Please forgive any embarrassing typos- I'm on mobile in a doctors office.

For Z'zhumii Umi, she's aromantic and asexual.

She does not feel romantic or sexual attraction, and being raised in a tribal society where your mate is chosen for you on their and the tribes terms never really enforced any ideals about tru wuv.

She is one hell of an actress in her work, happy to play pretend based off what she has seen and read in her time in Ul'dah, but its all for show.

She is also happy with platonic relationships... But those are rarely as profitable.

Odile, on the other hand, is a romantic at heart.

She may not be able to read, but she's heard a good many romantic stories and had two parents who cared deeply for one another.

Despite this, she doesn't feel like the gods or aether have someone predestined for one another.

If she can find some happiness with another or two, shell have lived out her own personal faerietale.

What kinda love we talkin' here?

If it's in the romantic sense, Franz was in love once, or rather still is, with his wife he doesn't much about. It's a little sad, little things others do remind him of her, and it'll get him down. But at the same time, he barely remembers her name and face, and can't recall anything else.

If we're thinking love in the sense of comradery, then I would say Franz loves and is loved by  a good amount of people. For the ones that earn his trust one way or another, he'll give that extra effort for. Granted, he overly trusts a lot of people.

--

I would say Franz is still trying to return to his love. He's not sure if she's still there, or if he'll find her, but he won't stop until he can at least confirm things.

And oh God, if she's "moved on", that could be a very interesting turn.

There are two facets to this for Verad.

First, as Eorzea's Greatest Lover, he does not feel it would be fair of himself to tie himself only to one person. That's a squandering of talent, denying the world at large of his abilities. This is why so few of his relationships move past flirtation.

Second, and perhaps more significantly, he feels that on some level he doesn't deserve a committed relationship. He just doesn't know why.

A'zireena believes in love, though she goes about it all wrong. She lost her mother when Bahamut went on his killing spree, and her father is missing/dead through most of her life. She went from 'wanting to be a merchant' to 'wanting to be a warrior' out of a slightly misguided thing of wanting not to have others protect her. She seeks out love as a way to have some sort of family, someone she can rely on that can be a loophole of not protecting her, and she seeks it out.

The kicker is she's helpless before those that actually flirt with her, enjoying the attention far too much, and getting pulled in easily, despite what is sometimes in her best interest. She searches for romance too hard to not jump at anyone who flirts with her (er, that she enjoys).

Howl is an idealist lover along the lines of Roen.  His Ha-tribe was open to Tias mating under certain rules and conditions, so I think he thought love would be a "one day" type thing for him.  But he had a rather unfortunate augury read for him at his birth which he is deeply afraid of, being a strong believer in superstitions, signs, and omens like that (another tribal trait).

Of course, he did fall rather hard in love out of nowhere, to the point where he wasn't even really aware of it until the person turned him down.

Miko is the kind of girl that wouldn't be entirely aware she was in a relationship until someone kissed her. Then there'd be an awkward conversation or she'd just stare in shock while she figured it all out.

Once she realized it though she'd be a 100% or nothing kind of girl. She only had one "relationship" before and it was one of those childish kissing and holding hands thing rather than love, so she's still really innocent and thus vulnerable about the whole thing.

Kylin is emotionally messed up when it comes to love. To better illustrate it, here's some of the things he did in an attempt to win back a former love (Gerik) after Gerik had moved on with another (Burgenheim). It got progressively worse as time went on and desperation set in...

--Hired someone to pretend to be his date during a double date with Gerik/Burgenheim, in an attempt to make Gerik jealous and sow seeds of distrust to Burgenheim.

--Hired two people to fake mug one of Gerik's friends, so Kylin could fake rescue her and try to use said friend to get into Gerik's good graces.

--Created fake invites to a new cruise ship, making it look like Gerik and Burgenheim won said tickets. Kylin then hired Tyriont to use his pirate ship as said fake cruise ship, where Kylin attempted to get Burgenheim thrown off in order to get alone time with Gerik.

--Set up a fake wedding planner to reveal to Burgenheim that Gerik was secretly in an arranged engagement with a (*gasp*) girl, thus causing Gerik and Burg to get in a huge fight.

--Hired an alchemist to create a drug to disorient Gerik. Kylin got Gerik in an inn room bed, stripped both himself and Gerik down, and set events in motion for Burgenheim to walk in on the duo sleeping naked together. Someone managed to prevent Burgenheim from walking in on this scene though and foiled the plot.

--Seduced poor K'aworu in order to use him as leverage to force one of Gerik's friends (Aysun--K'aworu's sis) to help get Ky and Gerik back together.

--Went ballistic and nearly killed Aysun, Fenix, and Rhio during their final interference with Kylin wannabe relationship with Gerik.

And that's just probably half the stuff >.>. He's really desperate for love. When he's not after someone, he's burying himself in work to avoid thinking about his loneliness ; ;

I need to set his sights on someone new...

I've had to explain this a number of times in some variant or another and will probably be dog-earring this tidbit for the wiki page which I will some day get around to updating.

Eva's views on love stem largely from her upbringing and her family's ideology. I have expressed at times that she is confused by the notion of tribal culture, multiple partners, open relationships, etc. While this isn't to say she loathes others their own preferences, she does frown upon [some of] it quietly and inwardly.

She was brought up believing in a certain sanctity existing between a man and a woman in love. These are bonds that should not ever be broken, and that was drilled into her from a young age - perhaps even more fiercely than most. The fact that her mother left her father for another man was a huge source of shame, and she witnessed firsthand what it was like to see her father sort of flounder, then eventually wither and die - arguably of a broken heart.

Love has never been something she's taken lightly. Her first real relationship came when she was in her early 20's and developed gradually over time. He proposed and they were set to be wed, but tragedy struck (as it so often does) and she was left alone. She wrestled for a long time whether it was improper for her to see another. She hadn't undergone the rites, but she had promised herself to him (they had gotten tattooed before he went away to war).

Where so much of her father's story had revolved around hanging on to old traditions and hanging onto a lover that had fled, Eva's story seems to revolve more around letting go and moving on. There were one or two minor relationships that never fully panned out before Oskar came along. And where her first real relationship blossomed slowly, her relationship with Oskar was somewhat abrupt and sudden and like a sudden inferno by contrast, though it came after a lengthy professional relationship and certain amount of mutual respect and friendship had been established.

After Oskar died Eva pretty much wrote off love entirely, having other things to worry about (namely her children). Now it may be accurate she feels a certain sense of apprehension about falling in love. There is a love interest character and they get along and it's been fun exploring this angle of a character who is twice bitten thrice shy, so to speak.

To summarize, her beliefs are very conservative. She loves with all of herself, and deeply, but her heart is typically glacially slow and overcautious around anyone who may be a potential love interest. There is a wariness, and she inadvertantly keeps people - even those who care about her - at a certain distance.

Both Clover and K'mih's experiences with love are entirely the familiar kind.

-The main focus of Clover's innocent affection has always been her grandpa. Even after his death, he's still a very important figure in her life; the most important, without a doubt. As for any other kind of love, I realized ages ago that Clover was asexual, but now I also have reasons to think she's also aromantic. She's just been unable to feel any sort of romantic tension, even around people who seemed to display it towards her.

-The only real love K'mih has experienced is towards her family. She has a puppy crush on the Nunh (who happens to be her father), but I don't think she's prepared to actually understand romantic love, mainly due to Sunseeker's weird culture. I'll never understand a culture that pushes real feelings aside and sees relationships as mere business, but I guess that's how she's been taught (?).

-K'rahto Tia, a third character I've been RPing in this forum, is my only FFXIV character so far who has been able to experience the romantic kind of love. In a very platonic way *sweatdrops*.

Armi's thoughts on love are... complicated.

Armi wants to believe in the love she always read about in her favorite novels. She really likes Fairy-tales and Romance Novels - in those love is the savior of everything. It can move mountains, crush demons, make people better, and be the cure for all that ails. In those books, love is a miracle.

She desperately wants to believe love is a miracle.

As a priestess of Nymeia, many people came to her with questions of their soulmates or the people they were destined to be with - asking for advice from the ones who did the Spinners work, Listening to these people and giving them advice, she absolutely believed that if two people who were meant for each other, they would find a way to be together and have a happy ever after.

She was pretty happy to believe all of this was true for people, even if she never fell in love herself.

Then, she did and everything got muddled.

In reality, Armi found love to be complicated and messy. It was hard to sort out and sometimes it didn't work out. Or, really, most of the time it didn't work out. She's seen the dark side of love and she's terrified of it. Love can save, but it can also destroy. She's afraid that all she knows how to do is break the people she loves. Her mind is fractured, not whole from not really knowing who she is, and she's a nervous and indecisive person by nature -- she believes that how she is, there's no other option but to eventually break people. The love of her life ran from her, one man said he couldn't handle her, and the other broke under the pressure of trying to save her. Love is dark and shadowy, pretending to be light in order to get at your own shadows.

She's in love now, and it scares her what she may turn him into.

She wants to believe in the kind of love she used to before, but she's terrified it never really existed in the first place.

Clio fell pretty hard for Erik (despite her best efforts) and popped in and out of his for quite awhile before finally settling on being a more stable fixture in his life...at least for now.

As far as other romantic encounters go; she did have a few but they didn't really hold as much weight for her so Clio had no problem dropping them when she felt there was a need to.

Evangeline is pretty horrible at love and romances. She manages to muck up almost every one she starts.

She reads far too many romance novels, and does her best to imitate what the characters do, unfortunately life does not always imitate fiction.

Sav is incredibly devoted to the idea of 'tribe' and 'blood'. Where blood is her immediate family (currently only in the existence of her half-sister), tribe can be /anyone/ that she becomes close to. All of her friends are her tribe, and she defends them ferociously.

As for the capital L sorta love, she is currently in the process of learning what happened to her mate. She's got a small bit of hope that she's just off adventuring somewhere, but is slowly resigning herself to the fact that her mate may be (and probably is) dead.

As for her half-sister, she's kind super angry and wants to kill her at this point in time. She feels that she was abandoned by her, and isn't currently recognizing her as a relation. This will probably change in the future, because Sav really wants to hold onto the only family member she has left.

As for the future? Sav is a matriarch of her line, and would very much like to fulfill her duty of continuing it before she passes on. So once she gets over the pain of (very possible) loss of her mate, she'd very much want to try the serious relationship thing again. She'd just have to find someone who is willing to deal with her complete lack of knowledge of romantic/sexual relationships. -nods-

In his view it's beautiful and if people truly love each other (on a metric known only to him), he thinks it's the greatest thing ever when they're together through the greatest and the littlest of trials. There's not much he won't do for the sake of two people in love.

Whenever it comes to him though, he always avoids the question. Truth is, Kellach's still a kid at heart. Maybe he'll find someone, maybe he won't, but he'd have to find someone that accepts him for who he is, even if that seems to change quite often depending on the day. Eccentric would be the polite way to put it. So far, he's found maybe one person that truly accepts him, but that person is quite very much in love with someone else, and he respects that a lot.

For those of you who saw him in the Quicksand last night when he actually had an axe, that was due to needing to fetch another man's love without a third party getting involved. This was the only way he found that could disgust the other man enough to not seek why he needed the other one for his mission. He also pointed and flexed a lot.

Anyone involved found it extremely confusing, and that's Kellach at his tamest.

Zhi is essentially a warped and twisted teenager who has had some bad experiences and thinks she knows everything. She doesn't believe in love. To her it's a matter of those who use others and those who are used; everything can be traced back to selfishness, and that means that either people are idiots playing pretend with each other, or someone will be taken advantage of.

It's sorta been a pattern in her life, and after her second puppy love was pretty brutally ended, she's in no rush to even play with love as a means of getting what she wants. Better to avoid even a pretense of interaction with it, and sneer at those who believe in it.

I pity her; she's damaged goods through and through.

Avis loves love.

It can't be helped. She raised herself on rhymes, myths and grandiose romances, and she delights in the thrill of an all-consuming relationship of an intensely emotional, physical and also intellectual nature.

BUT she also believes that romantic relationships don't have to last. If attraction dies, it dies. She turns her nose up at the idea of sticking it out with someone you're no longer compatible with or have grown bored of, especially if this is done for the paltry label of "marriage" or income, inheritance, etc.

So, theoretically, long-term relationships are possible for Avis, but the romantic expectations she has means that they're likely to be very rare. Marriage is completely out of the question. Kids, too. She's too selfish for that.

Rivienne's knowledge on love started with her brothers, for she adored them, it was all the love she had come to know of. She found it to be strong and unwavering for many years. But such love, in the end, turned destructive and gave way to heartache.

But now, she has learned that there is a different love, and it can create something beautiful where there was once a void. She didn't understand that love until it came to her at the most unlikeliest time, and she believes that this is what true love must feel like. The emotion in her very heart hints to it, and she knows that it is not mere admiration or something built on simple desires.

Might as well do this for Eleni. :)

Family wise and platonically, love is very dear to Eleni. Once she makes good friends, she cares for them and cherishes them deeply. Also, she loved her grandmother to bits, and even though she doesn't remember much of her parents, she still feels 'attached' to them.

Oh... But of course, there's Love. That has so far been traumatic for Eleni. Yes, she's young, yes, she's stupid in the notions of love and romance. Fell in love once (well, she thought it was love), didn't work out, amicably split. Ah, but then came what she thought was True Love, and it most probably was/is, until the guy vanished. POOF! Gone!

After everything she did!! Eleni went out to save him, have his life spared, and she succeeded!!

But then he vanishes!! She tries finding him, no luck!

So now... Eleni is very apprehensive about Love. She's been scarred by it, and she thinks she will never be able to Love again. She's even confused on her views on whether True Love exists or not now!

--

On a side note, wow, a lot of the characters here have had traumatic experiences with love. Oh my! :surprise:

Spoilers galore, because some of these characters are supposed to be pretty guarded about the topic :o Won't go into too many details, doe.

A'toli Phen

Actually pretty aware of what's going on, but always reserves such implications from others as the very last possibility in their interactions. For example, if someone told her they "liked" her, she'd internally scream and externally say something oblivious to the effect of "I like you too, it's why I saved you that last bread roll." She doesn't like complications.

Howling Wind

Confused about romance as a whole, he personally casts himself aside as "too much of a brute for such delicate things". He's a bit grossly self-defeatist.

Sasahno Sahno

Very, very simply never crosses her mind. WORK IS HER ONLY LOVE.

Talis Allond

Talis loved! Once. Then he lost both of the women he was stringing along at the same time, which was fairly shocking to him. Now he dismisses love as a sort of... attachment that leaves too many risks. He just... doesn't care.

Valerian Fortanceste

Never really loved and is scared to. Much like Sasahno, as a workaholic he believes that work comes first and socialisation comes second. Simply put, he's a bit of a coward.

I would say that love is a hugely important aspect for Ember's character.

Even when I was first getting to know the character, I already knew that she would be affectionate. Initially, I always considered her affection and love to be a source of selfishness. She isn't that hard to please and on the flipside, can actually be petty if she is given a reason to be.

For those who don't know, the concept of my character is that she is this girl who was raised in the wilderness and thus may have a more primal or animalistic view on life. I would definitely say at the beginning her affection towards others was motivated by foods, gifts, and favors. Basically, if you gave her stuff she would like you.

Now, I think Ember has developed enough as a character to truly be able to love. She is beginning to consider that part of love is giving back to the other person.

She is in a romantic relationship, but she is also asexual and still learning about the concept of dating. She may never look at a romantic relationship the same way as others do. There is still a lot of overall growth potential in this aspect.

Other than that, most of the love themes in her role-play revolve around friends and family. These people have become the center of the universe.

As a (mostly) traditional Keeper, Nyxh worships Menphina, The Lover. So it's natural for love to play a large part in her views of the world. Her love for her family, friends, and especially her partner, is very important to her, and must be protected at all costs.

That being said; romantically, she's only had enough suitors to count on one hand. Less than half of those amounting to anything more than kissing and hand holding.

Currently she is in a committed relationship and loves her partner with all her heart.
