I'm going to pick up on this and rather than feed you suggested answers I offer instead some questions that may help change your view? What do you like in other characters you RP with and what do you think they like in what characters you RP? From this maybe you can find some areas that you could change or enhance in your character to make it more engaging RP wise. Powerful, intelligent, self-discipline are all virtues. If you forgot about those and came up with more flawed characteristics what could those be and how would that change your character? There is a lot of RP in the struggle of a ordinary character in extraordinary situations. For me the win for RP is those ongoing struggles and not the IC winning. If they had not been drawn to a Dark Knight, what would have become of them? That part of them is probably still alive and is a rich font of reflection, regret or even relief. It could add extra dimension to your character than just Dark Knight. If your character as a child could meet your character as the adult, what advice would they each give the other? I hope that helps get you some different views on possibilities for your character.

Welcome, not level requirements to RP just get on in there and doo eeet! Join some of the RP link shells, go to events, wander up and talk to people. Unless you are shy then maybe start with the LS and a nice FC. You will see many topics here of people looking for connections, this is a good way to get your toe in the water. And given a chance it works like a drive by hit and run RP, leaving you dazed and smiling and wondering if you got that guy's number

-Is the RP community easy to get into for newer or inexperienced people? I've done a lot of forum-based RPs in the past, but I've never had a toon to physically manipulate or emote so I would like be a little awkward at first. Yes, and groups will help. There is something for most people if you put some effort in. -I know RP abundant, but how well if content handled? Is it easy to PUG? I've been raiding for a long time, and while I may not jump into a static I would like to at least be able to PUG things without it being a trip to the dentist. Plenty of folks, the server is full. If you join the queue then Tank is instant, healer wait a few seconds, dps .. go make a drink. At peak times it's fine. -State of content sales? Not a huge deal, but I've made most of my gil from selling content. I can get by with stocking up on stuff to re-sell after a transfer, but if content sales are an option that would be amazing. Market board is active most things are for sale and money can be made and things can be bought. -Is there a stranglehold on crafting for the MB? I've seen a few servers where it's nearly impossible to make anything off the MB as a crafter, again not a deal breaker or a huge deal but something that I would like to know in advance. Yes you can make gil from crafting, even from providing basic mats or HQing mats. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, those are the biggies. I appreciate any help! ^.^ How about, there are no free houses and people have to pay someone to relinquish a plot. Many hope for some change when more housing comes on line.

I'm EU, I'm a heavy RPer (in terms of always trying to be IC, I am open on lore though.) I'm kind of avoiding tavern RP atm as I want more depth. So definitely happy to link up.

Well you will find all styles on Balmung. Though the tendancy in open fast paced RP there is less description, and in more one to a few then it becomes more verbose. This is practical reasons mostly as if you take 5min to respond in a fast moving RP you are going to struggle. Personally I'm with you somewhat. If my toon sits or moves or smiles, I don't feel the need to more that they sat down. etc.. (keyboard farts aside) Though I would advise adding some emotion, this seems to help the others pick up on a mood that otherwise does not come across. Most will emote and add speech. /em frowns with concern, "You left the cake out in the rain?"

Others have said stuff you need to do, so... Learn to PvE in 8 man. It is a bit different than 4 man I expect and mechanics more focused in a big boss fight. Do Trials, also the 24 man dungeons, though they can be more crazy than real raiding. Watch a guide/video so you kind of know what to expect and what your job is. Death and even wipes await the unprepared. Accept that you will be better on your 5th run than your 1st. 1st run - don't wipe the party, try not to die, and if you can do some dps 5th run - situation awareness starts to kick in Accept that some PuG groups will be all kinds of bad and some will be all kinds of wonderful. If you want to push end game, find a static/FC as pugging that is worse than worse. If you do join a learning group expect it to split over nothing, but be papered to give it a good shot yourself. Myself I don't do savage because.. too much hassle with people. But don't be a sour puss like me.

That's a fair point, but where would the sound come from? I don't know if I've ever even seen a large bell in-game. lol I think if you have the clock in the house chimes

All the random stuff NPCs say in bubbles. I am often running away and back to read them. This is the only bit of the game I actually read i never read quests... and that explains why I have no clue what is happening but instead make up my own stories (just like life).

Luckily I wrote my little ditty for this and used at another event (dry run yea that's what it was) so I'm all set!.

Once you get past the how to.. do the job quests it sort of takes you through it all. *there be spoilers*

"Debriefing" is not just an RP thing it is useful in any number of things where your attention is focused/blinkered. It is a way to reflect and review things. I suppose the "special" aspect of MMO-RP is it is virtual, so there is no OOC feedback when you are immersed in character (body language, sighs, disinterest, etc..). You have absolutely no view on the other people's intent, feelings etc.. The important point being, don't assume you know and instead ask/chat/talk OOC if there is some element that you feel needs it. Just a simple, "How was the RP for you?" will switch it to OOC. Not always necessary as I personally prefer just IC and see where it goes with the characters. Any problems or clarification though and I ask OOC. This is not really about the right and wrong way to RP but more how to avoid issues, be resilient and respect those you are RPing with.

Hmm.. well.. I'd start with asking yourself - "What could someone do that would make you go over an engage with them?" That at least will help in thinking what you could do. But this is still a passive RP Trap, and is easy for your RP victims to avoid. Much better targeting your victim, and then applying your RP chat-up lines. "I was supposed to meet someone here who was wearing a green shirt. Badaxe is that you?" Starts hopping and cursing and almost bumps into Badaxe, "Owch, owch, there is something in my boot biting me get it off!" "Excuse me I'm collecting for the poor orphans.
