Sadly enough Balmung is THE RP server, so I fear to get a good experience of FFXIV RP, getting onto Balmung is a near must. And thankfully for you, we rarely see regular normal peasants in FFXIV being roleplayed. As for lore adherence ect? We got folk in various degrees. Ones who stick completely to FFXIV lore, others who take their liberties, others who just don't care at all. So I wouldn't worry about that either. In any case... FFXIV community is in general very much accepting of anything not straight. Even more so on Balmung. Being a person who falls under the non-straight folk, I never had the need to find myself a specific LS or FC for it, as no one really cares on Balmung what you, or your character identifies as. We are here to RP after all. Whereas you might get some comments IC at best, although with Ave swinging to whatever person she finds attractive, I never had any issues. However if your character only focuses onto getting into people's pants, you will get some offhand comments no doubt. And that comes from the RPer who lost count on how many lovers their char has.

Just a quick announcement... I'm going to boot inactive (alts) from the LS. If you got an alt you rarely play, feel free to leave it the LS as well until you become active again. As well, I'm only allowing 1 extra active alt in the LS at best to avoid the LS from being flooded by the same folk. If I kicked you on accident, I will reinvite you of course

Beyond: Q: Why don't male Highlanders have eyebrows? MCKF: There is a reason. Highlanders are a very violent group of people. Their clan is always warring amongst each other and against the Midlanders as well back in their homelands. They like battle. They fight and the women fight and their children fight, because that's their culture. When you have this culture of everybody being able to fight, it's all about getting the one-up on your opponent. Everyone's good with a sword or a club or whatever, so you need something extra. Everyone expects their opponent to have eyebrows. So if someone goes into battle and your opponent doesn't have eyebrows, it psychs you out and your head gets chopped off. Different tribes have their different rituals but one of those rituals is shaving off the eyebrows to put fear into your opponent. Q: So they do have eyebrows, they just shave them off? MCKF: Yeah, it's not a genetic thing. They shave them off or they give themselves scars or pull out their teeth. Things like that to make them look more imposing. We have nothing specific ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Well there's the Sharlayan/Circle of Knowing tattoo, but besides that? I don't know of anything else. I'd imagine it is just... clan specific stuff? I think as long you don't go for a generic anime last name, you will be completely fine! I mean, as long as it looks Japanese to me I'm like "Yup, that sounds lore fitting". No one is really going to pick your lastname apart, as long it looks fitting imo

That's all nice and dandy, but you're the the exception. Most people aren't IC all the time, or only at certain locations. If you wanna add something here, Nebbs, beyond "I RP everywhere" I think the OP would appreciate that. I'm sure even you know of places you wish you could find easier RP ^^

Getting onto Balmung is impossible at this point, but for transferring to it. There are some EU communities out there, but as a fellow EU player I can tell that moving to Balmung is still the best thing to do if you enjoy roleplaying above all; not that I wish to discourage you, or hold back the growth of EU servers with RPers on them, but eh, it is sadly enough the truth. If there was a legit EU server with the amount of folk Balmung has, I would have gone there myself!

Y'know, I do need a reason for Heidrek to face his fears and go back there... How does the possibility of an angry Ala Mhigan woman to drag him back in there as a reason ? Because I can make that happen. Besides that, I need more Ala Mhigans to RP with anyhow *grabby hands*

Sounds awesome! In fact I was having a semi similar idea in my mind. Just with betting, rigging eventually and making it a bit more shady. But if you'd want to keep it totally legit, I'd completely understand that. If you need help, just give me a poke!

I feel you there, cept I'm not shy IRL, my wife has social anxiety disorder so I understand what it's like to be shy in person. However in game I'm extremely shy. I started my MMO career with PvE, then moved to PvP, and when Rift came out I decided I didn't like the communities of PvE/PvP servers anymore to many "Brah L2P nub" and other various forms of childish behavior. I've been playing on RP servers for awhile now, but I've never roleplayed. I want to so bad but I can't. I sit there every night trying to create a storyline for my character Castian Kensaki, but when I get something nailed down I start to second guess it. Like at first I wanted Castian to be a shinobi/bodyguard so I leveled a NIN to get access to the class gear, but that changed when I saw alot of people and got alot of whispers about how they too were shinobi or bodyguards and wanted me to join their free company, but when I'd observe them or talk with them they'd be way to imposing for me to jump in. Then a friend I made(who no longer plays it seems) told me her character was a bodyguard type so I changed my RP story cause I really wanted to RP with her(doesn't seem right to have a bodyguard guard another). Well I changed my story to being a Wander/Ronin since I'm almost positive they'll release Samurai at some point(I hope). And have joined an FC and farming Aery/Vault for my RP set so I could finally roleplay, but I can't. I sit there all night thinking about how all these experienced roleplayers would look at me and think I'm stupid or ignore me completely because my backstory is too generic. Or I sit there and think of how people won't want to RP with me because I play on ps4 and my chat response is delayed because I have to put down my controller to type on my keyboard, and I have to extend my chatlog to full screen cause I can't adjust it and sometimes jump by accident. So I end up staying in the duty finder all day doing what I do best while I get bored and burned out on the game because my desire seems to be so far out of reach that I just run the same content over and over. Then there is what I want from an RP story. I'm a romantic, I want my character to fall in love, I want to explore a storyline where he and a girl travel the world together doing all sorts of things while their bond strengthens to the point of an RP wedding and beyond. But I can't go out there and meet characters and work for that kind of story because I have what I guess could be best explained as stage fright. Or there is the fear that I'll get attached to a character and the person behind that character will stop playing the game all together effectively ending whatever story we had or could have had. Right now the best RP story I can think of is "Oh I'm a merc, I go out drink in the tavern telling war stories, then go kill more stuff." because that is all that seems like is open to me character wise. Add that to the fear of trying to join RP with already established characters makes roleplay a very daunting and trying experience. *slams fist down* Generic backstories are good backstories! And dude, really, get out there and find people to roleplay with. Balmung can use more roleplayers, and really people feel like you all the time. Even I do at times. It isn't strange or odd! Poke me ingame for some RP someday, but really, just make a LF contacts thread or something, stick your head in events and in no time you will have tons of folk to RP with

I'm really happy with my Steelseries one. Mostly because back in the days it was great for blocking out noise surrounding me, the sound quality is nice, and it didn't break on me yet whereas other headsets did already in the past. I could recommend those, but they tend to be a bit pricey (I was lucky a friend of mine worked at a PC store and I could get one with massive discount at the time).

I sat here squinting for a while, but I think both jobs and classes are equally played? Maybe jobs a bit more. As for my two 'mains' not counting in the oddly played alt, one is a class, the other a job. So I fear if I'd vote, it wouldn't be fair as I really count them equal for roleplay. One is a THM, the other a MNK. Hell, I guess Virella could go as civilians as well, because she used to be an Astrologer (not Astrologian) first and foremost. So I guess I won't be of any help there But yeah, I think most people play jobs still, but there's also a heap of people who play classes... I'm really not sure which gets played more. But hopefully your poll with gives some clarity on what at least the RPC prefers. Although I'm going to abstain due to both my characters being very different, and I don't want to pick between either. But I suppose you can count a +1 on job and class both if you want to.
