I wouldn't be saying that immediately. Absence of lore isn't fair game for anything. Just that you can wedge stuff in.

I don't think there's another representation of that phenomenon that'd be lore-based.

See if I was trying to sell something on the forums at all times, perhaps I would have worded that differently. You're criticizing tone on a post made entirely out of frustration at reading 9 pages of the same RP tips tossed about without consideration to the people who've said "Yeah, that didn't work for me" - A post that had other posts written after it, one of which even offered a personal addendum to one of those because it actually worked one time for me and even when it didn't, some people scrolled up and one of them hit me up in /tell after the fact. To me that feels like going into the Horrible PUGs thread and saying everyone there I would never RP with because their tone is horrible. Also how would I not read anything into those words, especially after that was done to me with the implication that someone who RPs with literally almost anyone would hesitate in RPing with me? * * * That's the thing though - I know my personal approach style is different. I don't care much for knowing everything OOC about a character - I'll approach them on IC merits that my character has observed at the time or has legitimately heard about. That I can accept and just shrug because that's how I prefer my RP to happen. Rumors are fair game though. (also i'm caving and putting ze wiki in my characters' Player Search - That's certainly a more elegant solution than having "RPer. Adventurer. Student. Caravan Escort. Not from Eorzea." in there.)

OH! I just remembered a thing that may be of help to others who are in the same situation as me - it's an offshoot of showing you're available for RP but it's so strange many people don't do it I find. It also goes with the whole "venture out of Ul'dah" thing but I've been looking over there. FC hotspots are, again, hit or miss because some of them aren't known to the public, or can outright be a bunch of closed groups. DO SOME PVE RP Aka RP with some NPCs I'm not even joking - The fact that you can look at a NPC deadass in the eye and interact with them as though they were a player will certainly show others that you're willing and hungry for RP if you're "sinking" that low. It's a nice hook. In the Quicksand it doesn't work as well than in the other cities (interacting with Baderon/Mother Miounne for example) due to chat auto-scroll and the Quicksand having actual RP opportunities anyway when it's not as full, but Drowning Wench and Carline Canopy for SURE.

Then that's not just walking about - Considering the range of /say and /em I can eavesdrop from quite a bit, and I've never heard of anything happening that I could at least get into due to how insular it is. As I said, at best I can get some thirsty fucks sending me tells on my character's sexiness (in Ul'dah only - hence the sig). I also don't really see /tell as the utmost solution depending on which area you're investigating in. In a sense it works if you're trying to set something up (like further interactions!) but I personally do not like doing it because I feel it ruins the spontaneity of the situation. I like improv more than scripts.

Way I see it : - I'm flagged as a RPer in Examine > Search info (Immediately mention I'm a RPer, and then a couple of words that mention basic themes with my character). I've gotten tells from people finding my character sexy (and one of them subsequently going pls hump your character's crotch against mine), but not anywhere near RPing. - I have a Wiki, it's not linked in my search info because my experience from just having one linked in my sig nobody gives a shit. I also have a problem with integrating out-of-game stuff with in-game personally so that doesn't help. - I've posted lots of character stuff and have heard ALMOST nary a peep from anyone (Jaques made some awesome fanart of a Bulletin Board entry I put up and that is ALL I've heard of it without actively going READ THIS THING in a LS and even then it was as an example of how much an idiot I am). - Walking around has never worked. Like seriously. I do not know what these people who just walk around and get RP actually do but I've tried walking around and getting RP, with a grand total of jack and shit for my troubles. It'd be more efficient getting RP in a goddamn Duty Roulette than walking around. Yes I'm frustrated. Not because I'm not getting RP (I could stand to get more personally but if things are hopping I can get my share) but because every single thing that was posted I have tried and with negative results and more personally because I'm tired of busting my ass to do something and then just not getting feedback or interest from it. Surprisingly enough because I'm heated on the forums, I am a pretty chill dude in-game. I can roll with pretty much everything. I don't know where you people with actual "ins" are, but you aren't where I am. The only thing that did work was complaining OOC on the forums about how much I'm trash at PvE which landed me in a LS and allowed me access to the inner workings of a group of people, which allowed me access to various contacts. Even then there's still a struggle because I'm not affiliated with anyone's plot or FC. Speakin' of, any of you have experience bartering with tonberries?

Keep in mind the originally stated goals and how it's supposed to happen - if only one person is helped, then it's like... what happened to the other FC rep that was with them?

I don't think the event will actually cause anything new to happen, but just might exacerbate already existing problems. 'cause quite frankly if you stick to just wanting to help out I don't think that'll cause anything bad.

Yeah I was actually hesitating on putting that in the post or not - I just think the whole process could stand to be simplified for a better overall event.

Story Plan All right, I can get behind that. But why do you need to hold a summit to do that? Can just post within the current resources. I don't see the need to try and get every FC possible to go along with this. Just "Yo we're at this spot in our FC's story and we want to collaborate with some other FCs" on this forum or in other resources. The goal for this is laudable - I just don't see why you need to hold a summit for it. Settle Issues Again, why can't you use current resources to do that? PF's been used for ALL sorts of unrelated party finding things and Making Connections could easily serve for that purpose. I wouldn't even consider building an airship being part of Settling Issues and more part of Fostering Cooperation. And why limit these to only FCs like you're doing by proposing it at that summit anyway? To me that makes no sense at all. Just the fact that there's Issues to Settle to me seems fishy as all hell when you could just remove that talking point (to be fair, all talking points but Fostering Cooperation because they pretty much mean the same thing with your definitions). To me, it just sounds like you're trying too hard to find problems where there aren't many to justify the position. Foster Cooperation Why not just rename this Sharing Resources because that's the example you give out - If help isn't to come from just resources, that's touched by your other points anyway. Larger Activities Dismissing other people's concerns by saying it's just a optimist/pessimist debate is pretty much the worst thing to happen to this discussion. Just on a functionality standpoint - you're already discussing it in your first point. Why repeat yourself? A lot of these could be rolled together and explained better because they are essentially the same thing. * * * Overall I just don't see it as necessary in the way it's currently being made, but as I said on page 3, w/e. This'll happen whether I'm there or not, and there's absolutely no way I would even get a voice on this. All I can pretty much do is hope that this doesn't fuck over my enjoyment of the RP community.

Yeah - my point with plate was essentially that you're carrying a helluva extra load. The hampered movement wouldn't be so much from the armor itself being clunky but from not being trained to move with it on which, SURPRISINGLY ENOUGH, isn't exactly the most known skill in the world. Kind of if you stuck a strong person with the modern day equivalent. It'd take some time before they can be at 100% while wearing the equipment, but it's no fault of the equipment itself. Also, another funny thing is that NPCs don't wear armor often, even those that are on duty. I can count the Sultansworn, some adventurers and that's it. Not even the Grand Companies do.

It doesn't help that the main RP hub people use is outright inhospitable for new players due to the way the game works. Scrolling text and text that AUTO-SCROLLS to the bottom makes it hard for all parties involved to actively look for posts. Even tells can get eaten if the chime isn't heard. This is partially why I've been saying fuck the Quicksand for so long (other part is because I, the player, hate Ul'dah period). Also, when you broke into the scene helps. Right now I wouldn't say it's impossible but it's much harder to do that on your lonesome. I managed to do it (even then massive caveat because if it wasn't for the folks at XI:7 I wouldn't have the contacts I have now), but I also believe it's because of (WARNING : SELF-CONGRATULATORY POST FOLLOWS) my character's... interesting looks (I only say that because the looks themselves are very polarizing) and because he's extremely nice and idiotic so the chances of rubbing someone the wrong way is extremely low (when it happens though, IT IS GLORIOUS). It's, however, extremely hard for people to do that without having an in. You can't jam your foot in the door if the door's perpetually closed. In short, you get mentored or you end up wandering completely lost. Does that work? For some, yes. For the majority it doesn't seem to be working considering the amount of posts we get about people not being able to find RP. Also I find coming into this thread and essentially stating "fuck you I got mine".
