Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ In addition to the above... 1) I'd highly recommend joining the Balmung Discord Server where you can connect with a lot of other RP'ers easily. You can find FC's, independents, and you can get a glimpse of what they're all about before you interact with them. Here's a Discord invite: https://discord.gg/bnBSTeU The channels you primarily will want to watch are the #personal-ads and #community-ads. #lfrp-now is another possibility, but you have to hawk over that one pretty often since it's real-time right-now RP ads. 2) Na, no tags. Generally people will post OOC preferences inside their character Carrds, if anywhere at all. 3) Personally, independent networking and connections via either the Discord or the RPC "Making Connections" forum will generally give you some of the meatiest RP you can find, as folks generally have an idea what they're looking for already, and they want to push a scene. FC's are more your one-size-fits-all niches where you can more easily blend into a crowd. You can do one or the other, or both! There's a lot of tradeoffs between the two approaches, but they're not mutually exclusive either.

[Coeurl/Crystal DC] Looking for new friends!
Thunderbolt300 replied to Derpamine's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hey there! I could certainly see throwing Kasi into the direction of either Sjlfe or Pepin. While her Carrd at-a-glance is located here if you want to get in-depth, some easy connection points would be: She is a veteran mercenary and is actively employed as a contractor She can mentor and train anyone looking for experience in martial combat (swords, polearms, etc.) She helped manage a tavern (now defunct) and still occasionally bartends on a case-by-case basis She's fairly close in age to Sjlfe If any of this tickles, just drop me a line! Best of luck on your search! -
New to FF14, looking for decent roleplay environments
Thunderbolt300 replied to Agea's topic in Welcome Desk
Hey there and welcome aboard the RPC! o/ Sadly I don't have much knowledge outside of the Crystal data center. You might try looking for server Discords and ask there instead. -
Sounds like an awesome start to me! And yeah, throw it everywhere you can. More hits is good hits!
-
Hey there and welcome aboard the RPC! o/ You might as well throw the carrd up and reap the free publicity!

That's the real question, isn't it? Playing through the entire thing could easily take a month or more. At the same time, a lot of the current geopolitical status of the game world is included with the storyline and is necessary for RP, some of which you might run into as spoilers during RP anyway. Long story short: it depends. It'd be better to wait, but realistically, you could be waiting a long time. I'd say getting up past Stormblood is probably the minimum.

Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ Long as you're within the Crystal datacenter, you'll be golden for having access to the lion's share of the RP community. World travel from any of the main capital cities will handle the rest!

New to RP on FFXIV, just a few questions. :)

Hey there, and welcome to the RPC! o/ I'd see if you can find an Aether Discord channel where you can connect with other RP'ers. We have them over here on Crystal, at least, but I don't know where they might be. -
Hey there, fellow DIY'er, and welcome aboard the RPC! o/ Best way to establish new connections after being away for a while will be to toss up and respond to ads on the Balmung and/or Mateus Discords. Those are excellent resources. The Making Connections forum here on the RPC is also an excellent option.

Hi! I'm new to RP on FF14. Any tips/help?
Thunderbolt300 replied to PenguBirb's topic in Welcome Desk
Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ Best advice I can give for a new startup is to try doing some 'lamping' first. If you're not familiar, this is where you eavesdrop on RP'ers to get a sense for how characters operate and function without actually participating yourself. You can get a lot of ideas for your own usage this way too, and if you feel daring, you can ask questions OOC for the players involved too. Most folks are generally friendly with people asking questions. Once you've got a handle on that, joining the Mateus and/or Balmung Discords is the next logical step, as you can start making firm character connections with other players that way, or locate FC or linkshell groups to plug into RP in a more easily accessible manner. -
Yeah, eventually, when you feel comfortable with what you've seen, you'll want to join the Mateus and/or Balmung Discords and start reaching out to people. Find an RP Free Company, or make your own independent connections with other players directly. Either option is totally viable! If you connect with independents, usually they have their own circles that you will also link into by consequence. It's almost like a maverick FC.

Hey man-- welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ The primary servers are both Mateus and Balmung, but with server guesting, it doesn't matter so much these days.

Introductions are hard, but I try! (+ a few questions)
Thunderbolt300 replied to eoneorzea's topic in Welcome Desk
Hey man! Welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ Best starting point is to join the Balmung and/or Mateus Discords and start responding to, or creating, ads to get yourself involved. Many Free Companies recruit via these Discords too, so you can find what you want fairly easily that way. Now, that said... Free Companies are entirely optional here. Many games exhibit the issue where nearly all RP happens under guild umbrellas, but the FFXIV community is so large that there's a lot of stuff that happens outside the silos. You will also find there's enough of a community outside of FC's to be able to effectively survive "off the grid" and still get an excellent experience independently. Personally, I've been living this way for the last six months, so it's very doable. -
Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ I know the pain of campaign groups falling apart. Fortunately you have some options with plugging into guilds that might have stable groups. Personally I've had a lot of success operating with independents, which is really a good sign overall for the community. It's possible to simply exist outside of an RP guild and still find campaign groups that are functional. The one I've run has been steady for the last 4 months so far, and has picked up a couple more players over that time too. Best way to get launched is to join the Balmung and/or Mateus Discords, and create a Carrd so you can get yourself out there. From there, the connections largely write themselves!

Hey man, welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ Asking questions is a great start. Personally, I would recommend visiting the Quicksand in Ul'dah or roaming the streets to see all the random, PUG-based RP around the city. You can do something commonly called "lamping", which is to say, you just eavesdrop and watch other people RP. This is a great way just to see it in action, get a sense of the syntax, and then you'll have a fairly good idea on what to do from there. Character-wise, you'll want to try and bake a concept and story for the character, and once you have that, you can look for good tie-ins with other characters. Best of luck!

Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ If you're looking for Discord contacts, the best place to start is likely to be either the Balmung or Mateus Discord channels, which are the central hubs for RP'ers. The invite link here should take you there: https://discord.gg/bnBSTeU

Building off what Moon mentioned... You're going to feel like you're drinking from a firehose for a while, and honestly, that's to be expected! Don't put a lot of pressure on yourself to soak it all up all at once. There's an insane amount of lore to comb through with the game itself, let alone its applications in RP. That said, the best way to get started on the RP scene is to do a good bit of "lamping." This means just eavesdropping on RP'ers while they RP, even if you aren't, and you'll get a sense for how it works pretty quick (so named for being a street lamp over an RP scene, in other words). Feel free to ask questions as well! Fortunately, the RP servers on FFXIV don't have much of any griefers, so you're not likely to run into them here as much as you might in other games. In any case, welcome aboard to the RPC! o/

[Balmung/Crystal] Road Warrior Seeks More Road
Thunderbolt300 replied to Thunderbolt300's topic in Chronicled Connections
The carrd has received some fairly heavy attention since this post was made, largely to try and keep it current as storylines continue to evolve, and slim down the content to keep it from getting bloated. In addition, as detailed in the Carrd above, easy connection ideas are: Bounty hunters pursuing her Fellow road warriors / mercenaries Alchemists Equipment suppliers / services (ex., blacksmiths) Employers Students looking to learn swordsmanship or polearms Other ideas are welcome too! The easiest way to contact me is via Discord here- just drop me a message. Thanks!
