Does your character have a trinket of some sort?

"Does your character have a trinket of some sort that reminds them of someone whom they hold dear?"

Soooo does your character?

Kage wears a white beret. First it reminds him of Natalie, who is now dead but one he held dear. It also reminds him of his oaths and time spent with both her and Roen Deneith. He wears it constantly.

Another item that he keeps is a repurposed piece of metal he had made. It was originally a ring he had made as a proposal ring but after everything that happened Kage has made it into something that he's put in a gem inlay for a choker that he wears. Obviously, it represents Natalie but it also represents his link to the people he'd give his life for, and the lives of the people he wished he had.

Another thing is a dry pressed necklace that he received from a Miqo’te named C’kayah Tia. C’kayah had meant a lot to him, before they parted ways quite… horribly. The necklace was a sort of herbal remedy that would help Kage’s labored breathing after an attempt on Kage’s life. It still means quite a bit to the lalafell, no matter how strained his relationship with C’kayah has been now.

V'aleera's father is, among other things, a fairly skilled woodworker. After enlisting in the service of knight as a squire and officially joining the ranks of Ishgard's military, her father would give her a hand-carved wooden icon depicting Halone's sigil every time she would return home on leave. She now has a small collection of them she keeps with her, and will often wear one into battle either as a necklace or tied around an arm by twine or chain.

Mmm the only thing I can think of is Otto's recent acquisitions of the achievement rings you got for creating 300 different items. I got one for GSM and WVR and wear them in my fashion sets. I am in the process of writing up a story that explores that achievement / lore with the guilds and will mention how so few get them (which is also true achievement wise). Probably one of the only things he's proud of.

Ganale carries a small white dagger with the pommel fashioned in the likeness of a hawk. It was a gift given to him by Sabine in recognition of his observant nature. Ironically, he's as dumb as a brick when it comes to recognizing any feelings she has for him, but that's as much due to crippling self-esteem issues causing him to willfully seek a more 'fitting' explanation for any aside glances or things she does that indicate her feelings, such as trying to alter her sleep schedule to spend time with him.

R'tahz has his wedding ring. Bit trite, I know, but it represents not only his love for J'karu but the peak of his romantic ideals, such that it's always on his person, either worn where it belongs or on a chain around his neck when he's wearing armored gloves that could cause a pinch hazard.

None of the rest really have anything, though. Probably should work on that.

Jajara has been terrible about keeping keepsakes. She has had several throughout her life: a watch from her father, a gem from her mother, a ring from her once-husband, but all of these things have been lost or misplaced. She has crafted herself another gem, one of those that you might see other lalafell wearing on their foreheads. She does not wear it, however, as the time is not yet right.

Delial has a knife. It does not belong to her but it was given to her and she has kept it ever since. It has been used several times for reasons she thought were just, but the sight of it has always brought her dread. She does not know why she keeps it. She remains compelled.

May contain spoilers, or just odd curiosities:

  • Her mothers necklace that is dedicated to Althyk, the Keeper
  • Earrings from a former.. something, not sure, but they are precious
  • A magical tome she can't open but she senses parts of her are in there
  • A dagger she was told is from her Grandmother an infamous Pirate
  • She somehow had a wedding ring but gave it to a Lalafell, with a warning
  • A locket that contains five different strands of hair woven together, she cries when she opens it but does not know why
  • An old wooden wand, that she may have carved from a bigger wand, that is linked to her mentor the great Shroud Witch Kraggey Nel
  • If boots count she is gaining quite a collection, each with their own story

Aaron's Misericordes are a memento of his friend who left La Noscea for greater things when Aaron was little.

His white hair is technically a memory of his mom who's somewhere in Domain atm. He won't dye it not matter how much he says he hates it.

Reima keeps a sliver of crystal, suspended from a chain that she wears as a necklace. She affectionately refers to it as a family heirloom, though she can't quite remember if that's the case. Either way, she keeps it as a good luck charm!

She also has a fondness for collecting music boxes.  While she doesn't actively travel about with the lot of them, she makes a point to ensure that at least one of them is close at hand for longer sojourns.

Braeya loved a highlander man once with hair as red as blood. She holds onto a small worn and battered leather journal of the same colour that is half filled with one set of hand writing and now is slowly being filled with another.

Another trinket she bears is a small anklet that has no clasp and such can not be removed without cutting the chain. Her family gave it to her so that she might never forget them. The materials used to make it are expensive and such it also serves as a just in case wearable emergency fund, where surviving might outweigh the nostalgic value.

Kestlona doesn't have any trinket yet.  Though I plan on her getting Alex's feather bandanna.

John on the other hand carried his sister sunstone choker with him, which she was wearing when she was killed during the Battle of Carteneau.  Also the book that hold Kit's spirit, which he stole from a merchant.  The choker, I already planing out story ideas for it later.

Solis's bandana is his most prized possession. It used to belong to his father and is used as a memento to him. Sol held his father in deep regard and wishes to reunite with him someday. You can always see Solis wearing his dad's bandana on his head, unless on certain times. Solis is almost never seen without his bandana.

Niklas's is a family portrait showing him as a baby, with his Eorzean mother, and his Garlean father, the part of which was originally torn off until recently so Nik did not know he was half-Garlean until recently. His personal item is his sword Gran Ragnell, a sword with Curtana's design that he forged himself from some Orichalcon, a very hard material, and is very sharp and durable, serving Niklas well in all of his adventures. This is the only sword that Niklas prefers to use.

Rena's are her circlet and her coeurl pareo. The circlet is considered a family heirloom for Rena's tribe, since her family was like the head branch of the tribe. Once worn by her father, it now belongs to Rena and she cherishes so. As for the pareo, it was sewed together from coeurl parts by Niklas for Rena to wear back when he found her in a Coerthan cave due to her current clothes at the time being dirty, tattered, brown and bloodied. The pareo serves as Rena's most valuable possession and her trademark clothing.

Max's are his glasses. He may have an entire library of knowledge, but his personal trinket are his glasses, which he uses to see, read, and just wear. Without his glasses on, he is almost blind, having groped a woman once by pure accident.

Sakura's are her ninja-tou, and her cherry blossom choker and earrings. These items remind Sakura of her home back in Doma, and she holds to them fondly.

Celes's is her circlet.

Virara is not the sentimental sort, thus when she holds onto something, it is often unconscious, or simply because it was a gift and she's trying to be respectful, with a few notable exceptions.

Eyepatch: An oddly shaped eyepatch. It is made from several strips of goatskin leather and a few bronze fittings, and some soft cotton cloth. Virara made this herself when she was young in imitation of her Master. She continues to wear it as if doing so is self-evident, but rarely thinks of it in symbolic terms, like whether or not it represents a connection between the two of them, or is a sign of her desire for them to face each other again.

Adamantoise Shell Hora: Made by someone very important to her. Virara knows that as robust as it is, under her full strength the intricately crafted and finely lacquered hora would be scratched or possibly even broken, so she avoids using them for actual combat or training. They're clearly made with an eye for functionality as well as highly individualized aesthetics, the work of someone extremely skilled.

Peach Blossom Earrings: Given to her by the first girl she could consider a close friend. They are crafted from finely tooled pieces of rose quartz arrayed in a pattern with silver wire that makes them almost resemble real peach blossoms. They appear to be quite expensive, and clash with Virara's typical functional and boyish manner of dress. Although apricot blossoms are a more familiar sight to her, she finds herself treasuring these rarely-worn pieces of jewelry almost unconsciously.

Arrowhead Earrings: Of significantly less sentimental value, these are simple earrings that are made from steel arrowheads, and the first jewelry she ever owned. Obviously, despite being made from arrowheads, they're not sharp and can't be used for combat. The inner part has metal removed and hollowed out so as not to be too heavy on the ears. However, Virara has soft (both naturally and from being beaten about the head too much) ears that naturally droop very slightly, so it does at times give that impression if not worn very close to the head.

Hair ribbons: Plain scarlet hair ribbons made of cotton. They are of no value at all and can be found practically everywhere. Virara, however, will not change her hairstyle, nor remove the ribbons, as both were given to her by Master. The thought of doing anything else is totally out of consideration for her.

Val's daggers, while otherwise considered simple and plain by most people, have been with him since Limsa. They hold a special meaning to him, though he's never spoken about it to anyone.

While not necessarily a trinket, Melfice's scar along his face is something he absolutely refuses to have healed or modified. It means the world to him.

Cyrus' armor, while otherwise shoddy and beaten up, is a family heirloom passed down to him from his mother.

Chachan has had a trinket he's carried with him since his creation - his cactaur earring.

As has oft been alluded to in RP and other things, it's a memento left by his brother before leaving to pursue his own dreams. Due to the lack of contact - and the razing of Doma - it is effectively the only thing he has left to remind him of his older brother. Whenever he talks about his brother, or even thinks about Gogonji, he tends to fiddle and play with it unconsciously. He's also rather protective of it, for obvious reasons.

Gogonji, of course, maintains the other half of the pair - but it's more of a morbid keepsake. After all, he believes his family is dead, so the earring is all that he has left of them beyond his memories. He's still just as protective of it - if not moreso.

Hammer's got a set of brass earrings he keeps highly polished and worn any time they're not being cleaned and cared for.

What that means is anyone's guess.

He also keeps knives from people he ends up killing in notable fights. There's a big collection of them by this point, each one has a story. Sometimes he's carrying several of them on him.

Two small rusty keys. She knows who they belonged to and theoretically what they unlock, but not how they came into her possession. Every time she tries to throw them away they do the whole creepy-doll-show-up-again trope, so she's just given up and they're usually pocketed or in the side of her boot.

One knife, plain. She had plans for the knife and might still have plans for it, so it never gets far from her person.

One dodo earring. Not a gift, but a memorial of sorts nonetheless. Plus, I love how its hilarity offsets her perpetual angry gloomface.

One Tipping Scales ring. For her, it's like a sort of years-of-service award. She doesn't usually wear it and leaves it at home, but considers it a keepsake nonetheless.

His Halberd. U'roh was given that Colbolt Halberd as a parting gift from his mentor, one of her old spears. He carries that thing everywhere and it has been his weapon ever since he had started adventuring, almost always kept in good condition.

As well as a hand crafted gold ring, reminder of his beloved.

Coatleque has a plain ring carved from a seashell that was given to her by someone from her past. It shows signs of passing through fire at some point, and a crack which has been repaired. She keeps it in a small wooden container by her bedside.

She has also obtained a scorched and somewhat melted locket which belongs to someone she cares for. She intends to have it restored when she is able and return it to him if possible.

D'aito Kuji has a ring that belonged to her sire, Kuji Nuhn.  While D'aito was not especially close to her sire, she keeps the ring to remind her of what she lost when he was illegitimately overthrown by Kujo Tia.  D'aito was close to Kujo Tia who had taken a special interest her.  Kujo helped educate D'aito and encouraged her adventurous ways, teaching her many useful skills.  It became increasingly clear that his interest in D'aito was romantic.  After she rejected him multiple times, he swore revenge and poisoned the Nuhn before challenging him for the right to become Nuhn.

D'aito was not impressed to say the least.

After discovering that D'aito knew about the illegitimacy of his position, Kujo suspected that she would reveal the secret to the tribe.  But D'aito understood that without a Nuhn, the tribe would become unstable and more damage could be done by that than by keeping the secret.  D'aito would keep Kujo's secret as long as she was allowed to leave.  But Kujo was not satisfied and tried to have her killed, fearing that he could not best her in combat.  After threatening her sisters, D'aito Kuji ran away and sneaked onto a merchant's caravan and made her way to the coast.  She stowed away on a ship bound for parts unknown.

She swore revenge on Kujo Nuhn and she keeps her sire's ring to remind her.
