This is just me but... -
Yea, even running around and having a chance would have been nicer than the lobby boss you can't control. My condolences to you too and who knows. Maybe in the future something will work out for either of us. I'm happy at least for the FCs that managed to get lucky and their potential new RP locales that will follow. If there's a silver lining, I did end up getting a house a couple months ago. So, hold tight to the dream and hopefully you guys will get your own place too.

Aw, I feel you on that one. I didn't have any hormones or anything during the Ward expansion patch, but I definitely felt drained and unhappy and unwilling to really do anything with the game when lobby errors and queues kept me out of the running. Like, not even getting a chance to try before it was all already over is a terrible feeling. My condolences and I hope you and yours ultimately find a place to call home.

- Sui-no-Sato Lore I don't recall it being explicitly said the Raen of Sui-no-Sato have the Kojin blessing, but I believe it is implied. The Raen leave their city and swim to the surface to sing and gather food on their own. Whereas several of the Confederacy NPCs remark it would be impossible to make the journey to Sui-no-Sato without being able to breath underwater, ergo. There's also the side-quest with the... Sapphire-haired Girl, I believe? Wherein you take over the task of collecting some manner of seaweed thing from the sea floor? It's closer to shore so it isn't (comparatively) that deep, but it would imply they swim out to gather the stuff.

As - I would hope, at least - one of the "good" Lalafell compared to the less savory sorts, I've been pretty fortunate that most of the folks I RP with tend to take my characters decently seriously. If anything, I think it might be their personalities that play a larger part in how people interact with them - with cunning and conniving Gogon usually garnering a bit more respect than dopey little Chachan (except in matters where he can show off his smithing and whatnot). However, I think the issue of being taken "seriously" becomes the biggest issue... in combat situations. I'll just say that straight out - there are many folks who have difficulty accepting a Lalafell as a creditable combat threat, especially in the martial roles. There's been threads before debating how strong a Lalafell is and if they could take, say, a Roegadyn in a blow-for-blow match considering equal skill and ability. Some of it makes sense. Some of it doesn't. I've seen people put forth reasonable theories and assumptions regarding the physics of it all, but I've also seen folks who just feel like it's "bad" or "demeaning" to lose to a Lalafell in combat so they tend to just brush the loss off and act like they hadn't lost at all. Or that they weren't trying their hardest because "Lalafell." It's basically a degree of OOC bleed where they are seeing this cutesy looking, child-like race and thus treating them like that even though in-universe that... doesn't really happen. And you even have members of said race doing some pretty non-cutesy things (see Teledji and Pipin). And it often is just exaggerated when some Lalafell players also play them as shallow-cutesy, trolly, and otherwise to... basically continue the stereotype.

Ah, that's another pretty solid general one. Folks who seem to just like to focus on their character. Where the RP is very obviously just the "Me (and Maybe Friends) Show." There's a bunch of different flavors of it too: People who like to be super-dramatic about their character to actively draw attention to themselves from whatever else is going on, People who try to portray their character as basically the best at everything, so they can "solve" every situation, and People who actively belittle and posture their character as just being better than everyone else and all the others are not worth their time/effort. The latter one is a bit of a greyer subject, though, oddly enough. Since that could be very much just a facet of a character's personality. But if it looks like that it's also the player rather than just a bit of the character... or that's all the character is... then that might be something to be wary of.
-
It's definitely a... touchy topic. Since you could be very easily describing things you've had people do and - if they're savvy enough to recognize it - there could be a lot of hurt feelings. To try and throw a general, vague one out there... I'd say be wary of characters/players who get clingy a little too fast (though I suppose being clingy at all is probably a bad thing)? This is mostly for relationship RP, and from what I've seen and heard more than any personal experience. Like, the characters who are absolutely smitten with your character from the get-go or after a single date, moving right into that WE WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER scenario. Obviously, if you planned out them potentially doing the whole "love at first sight" thing, then it's not so bad. But when a single, random date has them attached to the hip with you... it can be problematic. It also can get a lot worse if they start seeing the RP partner thing as exclusionary (though this can be its own issue, I bet). As in, every RP you do has to include them somehow or they start getting upset and fussy if you're RPing with others without them. That sort of clinginess and possessiveness, if caught early, is probably a pretty solid red flag that this person may not be someone to RP with...

WANT.

... That's actually kind of amazing. I put my retainer bell in a counter top in Chachan's house, so they actually walk up to the counter to give their report.
-
They added swimming to all wards. ... I only just now noticed that a couple of those screenshots are in the Beds after you said that. Go me.
-
... Are those last three screenshots in the Goblet? Are they adding a swimming area there? :surprise:
-
Oh hey, they're bringing in the whole "dungeon run with your squad" thing in 4.1! That's pretty neat. And, of course, the glamour endgame continues by allowing you to dress up your NPC crew. ... I get the feeling Gogon will be better for that than Chachan just because he has all the jobs more or less leveled and therefore has outfits for all of them. Gotta coordinate the outfits, you know! ... Though I don't think I'll change my bizarre Snowman Lalafell. I'm also mildly curious how the Shinryu weapons are going to look. I hope they're not too fantabulous or I'll likely try to get one and drive myself crazy in the process.
-
Congrats! Though... ouch, that's a lot of attempts! Hopefully the rest of your journey through FFXIV will be a lot smoother! And yes, the Echo basically boosts all relevant stats - HP, MP, and damage - with each stack of it. It's pretty handy when you get stonewalled by something like that.

I'll second these two points in particular. The first one actually reminds me of a hint regarding scheduling for meetings. You may think a meeting will take half an hour, but you'll still schedule the meeting to be an hour or an hour and a half. Because things tend to always come up that will cause things to take longer - people arriving late, folks asking questions, technical issues. That can all cross over to RP as well, especially if you're an experienced DM. I'm sure there's plenty who have a story of having a puzzle they thought would be "easy" that the players end up taking an entire session to figure out. Or get distracted by a throw-away bit of fluff you added and spend a lot of time delving into that instead of the intended plot hook. Which leads into the other quoted bullet point for a whole other reason. You'll want to keep your event plot simple for all the things mentioned, and just so it's loose enough to adapt to whatever curve balls your participants throw at you. I've had a few DnD sessions that I felt terrible about afterward because I had a very strict sequence of events that I wanted to have happen that I ended up putting more importance on the story I wanted to tell than on the player participation. Which makes the situation very railroad-y. I find it helps that, if there are things you LIKE to have happen... it's not bad form to keep them in mind. But also be willing to allow it not to happen if the participants take a different tack with it. For example: "the caravan is waylaid by bandits" might - in your mind - involve them successfully stealing some item of value that is important to the plot. But, don't just railroad it into being an inevitability - if the heroes look like they're going to successfully fend them off, just make a point of highlighting the item. Or, if one of the robbers gets captured or swayed to their side... have them mention that they were told that item was Very Important. Like any form of DMing/event running... I think it ultimately boils down to just getting the practice and the experience under your belt. You will make mistakes, and that's okay. Hopefully the participants will roll with it and you come out of it all the wiser. Plus it'll give you stories to regale others with later. And, of course, as with any RP thing. Communication is paramount. Talk with your participants, see what they want to do. See what they don't want to do. Maybe they have an idea for something to happen that could catch your fancy, or maybe they want to run their own little scene that could add some additional flavor and offload some of the pressures on you to lead everything. In one of my events, I wanted to do a three-prong assault on three different facilities, so I had "mini-DMs" in the groups that did their own scenes while I helped from a more managerial position.

balmung Looking for IC Relationships and RP Partners!
Gegenji replied to Taiken's topic in Chronicled Connections
He sounds great! Xiou would probably have a lot of questions to ask them both. Don't hesitate to shoot me a message here or ig! ^^ Sapph there actually plays Chachan's girlfriend, so hopefully we'll manage to muster up some fun RP! Talk about chocobos and have all sorts of good times. I'll probably shoot you a PM, just because I'm horribad about following up in-game most of the time and on Tuesdays especially just because I'm running a little mini-arc. -
I'm (lazily) leveling up a new alt, so I suppose I should mention him here in proper fashion. Gaines Mal Vacerrosa - Latest in long line of crazy magitek scientist characters wows Emperor with ceruleum-powered toaster oven and pizza bagels. Loses favor by putting tiny pieces of pineapple on said pizza bagels.

balmung Seeking mentors, friends, rivals, adventure!
Gegenji replied to Y'uraq Tia's topic in Chronicled Connections
If you'd like a relatively like-minded individual when it comes to combat, Chachan is a pretty avid pacifist - also seeking to try and avoid fighting whenever possible. He's also the sort who tries to see the good in everyone and likes making friends, so they'd probably get along with that too. And, of course, if your character is primarily a Dark Knight-based dude... Chachan is an armorsmith by trade, so he could always be handy to bump into for a repair or wholesale armor replacement. He could probably help touch up the weapon too, but his pacifistic nature leaves him pretty uneasy about crafting new weapons except for those he has complete trust with. Just throwing all that out there in case you want to meet up with the little popoto. -

A cheerful Doman that likes Chocobos? Sounds like a friend for Chachan! He could probably help, in his own dorky way, to help her read Eorzean books since he's basically fluent in both language. He's also dating someone who also likes Chocobos, used to work at the Saucer, and likes to sing and dance! So there's that angle as well! (I've also found Chachan's smithy roof a really nice spot for stargazing and just looking over the Goblet, but that may just be me.) -
Hopefully that will be the edge you need! We're rooting for you.

To be fair, HW is when they started doing the whole "give HQ armor choices" from the MSQ and side quests. So even if you can't splurge on a full set of improved Magitek, you'll still get some solid gear that you can augment with what few armor pieces you get in the dungeons. ... Of which you're going to be guaranteed at least one drop at the very end thanks to SE adding that little benefit in, along with whatever else the RNG deigns to give you. I'm actually leveling an alt through HW right now (just hit 59), and I haven't really been hurting for gear... except for maybe rings. I think I still have the Magitek ring and... a level 52 HQ one? But back to the original point of the thread... I actually managed that fight as a MCH BRD myself and what everyone's saying about target priority is very important. Kiliiet's list is pretty solid. And don't get too frustrated by the fight - I failed it a time or two myself before everything fell into place. Edit: Bleh, sorry, I'm a MCH now on that character but he was a BRD at the time. Since, obviously, you can't unlock MCH until you reach Ishgard. 8D;; I'm trying to remember all that I did to help with that fight... but I don't recall too much beyond killing the squishies and the targets called out by the NPCs (the claws) and making judicious use of my songs. Keeping Second Wind and some potions on hand in case you get a little too much aggro is also probably a good idea.

Here are some screenies I took while serving as judge! ... Mostly just wide angle shots to show the massive crowd that turned up and a couple shots of the two victors! Speaking of, congratulations to Kalas Kazewoka and Kiera Hawkeye for their victories!

Well, if you forgo the globe itself, you could simply be a fortuneteller of some sort who uses the cards to read fortunes. I know a lot of fortuneteller characters switched to or were created with the idea that they'd use AST. If the globe is still a problem, maybe you could just hand-wave it as a fancy device to display your cards on or something?

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Gegenji replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That's how I get commends, I stick around while a lot of people rush to leave, so the others left over just pick me because I'm there. I get a decent amount of comms that way. I usually hung around in the Omega raids (and most raids in general along with some trials, really) because there was always someone who wanted to try and be tricksy and hold off on rolling on the drops to see if they could get people upset enough to leave so they could roll uncontested. It never really worked and I don't know why people waste other people's time like that. -

Well, to be fair, the Ranged DPS role actions aren't all that amazing. Not to excuse my using of Peloton (which I abuse a bunch just because gotta go fast), but I'm still running both the MP and TP Refresh on top of that. I think my full load out is... Peloton, Tactician, Refresh, Second Wind, and Invigorate. ... I suppose i could put Palisade on there, but that's one of those abilities I actually forget to use. Much like the heal boost move for the Healer role actions (I just run Esuna instead at this point). However, Goad and Manashift and them I can and do use frequently because those are things where it's pretty easy to see "Oh, X is low on MP/TP." I just get a little bit miffed when I Dualcast a rez on a healer, Manashift them MP so they can actually get back in the game, and not even get a modicum of acknowledgement for it. Especially when doing so on a frequent enough basis (I, no lie, had a Exdeath run where I had to rez people no less than six times... probably more) that I'm basically running dry on MP because I've spent it all keeping everyone else on their feet. Feels bad, man. Also, I usually figure out who I'm commending during the course of the instance. Or at least drop people off the list for doing things like pulling instead of the tank and the like. Sometimes it's a bit more petty than that, I'll admit. Sometimes it can just be if the party member rubs me the wrong way. ... Or it could be like when I was running Sohm Al yesterday! I was on MCH on the second boss and used the LB to both kill the green Chime of the Mountain and hit the boss at the same time. And our SAM threw a fit for me "wasting an LB." You know, when they were too busy tunnel-visioning the boss and that LB is the only thing that kept the Chime from detonating on us since no one else but me was DPSing it. Like, seriously, we were cutting it so close to killing it in time that I thought we had failed and it was gonna pop on us.
