Tentatively signing Arblis up for ©! My own schedule remains mildly mysterious at all times, but perhaps I can make that one.
-
Given that my character has loudly proclaimed "I need to practice spycraft!", this seems like it might be worth a shot! Is there a time of day you're easy to contact during?

After reading through the thread, this post here covers a lot of how I feel about walking up! When it comes to people who are not currently doing RP at the moment I observe them, I pretty much always check search info and FC info (my fingers have become incredibly quick at this) and since there's very little space there, what you choose to put in it is VERY important to me. Here's an example of the kind of search comment I rarely ever get interested in: M / D / Para RP Tells / walk-ups Currently: IC This tells me almost nothing. What style of RP you're into becomes readily apparent just in how you write your character, I've been burned lots of times by "tells and walkups welcome!" being a complete lie that I don't care about the second line, and the status indicator in the third only tells me you forgot to change it back or you're afk or something. And none of it is about who your character is, or prompts someone could be curious about! Here's an example of an "Okay but still not ideal" search message. Also it's the one I usually have up: (( RP yeah! Interrupt me! )) Infinitely Curious Explorer I think specifically asking people to interrupt me while I'm mid-RP is clever, because it pre-empts a 'what if she's in this 1on1 scene and I'd just be disrupting her' thought. Of course, it's still a lot of that 60chr space taken up for not much. The other part at least gives some idea of what sort of things the character could be lured into a scene with, and a hint of reputation. Even though that's my own thing, it's still not the kind of search info that gets me to walk-up most often. Though I might mark down the name and description in case I ever need a Courier / DRK Trainer / Fence / whatever you are. The search comments that add the most to my "Gumption To Walk-Up" meter are like the ones ExAtomos wrote above- quirks or traits that make me immediately curious, or just interested in kicking off a silly little one-shot scene. Stuff like: Stares intently at anyone who walks by carrying food Being trailed by curious bats Obviously oiled his muscles before going out --- AND THAT'S JUST EFFECTIVE SEARCH COMMENTS! So I should get back to the actual question: What wakes me walk up? Records show that the biggest commonality between people I've done walk-up RP at is that they were brooding and staring out over a cliff. Especially when I see this out in the world! Now, I can't say that's a surefire way to summon walk-up RP because holy crap who's gonna even find you out there, but it's what's drawn me in most often! A lot of the other stuff is based on my character's nature. She's an unrepentant eavesdropper and she absolutely loves stories. If I see someone on the street is telling a story to their friends, there's a good chance I'll butt in and appreciate the heck outta that story. And because my character is not very sneaky and really enjoys trying to get inside people's heads, she will rarely have an eavesdropping session that doesn't end with her busting into the conversation with perfect timing and unwanted 'advice' The eavesdropping thing leads in to one other style of walk-up I try to do once in a while- and that's that Arblis will occasionally try to bully the toughest person in the room in a social situation. "It's great practice for digging in to someone's mind, and if I screw it up, it's also great practice at running away!" I like walk up rp. But it's really exhausting to initiate. I'm secretly not actually a very social person.

Woah wait I never posted in this thread? I am a horrible person. I love doofy faces so much~ Exhibit 1:

Arblis' hecksguard name would be Spinning Dune. When I was having fun with character creator nonsense and making her as every race a while back, I also gave them names because why the heck not. This is also when I realized that dang, roe are pretty gosh darn hot.

balmung Noirzea - Eorzean Noir using Fate-14 - Sign up thread
Chompie replied to Nihka's topic in Chronicled Events
Arblis Ellhis, General Reservemember! I'm pretty sure I can't do either of the sunday events, and New Bloom fits my schedule better than anything else but is full. The Otherworldly Mediator is on-call, ready to assist! -
I play a character who deliberately tries to place herself forward as the protagonist of almost any story. Most of the time, she'd prefer to do something about whatever event is going on than wait for the real hero to show up. She tries to twist any situation into a grand struggle between Arblis' Viewpoint and The Forces Of Things That Aren't Arblis' Viewpoint. She does often become- from an outside perspective- the protagonist of a story. But this also opens up more stuff- rivalries and hostilities, insecurities and suspicion when a plot advances without her, that sort of thing. It's a hell of a tough balance to make, though. Playing a character who so strongly sees herself as The Important One is at odds to actually playing nice and making sure everyone can contribute and have a fun RP time. So uh yes, I believe it is possible for there to be Protagonists in RP. And that they do not have to detract from fun.

Disaster! SE just ruined your headcanon!
Chompie replied to Warren Castille's topic in RP Discussion
I am actually having trouble thinking of headcanons of mine they could snap with a well-placed lorebomb. A lot of the handwavey stuff I've put together has been about aetherology, and generally when it comes to aether stuff, SE's approach seems to be "Does it at least loosely fit in to the basic rules and stuff we've used? GOOD ENOUGH, doesn't have to be perfect! Aether can do anything!" I guess there are a couple bombs they could drop that would give me a headache. - A sudden major loredrop about mistakes in novice aether use: not likely and would probably mess me up - Word that, actually, even though Eorzea is steeped in aether, ludicrously few people can even use it to make a sharp thing hit harder. Whatever, we can all be snowflakes. - SE abruptly decides that Aether Stuff is actually nothing like electrodynamics at all. It's all stuff that would be a pain in the ass, but wouldn't really cause irreparable damage to my character. -

Arblis, who definitely was not the one who sabotaged the hammers of western thanalan due to their obnoxious noise and is certainly not returning to the scene of the crime, will sign up for Where the Hammer Fell! -
Quite often I'll see search comments or Connections posts that say someone is "Looking for Storyline" and... Honestly, I have no idea what that means. Apparently it's one of those things like "Walk ups welcome" that actually means something different for each person. Or maybe there's some unified consensus for what it means that I'm just not aware of! Far as I can tell, Looking for Storyline ends up meaning any of the following: - Looking for people to play side characters in my character's story I've got written - I need villains for my character's story to continue - I want someone to be the hero for my character's things - Looking for a storyteller running a big complicated plot/canon for me to join - I want to join in and affect how your character develops - I'd rather develop my character via the initiative of others, if that's okay - Seeking a Linkshell or FC but didn't want to be obvious about it - I want a group of friends where things actually happen and characters grow - I don't know what I want And that's on top of everyone's different preferences and beliefs about canon interpretation, healing and consequences, random elements, what constitutes lore plausibility... I guess what I'm saying is that if you're Looking For Storyline, I don't really know what you mean! Why not post some details here if you've been storyseeking in the past, or if you currently are! Please? I want to understand.

balmung Any active seeker of the sun tribes around?
Chompie replied to merinis's topic in Chronicled Connections
Ha! This thread caught my eye and I thought "oh you know what, I should reccommend that GOAT tribe" buuuut Evaleigh already did! So I guess all I'm adding here is supporting claims that N'khai is great and you should send him a hello~ -
You are an eternal hero amongst mere mortals!

Arblis.. doesn't really have a good grasp on the meanings of honor and duty and loyalty. But speaking by actions, she's extremely loyal to Rendezvous. Much of her time is spent trying to fix every single problem anyone of Rendezvous could possibly have- even the ones who don't host and just do little things in the background. Anything that poses a threat to them is something she just can't abide. Miss Maia's noble group will not be harmed by anything. I think that about covers it all for her. I mean, everyone is loyal to their friends in some capacity, so an average amount of loyalty to em isn't really worth mentioning~

Come to the host club! Pick a personable dork to talk with! Order fancy things! Give us opportunities to improve our RP skills by trying to write food porn that sounds as good as the menu pictures look! I'm not quite there yet, but gosh darnit I TRY when I get a good chance! So come to the Host Club and have fun with RP! oh god i need onion soup now

Break out your Berserkers, it's Four Job Fiesta time!
Chompie replied to Kellach Woods's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Oooh I didn't even think to look for a RPC thread on this! Chaos Mode is my jam, but maybe it shouldn't be, cause... Berserker / Berserker / Summoner / Samurai This is... a very boring team. Last year I had Berserker / Berserker / Summoner / Ranger and that was really *miles* more interesting. Like, Samurai is great. I never realized just how ridiculously strong Gil Toss is- and it's difficult not to just press it in every fight and obliterate everything. Even though I have Summoner, whose jobe is to press a button and nuke everything. And it's so strong it's even good for saying goodbye to bosses! But it's not the most interesting job to play around with. I miss !Animals But hey, I'm already in Act 2, maybe I'll not only complete this run, but have the gumption to do another one! And maybe I won't get two berserkers! ha ha ha laughter -
Half a week earlier than this post was written... "Right you are, miss! It's always a pleasure to help such a well-established Free Company. I look forward to you submitting its name to our records!" The clerk made a professional bow, though the effect was slightly spoiled by him adding "When you know what it'll be" in an amused undertone. He stood back up in time to see Arblis wave and skitter out of the office. That was the last of it, she hoped. Both of the impediments and the money. Money was always annoying to take care of - scams to avoid, proper prices to be researched and danced around, bluffs and bribes and negotiating... Arblis smiled to herself. She'd spent enough to even get someone else to do the paperwork "correctly" for her! Sure, it had taken the entirety of the huge windfall she'd had a moon or two ago, plus her own savings that had been sitting around gathering dust- but it was worth it, to have the whole thing done right. Though she wondered, what would the clip-tails name themselves? That was going to be very important. ----- The blazing desert sun beamed down upon the roof where Arblis lay, sprawled out lazily across tile and stone. She was fairly certain the wait was going to kill her. Uncountable piles of gil spent buying this plot in the Goblet, getting paperwork waved away, caravan hired, officials bribed- and yet she was still the one stuck here waiting for the supply delivery. A flicker of doubt crossed her mind, and she instantly bashed it away with a thump of her fist against the roof. "If I am going to rescue dozens of people from a tyrant and spirit them away, I'm gonna bloody do it right!" she defiantly proclaimed to the sky. "No boring wait will stop me, not when I'm this close!" "Get outta here, you godsdamned cat!" Arblis flinched and peered over the edge of the building. A midlander with a thin moustache, a clipboard, and a disapproving expression honed by decades of annoyance was leering up at her from the front yard. She stared at him a moment, looked over to the chocobo-led cart now parked outside the plot, and put the clues together. "Don't give me that, I hired you! Been waiting all day for you to show up!" The man gives her an unimpressed look. "I'm half a bell early. I could come back later." Arblis leaps off the roof, landing lightly on the ground and pretending she heard nothing. "WELP, let me show you where I want to hide the food, then I'll help unload everything..."

Well this is interesting! I don't think I can reliably make the time for A/B/C, and Arblis does not have sufficient motivation to go to the D side at this moment. I may have to just set myself aside as a Maybe General Reserve for this round. D:

Hmmm. That's a tough one. Just going with mildly obscure side characters, probably... - Q'yantaa - Ba Go Alternate answer: Nashu and Jandelaine and Sidurgu! The unbeatable dream team!

Okay, I can't think of a shady channel Arblis would take a shady request from unless she was convinced it was for JUSTICE! So I will sign up for the openly Shady-Justice Brass Blade Bullies on the Horizon! -
[Periodic] Lucy Leaf's Loose Leves (A Fate-14 event thread)
Chompie replied to Nihka's topic in Chronicled Events
Why, I have a character who enjoys Exploration and Combat and A.. ants? Mine's only a tentative signup though- I'm not certain I'll be able to get that part of the day clear ( weekends and 9-11pm Eastern are my iffy-zones and Ant Party falls into both of them D: ) I'll happily stand aside for someone who's 100% certain they can be there for it -
Thursday the 26th actually works better for me than Tuesday the 24th. Yay luck! Arblis Ellhis double-confirmed for the new event date for The Murderous Ones
-
Arblis is bound by duty to help with C. However, she has absolutely no concept of duty and I am tentatively signing her up for b) The Murderous Ones. Curiosity always leads.

I get really huffy about scheduling. Everything that goes wrong about it just makes me turn into a childish brat. Everything. Even me missing times I scheduled, for my own reasons. Oh my gosh I do this same thing for so many different things D: "Oh god I can't show up not after I missed last time, nope I'll just miss this one too, that's easier than everyone going 'where were you?' maybe tomorrow I'll be braver" Board game nights, friendships, college classes back then...

A scuffing noise. A short whoosh. A hiss that quickly fades away to nothing. Scuff. Whoosh. Hisssssss... There was something soothing about the sound of each grain of sand falling back to the earth, their chorus tapering off into silence as the last few specks return to land. Scuff. Whoosh- Arblis opened her eyes just in time for a stray gust of wind to blow the plume of sand she'd kicked up back into her face. She added a yelp and an array of spitting sounds to the otherwise peaceful early evening air. It was dusk, just one sun left before the expedition departed- the perfect time for brooding. She stared back toward Forgotten Springs from a mere hundred yalms away out in the sands. Ever so reluctantly, she was beginning to like the place, even though it reminded her of her own tribe. Much of the same atmosphere, well-meaning souls sprinkled here and there, and the same sort of deeply flawed values and disdain and long-lasting prejudiced little feuds and thoughtless followers and braggarts with no real accomplishment and-- Arblis shook her head. It's not their fault. She sifted through the wreckage of her train of thought as her ears kept watch, twisting to hear the skittering and burrowing of tiny creatures escaping the oncoming chill of night. Her thoughts inevitably drifted back to her tribe. All that traveling and she'd never bothered to find out if they had survived the Calamity. But they were awful. But... The visored turban she'd unconsciously been spinning around on one finger the whole time rotated to a gentle stop as she looked directly at it. In a last-ditch attempt to make up her mind, she spoke her thoughts aloud. "I can't decide whether I'm better off knowing or not, but... If I do run across them, at least I can stop 'em from knowing it's me unless until I'm ready." A smile quickly found its familiar spot on her expression. "And even if they are still around I probably won't run into them and it's been so long that there's no way they'd recognize me because I probably look a lot different! Ha! No problems!" The Seeker scuttled back toward Forgotten Springs before she could change her mind about that.

I agree so much that I already have a few screenshots from when I stumbled across it! http://imgur.com/a/ouGKl I absolutely LOVE coming across RP happening in all the hidden little nooks and crannies everywhere. In fact, I need to get in the habit of running around exploring IC more often, because too often it's when I'm burned out of RP for the day that I spot em. I try to be a Random Encounter for those I spot when I can, though. No dramatic cliff with a gorgeous view is safe from a Nosy Catgirl attack! A few places I've run into IC stuff happening: - The Forgotten Knight - Hall Of Whatever Heavenly Most Knights Official Place Upstairs - Minotaur Malm - Nald's Reflection - Thal's Respite - Burnt Lizard Creek - The Weeping Saint - Various unmarked cliffs, i'm so sorry if you were trying to have a romantic time, I am the rudest
