPC per group of three heroes.  Combat will use normal combat rules with these exceptions:

NPC's have 1 hp, but when they are hit, they keep going, representing a slain zombie and another replacing them.  Heroes need to keep track of how many npc'c they 'kill' because once a player has killed three, they may leave their current party and move to fight Laforet by the Tree of the Sultana, or keep pummeling zombies.

Heroes will have 4 hp this event to help them weather the assault of never ending zombies.  Laforet will only have 3 hp because most heroes will be slightly wounded by the time they reach him.

What about Jin'li: At this time, whether or not I am able to rp Jin'li elsewhere fighting is dependent upon the number of NPC's I have.  My main priority is that there is at least one npc per group of heroes.  So long as this is achieved, I can rp.  If not, I will happily be an npc for this event.  I will not know about the exact numbers till tomorrow but will update those whom are planning on hunting him down after this post.

What happens after this event: Well, due to rp reasons, after this event, all that will remain will be to kill Jin'li.  Jin'li has lost almost all his allies, and has no real power of authority anymore.  Likely this will be a small event but will have to wait and update ths information further after tomorrow's event.

What about Erk and the sultana attack rp: I have already reached out to Erik and am working this out.  This side event will, in no affect the main event at the Gate of Thal, and is primarily there to help conclude story arcs forseveral pc characters.  Remember, there will be NO Sultana npc what so ever.

Closing:  I am looking forward to tomorrow and hope to see everyone there.  NPCs are still in need so if anyone you know want's in, please have them read the combat rules and this above post and we should be good to go.  There will likely not be a 3rd part to this event due to rp developments but, that's how rp works.

Everyone on this forumn, and by extension, the server are awesome and I hope that those whom offered feedback of any type can see a conscious effort on my part to actively incorporate feedback into my event.  If anyone has any thoughts on this, please comment below.  :D

Also, this wall was typed on a phone while at work...cause I love you people enough to make my thumbs suffer. lol

I know Warren was coming, but who else will lend their shields to me. Sultasworn can be named or if you just want to join in as an NPC paladin (and have access to the regalia ie AF1) let me know either here or in game. Since it will be around 8, all interested should meet me at the airship bar at around 7:45 central.
