List of Xaela Tribes

Recommended Posts

The following lists contain members of both official and unofficially declared Xaela tribes wherein both existing and former members of such settings can help establish links, personal lore and backstories to greater enhance the reach of their characters' lives.

Tribes that have yet to have a single person claim to be a part of will not be listed here until such a time occurs.

You may post to have yourself listed under any tribe of your choosing(with exception, of course, to player-made tribes that self-moderate their applicants) before choosing a name though please try to remember to come back when a decision has been made. Lore-friendly names are encouraged but certainly not required!

Light discussion and commentary is very welcome in this thread albeit detailed discussion and suggestions for individual and specific tribes would best be held in another setting.

A post has recently been made regarding the viability of a second, wholly discussion-based thread here.

Non-Discovered Tribe's in Use:  (Player-made)

Ayanga Tribe:

"The Ayanga Warband is a nomadic clan of battle-born Xaela that roamed the mountain valleys of the Western Steppes. They are vicious and merciless taking most of their resources from raiding and pillaging caravans and encampments. Although the notion is disputed, some believe the Ayanga an offshoot of the larger Dotharl Clan. In truth, warriors of most clans are welcomed so long as they complete the Ayanga rites of passage – a series of grisly tests meant to measure fearlessness in the face of death and pain most of which involving withstanding some form of torture.

The Warband is heavily steeped in superstitions and traditions, and pride themselves on being fearless. Among their more peculiar beliefs is the notion that the soul is housed within the heart, and to consume the heart is to ingest the soul. This has lead many to label the band as cannibals, particularly after witnessing the mutilated remains of their enemies, but to the Ayanga the act serves only a ritualistic purpose.

Whether fleeing Garlean oppression or heeding the omens of their shamans, the Ayanga Warband took to the seas on a hijacked vessel bound for Eorzean shores. They are led by the diminutive yet fearsome Kokachin, a dark skinned Noykin who slew her own brother in a challenge for leadership.

While they find themselves a long way from the steppes, the hearts of the Ayanga remain as fearless and vicious as ever.

“The Ayanga Take!”- Ayanga battle-cry."

Noyakir Tribe:

"The Noyakir once made their home in a vast system of caves in the northern mountains of Othard, but due to a major cave-in, its remains have begun to scatter. The cave-dwellers, once miners and crafters, fishermen and look-outs, now have only rubble and broken homes. The wanderers, once hunters and traders, now have no place to which they can return. Those who are of able-body have made their decision either to stay, to search for another home, or to join a new tribe."

Thought to be freaks of nature, the members of the Khatagin are savage and phantom-like. These semi-nomadic tribal Xaela prefer assassination over direct conflict, using fear and superstition to smother their enemies."

Qeyin Tribe:

"The central tenet of the Qeyin revolves around imitation of animals. This is reflected in always keeping on the move, living off the land, and only entering a confrontation if victory is assured. They believe it is the greatest honor to battle against a great predator one on one and slay it. Their love and imitation is also reflected in their shapeshifting and glamour magick that they use to either appear as, or turn into animals for a short time.

They travelled along the upper foothills of Othard's Northern mountains. They moved camp every two weeks or so, keeping their presence hidden through powerful glamours that their 'spell-weavers' would cast every time they made camp. The only interaction they had with other tribes were in guerrilla-style hit and run raids for supplies and food.  When they would come into proximity with another tribe, they would carefully scout it and deem whether it was significantly stronger, or weaker than their own. If the tribe was significantly weaker than them they would raid it, but if stronger, they would avoid all contact and conceal themselves. This isolationism has created an even more tightly knit social paradigm within the tribe.

The magick of their tribe was limited to powerful glamour and shapeshifting magick that they believe was handed down to them by the Dusk Mother herself. These spell-weavers were responsible for concealing the tribe's camp, and transforming tribe members into various animals which they referred to as 'spiritshifting'. Their uses of spiritshifting ranged from scouting to gathering to a certain few of their warriors who preferred to go into battle as powerful beasts. Spiritshifting into any intelligent race is forbidden as they believe it borrows a creature's soul.

They travelled to the land of Doma to assist them in their rebellion against the Empire at the behest of one of their own who had left the tribe to dwell there. When the Empire retaliated, they lost more than half of their tribe and now number around two score in number. They fled with the Doman refugees and now dwell in Revenant's Toll under the guise of Hyurs under Doman orders to keep a low profile. Weary of city life, they long to return to their traditional ways and are scouting for a way to cross the Ishgardian border and disappear into the wild Northlands."

Toshin Tribe:

"At the age of 10, every child of the Toshin tribe start their training and are schooled in the arts of war.

At the age of 15, they go through the rites of passage into adulthood where they were sent alone into the mountains and have to survive from one full moon to the next during the harsh winter.

Despite these vigorous training regimes, the Toshin, unlike certain Xaelan tribes, are not without compassion. For the seldom occurring case where a child is born weak or disfigured, the absence of a future along the path of a warrior does not seem to exile the hope of one being allowed to remain as part of the tribe - though the standard to which they are held by their peers is something left to be entirely subjective.

Following the Garlean invasion of Othard, the Toshin found themselves in the midst of a bitter struggle against their would-be oppressors. Though they fought their enemies with great ferocity, the Garleans' superior technology and firepower brought the entire tribe to the brink of extinction.

Forced to flee to other Xaelan tribes for aid, it was soon discovered, however, that of the other tribes encountered, all were equally in danger of suffering the same fate. Banding together, the Xaelan tribes journeyed to the city-state of Doma where their cousin clan, the Raen, resided alongside the Doman Hyurs. With the threat of complete annihilation by the Garlean invasion, the Xaelan tribes were forced into making peace with the Raen and join them as they had to flee the continent, sailing to the Western continent of Eorzea where they were granted exile."

Tumet Tribe(OOC)

I actually conceptualized my Xaela's backstory way before all the tribal lore was released. (Such a massive amount of information - I still wish it could've been released earlier for us to plan, but I shan't complain further because of how amazing it all is!) So I've had to do a lot of splicing and tweaking here and there to fit my character into the tribes.

Currently, it seems that my witch doctor / bard lady was born a Tumet but drifted into the Qalli tribe much later in life. I'll be doing more with the beliefs and possible shamanistic inclinations, if any, related to the Tumet clan and the 'sacred trees' - and K'nahli, I absolutely agree with you on the tribe's emphasis on strength and discipline!

100-word descriptions honestly give us quite a bit of flexibility with what we want to do with our characters in their respective tribes, so I'm hoping we'll all manage to make our headcanons work together, somehow.

So, when are we going to all start shouting at the Torgud to take a damn bath and put on some clothes?

For me. . . the concept for my Au Ra and the one the Garleans nicknamed Vera-mortis, the Dotharl or Borlaaq tribes would suit.

Or, to get into Eorzea faster; I could go Kha. It still works.

Or Himaa and someone can play my sister!

Will you be listing what characters belong to which tribe in this thread?

If not, I think it would be very helpful to create a master list of both pre-made and player made tribes and which characters belong to them.

That isn't a bad idea. I may start up a thread then to get a database going.

Looks like the first post was already updated. WOO!

In my case, I am definitely going with Dotharl for my Xaela's tribe.  Not only is it sensible by her back story's standards, but the description offered puts in mind a group of individuals who pride themselves on their ability to kill.

It's fitting for a mercenary to have been raised by those savages!

Well fudge, I was thinking of rolling Hotgo. Looks like I made an enemy already. :surprise:

Himaa

For reasons unknown, one out of every three pregnancies amongst the Himaa result in twins. As a result, over half the tribe's members have a doppelganger. This can prove an advantage during attacks, as it confuses the enemy into believing the dead have risen.

So, someone on tumblr was thinking of rolling this tribe if they could find someone else to play a twin with them. I am going to paraphrase what I said on tumblr here which is basically that I believe this tribe would still be interesting to play even without a twin.

There is a chance for inner drama here, presumably. Much of the tribe's identity and combat strategies lie in its natural born twins. Even though only one out of three births result in twins, the fact that two children are produced a time result in roughly 67% (math check?) of the tribe's population to be twins.

Imagine then that if a large chunk of the tribe is a twin, a lot of the tribe's identity comes from its population of twins, and their fighting strategy rest as well with twins....

What does that mean for any tribe of men or women who are not twins?

Perhaps they have an inferiority complex. They don't have a twin, therefore they are not as valued in combat. The culture of the tribe probably draws upon twins as well, resulting in the twin-less having an existential crisis.

I'm probably going with this tribe too, though I'm on the fence as to whether my character would have a twin or not. Like you say though, I don't think you specifically need another player to roll the twin, though it would certainly be interesting. There's no reason you can't have fun with this one alone or as someone whose twin is basically an NPC in the background.

That said, totally open to working with someone who wants a twin. >.>

Currently working on a lesser tribe that we've named the Xura (pronounced; Zur-haa)!

Xura - "To Gather" in Mongolian

Led by the enigmatic Kroin of the Dotharl, the Xura tribe has currently spanned over three generations. Their strange leader claims to have been present since the beginning (yet there is no proof to support this) and as such is rumoured to be hundreds of years old - a whimsical trait of Kroin is his assignment of titles to his tribe, despite his birth tribe’s bloodthirsty nature.

Seeking the strongest of warriors, Kroin travelled far to gather Elders from the Tumet tribe - renowned for their tenth summer ritual of a survival trial and their proud traditions.

Taking effort to ensure the future of his new dynasty, Kroin sought out Elders from the Geneq tribe - initially as he found their ability to communicate in a similar manner to cloud and wave kin somewhat adorable, but also respecting the knowledge and patience it must have taken to perfect this art.

The final step was for safety, Kroin and his council of Elders travelled to seek the Kagon tribe - in particular two of their Sages (skilled practitioners of forbidden magicks) who left their superstitions of evil sun goddesses behind them.

Hahahaha! If they're quite isolated then they may initially have had trouble finding people with whom they can trade for clothing since I imagine that they're not very good at making it themselves.

Going Angura due to Flower's skin tone and was able to tweak her story a bit to make it work.

Though the marrying the horse thing..Wow.

It's interesting though!

Yes, that was the idea ^^  I was away for a while until now so I'll edit the opening post and add the confirmed tribes in a moment. Although I am not sure I quite understand what you mean by "pre-made" and "player-made".

Me and mine are going with Kha. There's about 8 or 9 of us.

Is this a private group or are you welcoming others to take part?

That actually sounds very interesting. I love that idea! For such a unique concept, I honestly didn't give it as much thought as it deserved... I guess because I was so focused on finding a tribe that suited me personally, haha. But really, that sounds very cool.

Ile be going with the Dhoro. Their obsession with staying hidden is what would cause my characters wanderlust to develop. I mean, a tribe that packs up everything the second a single "outsider" is spotted would tend to create a few individuals like that.

Goodness fucking gracious they dropped a lot of stuff with the tribes. Naming my xaela is going to be a hassle and a half.

I skimmed the tribes, and I doubt I'll be going with this one, but it definitely called something to mind when I read it.

Oronir

All members of the Oronir tribe believe themselves to be direct descendants of Azim, the tribe's god of the sun.

That spoiler bug is very annoying ;

Okay, I think I've added everyone who seemed more or less confident with their decision at least for the time being. If anyone else would like to be listed or removed then please let me know ^^

Also, if you have any suggestions for how to present the little tribe list then feel free to comment. Perhaps it could be made more pleasing to the eye or could be added to in ways I haven't considered yet!

Me and mine are going with Kha. There's about 8 or 9 of us.

Is this a private group or are you welcoming others to take part?

If people wanna join us they're welcome to!

Also names:

Lanhli Kha

Arato Kha

Ile "Ellion" Kha

Philomele Kha

Iron Rain (Real name: Sugar [pronounced Sooghar!] Kha)

Masaki Kha

Jousuke Kha

Sanzashi Kha

..some others who haven't committed to a name yet.

As you can see, some people didn't want to let go of their Japanese-y names, so Kha works because Raen influences make sense for them.

I'm completely settled on going with Himaa now, so if you're able to add them/me to the list I would be grateful. I'll post the name once I have one. I have an idea in mind but I'll wait and see if I can get it in game first.

Taking effort to ensure the future of his new dynasty, Kroin sought out Elders from the Geneq tribe - initially as he found their ability to communicate with cloud and wave kin somewhat adorable, but also respecting the knowledge and patience it must have taken to perfect this art.

I don't think they can actually communicate with cloud and wave kin -- I think they just use clicks similar to them :

"the Geneq employ a complex system of whistles and clicks which resemble the cloud- and wavekin of the steppe."

Honestly a lot of the tribe tidbits make me think of myths and tidbits from nomadic cultures around the globe. This one makes me think of the !Kung (who are a San people) - prolly part of why I love it so much.
