Maybe because I'm kind of a 90s kid, but I liked the second one just because of it's so damn cheesy.

balmung Rumor has it, this cat's dangerous.- Lunae Lux
Cassandra replied to Lunae Lux's topic in Chronicled Connections
May just have an idea for enemies, perhaps turned friendly. In any event, Olivia has been on the run for several years now, with a sizable bounty on any information about her whereabouts or capture. So my thinking is Lunae could well have taken up pursuing said bounty, not really knowing the full details, if you wanted to play up the reckless side of things. If that sounds like something you'd be into, mayhaps we can hash out the details. ^^ -
Had a blast with this. We ended going over just simple chitchat over drinks for a good two hours. Always love little RPs like that. Thanks for putting all this together Ilwe'ran. ^^

If you're still looking for RPs, I'm happily for it. Still have to get Livi's wiki up, but I do have a very brief outline here

Was about to ask this myself. At your budget, you could afford to toss in dual GTX 980tis, which utterly wrecks any game currently available (and for the foreseeable future). Even just one of those cards can handle 4K level gaming with minimal effort. You just won't get that type of performance with a laptop. So unless you need it for work, I highly recommend a desktop, specifically building one yourself. It may sound daunting at first, but there are a plethora of guides to help out with that. If you're set on a laptop though, the Razorblade garners a lot of praise. Alienware also makes some good laptops that aren't as insanely overpriced as some of their other models. I suggest searching through Linus Tech Tips. He makes detailed youtube revives on gaming laptops and computer hardcore. Excellent source of info.

Ugh. Absolutely gorgeous. Gotta love that ever present Arik look,

Many thank yous for this link! And welcome Attis! Unfortunately, beginning gear looks like road kill half the time, but since adding the glamour system, you have a lot more free rein once you reach lvl. 50. So I wouldn't worry too much about idential twins running amuck. If you bounce around people's wiki pages here, you'll see a ton of different looks. As always, if you want to RP or just run some dungeons. Feel free to toss me a line~

Welcome aboard! You'll definitely feel right at home here. Cally's cookies are just that tempting. And if you ever want to RP, feel free to hit me up in game!

A potential workaround to characters being "badasses", and thereby not easily afraid would be putting them in situations that exploit their internal demons. Liv's backstory has a few elements along those lines (once I get to writing it), but I imagine you could work a horror around something similar. Granted, a good portion of characters don't fit the adventurer role. So I wouldn't worry about it not being scary enough. That said, I adore Until Dawn. So I'd definitely be interested. ^^

*offers cookie* A feeling I know too well. While I'm not quite as bad, I'll admit many of these exact thoughts have crossed my mind on more than a few occasions. Perhaps my biggest hurdle wearing the "wallflower" mantle is being overly critical. (I overthink everything. Even this post >.>) I get bogged down on whether I'll bother someone or the RP might be boring if it were just a random bar scene. Sometimes, it can be especially hard to quiet those little voices. The fact I am still quite new to FFXIV and MMOs in general doesn't help, though the people I've come across here have left great first impressions. Nonetheless, that lack of knowledge does make me wary I won't be able to keep up. Allister makes a good point, one I am guilt of myself. Not everyone RP needs to be some grand event nor a marked point of development. In fact, I daresay those are among the most nature if you can get passed the apprehension. Most interactions in RL amount to small talk, with everyone involved going their separate ways after. Problem is in the roleplay world that gets taken to mean something went amiss. So as a partial wallflower myself, I suppose the best I can say is to take little baby steps, be it through RPC or in the actual game - whichever feels most comfortable. And get yourself out there. Of course, now I'll have to follow my own advice. ^^;

Thank you all for the welcomes <3 She lies. Whole reason I'm here. Having an absolute blast so far! Though I'm still just settling into RPing in a MMO, it, and the game itself, has been a lot of fun. ^^

I could be mistaken, but it seems Square has taken to outright blocking Balmung through character creation. At least if their news tab is any indication. Your only bet would be to go through with a transfer. Ah, I thought the O needed to be marked for transfers or creations? If not, I think its good news for me because I plan on transferring from Gilgamesh. I have a level 20; dont think I'd feel like leveling again, rofl. I probably just need to continue to wait, since my character doesn't show up in the drop down box. Thanks for the clarification! :3 Transferring from another server bypasses the block. So you can do it any time. Your character probably didn't show up since they just finished maintenance. Check today and you should be able to pay for a transfer. ^^

Welcome! Having recently switched too, I'll say I love Balmung. Hope you do too. If you want to RP or have some questions, feel free to message in-game. ^^

You and me both. ^^

Let's talk about organizing a tertiary RP server
Cassandra replied to Flickering Ember's topic in FFXIV Discussion
As a recent transfer myself, I echo the overall sentiment of Nero’s post. What garnered my initial interest with the game was my friend selling Balmung’s activity. If I were going to become a part of the roleplaying community in a MMO, I wanted it to be where roleplay is fairly ubiquitous. Being advised to a tertiary alternative wouldn’t be near as appealing since its smaller size makes establishing RP partners that much more difficult. I also feel it may have the unfortunate – and likely unintentional – effect of making Balmung seem like a clique. While having to pay $18USD isn’t ideal (especially because the Canadian dollar is trash /grumble), the decision ultimately lies in whether you feel the value outweighs the cost. I viewed the potential to RP on the server most dedicated for it as a worthwhile enough investment. Those who feel the same will eventually transfer over, otherwise they are likely quite happy wherever they are. Going over and declaring a new server as RP world #3 won’t make it happen. Rather, as has already been said, we’re better off making an inviting venue where any RPer can come and make connections, which is what RPC does. Put another way, fuel the fires that already exist on those serves in lieu of starting an inferno. What should happen is Square either decide on an official server for Roleplayers, or allow for an even larger population. That said, I find it hard they’ll see the enticement when the current divide makes them money. Like I said above, I think the most we can truly offer as a middle ground would be what the RPC already accomplishes: a forum of like-minded individuals. It's up to those people to determine whether they want to find RP elsewhere or pay to transfer into Balmung. Even if a tertiary option were created. I suspect a similar problem would linger as most people want to be apart of the "popular crowd." -
Would love to get involved with this. If I don't find you first, do send an invite. ^^

That's a shame. May have to revive it sometime. Seemed like a fun idea.

This was me earlier. I played until 9am or some such without any sleep because I was damn determined to reach Limsa. After I did, my brain was like "okay, we're done."

bourne.endeavor Feel free to add me ^^

Still quite new to the game, but I wanted to drop in and say hi. ^^ --MMORPG background Rather minimal. My last romp in the MMO genre was back in the original Guild Wars. So I am fairly new to the dynamic, though I have a general gist. Only thing I'm still having to get used to is the enormous amount of skills. Coming from predominant console gaming to suddenly having a lot more input is a bit daunting, . --RP experience This I have quite a bit more experience with, having done forum RPs for several years. Little awkward shifting to MMO RPing, so you'll have to forgive any rust, but I'm hoping to pick up the habit quickly. I still do quite a bit via messager chat programs, which seems similar though. --Character ideas/info Still finding Olivia's voice. I actually thought of holding off any introductions until I had something, but what can ya do? So far my draft outline considers of: Scarred by her fanatic father whose devotion to Garlean prompted branding his children with magitek, Olivia has since become a vagabond, fleeing her homestead and the fate it entails. Forced to partake in shady dealings and conceal her origin, she passes the white mark as vanity - a tattoo of her own choosing. Despite being haunted by further events of which her perceived inability cost another her life, she maintains a feint smile, hiding behind a mask which has earned her that very name. Still very much in development, but that is an incredibly brief summary of ideas. --How did you learn about the coalition? I hold a certain Blackbourne entirely responsible. Such evil wiles. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Eventually, I would like to lean towards heavy, but as I do not yet know much of the lore. It's a bit difficult to jump in blind. I also want to just play it as a game, occasionally. So at the moment, I'm just playing it by ear. Suppose, I'll call myself medium for now. --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) Used to be an avid gamer who has only recently got back into them. In the interim, I've focused on writing as my go to hobby, though some bad experiences put a dent in my roleplaying, which I aim to fix. So far, I've heard nothing but the best from this commodity; rather excited, really. Otherwise, there isn't too much to tell. I'm terrible at figuring what to say about myself, so we'll just leave it there! Mic drop; cookies for all.

ok, speaking of servers though. are there other servers that this site is active on? Our should I just play for a bit on other servers till balmung is open again? Unfortunately, Balmung is notoriously difficult to get in. I believe the server is closed to character creation. So you'll have to transfer from another server. (The exception rules don't apply if you pay for a transfer.) Personally, as a new player myself, I would say Balmung is definitely worth it if you fancy roleplaying; great commodity there, though I've heard Gilgamesh is a decent alternative. And on that note. Welcome aboard! :moogle:

For me, it's whether their skills are properly justified. If say, you intend to portray a character whose a renowned swordsmen, then I would expect to instances within their history that reflect how they perfected this particular art. It doesn't have to some elaborate tale or a bullet point reference to every little activity they have ever partaken in. Just enough to suspend my disbelief. In this sense, I'm less concerned with people who want to play a prodigy of some sort, but rather how they go about doing so. Of course, this is all relative, given even the most reasoned backstory can get carried away at times. Suffice it to say, as long as the character is interesting, I'm pretty lenient.

Is anyone else having difficulty RPing their Au Ra?
Cassandra replied to Ashe's topic in RP Discussion
Something I like to do when trying to jump start interest in a character is look for a source of inspiration. What characters or ideas have I seen in other forms that I would like to explore myself, albeit in a unique fashion? Say you're a Mass Effect or Dragon Age fan. There can be a place gather ideas and build a foundation. A good idea would be to separate the Au Ra aspect and focus on personality. Allow that to fuel her backstory; how she will react to the ideas you have and etc. That way you have a better template to work with when actually RPing. I've always found going into a character without any sort of plan can hurt my general interest because I'm forced to think how they will act instead of knowing, and that just pulls me out of the immersion. That being said, if you continue to struggle. Don't pull your hair out. Sometimes, an idea just doesn't work out. It's disappointing, but in my experience, you are better off letting go than fighting a muse that isn't happening.
