Yeah, the Discord is your best bet for any current information. Speaking of the Balmung Discord, the channels to watch foremost would be the #personal-ads, #community-ads, and #lfrp-now. Those are typically the most relevant sections to keep an eye on. Most of the wiki pages are no longer maintained in favor of Carrd, and the forums have been made obsolete by Discord, but a good few of us still hawk over the place despite that!

The Balmung Discord is located here: https://discord.gg/bnBSTeU I'm not sure on the Mateus one, admittedly. I wouldn't mind finding that one myself.

[Mateus] Bastard Fortune Teller- Chce Lihzeh

Very awesome time running into Chce! A+. Now I just need to swing out there again to follow up on a business arrangement... -
Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! o7 As you've probably noticed, we don't deal with griefing and persecution very often at all here, and certainly not to the degree it's prevalent in BDO. In addition to what Faye mentioned, Carrd is only as complex as you want to make it- in fact, added complexity can hurt more than it helps. On the whole, it's a pretty user-friendly platform. While the forums and wiki are used still to some degree, the bulk of activity can be found now in the server Discords for Balmung and Mateus. You can also throw up a Making Connections post here on the forums or the Discords when and if you have a good idea of what kind of RP niche you'd like to fall into (ex., things not related to tavern RP).

mateus Yet another new player, seasoned roleplayer!
Thunderbolt300 replied to Tierney's topic in Welcome Desk
Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ Fortunately, I tend to think that FFXIV has one of the most expansive RP entertainment venue sprawls that you could find in any MMO on the market today, so you can find a ton of stuff outside of anything with an adamant combat focus. There's the Quicksand in Ul'dah, but there are also player-run taverns and restaurants aplenty as well. There are folks who put on concerts and dance shows too, so there's a pretty good bet you could find something that you'd like to get involved with. If you're looking for more particular character connections to make, I'd suggest hitting the Making Connections forum or alternatively joining some of the server Discords where people post FC ads and independent connection opportunities. -

Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ If you're looking to dip your toes into RP you may want to take a look at any of the Crystal data center servers. If you're looking for EU based communities, I know they're around even within Crystal, which seems to be where most roleplayers congregate. The Balmung and/or Mateus server Discords are a great place to go hunting for connections as well!

Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ Most RP insofar as I know tends to be focused around the Crystal data center and it's servers, so that's something to keep in mind if you have trouble locating anything where you are currently. It may be worth the transfer if that's what you're primarily after. As for your last question, roleplayers in general tend to be a fairly tolerant bunch and I don't think there's any particular server where they are moreso. The disclaimer is that I haven't personally gotten a lot of exposure to that, so you may need to do some more searching around. The Balmung and/or Mateus server Discords may be a better place to ask as they tend to be more active than the forums.

Hey y'all-- Looking to build out some additional connections, as I've been gone for some time due to burnout and most of my connections from 2-4 years ago are now long gone. Kasi can be best summed up as a meat-obsessed road-warrior with a fixation on overpowering strength. She can typically be found just about anywhere in the world aside from Gridania, and she'll generally take on most jobs as long as they either have her traveling or tackling some kind of challenge. She has had crime connections in the past, although nothing presently. Her ethics are fairly fluid, but she is a lawful character ultimately. I've tried to run a fairly lean carrd page for connection ideas, current storyarcs, and other bits and pieces- pretty much anything that would be of use to a potential connection. https://kasi.carrd.co/ I'm typically available most evenings during the weekdays, and all day on weekends. These days, I tend to schedule RP meetups in advance, but I'm often open for the spontaneous sort too. In fact, I'd like to get to the spontaneous point again eventually, but we'll see. Anyway, thanks for reading!

Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! o/ Yeah, the first couple of months it's going to be like drinking from a firehose. There's a lot.

Hey, welcome aboard to the RPC! The community is always in need of more people that can take the reigns and churn on events. The only snag you may hit is you will find the majority of the RP presence on Mateus and Balmung, which may make your guild prospects a little more uncertain. That said, there are independent groups that operate like guilds that are cross-server friendly, and it's a good way to get introduced to a server community too. And yeah, the glamour system is FFXIV seems to have been copied either to or from SWTOR. It's really convenient to use, even if it takes a little bit to warm up to.

Thunderbolt300 replied to Ren Huang's topic in Chronicled Connections
Bounty hunter reporting in! If you're still hunting for someone to hunt you, I can throw down for that sweet, sweet allure of gil. Girl's got bills to pay. I don't use dice systems, and don't care who "wins" (or if there is even a winner), so I usually just go with the flow or if there's an intended outcome to work towards as far as combat resolution goes. I can adapt to whatever. Character at-a-glance available here: https://kasi.carrd.co/ Let me know if this tickles! -
Going to keep this short and simple. I’m seeking like-minded folks interested in creating and running small group storylines for character development, whether they be one-shot, multi-part series, or long campaigns. General connections are all certainly welcome too- I can accommodate nearly anything. I might be in the market for an FC too, but it’s not a priority. My emphasis is really on driving narrative. Drop me a note and we can talk shop! Summary information available: https://kasi.carrd.co/ Thanks!

I'm going to keep this pretty simple. I decided I'd throw together a linkshell here and push to try and foster more world RP churn out and about! I'm totally unsure of how much interest there'd be in this sort of thing, but I know I've generally been able to grab people for world RP in the past for a rather wide variety of scenes. So, why not make a framework for it in order to coordinate better? This linkshell and Discord will be a means by which people can notify others about there being active RP in-game out in the world- don't expect a lot of spam and channels here, it's going to be very lean (as in there's not even a general chat channel at the moment). Start your own, or hitch your wagon to someone else's- whatever works! I'll certainly be trying to set up shenanigans with it all either way. Here's the Discord link: https://discord.gg/tN2aZuY (It'll be growing over the next few days)

Eastern Roegadyn Seeking Connections of All Kinds!
Thunderbolt300 replied to Thunderbolt300's topic in Chronicled Connections
Sure thing! I'll drop you a line here on Discord. Yes, I admit- I'm a bit of a hobbyist programmer and I really like to have action scenes, so long as they can move relatively quickly and don't boil down characters to pure random. Those two things can be a little mutually exclusive, though, when it comes down to it. Slap those two things together and I ended up putting together a bot to hopefully snatch the best of both! -
Hey y’all! New full-time character breaking out onto the scene! I’m hunting for all manner of connections in an effort to build out from my current group- friends, peers, fellow road-warriors, rivals, enemies, and everything in-between. So, who’s the lucky guy? His name is Shattered Summit, and he’s a Roegadyn Hellsguard of about forty years. He comes from a long and proud family lineage of migrants from Eorzea that, over the centuries, slowly migrated increasingly eastward from Abalathia's Spine, following mountain ranges, before finally ending up in the Tail Mountains at the northern end of the Azim Steppe in Othard. His family lineage has picked up a great deal of Eastern influence along the way as a result, and he himself routinely makes treks down from the mountains to do trade in Reunion. He’s something of a skald as well, as his family lineage has been passed down orally in the form of myths and legends. Above all, his heritage prizes honor and strength, and includes an honor code by which he lives his life. Also, he’s huge. Dotharl for scale. Speaking of which, he is nearly always accompanied by a Dotharl woman, Qala Dotharl, who is bound by honor to serve him. The two of them have a rather love-hate relationship (but mostly hate) on the whole, but together, they now travel the continents as freelancers seeking challenging and dangerous foes by which they mean to test themselves. Summit himself hopes to eventually pass on his own myths and legends into the family history, but in the meantime, he passes the slow days by homebrewing cider, lager, beer, and occasionally even sake. Qala, meanwhile, just wants to murder him. There’s a lot of finer details I’m glazing over here- I wouldn’t want to spoil all of it at once, of course! You’ll just have to meet him yourself to get all the rest of it. Last but not least, I tend to run little spontaneous events during RP to try and spice things up if it gets slow. I’ve built a Discord bot from scratch to help streamline conducting events (it has a character sheet database, tracks HP and gil rewards, allows for tanking and healing mechanics, does all the math- the goal was to create a system that’s easy to pick up, even easier to use, but still allows for character depth beyond simple /random). It’s entirely optional, of course, but I’ll be using that for any events I toss around. Generally I’m available anywhere from 5:00 - 11:00 PM CST on the weekdays, and all day on the weekends (though weekends tend to be time for other games I admit, but I’ll still be around). I try to keep most of my RP scenes open world so that other people can just wander up- that way, there’s not much of a need to schedule anything (got time? Just show up!). If your interest is piqued, just drop me a line here or privately, or hit me up on Discord @ Thunderbolt300#0807. Of course, you can just tap me on Shattered Summit in-game, too!

balmung Seeking the Architect(s) of My Demise!
Thunderbolt300 posted a topic in Chronicled Connections
Hey y’all! Old player coming back after a six month break, and looking to start getting into the swing of things once again! Granted, I’m kind of angling to take this from a radically different direction this time. Instead of looking for friends, allies and drinking buddies, I’m going to start by looking for people to just beat the shit out of my Seeker dude! Gives a new angle of meaning to the phrase, “Making Connections.” Ahem. Anyway! Specifically, I’m looking for IC enemies and rivals, but I’m moreso looking for players who are willing to work with me on crafting long-term conflicts and struggles to fuel character development. This sort of thing interests me pretty strongly, because conflict and struggle is generally a great means to net some solid character development. It also has the side benefit of just flat-out making IC life fairly interesting and giving characters a whole lot more to talk about when they’re shooting the breeze during downtime. Of course, you’re probably thinking, “Hold up- this kind of thing is cool and all, but IC conflicts usually turn into OOC drama. What’s the catch?” So, here’s the “catch.” I’m not really interested in who wins or loses, and I certainly don’t mind having my character be a punching bag or even ending up on the losing side all of the time. In fact, I tend to think the angle of playing-to-lose is the best way to play- development doesn’t happen from winning as much as it does from losing, after all! Furthermore, I just want anyone involved in the whole shindig to have fun. If you’re not having fun, then I want to make adjustments to fix that. To that end, I’m also a huge proponent of transparency to whatever comfort degree is required. There’s a strong case to be made for immersion in not knowing what’s on the next page of the book, but you also want to be able to trust that the other author isn’t going to pop a wheelie on you suddenly. Really, that’s kind of what this is: a small-scale, multi-author project for folks to jump into where nobody has to handle the dungeon master role, and therefore doesn’t know entirely what’s on the next page of the book, but there’s enough of a conflict and story going to keep the pages turning! If I’ve still got your attention here, I’ll dive down into the storyline “hooks.” The quick dossier on J’vahlis Tia is that he’s a Seeker of the Sun that’s not native to Eorzea. He came from a tribe in Gyr Albania, was conscripted into the Garlean military at a young age, and ultimately has spent the majority of his life in the army since then. In the last decade, however, he was assigned to a dangerous project in an ancient Allagan ruin where he and others went MIA (presumed dead) after contact was lost with the research team and the site sealed off. He’s crossed the Wall now and is ‘hiding’ in Gridania while he advances his own secretive work. So, here’s a variety of ideas as lead-ins, including a few ideas which are more mundane if you want something a little more low key: As an ex-Garlean conscript that has gone AWOL, he could become the target of either Garlean loyalists or members of the Grand Companies that pick up on his trail. He’s caught in no-man’s land! He has a particular fixation on religious sites in Eorzea, and might be found sniffing around them or potentially looting or defiling them for his research. Some folks would probably take offense to this, but that's just my gut feeling. This leads into… ...his apparent research into what he calls “Ophiuchus”- the 13th Zodiac, and a recurring mention in both mythology and the Final Fantasy series. (NOTE: Although this is a major storyline point for him and involves a fair bit of lore ‘creation,’ it is also designed to be easily explained away so it will be compliant with even lore purists. It is up to the player and character how to treat it!) He wields powers of darkness and shadow at a very competent level similar to an Ishgardian Dark Knight, but professes no link to them otherwise. He could be viewed with deep suspicion or even seen as an abomination. He sort of follows the general Dark Knight mentality of being an anti-hero, but errs more on the darker side. (NOTE: Once again, this involves some lore ‘creation’ as an interpretation of how DRK mechanics work and function in RP. Because it isn’t a canon interpretation- no matter how well it fits to connect existing mechanics or how much it makes sense- I try to avoid branding him as an actual DRK.) In pursuit of material spell components and alchemy reagents, he can be found nearly anywhere in Eorzea. He might even go so far as to accost a merchant or shakedown someone for what he needs, and he may also need substances that are hard to find or outright illegal. Of course, he could be waylaid for his bounty of materials just as easily! On the low-intensity spectrum, for those that hate coffee, are allergic to caffeine, or hate gourmet dessert, he is an avid coffee enthusiast and is driven to find a blend of coffee for each individual that's perfect for them. He brews coffee like its alchemy, and takes it pretty seriously. He could easily end up in a rivalry against another brewer or a tea enthusiast. Also on the low-intensity spectrum, he is suspicious of any man without a beard and is an outspoken proponent of facial hair in men. He has several sayings of wisdom in this area. Harming his own beard in any manner is a most grievous offense. And that’s about it as far as the opening salvo of ideas goes. Of course, I’m happy to entertain your own thoughts and ideas too, and I welcome constructive criticism. All in all, I aim to keep this pretty laid back, cooperative, transparent, and fun! Although I am primarily seeking rivals and enemies here, a lot of the ideas above could easily be turned around, so I’m not going to turn away folks who are interested in being friends or allies by any stretch. I’m just trying to stack the deck against myself to start with this time! If you’re at all interested, feel free to respond here, PM me, or just tap me on Discord. We can get into personal preferences on what limits you'd like observed (a mutual limit of character death being implied, but anything else as far as no-go I totally want to know about). Typically I am available throughout the week from 5:00 PM CST until 11:00 PM CST, and all day on the weekends. RP is pretty much one of the big pillars of why I play FFXIV, so I’m pretty much always down for a spree. I try to vary where I pop up in the game world, but I’m happy to accommodate walk-ups and spontaneous encounters.
