Well, I suppose I can put my opinion in very simple terms. I think that people should do and organize as they like, original and otherwise; those who are not interested, unimpressed or not keen on the notion have the option to not attend or participate. That's just my mind. The opinions I've seen on here are rather interesting.

I can play as healer if needed; just a different hairstyle and maybe a shave and I can play Berrod as someone else. You can put me down for a healer/DPS/Tank role, depending on if you need anything filled in the moment. Another opportunity to get a likeable character shredded into a bloody mess. Yes.

I think the chance of that happening after they literally dropped a moon on Eorzea is nill. I certainly hope that's the case. It may not be, considering the man responsible for it was considered mad even by the empire itself! Gaius never really struck me as a BAD guy so much as he did a ruthless guy who did what he had to do to reach his goals. I really like how both sides of the conflict are really -grey-.

Funny you should mention that because my friend and I were discussing this from a, "Good lord, maybe they WOULD be better off under Imperial rule...!" perspective.

When I do it, it's usually a matter of the tank -intervening-. We don't do the whole 'everyone attacks the tank' thing. It's more like 'the tank runs and stands between the bad guys and the party, so they have to take him down to get to the rest'.

The bolded bit is exactly why I think they're trying to keep up the impression that they're still alive. An 'attempted assassination' can rouse people just as easily as an actual one, so it's easy to paint the WoL in Nanamo's blood regardless. I figure that they'll wait until they have a firmer grasp on things -- more control. And then announce that she 'succumbed' to her illness/the poison/whatever they're calling it. It's smart, since they'll be in a better position to handle anyone who wants to make something of it. Of course, that's just my thoughts! Eagerly waiting to see where Heavensward takes us.

I believe that cutting IC ties in such a situation is fine. Whether you retcon or not is your choice, it's your right. If you're on the fence about retconning, however -- consider how the having the elements of the other person's story meshed with yours makes you feel. If the memory of them, or things associated with them make you uncomfortable or just irritate you, a retcon may serve you well. If it doesn't bother you so long as you no longer need to interact with the person again, it may do no harm to keep their character in the background story of yours!
