  1. Katarina & Moire: Miqo'te twins raised by gypsies Luludja: actual gypsy girl raised with the twins Everyone they loved is dead. (yes, I know 'gypsy' is considered a derogatory term. but the title of the thread did say to describe in the worst way possible)
  2. I've read this entire thread, I have to say that I am so sorry you had to go through this. I'm not going to judge either of you - there are two sides to every story and here we have only one - but I can make some reasonable speculation and advice from experience. Relationships in a game are very much like relationships in real life. For them to work there requires communication. At some point there was a communication breakdown. From what you've posted above, it seems like you tried to keep communication open. I can not say with certainty why she started playing elsewhere and not telling you what was going on. Very likely she knew there was a good chance you'd be upset. It is unfortunately common that people try to avoid communication when it actually is most needed, and in the end this leads to feelings be hurt even worse. Unfortunately, a situation like this can cause a rift. You say she is still sending you pictures and telling you stories. It's very possible she still wants to be your friend and is trying to share, but it hasn't sunk in yet that what you need is some time to cool off, and she isn't sure what else do do. I'm guessing she doesn't want to cut you out of her life, and going completely silent can feel like being cut out. Humans are emotional creatures, and emotions can be messy. Every person is unique and react to situations in their own way. This doesn't necessarily make any of us bad, but it can lead to conflict. I do hope you and she can patch things up and be friends again. It may take time, and patience. You may even need some time away from each other. And just maybe, someday, the two of you can look back on this and go 'wow, we really got carried away there.' Till then... it sounds like you are wiling to give RP another chance. Being willing to so soon after a bad experience like that says a lot, I've known many who quit a game entirely after something like that. I hope you find people you enjoy RPing with.
  3. Really? That's sad to hear. There's plenty fun things to do in game that doesn't require ruining other people's fun. Hopefully the insanity dies down soon.
  4. Clearly they realized that I wasn't going to move off Mateus and there wasn't any point in keeping Bal open.

  6. I took the survey. It's an interesting question and I'm curious to see the results.
  7. I think Maril pretty much nailed it. Healing magic is not an instant fix-all. It acts more like stitches - closes the wound so bleeding stops and gives a boost to natural healing, but it still takes time and energy from the healer. And, like with stitches, too much strain can re-open the wound. As for herbals and medicinals, there are many resources for such in real life. I recommend reading up on some to get a good feel for how they work. Then think about how you could apply some Eorzean flavor to it - whether in the form of ingredients, or techniques, or both. In real life there is something called dragon's blood, in Eorzea it my require actual dragon's blood.
  8. I can think of no better voice for my bard, than the actual bard Heather Alexander.
  9. Maybe it's just the way you phrased it, but it seems to me you're putting two separate things together into one question. 1- you're looking for people who RP in a similar fashion 2- you're looking for people to do adventures together IC As for 1, there is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to RP. You enjoy projecting yourself into the game as if you were really there. That is fine. People above have already stated that your style is uncommon and runs a risk of taking things that happen in game a bit seriously outside of the game. But as long as you can maintain perspective in the difference between the two, then I see no problems. There was a time when hard-core, always IC was more common (even if players didn't see themselves as the character), it's pretty rare today. As for 2, there are lots of people who love to do adventures IC. I'm one of them. It adds a layer of fun to an otherwise rote dungeon run or whatever. Ask around, you're bound to find people. The biggest challenge should be in scheduling when people get together. Hopefully you find people you enjoy both RPing and adventuring with.
  10. I can only echo what people have been saying. The situation you're in sucks, there's no denying that. It's clear that you don't want to hurt someone's feelings. But what matters here is YOUR feelings. You're being made uncomfortable, you don't like what is going on. And it will only continue as long as you don't say anything. Yes, there is a risk that P could become upset if you bring it up. But it's a risk you have to take. Remember, YOU ARE NOT IN THE WRONG here. P probably doesn't realize what he's doing. If P really is a nice guy he should be upset at himself once he realizes what has been going on. There is a chance that P will be apologetic and learn from this, which in the end would make P a better person. If P instead gets upset and tries to shift the blame to you, then P never was a good friend to being with and you are better off without him in your life. I'm talking from experience here, as the person who made someone else uncomfortable. I was thankful that it was brought up. I was embarrassed and I learned from it. Were things awkward between us after? Of course. Were things ever the same again? No, they were not. But in time we became friends again, better friends. I hope you have a similar experience.
  11. As long as you don't make your character overpowered, I don't see any problem there. The classes are mainly a game mechanic. Many NPCs can do things beyond what we players can do. Realistically, there's nothing preventing anyone from picking up a club and learning to use it. Or a chain, or rapier, or whatever. Plus, in a way, our characters CAN learn to do just about anything, it's just game mechanics that force us to utilize only one set of skills and abilities at a time.
  12. To add to what has already been said... RP is essentially a big game of 'let's pretend.' We all did it as children. We're bigger now, and our toys are more sophisticated, and with the internet we can play with more people, but it still comes down to 'let's pretend'. In this particular case, we're pretending to be people living in and around Eorzea. It can be fun to pretend to be someone very different from the way you normally are. In RP you can be a heroic, swashbuckling hero... or a sly and sinister villain... or anything else you can think of. And most of us are quite willing to pretend along with you. In fact, a lot of us want to. And if you're worried about people not liking your character... well, our characters don't have to like each other. They can even outright hate each other. But that doesn't mean we have the same feelings about the people behind the keyboards. In fact, some of the best people I've known OOCly have been either enemies or total a-holes IC. A little OOC communication goes a long way to making sure people can keep perspective between IC and OOC. So get into the mindset of your character, take some chances in meeting people. You may be pleasantly surprised what happens.
  13. *snicker* Okay, I have to laugh at the irony of that simple spelling error. Never said I was perfect. =P
  14. Glad it worked out. My personal feelings on the matter - I do very much prefer to see people use proper spelling and grammar, and it can be really irksome to see someone constantly using 'your' (or even 'ur' ~shudder~) instead of 'you're', not using capitol letters, etc... BUT, I also realize that a lot of people grew up where typing like that was normal (especially when Twitter appeared and suddenly people were forced to contract words to make them fit in a tweet). I also know that a lot of people are not native to English. Some may be new to RP and used to run around with groups that didn't care about spelling and grammar. So I just deal with it. What is more important to me is if I understand what the other person is trying to communicate. I've seen people's typing improve over time, just from being exposed to people who type more 'properly' (for lack of a better phrase). Some people just need to be given a chance, and a little time and patience.
  15. Just a suggestion, it may help to list which server you are on. If you play on Mateus, perhaps our characters could cross paths. Maybe they'll like each other, maybe they'll hate each other, who knows?
  16. https://kotaku.com/final-fantasy-xiv-dad-of-light-star-ren-osugi-has-died-1823185070 For those not familiar with it, "Dad of Light" tells a story about a son who lures his father into playing FF14 in an attempt to forge a relationship between them. The catch is, the father does not know the Miqo girl helping him in the game is played by his son. It is a fun and charming show, and highly recommend watching it (it's on Netflix in the west).
  17. The way I see it, saying Miqo'te are cats is about the same as saying Hyur are monkeys or apes. Sure, they share some characteristics, but that doesn't make them the same thing. In the short time I've been in game, I've seen NPC Miqos run quite the spectrum. Some act very feline, have a slight 'purr' when they speak, and use terms like a 'litter' to describe followers. Others seem very 'civilized' (for lack of a better phrase) and do not exhibit much feline behavior and do not like being compared to domesticated pets. Miqo's have large ears and tails, so of course those will be expressive. It's natural, it's just a part of Miqo physiology. Hyur would have expressive tails too if they were born with them. Whether ears and tails act/react in cat-like manner depends on the Miqo. It all comes down to how one was raised. With us players, we are of course free to play our Miqo's however we want. The lore supports a wide range of styles. And I imagine it's the same with Au ra. Though I haven't made it that far in the game yet.
  18. When I started reading this thread I was rather surprised at what I was seeing. I've never seen backlash against healers like this in other games, I've even RP'd healers. But I can easily imagine how it only takes a few bad experiences to create a lot of animosity - certainly seen that happen to other kinds of RP before. To me there's a huge difference between what the game mechanics can do, what our characters can do realistically. By game mechanics someone can be on the edge of death, even die, over and over again in the span of minutes, and with a good healer around they get right back into the fray. "Oh, you have broken bones, ruptured organs and internal bleeding? It's amazing you're still standing. *snaps fingers* Okay, you're fixed. NEXT!" Not the most interesting way to RP healing. I've always RPd healers as having limits. Even the most powerful spell doesn't 'fix' everything instantly. It takes time, and more severe the injuries the longer it takes. Bones take even longer. Sometimes, when dealing with major injuries, the best my healer can do is close up wounds so the bleeding stops so the person doesn't die - essentially 'stable but critical condition' - and my healer will be exhausted for a while. A perfect example was in one of the Guild Wars 2 novels where one character had a broken wrist, and other who is a Guardian (essentially a D&D paladin) tells him he can fix the wrist, but it will take several sessions and he will need to rest in between them. So at least in GW2 that is lore, that is how it works. While I'm new to FF14, I'd bet that any official lore that features healing, it's not instant-fix-all either. Even with smaller injuries, my healers typically end a session with something like, "okay, I've done what I can. It'll be sore for while. You'll have a scar, but it won't be bad." If anything, I've had more issues with someone RPing their character jumping back up, perfectly healthy, before I've hardly begun to describe what my healer is doing. As with most RP, good communication is key. We're here to have fun. I do try to communicate when something my character does something that can impact someone else - I want to support RP, not take it over. As long as we keep communication open and are willing to work with people, there's no reason we can't get past the stigma some have against healers (or other RP)
  19. Oh, of course, they open Bal after I've already started making friends and laying down plans in Mateus. After I had already resigned myself to never being able to play with the friends I have who are already on Bal. Damn you, SE! Damn you to the Seven Hells! ~shakes fist in the air~ Oh, but we'll show them. Yes, we will. We'll make Mateus so awesome people will forget about Balmung! There will be nothing but crickets and tubleweeds to RP with! MUAHAHAHA! By the way... can anyone spare a few million so I can afford a house when they're open? =P
  20. Darn newbies, always breaking things. Wait... I'm kinda new here too. I've probably broken something along the way also... Actually, they recently did a major software upgrade and some of the formatting codes are now wonky and haven't been updated yet. Congrats on the anniversary. Hopefully it's just the beginning. I saw in your profile you're from Australia, so I doubt we'll see each other much in game (I live in California, kind of the opposite side of the Pacific), but if we do cross paths I'd be glad to strike up some RP.
  21. Good ideas, thanks. Now to think about how to embellish the story. Or, more accurately, how Moire would embellish it since it's her telling and she loves to exaggerate. And thanks for the link to the creature list. That'll come in handy.
  22. In the 'origin story' of my Miqo girls, their sire was a thief and got caught trying to rob a manor. Oops. The lord of the manor sends his hounds after the scoundrel... https://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/ips/index.php?/topic/20408-a-tale-of-tregardes/ But 'hounds' sounds so cliche. I'd like to spice it up with some creature a little more interesting. Being new to FF14, I'm not sure what would fill the role of 'hounds' to hunt down intruders. They would have to be something that can be tamed, yet vicious when ordered to attack. They would have to be either native to Eorzea, or something that could reasonably be imported by a rich noble. Any help would be appreciated.
  23. I. Basic Info Characters:Katarina Tregarde, Moire Tregarde, Luludja Tregarde Primary character:A Tregarde Linkshells: Primary RP linkshell: II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I enjoy all, but do limited play time Light is the most realistic goal. Views on RP combat and injuries: We're not invulnerable. You get in a fight, you get hurt. Even if you win, you get bruises at the least. I've had characters unable to do much because of broken bones, etc. Views on IC romance: OOC communication is a must to avoid OOC drama. Otherwise, if it’s IC, it’s fine. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): OOC communication is a must to avoid OOC drama. Otherwise, if it’s IC, it’s fine. My characters may hate your characters, but that doesn't mean I hate you OOCly. If anything, I enjoy chatting with people who can elicit strong IC reactions. Views on lore: Lore provides the framework of the world. It is a guideline, but we don’t have to be bound by it. Though deviations from lore should be plausible. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Chat is fun! Though I wish the open world had chat bubbles to make it easier to tell who is talking. III. 24. Oh wow. Yeah, would be nice to see some old friends in a new world, but someone locked the gates to Bal. Funny enough, I found a group who are working on getting a tea shop going, so there may soon be a Wishing Well in FF14. Hehe.
