Not going to lie, but when I read this I was a little sad because the few moments with you in-game OOC (or just a wave!) were fun. I don't want to pressure you into staying, but see if the methods above may work for you. Maybe a different class/job will work and you might like tanking once more, even as a WAR. Maybe run even the lower level dungeon content IC disregarding all the lore surrounding it and make it up before and during the dungeons as both Brynn and the RP/Duty thread mentioned. Hell you could kinda make WP fun by doing it with end-game RPers and go "OK BLM if you're gonna go crazy like that I hope you don't die!" /shot (they told me to flare them!!!!) (my lalafell blm would happily die for steel like this if wanted )

This is the type of thing I would really love to try out. I want to do Light and Full party instances/raids RP'd out and mostly in character (though it's probably easier that I can RP both as my main BLM and the more RP-relevant but lower leveled PLD).

Thank you Erik for your response! I think most people who've RP'd or talked with me have figured out that I really want Kage RP'd as a Paladin. However, I haven't completed the MSQ (only lvl 34 now) nor have I gotten into many of the side quests that seem to delve into the story of Ul'dah, its politics, the Sultanate, the Syndicate, and the Sultansworn. I've read through the quest dialogue on xivdb(?) but I still feel like my knowledge is lacking. So I figured that asking people who RP as paladins, free or Sultansworn, really would help me find my way about it as well.

Kage grimaced and gave Natalie a small apologetic look. He turned to tell Aya, "Company at the Quicksand is never -too- hard to find I'd say. It's finding the right one that may be a problem and I hope you think we are." He scratched the back of his head with one hand before bringing it down his face. For a lalafell, he sure had a big foot to stick in his big mouth. "I'll get us some peanuts, devilled eggs, and stuffed cabbage." Kage turned to look around Quicksand, noting that it was bustling with activity but he didn't know many of the people personally. He wished that the ale could give him the courage to, but alas, he still couldn't do it.

Kage ran through unfamiliar territory, trying to commit to muscle memory how to use sword and shield. It was different; the weight of the armor he wore and the weight of the weapons he carried in his hands. These were not the goldsmith tools his father used nor were they like the staves that his mother tried so hard to make him adore. The heavy armor was not the soft weight of the robes he used to wear, but it was starting to feel strangely comforting. "One day... One day I hope to be ready." He said out loud, casting his gaze around himself. He found a group of Sandworms starting to swarm around a lone figure and a yellow feathered beast, a chocobo! As Kage squinted his eyes, he could see that the figure turned out to be a female thaumaturge, trying to run away while trying to fend the sandworms of with some Fire. Kage drew his sword and shield, before he provoked and lobbed his shield at one of the sandworms closest to her. As he threw himself into the fray, he flashed the sandworms several times and retrieved the shield he threw. "I'll hold them here! Just try to help cover me a tiny-" The lalafell stopped as he saw that she was running away, happy to leave him. "OOMPH!" He had to turn his attention back to the group of sandworms, whose ire and attention he had drawn, as he was knocked into the air and crashed into the chocobo that was left behind. He looked into the chocobo's eyes and got right back to his feet before engaging the sandworms, giving it all he got. "Augh!" Kage fell to his butt and then flopped onto his back, after he finally downed the last of the sandworms. He hurt now and he was sure it would hurt tomorrow. He closed his eyes wiping sweat off his forehead before he noticed that it was a little cooler than before. "Wark!" Kage opened his eyes, straight into the eyes of the chocobo that was left behind. "What, you didn't follow her?" "Kweh!" Kage scrambled to his feet, stepping on something rather hard under his feet. "Ow!" He bent down and lifted his foot to see what he had stepped on. It was a whistle. "Wark!" Kage turned to look into the chocobo's eyes. The whistle laid ontop of an open palm before he closed his fist around it. "You might want to keep onto this, my feathered friend." He moved to put it in the chocobo's bags that were attached to its saddle but it turned so that he couldn't. "Wark!" "What, why won't you take it?" The chocobo stared down at Kage as the lalafell's eyebrows furrowed. He scratched at his goatee, not understanding what was going on. "Kweh!"

I honestly don't know if they haven't tried it before or if they just haven't checked it out. But they had 2-3 dps on the MT while they said I whale away on the OT. Some of those who PUG and clear T4-T5 mentioned it was possible that they weren't doing it in order (but not when most of the static was around).

It isn't working out well at all. I don't know what the best order for them is either. They don't regularly clear T4 and apparently they usually get walled at phase 5 too. I think they usually have 2 PLD, 2WHM, 1 BRD, 1 MNK, 1 SMN, 1DRG/BLM Switch up depending on turn but I think that's their 4 setup. I was just sorta pugging it with them since a few in the static were gone and I guess they decided to let me join

No, never make them split off and dps seperate soldiers. You're gonna wanna focus the first one down that doesn't have the caster absorbing stoneskin on it and move on to the next one together. Never branch off and kill separate things on your own in T4, kill in the assigned order given for your group comp. That's the thing. The group essentially split us two BLM up onto both soldiers (me on the OT the other on the MT). I was told to go to the OT's soldier.

This is the worst thing in the world of RP and for myself... but honestly Kage came out of my wanting to try something new. I obviously didn't think I'd RP because I probably would have been named Kakageru Yuyugeru but no... He's still very much a work in progress but I'm basing how he acts mostly around how I would react. He isn't -me- but it gives me the easiest basis to work with, without having had to actually build a character before wanting to RP him. Upcoming arcs will most likely be his most defining character builds... but he certainly had time to develop while his friends were in trouble. ><

I actually don't know what ilvl my FC's OT was but I popped all my CDs during the first DN. For first wave bugs I drew aggro but I figured it's not that bad considering we were all grouped for AOEs and healing anyway. Plus I was told to flare bomb and so did the other BLM until we told him to go DRG. I did draw aggro on the wave 2 Soldier but I didn't pay attention to that and just let the OT do his thing while I worked on it. Should the two magic (if there are two) be separated? What are the best potions to use to regain MP at this point? My group seems to always be stuck at wave5-6 if anything. I know some have cleared it when PuGing and looking into other strats but I think they've only cleared T4 once as mostly a "static"

Thank you for the strats! Annnd sorry this turned into HALP BLM IN COIL. I know you suggest not to flare bomb because of the aggro, is Wave 2 on a timer or is it set to when you drop all the bugs? Because my group just told me to flare bomb it. Also, for Wave 6 why would you kite it versus letting one of the tanks kite them?

I would gladly take the privilege to have you carry me Erik! Also Erik would be the first hyur to do so. I've been emote carried by Miqo'te this whole time! I think /diceroll would greatly improve upon RP experience. I understand some who don't use it but I do so like to have that RNG in place... No matter the fact that RNG hates me.

Not quality of life but really just to add lots of fun... I am thoroughly convinced that characters should be able to pick up Lalafells and carry them (ala Raubahn and Nanamo) on their arms or shoulders. Also, for them to be able to pick up the Lalafell and chuck them into the air via Biggs and Wedge. Of course, there needs to be an emote or something that will get consent from both characters to prevent griefing but it'd be awesome. Just as much, a hug emote would be nice (still involving consent action). Something quality of life: Setting on how items are lotted but I think they said that they're relying on players to pre-agree before starting/continuing. Preferably in-chat. And then it would be established they knew full well that people are greeding etc and will be punished when reported.

I think I'm going to go with "PST for RP. May or may not be IC" until there's a better option (like I get my RP outfit *cough*) I'm usually doing lots of OOC things for most of the day so I feel putting such a symbol would be problematic but I also do drop things very fast if something is going on. I don't want to accidentally forget to change status ;

Some updates with Kage. It's now become known to a few of Kage's friends that while he's told many of them that he used Goldsmithing to help make ends meet as an in-training Gladiator... he's studied relentlessly under his mother into the black magicks. His father's family is indeed a line of Goldsmiths but his mother's family has all dealt with thaumaturgy and some black magic. While he wasn't 'forced' to become a black mage, he had found it unfulfilling to live life as one. This is why we see him now training to become a Paladin so that one day he may be like the awesome Papashan. None of Kage's friends cared much but for the fact that he's not a liability in case a couple of them find themselves in danger. Kage will soon start to face his own trials, getting several steps closer to being sworn. Hopefully. Having lived life without a real purpose, it slapped him in the face when he saw papashan.

I'm a little in the same boat. At first my character was only being RP'd as Gladiator/Paladin but I decided to incorporate my main BLM and GSM. This... makes for interesting times where I either do continue to RP or /say ((Sorry I'm OOC right now)). I currently don't have something I would call my "RP outfit" but I hope to have it planned out that I will have it when my paladin hits 50. I may consider putting it in my Search Info... or PST to Check if IC.

He glanced around, still not seeing his other Miqo'te friends and unwisely choosing to tease Natalie he continued. "Nat you seem to work just fine I don't think you need any tips. I mean there's C'kayah, Salem, Cho, Marrow, Rahvi, Lambert..." Kage grinned unabashed before he shook his head. Abruptly he stopped as he realized he hadn't eaten before drinking. "If you let me know, I will also grab a snack or two. I'm feeling like eating a devilled egg or two." He smiled at the others and waited to see if anyone wanted anything. "Perhaps we should grab a table instead of crowding Momodi's bar counter too..." ((Even in game I want to eat! D: ))

All right thank you! I hope it's now just a matter of my gearing up so that I can actually be of use. The last few tries, I had issues where I was on 1st soldier going to the other or right as the first dread popped and.... thinking the soldier died (targeting was off) and then my tank saying "soldier's not dead yet" It had been a wall of not getting the first dread down before Rook or getting smashed by the 2nd and 3rd Dreads.

Yay! More lalafell! <3 If you're ever in Quicksand while I am and I'm not busy I'd totally be up for saying hi. Or just hi in a /tell.

There are a few judging people out there but I would say that if you're set on trying to RP as Lio then I won't begrudge you. I'd say just find like-minded RPers (however few or many there may be) and ignore those that would just as likely ignore your RP. If they don't like it, then they should not RP with you and just ignore you.

Welcome Yuvah and I hope you enjoy RPC as well as FFXIV. If I'm free and available (I still do quite a bit of non-RP stuff with and for friends), I'd be happy to RP with you if your character is in Ul'dah. When IC (or not I need an RP outfit) Kage spends a lot of time in Quicksand. Who knows, maybe Yuvah and Kage will have a common interest and he shall invite her to a LS that is both OOC and IC). I'm always interested in talking with friendly people to plot (or not) and have a good time. I'm not very experienced with big Linkshells or FCs that are big for RP but I hope you have fun!

I ended up going along with my FC friends to T4. Oh was that a thing. They're currently still usually getting walled a little bit by it so while I did feel a bit bad by how much I (probably) am not contributing as BLM I didn't feel like a failure. Flare bombs in the beginning I can definitely do those! Sometimes we DPS the first Dread right in time as the Rooks fall and quite a few times it didn't. I popped Thunder, Raging Strikes, Quelling on it asap. For the 2nd Dread I was told as BLM to stay on that one and let one of our tanks kite the others as I stay on Dread, finish it as the other pops, and then help finish the tank kiting soldiers. Is this what I should be doing or should I be doing something more? I don't have Virus (we had a WHM and other BLM popping it on Dread) but that's my next cross class in the works at lvl 4 when I'm not working on my paladin.

*returns from tin can armor to make a note* We do strive to keep everyone in the LS invited or connected in some way IC. Talk with us IC in Quicksand, have a drink or two, be a good friend to Momodi's establishment and we should be just fine~ I think. You never know. Someone might have just stolen a small coin and linkpearl while we weren't paying attention. While still being nice to Momodi. No longer in the linkshell.
