  3. Welcome back! Not being a GM is really enjoyable, I can recommend it. See you around
  4. I'm definitely in the boat of that not much has changed. Even back when I started rping, which is way too many years ago now, we would joke about how there's two types of rpers- those who admit to ERP and those who lie. It's not 100% true, of course, but I suppose it says something about how things once were. I think what's happened in Final, especially on Balmung, is that we don't per se have a goldshire and then an alternative that everyone else uses - Which is something that always puzzled me, since there's other tavern options very close by. The Quicksand in Ul'dah is an RP hub just as much for serious characters as it is for level 1 courtesans. And in general, there's a lot more peace and acceptance in our community than there are in some others/have been historically (from my experiences), so the things that were hidden away out of shame - not just limited to ERP - is more or less on full show. But I would also hesitate to call those who purely seek ERP as roleplayers? At least when it comes to the level one variety. They're not something I see as a part of the rest of us, because the rules are different, IC/OOC is more blurred and self-inserting into your character is also something you see more. Aka people roleplaying as themselves. If it's the main goal, then honestly I see it as cybering. To me, the definition of ERP will always just be the erotic part of roleplay, a thing that needs to occur naturally and that some opt to skip kind of like how some opt to skip RP that involves a lot of walking. I find it a bit sad that perfectly good/healthy terms gets dragged through the mud and comes out of it like something regular rp'ers would no longer put on their resumé, because I see the need for RPers to be able to tag themselves up as one of the keys to having less ooc drama.

    Hello!

I hope you'll find some good people on Mateus that can show you the ropes I find it awesome whenever someone who hasn't tried it yet is brave enough to dip their toes into this wonderful world of words.

  12. Hiiiiii Maril! I'd love to RP some time! We've RP'd before once or twice but it's been a long time and it was on another character... though I do hear great things about you from Sun'ra! Let's do the thing! I did think the name was familiar! Indeed! Let me know when would be good for you. If you have discord just fling me your name there in a PM then I can add ya.
  13. I do not think anyone is asking to commit to 12 servers or even fulltime alts? It takes about an hour or two to get a character to level 15 that you an go to events with. It's not a huge tradeoff for the chance of new lasting connections. Regular players and roleplayers alike, we tend to want to be where our friends are. You don't make new friends by not reaching out. And whilst I am sure a lot of people would wish we could just snap our fingers and go we're going -here-, that is not going to be how it happens. It will be a slow process if anything, and the only thing that can speed it up is if Squeenix decides to make transfer incentives for the US as well. It needs steady work from a lot of firesouls, and I think calling people out on not wanting to move is very disrespectful to those who are doing something for their server and have done so for a long time. Even if there's "only" two guilds to move, that is still a lot of people who need to have the means for it, it is a huge undertaking and I do not envy those who decide to spearhead it if at one point the opinions in the community changes in favor of a move. This is sowing a lot of seeds, people are getting to know each other & now it "only" takes persistence to get the rest of the way. Who knows, maybe people will all end up on Mateus- it's just not gonna happen by tomorrow.
  14. Kinda decided to go full meme on this one
  15. I think the lack of people grouping up on one server has come from the fact that there hasn't been a very clearly advertised and unified initiative- The attitude has been "You can just transfer in". Gilgamesh was a good attempt but there were several factors along with that server also exploding with people which made it more obscure and harder to find. As you also said, not wanting to use every platform available isn't a good thing, fostering a "Us vs. them" feeling just because Balmung is bigger and more people from Balmung use a certain platform isn't going to help anyone at the end of the day. So it's lead to a situation where people are scattered, and right now what is holding people in this scattered form is the fact that people have now worked hard on their own community bubbles for 1+ years, so they don't immediately want to uproot. This is where I hope NA will eventually see similar benefits to transferring as the EU are sported to get. People do seem to agree with the notion that they have to come together more, so I still think there's plenty of good possibilities to get more unification going even if it means people wont transfer anywhere right this second.
  16. I am just going to throw in one of the ideas that have surfaced on the discord that has been working to gather information about the other communities thus far, and then I will give you the information we have gotten as well. One of the big things I have seen, which people seem to support as well, is to have stunt doubles of your existing characters on various servers. Several server reps (FC leads etc.) have stated they'd be willing to host events which would be easily accessible by e.g a level 15 character. Even going so far as to provide rides on 2 person mounts to get people to locations that it would be risky and lengthy to run to. I think this is a great way to ease up on the fact that the community is otherwise very scattered. Obviously mains have to be somewhere, but even to that end, rolling alts to check out various communities may help ease that choice - and building a culture where the server you play on isn't going to restrict you from some events is only beneficial, in my eyes. Presently I know there are RP communities on; Jenova Coeurl Lamia Mateus Cerberus Cactuar Ultros Leviathan Hyperion Midgardsomr Gilgamesh Famfrit These are either organised in linkshells or guilds. Not all of them have websites. Size wise, a lot of them seem equal. I do not think that having a mentality of "Bigger is better" is going to be very helpful when looking for RP outside of Balmung. http://jenovacasualcorner.tumblr.com/ - Jenova http://rec-u.enjin.com/ - Jenova http://koto-ffxiv.shivtr.com/ - Jenova http://www.gilgamesh-rp.com/ - Gilgamesh Awoken Wanderers on Leviathan, Arche Koeln on Lamia, Tantalus Threatre LS on Lamia, The Hearth LS on Leviathan.. And more to come. We will eventually get the names and links of everywhere. I hope you can use some of this info for your list.
  17. Heya! My alt Thala'to is a recreational druguser who most definitely could quit anytime he likes he just doesnt feel like it right now - I'd love to strike up some shady dealings RP and get a face on his pusher if you'd be up for that? We can do something some time.
  18. I have no opinion on this just yet, however I figured I would chip in and say that I have been able to confirm that there is a small RP community already on Lich. Among other things they are designing a housing ward for RP (mist ward 9.) What I would perhaps encourage people to do is to create alts on various servers and generate some RP, or participate in what is already there. You can create clones of your existing characters. See where that gets you.
  19. It would be lovely to have a more consolidated "little sister" server for RP here, especially given character slot limitations! I have far more ideas for characters than I do slots, but I'm hesitant to make a character on a server that doesn't have a substantial RP community on it. I actually walked away from FFXIV after playing the free trial once over a year ago, because I didn't know I could pay to transfer into a new-character-locked Balmung, and the only other server that was listed here as having a roleplaying community was Gilgamesh (also locked). So not having a community-designated secondary server actually hurt my willingness to stay with the game in that case. It's possible we could grow the RP community by having another option out there. There are presently established communities. I am only going to speak about Jenova, because that's the only place I've got an alt and I've done a little bit of RP on- What Jenova needs from my experience, is something like a centralized Discord or more of an active presence here on the RPC that can help direct people at guilds that foster RP. Presently I know Reclamations United to be one such guild that also has a high focus on helping people gear up & level. Basically the friendly type of helping guild you may have seen in other mmorpgs too. Speaking for myself but also as a moderator here, I know we'd like to do what we can to help people get to the right places - We see a very big volume of new RP'ers come by these forums for help and resources. So in the light of all of this, it might be an idea to create a discord or a thread here (or both) that people can organize in. It doesn't strictly have to be with the intention of going to Jenova, but there may be more people willing to put alts in new places like you are. I mean honestly, I could see myself doing it too (moreso than I have already.) Went and did that. Info here.
  20. I would think that FFXIV is going in Rift's direction, which now allows you (and has for like four years, I guess) to teleport to any world your friend is on by joining their party. It started as a bug and then they made it a feature. I think it also tries to place you in mediumpop zones when you level, or at least that's what it felt like yesterday. Either way, as much as it sucks with the timing, I have some hopes that it can even out Balmung entirely. Free gametime, better conditions for transferring and so on may entice more of the people who only PvE (and are maybe a bit tired of the RP'ers) to seek to greener pastures - especially since raids can be formed across more servers and such. So they don't stand to lose as much as RPers would. I also think that if all of the RP'ers from Balmung moved, whichever server we'd go to would become high pop and lock down. Cause we're quite a few. But yeah. It might also help nurture some of the smaller RP communities, I would certainly encourage people who are scattered over many of the smaller servers (Jenova, Mateus..) to see if it's possible to come together completely in one place and foster Balmung's little sister.
  21. Ala Mhigo. Everything about it. I'm also looking forward to the possibility of some new hubs. I know it's going to take a lot to move people out of the Quicksand, but even if it's just for a short time, that would be nice. Or heck, even just a secondary hub that is consistently visited - moreso than the current alternatives. Say what you want about the rabble. I'm also looking forward to people returning, waking up from this slumber we're in.
  22. Svensken kommer, svensken kommer! Nawh just kidding. It sounds like you're off to a solid start. Feel free to hit me up for RP if you see me about - I am from Denmark myself so our timezone is the same. Also feel free to check out the EU directory, it can give you some help with finding guilds and linkshells
