  1. I'm gonna be the Voidsent Activist here. OOC, people are more likely to accept Voidsent Nonsense than anything else highly unusual. Let's look at your choice of disapprovals: 1. Disapprovers go "ugh, voidsent again? really?" and either deal with it or go on their merry way. 2. Disapprovers go "The lore doesn't WORK like that! Excuse me while I ridicule you to all of my friends or derail everything with a long OOC argument" If you want to do something weird, calling it voidsent just plain makes your life easier. You get labeled as someone who just doesn't get it, who isn't worth the effort to correct. And the people who were already going to accept the concept and have good RP with you? They will keep their eye-rolls to themselves and probably still do it. So I guess it's a question of how wide circles you RP in are! Small set of friends, or FC where everyone's on the same page? Doesn't matter what the Source of Weirdness is. Wider companies/linkshells, or public RP? Call it voidsent, save yourself some hassle. It is BECAUSE people are sick of it that it's a good choice. (Okay I got a bit off the original topic and onto 'why Voidsent is a more popular source of strange things than anything else in lore')
  2. Finding the trail of a missing child is right up Arblis' alley. According to herself. >_> Arblis for Missing Child in Silver Bazaar!
  3. Ah heck I love scribbling up stuff like this~ Character Name: Arblis Ellhis
  4. This is absolutely the most important thing about feeling dead-ended! Too many times over the years I've seen people toss aside characters for the wrong reasons. Sometimes many times from the same person! Part of it is figuring out what kind of storyteller you are. Do you write better in shorter, fully-wrapped-up tales? Then sometimes a good "and they were whatever ever after" and a character change is the right answer. Do you write better as an ever-changing reacting thing? Do you love being the person who adds a little flavor to other people's RP even if you're not involved? and so on- Figuring out what you like and what you're not liking is harder than it sounds in theroy, ha. X3
  5. After incredibly careful calculation against all odds, sign Arblis up for the Lost Drakes.
  6. The XIV lore is interesting to me because there's a whole lot of really cool possibilities, mysteries we don't understand, and crazy implications to adapt to. Every bit of lore-bending I do is because of the implications and grey areas of the lore, not in spite of them. The lore really does not cover everything we'd like it to. Hell, having any details at all about your miqo'tribe is probably considered lore-bending by the strictest definition. I mean, it's not IN the lore. But maybe it's plausible. Aether is a giant mess of things that don't quite all fit together right, but goddamnit I'm gonna write as if it's a thing that DOES make sense and pull from several spread out sources and just desperately hope that I'm getting the right idea that could possibly be extrapolated from those few disparate npc quotes somewhere. If I break the lore, it's out of perfectly understandable hubris.
  7. Our pleasure to have you! Thank you so much for coming~
  8. It is impossible for me to not be hype about Host Club aaaaaaaa~ Just a friendly reminder here that Quetzalcoatl is the best host you could possibly pick! I don't have any bias, I'm just stating facts, like the helpful person that I am!
  9. They create a stereotype for other catgirls to overcome/agonize about. I guess what I'm saying is that I enjoy the suffering. I support this button push. This button push would make me feel less weird like "am spending too much time writing body language oh god oh god I'm the worst" I would push the button and... well actually I'm not entirely sure what I want. People would put relevant things in their search notes. No more "Walk ups welcome!" on people who don't welcome walk-ups. No more vague acronyms that tell nothing. Instead, more things like "Eorzea's fastest courier" "Infamous gadgeteer" etc. More people would be cool with their characters being capable of failing. More people would be okay with writing combat together without /random. So that I could practice it more and get better at it. More people would be comfortable with exchanging whispers about upcoming actions '(( Hey, my character is gonna try and pick yours up if that's okay ))' Little things, I guess.
  10. If you like, Arblis, I can put you on the reserve list~ Sometimes people don't show, or have to cancel! Sure thing! Though I'm more of a reserve-reserve, I have no idea til maybe the day-of whether I'd be able to make any of the three times
  11. Woah, dang that was fast! Good luck to everyone who's in this round, then! I hope you all have awesooooome~
  12. Arblis has plenty of pleasures she doesn't feel guilty about. Eavesdropping. Picking fights. Sweet treats. But she will swear up and down that she does NOT gossip, no, not ever, not at all. Did you hear Flamedancer's boyfriend fell in love with an Allagan repair module? I MEAN I DONT GOSSIP YOU HEARD NOTHING
  13. Vigilante Apprehends Culprits of Museum Heist, Artifacts Still Missing Or perhaps if it's a very, very slow news day- Serial Personal-Space Invader Strikes Again Those wacky gosh darn newspapers!
  14. If I see you around, I'll try to find a reason to butt in! I've recently discovered that my character gets grumpy around do-gooders ( "You're doing it wrong!!" ), so there could be some excellent potential for a goofy scene! On the other hand... excellent food is the best friendship offering in the world. I find it particularly funny that this image is from a nocookie source.
  15. Wicked William Wolf won't be woeing willagers wonce wm wo Okay, that got out of hand real fast. Arblis Ellhis is down for taking on Woes of the Wascally Wolf
  16. The possibilities are endless! Dashing Dilettante Edgy Explorer Flighty Fighter or if you're feeling a bit unkind: Hyperactive Hellion
  17. This is pretty easy one to get around! Not everyone's a gossipmonger, but most characters will at least have something to say if asked about an acquaintance! You could write rumors like they were responses to questions such as... "Have you seen X anywhere lately? What's she been up to?" "Hey, I was told to get in contact with X, do you know them?" "Have you seen a little girl? Short, black hair? Just turned seven last month?" "What can I learn about X for a modest sum of gil?" Doesn't cover everything, but I'm sure you can finagle some way to have your character add rumors!
  18. Rumors are like, 60% of the reason I made a wiki page. They're so entertaining and lovely and wonderful. They're fun to write, they're fun to read, they're fun to share! And perhaps most important of all, they're something that can spark in-character interactions, which really should be the whole point of a profile page! RUMOURRRRS  ( Hello! Hypocrite speaking here. I actually get terrified and second-guess myself every time I'm about to add a rumour to someone's page. Ha! )
  19. Woah! I'm pretty sure every race but Miqo was in single digits last census a couple weeks ago. That's a sudden surge in lizard population! Statistics are fun!
  20. Oh woah! That's super awesome excellent that you managed to make it over to Balmung! Good luck on your hunting, and maybe I'll run into you at some point!
  21. I would LOVE to be able to claim the fame for that one, but.. not a lancer Arblis gotta step up her troublemaker game, I didn't realize there was such a pro around!
  22. This bit in particular, I just HAVE to comment on- I think that body language and other such 'fluff emotes' in the midst of a conversation are SUPER important. They help with scene continuity, they give a better idea of who a character is, they can make awkward silences feel more purposeful, and they add that little bit of uncertainty that always comes with communication. If Arblis is kicking her heels against the foot of her chair, what does that mean? Is she nervous? Bored? Thoughtful? Does she even realize she's doing it? If the other person reacts to it, you have created An Interaction, and that's kind of the whole point of RP, isn't it? Plus it lets you set up expectations and understanding of a character's normal behavior, and by making them notably absent or making little changes to them, companions WILL notice, in a way that's much more organic than just saying '/em looks like she's real tired of all these negotiations.' I'm still a mess over figuring out proper post length though. If a character has a very choppy train of thought, isn't it better to chop up disparate thoughts into separate lines? But that can be annoying because then the other person is already writing a response and you shove another thing in there and that changes things and it's a pain. But maybe it's still the right thing to do because the character is supposed to be kind of annoying and disruptive. But it's still OOC annoying and that's never a good thing to aim for. *emits commiseration rays*
  23. Ever since I first heard vague whisperings of Eorzea's greatest detective setting up shop in the Goblet... I've been waiting for this!
  24. Wow another 'how did I ever miss this' thread! Sometimes I can't tell if I'm doing a bad job or a very good job of roleplaying my character. If some people are an open book, Arblis is a pop-up book with other books stuffed inside; everyone's first impression of her tends to be from a different side, and it can be a bit of a surprise to see the others pop up in the next interaction. Or is that just inconsistent writing? Hard to be certain sometimes. I play a character who sees herself as the protagonist of every story, but in most scenes my reason to play her is to add something to everyone else's day. Again- duality or inconsistency? I think it's a great thing if I can shake up a group, give them something new to talk about or think about, give them more ways to show how each of their characters percieve the world. But to do that, I'm shoving MY character into THEIR story. Arblis tries to steal the show. It's how she is. Sometimes I feel like I should have a macro to whisper "(( It's okay if you try to take the scene back for yourself! Really! ))" Some of that is just.. how a good character comes together! You put together the core of a character, and then they start doing shit you didn't expect of them. It's awesome! Though it's good to remember that Tropes Are Not Bad, and an unusual mixture of tropes, even if they ARE tropes, is still probably not overdone! They're even a huge point of inspiration sometimes! And as for Honus himself, well.. in my incredibly limited time anywhere near him, my impression was 'chirpy cockney sidekick' which is not a bad thing but probably definitely not what you were going for. That said, now I'm SUPER curious to eavesdrop again.
  25. That's a pretty tough question! The first thing I think of when connecting Arblis to Fighting Game stuff is: - Super Armor - Parries But I don't think I know enough fighting games to find a good analogue between those traits and "5-foot Catgirl with a Greatsword" I mean the first Super Armor + Parry character I can think of is Big Band from Skullgirls and uuuuh not quiiiite. >_>
