I don't really know how treasure hunts work in-game, do you only need combat classes at 50 to participate?

London Fanfest Premium Stream Information (second hand notes)
Jana replied to Delilah Scythewood's topic in FFXIV Discussion
>Tank class ehhhhh I won't be able to play it endgame then. At least I'll have bigsordz for RP. Hoping gunz won't be a healing class because then I'll probably never get it leveled to 60,, but they might be just because there isn't a new healing class yet ;-; -
DARK KNIGHT CONFIRMED!!! Oh, and other junk...
Jana replied to Zac Evans's topic in FFXIV Discussion
It's just a redirect to this: http://www.novacrystallis.com/2014/10/yoshi-p-talks-heavenswards-flying-mounts-new-primals-dark-knight-and-gunner-classed-teased/ -
When I RPed a villain in TERA, most of her victims were NPCs; rather, they had to be: They were ether all corpses or soon to be. If I have my FFXIV character become more villainous, her targets will again be NPCs; can't play a serial killer if no one dies. In both cases, there were/will be times that my character would come into conflict with other people's characters, and I wouldn't expect anyone to willingly let me kill them. It's also why I really value OOC communication (and will never understand why people remove OOC communication channels from view when they're doing RP).

The hooded figure pulled her cowl over her head as much as she could as she read the flyer, which had been somehow posted even in Little Ala Mhigo. "Hmph... Like I care..." she muttered to herself, but she took the image of the face and ingrained into into her memory as she checked her supplies. She was "borrowing" a Roegadyn name for now, so it wouldn't be a bad thing if she ran into someone who didn't already know her name and face, especially if it was just a kid.

Other NPCs have been able to see the Moogle NPCs and they likely didn't all have the Echo, so I don't think you have to worry about that. Also, since others mentioned something about the Echo feeling "tacked-on" to characters, I think part of that may be just that not everyone understands how it's supposed to work. It was only very recently that Sounssy corrected me on what I thought were the minimal parts of it, so my character hasn't had any "visions" in her background (though with where she is now, it would be an interesting time to start). And things like fighting primals are often "off-screen."

Actually in 1.0, the Player Character was the only Echo user in all of the Path of the Twelve who had the ability to understand all languages. So it's more likely a rare trait. The only two commonplace traits are the ability to go inside other people's minds and resist tempering. That we've seen so far. Sounsyy corrected me on this one not too long ago, so if you wanted your character to have the bare minimum of the Echo, you wouldn't need to give him/her the ability to understand all languages. That said, you're also totally free to give them a more powerful Echo if you wish! It hasn't really come up in RP yet, but I'll probably keep the language ability on my character who has the Echo, even if it was from an incorrect remembrance... On the other hand, RPing a dive into someone else's mind can be tricky to pull off, especially if the target is another RP character. It might be easy to pull OOC information from their profile or wiki, but you should still check with the player first!

Something about your character few know...
Jana replied to Erik Mynhier's topic in Character Workshop
This is coming up more and more often lately, but Jana's very vindictive. Her overall driving goal has always been payback for something or other, even if the exact target shifts from time to time. It's also why I RP her as having only the Titan-Egi (at this time): Titan's reason for attacking in the story is vengeance against the "sons of man" driving the Kobolds out of territory that is rightfully theirs, much how Jana feels about the Garleans setting up shop in Castrum Oriens. -
My character is an adventurer with the Echo, so she's already more powerful than most. But to get the title I wanted to use for her, I needed to level all of the combat classes to 50 and then complete the Relic quest with each and every one. While Jana is a very strong character, it'd be going way overboard (as well as WAY over the line for most, if not all, RPers) to say she's obtained the maximum amount of power possible for every combat discipline. Most people have already said it in a better way, but I think you should be free to play your character's combat expertise however you want, no matter their level! It won't matter in some situations anyway; my 50-All character has been beaten at a dice-based combat tournament by someone who went and unlocked PGL at level 1 to be able to use the stances! On the flip side, like some people have also already said, I'll approach a very low-level character as a "new adventurer" by default unless they tell me otherwise. Part of it comes from my approach to MMO RP: I rip through as much story as I can to take in the lore before I begin RPing, so seeing someone brand-new leads me to think they might not know much about the world around them just yet.

Actually, if I remember correctly, the echo manifests in different way for different people. Minfilia and the PC can see into the past and such, but many people don't have such a wide array of gifts. Being able to resist tempering and understanding other languages seem to be the only constant. I might be mis-remembering though.

My character's still the only one I know of IC who has the echo, which has led to her keeping it kind of a secret. A lot of RPers seem to play soldiers or mercenaries as opposed to titled adventurers though, maybe that has something to do with it...

Expansion Announced: Heavensward, releasing Spring 2015
Jana replied to Zyrusticae's topic in FFXIV News
Leveling and exploring is fun once, but I'm not looking forward to going from 50 to 60 22 or more times... -
I don't really... Listen to much music.

I guess the OP is asking more about the climate of the areas than the in-game weather effects? I actually base many of my RP outfits around the climate of wherever I'm going to RP, and I treat every zone differently. It'd be quite a bit of typing to cover eerything but I kind of play it by eye. I treat parts of La Noscea as quite mild (especially those that can get the Wind and Gale weathers) in comparison to the tropical climate of Eastern L.N. I don't even believe that an entire in-game zone would feel the same; I treat southern South Shroud as mucky marshland, warm and humid, and apply some of this "humidity" to the parts of Eastern Thanalan that border it (they're even greener than the rest of that particular zone). But the northern part of South Shroud seems like a more temperate forest, and the area around Urth's Gift even seems cool (it being a large cave, rather than a different climate area). Parts of the North Shroud would be very cool; the MGQ that leads into Coerthas even mentions that the cold from Coerthas Central Highlands is spreading southwards. But it would again feel much more temperate to me west from Fallgourd Float. This is largely just my opinions though. I wouldn't badmouth anyone who didn't really play the same way.

I've used some real-life vulgarity as Jana, largely inspired by Sergeant Swygrael in the relevant Moogle Mail quest; unfortunately I cannot remember the exact vulgarities she used... Only that I was surprised she used it. But I took it as evidence that our everyday swear words probably exist in Eorzea. Even it's it the sort of thing that only a pirate would use, Jana spent a lot of time studying in La Noscea, nervously rubbing elbows with them. While I would like to get into the habit of using "colorful" Eorzean swears, Jana curses (aloud) so rarely that a single F-bomb often feels more impactful.

I actually asked about this in the lore question collection thread for Fan Fest. Fingers crossed!

Actually, is it supposed to be a big secret or something? Nobody named him at all until Nat mentioned that he's fine with it OOC.
-
*wedgies* Kind of on the topic of death in RP, I'm definitely having fun RPing out Jana's grief. Though I don't know how it's going to play out yet and just how temporary it will be.
-
Too bad Nat's gone, she was my favorite source of public embarrassment for Jana. I talked about Jana's views IC, but not OOC views. I'm really up for whatever happens during te course of RP, though I won't permit it to leak OOCly. ...I don't think there's really much else for me to say, though.
-
((I like to let the direction of RP influence what happens in my character's development; Jana has an end goal but whether it changes or if she can even reach it is left out of my hands on purpose. But in this case, she's not going to seek out anyone ICly, which complicates things for me. Since I've yet to decide where to take her on my own, I'm willing to have her run into people or be found by anyone looking for her. And I know it's hard to find RPers in Thanalan outside of Ul'dah, so I thought I'd share that Jana will be around Black Brush. Feel free to drop me a line or post here if you'd be interested in setting something up for later; I know a few you of you might be!))

A worm-eaten corpse, whispering into her ear as they embraced. "I want to talk about us..." Jana woke up in a cold sweat, perhaps a feat in and of itself with the sun in middle of the Thanalan sky. The sandstorm that had concealed her had concluded some time ago, and as Jana slowly pulled herself onto her feet and shook sand out of her bedroll, she could clearly see that the distance to the Jewel of the Desert wasn't as great as she had hoped. But as she sat and bit into a piece of flatbread, her dream floated back to the top of her mind. Natalie hadn't been directly involved in the "campaign" against the Crows and their cult (at least, not as far as she knew). But other Sworn and Flames had been. Surely, one of them would have known to cremate the body of Natalie McBeef? The question echoed in her mind as Jana tried to find a water flask she'd given away the night before. "To the mercenary woman Natalie died saving..." Cursing as she licked her dry lips, Jana sat in the shade of her boulder and began ripping her bedroll into rags and thread. No matter where she went, she was going to need to travel in Thanalan, and she would need to conceal herself for some time. She had thrown her mask away in Vesper Bay, so she would need to come up with a new way. Finding a needle in her bag let her take inventory quickly: She had no real armor and her only weapons were her tome and a pair of leather cesti, darksteel spikes poking through. It would be enough for now, and if she concealed her identity, she wouldn't even need to keep her casting such a secret. Still, she had no more food and water; she had packed for a single night's voyage, after all. It was supposed to be a smash and grab. Maybe knock out some guards while Natalie and those who knew more found what they needed to find. Jana should have known something was wrong the second she saw that bomb nut and the dark-skinned highlander woman. Explosions and flames had rocked the suddenly well-guarded warehouse, and she didn't even know what kind of papers they had been there for, exactly. Only that they had failed to secure them. Trying and failing to put the memories out of her mind, Jana began to sew.

Huddled against a boulder in the middle of a sandstorm, Jana Ridah - Professional Adventurer, Flame Corporal, Secret Summoner, and Champion Pugilist - curled up in her bedroll and cried. The howling winds whipped up enough sand to block out the desert sunrise, conveniently hiding the tired Keeper who had spent the entire prior night walking from Vesper Bay. But even as her body had grown too tired keep moving, her mind kept racing. How could it not? She had a lot to decide on after the death of Natalie McBeef. She had to decide where she would go. La Noscea and Ul'dah were out of the question. The Shroud to the east was possible, but she didn't have to stop somewhere she had such distaste for. Maybe she could keep going north to Mor Dhona, try to rebuild a career as an anonymous adventurer. Or even hide out in the snowy woods of Coerthas. Maybe she didn't even have to leave Thanalan. To the south were the Amalj'aa lands, plenty of work for adventurers there who could kill beastmen. Drybone was to the east, which could provide her some work among refugees to lie even lower. And there was plenty of desert to get lost and die in between the two. She had to decide what to do. She would be limited by where she went, but she could continue her studies. Her arcanima tome was one of the few things she'd brought with her, after all, and she still had some of the tools in her bag. The selfsame tools Natalie had used to heal some clueless mercenary before she'd died. And the same ones that had failed Jana when she tried to save her. Jana reached into her bag and threw a pair of pliers into the desert. Five seconds later, she wriggled out of her bedroll and retrieved it. She still needed to decide how she felt. Jana had gone from anger to sorrow to anger to sorrow, as often as she'd put her left foot in front of her right. Anger at this Oscare, anger at herself, anger at the deceased Natalie. And sorrow... There wasn't any need to try and analyze that. As she rolled over and shut her eyes, wiping her streaked face one more time, she couldn't help but think about the life she was so close to having... A house to live in, good food, good friends, and even someone to sleep next to every night. How long would it be until she could have that kind of life after this?

Jana has always preferred women in terms of looks but never thought much about sex until she was kidnapped for use as a blood sacrifice. She (incorrectly) assumed she was chosen because she was a virgin, and even after her rescue had been reluctant to accept even minor PDA. The question of whether her virginity is something worth killing her over has forced the topic into her mind, making her even more scared to go through with the act. The fact that the only person she was prepared to do it with died before she could get around to it will likely only make things worse for her.

TERA wasn't my first MMO (that would be Mabinogi), but it was my first experience RPing in one. Dr. Jana was a very fun character and has definitely influenced my RP to the point that I never really let go of playing her, making my FFXIV character's concept being a younger version of her. How could I not, after playing such a charming lady doctor, world traveler, mad scientist, ecoterrorist, and winner of the prestigious Most #Based Cat award for 2012? I even had a story telling event that I hosted on the server. It was pretty popular for a time. Jana was supposed to end up getting killed off, but was saved by the power of friendship. She's officially been retired as an RP character since TERA doesn't have a community conducive to making a big plotline or story, but I like to think Jana's retired to the tropics, sipping margaritas instead of drinking herself unconscious and watching Elin dance-offs instead of forcing them into experiments. I still visit my PvE-focused friends from time to time to chitchat IC.
