  1. Waiting for name-changes was the longest wait ; ; When I found out that my characters original surname was more fit for an Elezen, I started thinking alternatives and because it was so early in, I had it in her story from the get-go that her real name was not her current name, and decreed the surname to be entirely OOC. I got some comments on it along the way, and a lot of pain with reminding people that the surname was ooc when people would accidentally mention it icly. As time went on, I unfolded a plotline wherein her real name was discovered and I was lucky to have the name change feature release shortly after, so I jumped on that. I will stress though that I decided to do this because I feel more comfy with having a name that is compliant to the naming convention for the most part. Whenever I see someone who has an odd name, I always assume that there's a story behind it and I wish more people would have that kind of response to it. If it helps, I quite like your name because it means cake in my native tongue and cake is the best :3
  2. Hello! I am in the midst of writing a story for one of my characters, and in it I thought to include the mention of one or more diseases of various severity. The problem I am facing is that I do not recall ever hearing of any as I've quested through the world. I can think of aether sickness, but that's really about it. So I was wondering if you guys had heard of any diseases known to roam about in Eorzea, or if you have had some that you have designed yourself put into play. And possibly their ways of being cured, if there is one. I've always presumed that there must be some, though with the existence of healers I don't know if they could feasibly spread like we see the flu do in RL, as an example - as people, maybe save for the poorest, would likely go see a healer at the first sign of a disease. What's peoples takes on it?
  3. I've been getting the Elitist label chucked at me a lot more in recent time than I ever have anywhere else. But at the same time, none of the people who actually use it against me and whoever else they feel the desire to target, are using it as per the definition you give it in your OP. What you write is exactly how I would describe the elitists of old that pestered me when I was a whippersnapper in the world of RP, people who look down upon you and point out in the nastiest of ways, all of the things that is wrong with your RP as per whatever standards they run by. Heck, I even remember a certain rogue in WoW who followed "Bad" roleplayers like me around in stealth whenever we were roleplaying, commenting on how rotten we all were to a chat channel that was created pretty much just for spiting and rumor-mongering. It is to this day some of the worst high-school rubbish behavior I have ever seen in a RP community. What I think people are more reacting to when it is used against me for example, is that they've found out where my standards and expectations are - I won't lie, I have high expectations of myself and of the FC that I lead - either because someone talked about it or maybe they read a forum post where you express it. I think a lot of people tend to assume that people with high standards automatically think they're better than you, or they might feel inferior, insecure or just feel like they're being judged. So I guess it gets easier to just go "Those damn elitists". With myself, I can be incredibly strict with the lore - and I have had people upset with me because I do not take a shining to what they're doing in RP, but lore is usually not at the top of my list of why I wont RP with a person. More-so than anything else, if anyone violate the common rules of RP, especially bleed between ic/ooc, I will get myself on a distance because that shit can be downright volatile. I also get really discouraged if someone glosses over the rules because they want to RP a demigod for funsies. If lore becomes an issue, it's usually because people insist that I have to accept their RP - I RP with plenty of people where I have just asked them not to mention to my character, whatever it is that they're doing that I wouldn't be able to let my character hear without the world breaking apart, and it works just fine. Some of the major areas where I feel I can't let my character hear something is fantasia use, being an IC whitemage/blackmage and other things of a world-changing scale. It doesn't mean I do not look between the lines and think creatively to get something to work out, but usually when I do, only a few people know ICly and such details wont pop up on my characters wiki either. I don't want to impose my justifications on anyone else, because what sounds like a sane way to rationalize something might not suit someone else. And at the end of the day.. I still can look at other people doing paragraph emotes in all of their glory and descriptiveness, then look at my shitty little 3-line emote where I mention smiling for the 500th time and feel like I am the worst little noob ever. I also still get bouts where I just do not dare approaching strange characters. I think one of the reasons why I might be so tight with the rules and the lore is in part because I do not want to disappoint other people. So there's that. Anyways, that's my two gil on why some things might be as they are. I have no idea why it seems a much bigger issue around here compared to other communities, but I think some healthy debate on the subject would be good.. Presuming that this thread doesn't go to shits.
  4. I saw this picture someone (I forgot who. I am bad) had made on reddit and decided it would suit well as my desktop. My desktop is usually not this clean
  5. Exceptionally wrong. But then June 23rd doesn't really qualify as spring. Lies and deception I tell you.
  6. I see I need to tell my FC to go level their crafting some more by the sounds of it.. If we're going into a party.. That means potentially upwards of 8 people could be needed and/or useful for it. Hmm..
  7. In this writing moment there's 6 hours until the livestream (12pm ET) http://www.twitch.tv/finalfantasyxiv I've already got my stream window sorted, really excited for it! What are you hoping they'll show us on the stream? Personally I am hoping we'll get to know a bit more Au Ra lore, and then I really want to see what the airships are like. Details so far (trying to filter out what we already know) - The scale of the content is comparable to an entirely new mmorpg - The floating continent will be in Heavensward's areas - Taking to the sky is a major theme in both the expansion and the following patches - New raid: Alexander. Has 2 different difficulties, normal and hardcore. Also has a new loot system. - The Au ra will be very custumizable. Example given was the female, which can be cutesy and petitie of beastly and succubus-like. - Next month there will be a benchmark type software for the expansion where you can try out customization. - Deeper explanation of how they select and develop new jobs. - Showoff of new AF armor: DoM+DoW | DoH+DoL (Thanks for the links, Kismet!) - Expansion date! June 23rd, early access is June 19th - Showoff of the expansion zones Video (Thanks to Kismet for finding it) r9OpI7Muvho Images: Concept stuff - Some of it was scrapped:
  8. In the anime department I haven't really recovered properly from watching the ouram high school anime. Wish there was more of it ; ; I got through a bunch of episodes of Fairytail when I last was out travelling. But right now I'm not watching anything, mostly waiting for season 2 of sword art online to be dubbed - I prefer to be able to listen whilst doing other things and am not so fond of the original voices, so I'm doomed to waiting. Outside of that, I don't follow any shows other than when there's a new documentary show surfacing on YT or similar. I may or may not have a /perfectly/ healthy relationship to the documentary addict website

    On Age

I will just note that during the Lore Q/A panel during the fan fests the lore developer team did touch on eorzean lifespans. They noted that whilst most races could possibly become 100 years old, it was very unlikely that they would because Eorzea is a very dangerous place to live, where people, the environment & exploding moons are out to get you. So with that in mind, it is very likely that being 40-50 years old as a hyur in Eorzea is considered old, perhaps even impressive and something to revere. Which then could mess with when society regards someone as being adult, I wouldn't be surprised if 18 wasn't exactly the legal age in Eorzea. Otherwise on the topic, if you find out that a character is a minor and you are not comfortable with it, you always have the option to politely excuse yourself icly - Presuming that the age question is popped early in the RP, you might not even need to make an OOC mention about it. If people ask, then just state things as they are - people should respect your personal boundaries at the end of the day. You might benefit from implementing something in your characters personality or background that makes them react this way. When you make it a quirk it gets easier to go with - I have some traits in Nailah that are there because of certain OOC elements which can not be negotiated, which now are a fully integrated undeniable part of who she is as a character. You can't ever tell people what they can and can't do, you can just choose not to hang around a person if you find out they're doing something you as a player, for one reason or the other, can't stomach. Be it age, a lore violation like say, people suddenly transforming into a werewolf-vampire hybrid which remains friendly, you name it. Yes, it will limit your rp-circle if you would but.. It's not like there's a shortage of roleplayers ^^
  10. Feel free to look Nailah up anytime ^^ We sometimes have people that get ouchies so it might be nice with an IC connection that way.

  12. Rhyllona might just be one of the few female roes that do not scare me Absolute a favorite /pet target when running about in the world and very nice friend to have in this game
  13. Nailah leads a company, which has a tavern though it's currently not staffed. Occasionally do events of various sorts which may sometimes need a hand or two from the outside. I'm a european with nocturnal tendencies so depending on your hours they may be able to stumble across each-other and have a chat. Also a potential for just a casual connection, she does enjoy simply meeting new faces ^^
  14. Steamwheedle Cartel - shout out! I moved from AD to SWC when they opened it up. For STEAMWHEEDLE, I was either Darnaub, Allistria or Gnogg! I was Dralei, then Sivri @ Steamwheedle EU.
  15. I started rping in chatrooms local to my language, I just had no idea that was what it was. For me at the time it was just random fun. Needless to say it was completely free for all with what you did. I also did some stuff on IRC at some point. When I played Rubies of Eventide, I did some things reminiscent of RP, and looking back I do think the person I talked a lot with then was a roleplayer of some variety. My English was still pretty bad though, and I never found any of the people I met there again - I have been somewhere around 13-15 years old at the time. I didn't actually speak fluid English until I was about 17/18, today I am completely bilingual. My "serious" roleplay career got kickstarted in World of Warcraft (I was about 19), because I was 110% done with raiding and I met some people IRL that played on Steamwheedle Cartel (EU). I made an escape alt, and because it was the norm to browse realm forums for me, I had a peek at SWC's and saw a multitude of stickied guides, their wiki and a long long list of guilds that were willing to take in newbies. I got curious and decided to apply for one whilst I worked on a background.. An 18 year old Draenei raised by a talking bear . We all have to start somewhere right?? I got taken to this IC interview where everyone frowned at me fiercely and it's the most terrifying thing I've ever done, after which they rejected me and one of them whispered me recommending me to read the lore of the game. So I did, and after a week or so I contacted them again (I don't think they were expecting this) and I was given a second chance as they sat up a small campfire fishing-trip type thing. Because of my chat experience I was completely used to emoting and, they got me in and assigned me a mentor. After a long time with them, I transferred over my previous raiding main and started to delve into Heavy RP, which I have stuck to ever since. I stuck with WoW for about two years before "Going on a break" from which I never returned, rather I continued to RP in Rift and eventually ended up here when XIV launched. I still talk to a few people from my WoW time, but most notably after six or so years I still play with one of them, here in XIV
  16. I am so confused because I saw it yesterday and it was white and gold. And then when I browsed interwebs on my tablet later in the night, it was blue and black. The very same images. I know it's something with the lightwaves or so but like.. *blink blink blink blink* One of my fav youtubers explain.. jexnhNfOzHg
  17. Nailah, when she realizes someone is seriously falling for her: Commitment issues? Naaaaah.. Don't know what you're on about.. *pokerface*
  18. Would you be able to make stuff for one-time donations as well? I love this site and I'd like to contribute, but I would not be able to pay anything significant over the course of several months because I can't find permanent work - rocking a soon-to-be six month unemployment spree here -.-
