Oh, I played the crap out of Darkness Falls, too! All the responses about the 90s made me think of it

... -hangs his head- When I was 13 or 14, I roleplayed Vampire Hunter D and Madmartigan from Willow in the Red Dragon Inn. I am ashamed. x3 I shall join you in shame. I am probably the only person in existance to be involved in a Bardock vs Sephiroth RP. -hangs his head in shame- Nope. The place I started RPing had all kinds of anime/game characters mixed together RPing. There were designated people to RP as those characters, too. One of the characters I played was a clone v_v Oh gawd, I remember those too. That Anime Secret Wars I mentioned ((It's actual name >.<) Had that lol. Back in those days the creator would steal all the fun ones for their friends and such? Nostalgia man. Yep yep! Ours was just called Nerima. It had a whole little.. backstory thing as to how and why they were all together, as well as a power chart. If anything, it did a good job of showing me that my personal character is not as powerful as main characters, because any named individual would be able to canonically beat my character's ass

Gonna bump this for anyone that has more input I'm looking into the usage of drugs for a character I have. Also wanted to say thanks to everyone that has posted something here, as it has been very helpful!

I guess that's really up to the RP character. But you're totally right in that you don't see the average Eorzean walking around in glamour or peddling glamours. They seem fairly uncommon to the general populace. So I guess having them would be dependent on if you think it makes sense for your character. If your character is a very well traveled Adventurer, or a dubious merchant in strange and little understood goods, or a Garlean trying to blend in with Eorzeans for whatever reason... I think you could make it work for the character. My character, on the other hand, wouldn't know the first thing about glamour or even where to get her hands on them unless they were being sold in Hawker's Alley. That's pretty much how I see it. Val would never use a glamour. He has a hard enough time sensing aether as it is, much less controlling it. Vallois couldn't either, and Cyrus would have a very tentative understanding only due to what his parents taught him. The only person I've ever had cast a glamour spell was Melfice, a void-enthusiast, and it was just meant to change how he looks.

I see your point =) I think my reservations come with asking how easy it would be for your typical eorzean/adventurer to do. Most of the people/creatures you mentioned are considered MSQ characters/more powerful than your average adventurer/RP character should be.

We'll just say I started RPing back in 97/98ish in Yahoo's chat system. The "realm" was called Ayenee, which had an anything-goes modern/medieval vibe of vampires, knights, the like. It had an offshoot realm of anime RPers called Nerima. ...I won't go further into detail than that, but there were some really good (and horrid) RPers there. I still keep in touch with a lot of them. It's nice to catch back up with old friends and see how they've grown from our old high school days. From there, I moved to World of Warcraft upon its initial release as my first MMO RP experience. I was on the Silver Hand server, and later moved to Moon Guard when WotLK released. I was Alliance on both.

This makes two of us. SE has a bad, BAD habit of trying to explain everything they do in the game with in-game lore, and it ends up broken at worst and incredibly campy at best. I don't think there really is a lot of lore on glamour so much as they needed an excuse as to how their system would work and they weaved something together as they're known to do. I'd like to think it's little more than a bit of illusion magic, but I really don't know who would be able to cast that and where it would be learned from aside from sylphs and typical fae folk.

The "source of his power" thing is something that I'm already doing with a partner of my own, and we're having a ton of fun with it. I hope you manage to find one Good luck out there!

Well I guess it's finally time to actually do some role-play with you instead of loitering on the HoD lawn. ლ(=ↀωↀ=)ლ Does Mel and Shadiya have anything of value that Rhian could possibly take away from them? Books? Artifacts? Their underwea— Weeeeeell, Mel and Shade are currently out of commission because Shade died and Mel is obsessed with her revival of reasons, but Mel generally has some important trinkets or something on his person when he's out in public. Shade hardly wears clothes, but I think she may have some things on her to facilitate RP If you're interested in them, we can move that story right along and maybe get something going!

You're welcome to steal from any of my characters =D

Does this mean Val gets to be the redneck hooligan trying to win her love and braving shotgun blasts to the face to prove himself to her?

Val is an above average fighter because he quite literally spends a good majority of his day training. No, I don't RP it all out (because that would honestly be boring), but I also don't RP him suddenly knowing something either. Mudra, for example, has been a long and arduous process as he doesn't have the slightest bit of knowledge/experience in controlling (or even detecting) aether. I balance it out by not allowing him to be socially inept and mostly ignorant when it comes to book-smarts. He's messed up plenty of times by telling someone "Oh there's like three enemies" when there were really eight or so. He's also incredibly humorous, so he brings a lot of comedy elements to RP (so long as no one gets offended by what he says). Melfice is overpowered. I'll admit it. But I don't allow him to wander around and get into altercations specifically for that reason. He's meant to be a villain/boss for people to fight (which the FC has done on a few occasions and they seem to enjoy him). When I interact with him in public, I try to be very open and respectful to people's personal character and I keep him held back and mostly out of trouble, though I do love to have him interact with randoms! Cyrus is underpowered. He's a self-pronounced squire and knight-hopeful, but he's not really that skilled. He's strong, but that only gets one so far. He doesn't really have any tactics or skill with a sword and shield beyond what his parents taught him, and even then he's never actually fought a real opponent. Vallois I like to say is somewhere in the middle. He's very powerful as far as strength is concerned and uses his aether to augment said strength, but he's prone to tunnel visioning his opponent, which doesn't really make him a great ally to fight with. In a combat scenario, Vallois could take Cyrus. Val could take Vallois with a bit of trouble, and Melfice could (and has) taken Val in the past (with little trouble). I dislike playing overpowered characters, to be honest. It's not fun. I don't like shooting kamehameha blasts with one hand and snapping a finger to make things explode. I like struggle. I like to see characters fail, but I also want them to realistically fail. In combat, if someone pushes Val to the ground and runs the equivalent of thirty yards before coming back to hit him, there's a good chance Val would have been able to get up by then (assuming he was never really injured beforehand). I just like realism in combat scenarios (within the lore of the world), and to have a fun combat experience. I've had MANY wonderful combat experiences with some people in the game. K'hali and Val have traded victories, as well as Berrod, Siobhain, Yangh, and some others. I actually quite enjoy combat RP so long as the opponent is adequately skilled and can be respectful and talk things out in a civil manner.

All of them. Just use all of them. Speaking of, Franz, we have unfinished business (as soon as my school work dies down ) Yes, yes we do. Now would have been such an excellent time for erm...science. (but I'm also really happy it's not been forgetten. ...like, -REALLY- happy) Franz bby never. I've just been so busy with stuff ;-; I'll not derail the thread further, though! C'ELENI NEEDS VILLAINS LETS GIVE THEM TO HER.

I'll take, "Things I Never Expected To Read On The RPC" for 5000, Alex. I get what you mean -instancing and such, but I hope SE handles the Gold Saucer a HELL of a lot better than they have handled housing in general.... I'm hoping for some good table space in the casino. To be fair, they did handle housing atrociously. I just mean that they have different wards/instances/floors of the casino. Say the casino has 10 floors for the population to spread themselves out over, and the RPC chooses something like Floor 7 or whatever to hang around and RP on. That way, it isn't as crowded and people can maybe get some RP in. Other than that, no. I expect it to be way too crowded and way too trollish for people to get any respectable RP done.
-
I think it ultimately depends on how they instance it off, or if they do. If they don't? I expect a ton of trolls and way too much lag to facilitate decent, open RP unless done in party. If they do instance it off, I think we as a community need to choose a good ward and try to stick to it for open RP stuff. ..If SE is smart, they'll do it the same way they did housing.

One of these for Val :v maybe both.

Hi C'eleni! Faye and I play a couple of villain-esque characters, though they're currently in a plotline thing that they're getting settled out. I at least would be more than happy to RP Melfice with you sometime! His wiki is in my sig, as is Faye's (Shadiyah) from there

I'm.. .. I honestly don't know what Val's nationality is. I've honestly never considered it x_x I've had people tell me they hear Irish whenever I type out his accent, but I've also heard people hear a few other things >_o so I can't really say.
