No body. Specific explanation by NPC on how the floor collapsed underneath them and sent them into the river. Not a single tear was shed that day. Gosetsu, no family, probably dedicated to fighting one war or another his entire life. Yotsuyu, no love in her life from her family. Oh, I see what's happening here. Redemption arc. Lets ride. I wonder how they can make it good though. I felt like they tried real hard to get me to feel for her motives, but the entire time I'm sitting there shaking my head like alright I see you had a rough one. You're still an awful person though. I liked Zenos. Yeah, he was one dimensional but you need one of those every so often. When all your villains are fallen heroes that gets old too. Sometimes you just need a villain that's a monster. And this one was recognized as such even by his papa. Like it wasn't a character that was meant to be deeper and they fumbled it-- it was just a character that was meant to be a shallow monster. Fordola was fantastic on the other hand. Just great. This xpac definitely lacked the emotional impact of Haurchefaunt dying. Like compared to Haurchefaunt... who the eff was Conrad. I mean the old man was alright, but my friends barely remembered him. I had to remind them he died when they spoke of how little we lost.

Same. It's disappointing since it makes my chosen response completely opposed to what I intended. Oh well.

balmung Magitek lover looking for airship engineers

Hello! I am the Free Company leader of the Lemieux Skytrade Company and I share your views on the rarity and magnificence of manacutters. My group of pirates currently owns four manacutters. Three work and 1 is broken. They've taken these manacutters as loot after some high-octane adventures against rival pirates and the such. Have your character swing by Goblet Ward 4, Plot 30 after about 8pm EST and sooner or later your bound to hear talk of manacutters. And if she's real lucky, she might just get escorted to check them out as far as buying them , we'll see, but we do roleplay them as being extremely expensive and beyond their worth just rare enough that they won't be willing to part with them very easily. Maybe the broken one . Let me know if this is relevant to your interests -

By Halone! What a compliment. Thank you very much! It means a lot to hear that feedback. Here's an updated list of the lovelies you'll be able to nab a date with! If you can afford it that is . And Wolf or Castle... tough choice. Castle sounds like a badass Roe lady on name alone, but I've seen a lot of the ol' Steel Wolf around these forums and never gotten the opportunity to see her in action. Tough, tough choice. -
This is interesting. What do you all do when MSQ events necessitate knowledge of the WoL? For example... You wouldn't need to be too high up in Ul'dah to know that the WoL was involved in that fiasco at the end of 2.55. Or that the WoL was involved in the very public Ishgardian fiasco at the end of 3.1. There's a lot of MSQ events that even if your character isn't part of it... they really would've heard about them. Yeah, you can refer to him as just 'the Warrior of Light', but if your partner isn't conscientious and has their character ask you what they look like... Just weird. It's a pickle. At this point in time, with all the High profile things the WoL has done everyone should really know what they look like.... A Miqo'te... an Au Ra... whatever they are, our characters should really know, but to be respectful we have to have them feign ignorance.

There's almost always a queue on Balmung but there's a relatively simple trick to getting in regardless of your number. You click cancel and try again and it puts you right in. I think the only time I ever had to actually wait for the Queue was on Release day for Heavensward. For me, coming up with a character -specially- when its not for roleplay but story writing starts with what kind of story I want to tell. First I need to figure out the kind of tale, the moral, the essence of what I'm trying to say. The character then becomes a tool to tell that story. A facilitator. What kind of story do you want to write? Start there, then you'll have a better idea of the right character to help you tell that story. Start simple. Shallow. And slowly delve deeper into the meat of the character. Start at the core of the character, and explain how that core came to be. Each question you answer will lead to more and more questions to be answered like a domino effect. If you do this successfully there comes a point where the questions begin to answer themselves, and that's when you know you've a character that stands on its own.

My own Xaela alt practices ritualistic cannibalism, and though I've never enough time to play him he has a similar idea weaved into his backstory. Born a Dotharl, but left behind after a raid he joined a Warband whose shaman preached the believe that you can take with you the soul of your enemy to the afterlife. Like retainers. They do this by what else but consuming the seat of their soul-- their heart. Now if the kill has no value. The enemy weak or soft, the heart is fed to the dogs. Thereby forcing them to follow a dog into the afterlife. Still, there's a big difference between ritualistic cannibalism and hunting Eorzeans for sport. A character who is hunting Eorzeans for sport has a limited shelf-life before it becomes a saturday morning cartoon villain.

Bumping this post to let everyone know that as the edit says we've made the decision to postpone this event due to the unforeseen circumstances of an oddly timed scheduled maintenance. Rest assured that this only gives us more time to get everything set just right for a fun social roleplaying event. 3/16/16. We look forward to seeing you there! -
Translation: will be holding the in-character official opening of the Manticore’s Den Tavern and Inn. Come join us on Wednesday March 16th, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. CST (8:30 p.m. EST) on Goblet 4/30, Balmung Server. *The only part of this event that will be held out of character is an Art Raffle; every individual who attends the event will have their name taken for a raffle. Three winners will be selected at random for individual pictures of the OC with which they attended the event. First Place: Full body flat color sketch. by Xhobits Second Place: Half body flat color sketch. by Mothisms! Third Place: Bust flat color sketch. by Nyx! *Those outside the FC in character may see this flyer and volunteer to work as one-night entertainers, volunteers for the auction, etc. This may be an opportunity for some individuals seeking a way to join or associate with the FC in character to do so. Feel free to employ this as a hook. *Individuals participating in the auction are in no way obligated to more than a social roleplay outing. Any mutually pursued alternatives are unrelated to the Free Company. *Auctions begin at 50k and 10 percent of the final bid on all volunteers will be put towards the renovations and development of the Free Company estate and accommodations for its members. *This beautiful flyer was made by the talented @gunsmith-cat. Thank you so much! **Had a mistype I forgot to correct involving exclusively members versus all volunteers and the percentage that would go towards the company and its members. Thank you very much for your understanding. Update: Due to an unfortunately timed scheduled maintenance we're postponing this event one week. Everything will remain as is but just one week into the future. 3/16/16. We look forward to seeing you there and sorry for the inconvenience!

3.2 Story and Discovery Thread: HERE BE [SPOILERS]
Sin replied to Warren Castille's topic in FFXIV Discussion
The reason that Nidstinien's skewer was not a killing blow seems simple to me. Nidhogg intended to kill, but Estinien is resisting from within and steers the lance just an inch away from lethal in an act of defiance. Also in 3.4, once we kill Nidhogg, Hraesvalgr will reveal the poorly foreshadowed twist. "There must always be a Nidhogg, Warrior of Light." Then Aymeric becomes the new Nidhogg and we go on to the new expansion. -
As far as an axe wielding mage imbuing his axe with magic, we've an example in the form of Ser Hermenost of the Heavens' Ward. From Dengeki article here, we have this translation. "A veteran from the previous Lord Commander’s tenure, Hermenost was originally a friar in the service of Halone, and is known as a particularly devout man. Although he wields an axe on the battlefield, he is also a skilled mage, and devised a unique method of combat that involves imbuing his axe with lightning." As an Ishgardian friar he would've learned such magicks in the Scholasticate before refining them into his unique style. You'll note that he's specifically mentioned to be "skilled" as a mage. Thereby, I don't think it's a stretch for a skilled Conjurer to do much the same with Stone and develop some unique way to bend stone about their axe--however useful that may prove. As far as crafting a workable axe from stone on demand using that same uniquely developed magick. My thoughts on that would be that it's -possible-, but would instantly put your character's magical prowess beyond skilled as it follows that it takes a skilled mage just to coat a weapon in lightning then to craft one wholly from an element would take just as much skill if not more.

It's possible. Both are possible. People without the echo or the blessing of light have slain primals before. With that being said, the ways in which they accomplished this were creative, and even then resulted in the loss of life and/or tempering of a great portion of the assaulting party. Summoners are possible as well, you needn't be the personal slayer of the primal, just close enough to it when it was slain that you felt its aether wash over you and could attune to it. In other words, the lore doesn't restrict you from being one outright, but if you want to play by the lore and be a summoner it does automatically decide some factors for your character. Namely, the power-level of your character will be on the high-end. Your characters magic will usually draw attention and awe if not terror from the ill-informed. Finally, your character needs to be old enough and have had enough time to have reasonably mastered a highly complex ancient art as well as been there at the site of one or (multiple) of these slayings.

TO THE SKY! Who are we OOC'ly? The Lemieux Skytrade Co. is a mature, heavy-roleplaying Free Company on the Balmung server. The Sky Pirate theme has, in this case, been linked with a mercantile focus under the premise of additional commerce outside of their 'reacquisition and distribution' racket. While the official take of privateering should be considered legal ICly (i.e. accosting bandits, tomb raiders, illegal pirates, enemies of states, Garlean ships, and so on) there is a dubiously lawful underbelly suited well to the eco-political terrain of Aldenard. While main storyline events for the company will undoubtedly involve adventuring and swashbuckling, this Company also encourages slice of life roleplaying to strengthen existing bonds and forge new ones through our tavern and inn. Usually ICly in the form of daily roleplay, levequests, and themed events. *We have a no tolerance policy in regards to severe out of character drama and breaking the Square Enix Code of Conduct or Terms and Conditions, the former of which can and the latter of which will definitely lead to an immediate ban and blacklisting. *Applying characters should be abiding to the lore and will be gauged on a case by case basis by our interviewing officers who will offer constructive criticism. Who are we IC'ly? Tristanaud Lemieux, native Ul’dahn and experienced pirate, has come into a sum of money with which to fund his dream of establishing his own trading company and privateering racket based out of Thanalan. Alongside his two loyal companions, Quartermaster Wicked Crow of Radz-at-Han, and Navigator Hidaka no Yugao adopted scholar of Sharlayan, Captain Lemieux is looking to mold himself into something of a merchant prince with the establishment, not only of his physical trading business, but a standing tavern and inn geared towards savory and less savory types alike by utilizing the headquarters in which his ship(s) dock. His work is dubiously law-abiding by nature, skirting the line of legality by traversing the Ul’dahn economical structure with which he is familiar. To the necessary officials across Eorzea and beyond, Lemieux’s Skytrade Company is a group of specialists from diverse backgrounds, in the business of reacquisition, restoration, and redistribution through experienced use of their aerial contraptions. The Manticores, called such after their flagship, know themselves to be opportunists of all kinds, criminal or just, that have come together beneath their fearsome colors in search of the fortune and freedom to be found in the skies.

There's nothing I know of that makes storing a person's soul into an item -not possible.- With that being said, manipulating souls in the Aetherstream seems to be reserved for very powerful beings like the Elementals, or White Mages working very closely with them. We also see an uber experienced Alchemist dedicate years to bringing someone long since gone, and he's successful... briefly. So with that said, I would say it's possible but... you'd need to adjust the power level of whoever is performing this to be on par or above those people I just mentioned. Near legendary power levels.

My tribal Seeker would give your character -so- much shit for turning back on the traditions of your people. All IC, of course. Rock on man, do what you want.

Hey this is Zagi'zi! I took a stab at answering these in-game! Manari's pretty on the ball! But seriously, do that Postmoogle quest. Such juicy lore. Juicy, juicy.

I'm a big fan as well. And I hope this is a sign of events to come. The only thing I can add that others haven't or isn't obvious is there were 12 NPCs at the end in that circle. Twelve NPC's. The Twelve. Break the meta!

That there is a can of worms you don't want to open. Trust me, it never goes well. It goes well sometimes. But, Amelia, yes, you're wrong. The Padjals aren't bringing WHM back like JT. In fact, quite the opposite... they're very distrustful of you, and everyone else for that matter. They safeguard the secrets to Succor like if they were nuclear launch control codes. Which they are. Since, you know, whole world got nuked last time people learned willy nilly. The main character of the game, the Warrior of Light is made the exception AFTER A LOT OF PROTESTATION, with a Soulstone loving you up and by then you were a bona-fide, primal slaying, beefcake that lived to protect Eorzea, and had the backing of the three nations.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Sin replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
With the obvious exception of certain strategies like the aforementioned last pull in Wanderer's Palace.... USE THE LB! Nothing bothers me more than staring at an unused full bar for the entire dungeon. It charges back up. Blow it on the first boss, blow it on the second, and blow it on the third. Ask the melee to LB if he's not, do it yourself if there's no melee. Use it! Speed up that run, no need to hold on to it like its precious and we gotta take it to the last boss. Also, sounds like you got trolled by a retard Graeham. -
Hey! Newbie question forgiven as that's the purpose of this thread I think. Alright, so there's a misconception in the question that I need to address. First things first... People can be BLMs and Whms. It can happen. It has happened. In the past there was entire nations of these people walking around. It's not lore breaking to be a BLM or a WHM. So why do lore people frown on it? They frown on it because they are extremely rare. In the case of BLM the art has been largely forgotten, and is in most cases outright illegal, and any spread of its knowledge is -actively- policed. In the case of WHM, it's knowledge is guarded by a race of very very stingy people. They don't want to teach you. Can that be worked around? Yes. In a myriad of ways, a ton. Seriously, only your imagination limits you in how you can explain your character's acquisition of a knowledge long forbidden and forgotten. Why do people still frown at it then? Well, because explaining away how your character got around those limitations is never done for the majority of characters in a satisfactory way. And those characters are never role played in a way that really showcases these jobs as portrayed in the lore. And finally, the desire to adds these characteristics to the character is usually an indicator of poor character building skills, shoving cool-looking things into a character needlessly to make the character more special-- mary sueish and overpowered.
