  1. I am only willing to do combat RP through text and I am more than willing to take losses with or without dices. If you are finding people that godemote their way out of harm for 7hours you just need to find better partners, simple as that. With or without dices, good roleplayers just will not try to screw you over like that. I also feel you had a few bad experiences in say, the quicksand? Where some godmoder tried to make a victim out of your character. That's not a representation of the actual nice people out there that will make an effort out of being fair to your character's abilities just as much as they expect you to do the same. Forcing them to do ooc pvp is noooot that. You will probably find a better audience in another game that support RPVP (BDO, WoW, etc). But here in XIV people mostly do that through text only.
  2. I'm really curious about this one. Are you saying that people who have RP info in their search info tend to be flaky? O_o That's been my experience so far. Perhaps it's unrelated but I began to associate it with people that don't commit too much. I did had a few regulars with them of course but I tend to get dropped by tagged people way more often than those that aren't. I can't exactly explain the science behind it as I'd like to know, myself. Maybe they just have too many people to keep track of. The tags are meant to interact with as many randos as possible, after all.
  3. People that are constantly involved in random drama - Even when they can be right and make good points, their contribution to every big or little argument/feud going on makes me question their motives and levels of toxicity. Community celebrities - It's not true for all popular posters but throughout all the communities I've been into across a few years of RP, I definitely noticed that the bigger names have bigger chances to develop a huge ego. I avoid them unless I find evidence that they are actually nice. Use of RP tags in the search info - I know that this is a little specific but I noticed that people that sports those 'M/[insert length post reference here]/whatever' can really struggle with committing to specific RP partners and completely forget or ignore promises they made to you because they jump from random to random so much they just forget about you in the mix. Not always true, of course and maybe I've simply been unlucky. Still my experience.
  4. I personally stick to the JP version when it comes to canon discrepancies between localizations because it's how the original writers intended it to be. Can't get more lore accurate than that. /Moderator snipped. A portion of this post contains wording which baits retaliatory or defensive responses. -Moderator Sorcini
  5. Sidurgu did it pretty well but then Sidurgu also has the mentor aspect you mention. I don't think trying to tie a Xaela to Ishgard is a problem I think OP is trying to tie his character to many locations/jobs/etc. Like Sounsyy pointed out the timeline seems a little wonky and the locations don't all add up. Sidurgu is an unique case though. It would be very challenging to do the same as he did without..Kinda carbon copying his backstory. Because there weren't many other ways for a Xaela to be involved with Ishgard and live. They'd just kill them. Not saying it's impossible ofc. But I certanly failed in that and maybe OP will find a way. I think it's less stressful to just get a mentor. There's more RP to be had out of it aswell.
  6. I play an Au Ra dark knight and here's my advice: Do not have your backstory revolve around it. Find an IC dark knight that can teach you in a plotline. When you play an unconventional race/job combo, you are taking a very difficult challenge and you just can't take shortcuts. In my opinion, to intertwine a Xaela backstory to ishgard is too much of a stretch and you are going to miss out on a lot of race flavor. I do not mean to discourage you. But as someone that has been burned on the forum for this very question I feel like I should warn you.
  7. Pretty sure void touched is not a thing in lore. It's just something players do to be involved with void magic/creatures while avoiding the blame and consequences that it entails (Death or Banishment from Society).
  8. Just dont act like an ishgardian noble. Please! The culture is VERY different. Look it up.
  9. I had two pre-arranged romances and they were absolutely terrible. The characters did not get along at all and they were only together for meta garbage reasons such as the fact it was arranged ooc. Never again. It was also shallow, as you say. Nothing interesting was happening. Sure it's nice to do the romance itself for a while but it gets old. They actually have to offer something to eachother and I don't think pre-arragements are good for that. You just don't know what character you're getting. I think it's much better if it happens organically after several months of RP. That worked much better for me.
  10. I have social anxiety and have been mistreated heavily in the past so of course I am more inclined to send an ooc tell asking permission than others. Some people have difficulties or special needs that makes it harder for them to do things that are second nature to others, it's kinda unfair to get angry at customs that try to be respectful to you? Damned if you do damned if you don't.
  11. It can be a way to undo unwanted development without an actual retcon, I guess.
  12. You mentioned you need bodyguards so my character could get hired by yours for such a task. I am unsure of how to reach you out in-game or when, so do send me a PM wherever if interested. My character's name is Koro Dotharl.
  13. I'm so hyped for jump potions. I will pay good money to skip the MSQ. Not that it's bad but..Two times were enough.
  14. I do not even consider joining guilds that does not have a strict application to fill in. Open-for-all guilds are always filled with drama and power struggle. One that is more strict actually cares about getting rid of the toxins that some people carry with them, so to speak.
  15. What happens IC stays IC. Racism and whatnot is actually fun to play around with as long as it doesn't bleed into an OOC problem. If it does, it has nothing to do with the RP but with the players themselves.
  16. That's not your fault either. Whatever the truth may be, some people were real jerks about it I hope this doesn't put you off from trying again and that you'll find people to RP with! There are actually a lot of good people in the server.
  17. ~Updates~ Koro have decided to be open about her true origins. From now on she will be known with her true name: Koro Dotharl. She never actually earned a Tumet name and it was just a fake identity to avoid the negative attention her real tribe gets. However, recently developments have convinced her to be open about her true heritage.
  18. ~Updates~ Koro resigned from her guard duty and is now up for grabs for a new side-job and contracts. Keep in mind that I'm busy with my own guild and can't commit to do much other than pure IC interactions.
  19. ~Updates~ Updated Koro's wiki. Berude is dead. Will my next alt last more than a few weeks? Stay tuned to find out!
  20. ~Updates~ Waenlona is dead. One less fem Roe in the world. Little changes and updates to Koro's wiki entry. New wiki entry for my villain: Berude Dotharl.
  21. I do stancedance if the tank can take it but I chose to be an healer, not a DPS. If people are too entitled to respect my pace and play-style I just leave the instance. Good luck finding a new one. Maybe you would have cleared it faster if you didn't have to wait another healer to bark at. If you can't clear the dungeon at an acceptable pace without the healer going cleric you should complain to the DPS people, not to me. When pugging with strangers, nobody cares about what you want or enjoy, so don't worry about them either. Do these amazing heals and if people want -more-, give them less. Let them die or leave the instance, not your fault for healing like you're supposed to. People that force others to play as they do really grind my gears. Especially when the guy's already doing his job but nope.. They want MORE.
  22. ~Updates~ Now a proud member of Aeon! Clarified stance towards the IC channels and combat RP Corrected the timezone Koro has been hired as a part-time guard at the St.Reinette University Created a very basic wiki entry for Koro.
  23. My RP weapon of choice uses the "balmung" model but that's all they have in common: The design. I don't think it is snowflakey to use a weapon with a fancy look. What makes weapons special is their story. I am sure there are RPers with weapons that got a waay fancier story that makes them much more powerful or ancient despite the plain design they may have chose, in contrast with a sword with a rather complex design which only story and purpose being: A piece of metal designed to swing around and hurt people. There are limits however. I wouldn't personally dare to draw a weapon with spell effects unless I have a good IC reason for it (such as having obtained it after a long, perilous plot) because people will inevitably question where and why you got such a powerful artifact. As for the story, claiming something only the warrior of light can posses (such as the original anima weapons) is a big nono. To RP the warrior of light him/herself is also something I advice against. There may only be one and it's none of us. Not outside our own PvE activities where we are supposed to indulge in the power fantasy that the WoL represent. It could work if you get a group for an RP bubble but you wouldn't be able to blend with the rest of the community very well, in my opinion. I personally advice to make a step back and resort to RP with just the echo. Which would still requires an advanced mastery of the lore and a good grasp of the basics of RP. This is just my opinion, mind. If you want to do it, go for it and have fun!
  24. Koro collects the issue upon noticing the words "Xaela" and "Dead" inscribed on the paper. She squint her eyes, struggling to read but eventually grasps the meaning of this grim news. "No matter how great or advanced this society gets, there will still be predators stalking in the night. Hidden among kin. I suppose some things never change." She rest the newspaper back where it was found and leaves the town for a comfortable rock to sleep upon. The double-faced jungle that was known as Ul'dah was ever deceiving in it's fake sense of safety and civilization, but the ruthless wilds never lied about their dangers.
  25. I've felt this anxiety on many occasions as well. I wouldn't say I'm necessarily shy, but I'm a rather quiet and reserved individual who hasn't had much experience with reaching out to others or being the instigator of new friendships. This is part of the reason my FFXIV experience thus far has been about 80-90% solo play and no RP. It's been coupled with my current insecurity about rejoining the community after my long break as I don't really know anyone and have no close friends who may help. I'm an unknown with no reputation (that I know of) so my hesitation in putting myself out there often spawns from that nagging thought of "why would anyone be interested in someone like me with no track record?" But as I don't know effective ways to really get out there in the mix, I have that fear that I'll just be stuck in limbo forever. It also doesn't help my confidence when I do manage to meet people who actively seek me out at first, yet inevitably show me that they have no interest in me or my characters and would rather talk about themself and their own ideas all day while promptly changing the subject when I try to mention anything from my own side. I can understand being proud of one's creation or ideas, but from the perspective of the one who gets silenced repeatedly because of this pride, it flares up the crippling thought that perhaps I have simply nothing to offer anyone. I know that such things are entirely dependent on the types of people I come across, as not everyone is so self-centered, but my luck thus far hasn't helped me at all. This is so much me. Even before leaving I was pretty much unknown by the community and now that I'm back I'm close to invisible and I am uncomfortable when close to someone popular that monopolize the scene (willingly or not). It doesn't help that I have major social anxieties about sending /tells to anyone and approaching new people usually require a monumental effort from me. That's why I don't seek out long-term partners out in the public. It drains me too much to send those /tells and organize things. I'll still do it if I "must" but it burns me out. I'd rather do something more spontaneous like walk-ups and in-FC RP. You are not alone!
