  1. Wauren for it if there's still room
  2. July 21st event for me, please~
  3. 1st sign me the hell up (goin on an alt) (1st btw)
  4. 1) Blacklist people who walk up godmodding the knowledge that your character is Dotharl. That's just nasty. 2) Don't RP in public. 3) RP in public, put 'no pre-approved walk-ups PLEASE' or some shit in your search info. 4) Exit the RP in-character if it starts to happen, just cut it off. 5) Unplug your modem if it starts to happen, just cut it off. 6) Don't play a Dotharl. 7) Get used to it and look forward to the day when people and characters care less thanks to the shiny new expansion.
  5. Quest giver of the shortest, easiest quest in the entire game, but gives you an inordinate amount of gil and exp for completing it.
  6. This is a very good point and one I did not consider, thank you. I hated Alphinaud during the entirety of 2.0, but thanks to Heavensward I can say that I actually really like him now, and enjoy watching him on screen. Having watched him grow over the course of so many patches really warmed me to him, and I'd say he's proof that Square Enix can write good, believable character development... provided they get enough time and breathing room. Sadly, I don't think Lyse is going to get that treatment, as much as I'd like her to. It's more likely she's going to be relegated to Aymeric status, a boring figurehead for an expansion, and will become irrelevant the second Stormblood starts to draw to a close. Something game changing and major that would prevent this would be awesome, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. That being said, I wonder which of the Three Ladies is going to get the most wholesome and believable character development? Lyse, Fordola or Yotsuyu? Vote now on your phones.
  7. Yeah I really don't get the people who are claiming that Lyse grew a lot through MSQ and accomplished so much on her own. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to like her a lot too, but I'm not going to fool myself into thinking the writing around her was good, or that anything about her character 'development' was handled well. She's static from start to finish. Sure, she feels different from Yda, but she's still goofy and selfish and childish... if anything I noticed these traits more in Stormblood than I did before (though that could be because we've simply spent more time with her/my memory is shit). She got two wardrobe changes and made the leader of the Resistance, despite not having any skills a leader might need. The writing around her was as bad if not worse than Minfilia's. Part of me wants to argue 'it's not the character that's bad, just the writing,' like I do with Minfilia... but constantly getting mad at oppressed non-combatants that are just trying to get by for not seeing things YOUR way is a pretty shitty character trait, lol. Ugh god, why.
  8. Yeeeeeah this is really well said. Exactly how I feel about her too. If it wasn't for Lyse my feelings towards Stormblood would have varied from ambivalent to happy, but Lyse really just dragged nearly every scene she was featured in down. Like... is this child really getting mad that fucking FARMERS aren't willing to fight against the people with magic death robots at the drop of a hat? God damn. If I do Stormblood MSQ again on an alt without skipping cutscenes, I might as well just drink an entire bottle of wine every time the camera pans to Lyse just silently *clenching fist.* I'll probably die but whatever.
  9. Real talk, the Suikoden vibes were overflowing. That was probably what I loved most about this expansion. Suikoden reigns supreme in the storytelling department though. Stormblood just fell flat in a lot of areas, the pacing in particular was all over the place. Azim Steppe and Hien were highlights (I can't believe SE managed to warm me to the lizard people). Lyse was a huge low point for me, which sucked since I really wanted to like her. Hancock should replace her as a Scion. What a guy.
  10. Don't be like that OP. Some people will say you are but who cares? There are just as many people who wouldn't bat an eye. You do you.
  11. First off, no one is arguing that Balmung needs 'new blood' so the RP community can just have more people and then... ignore them, or whatever it is you think is going on. The main concern is people having no warning being suddenly cut off from the main RP hub, people who might have had friends ready and waiting to transfer, and can do so no longer. And yes, after a time, new blood is necessary because people take breaks, they quit, they transfer - all manner of things. Having people come in to replace them is necessary for every community in every MMO. Yes, it is good to have an alternate option so Balmung is not inundated with massive amounts of people, but it is not healthy to sever the flow completely for a prolonged amount of time. My main concern with your argument is that somehow more people = less opportunity for RP? Or something??? Like, I may not have any prior MMO RP experience to back my stance, but I really do not see how this could ever possibly be conceived as a bad thing. Shy, introverted RPers are going to exist on every server, regardless of size. Servers with a smaller RP community may still have large RP events, that will inevitably have some people stewing on the sidelines... just like a real high school dance. So, what's your solution to this? You want Balmung to stay closed indefinitely, so what, shy people can get more RP, somehow? Because if no new people are coming in, long-time people will now be forced to pay attention to them and RP with them? I can't see how this is logically sound in any capacity, so much so I don't even see how the points you made pertain at ALL to Balmung being locked. Established RPers aren't going anywhere (unless SE does something drastic (doubtful)). Many of these sidelined RPers you keep talking about will stay because they know Balmung will remain the largest RP hub in the game for quite some time, even with an indefinite lockdown, and will thus continue to have a large and active community to try and integrate with. Anyway I could go on and on about this but I feel it has very little to do with the topic at hand... your post included. The problems you pointed out have been going on before Balmung was locked, and will continue to exist unless SE just nukes the server entirely. But I'll stop before I give YoshiP any ideas.
  12. What hurts the worst is that the events of Kingsglaive were supposed to be playable, but that got scrapped and turned into a movie instead. Th-thanks, Square Enix... At least it was very, very pretty.
  13. The Virgin Killer Outfit is GOAT and I would pay good money for such gear to be put in-game in whatever capacity.
  14. A link from the RPC that links to Reddit that links to a JP site. I'm triggered. Anyway yeah I hope European folks don't get thrown under the bus again. I remember one of them needing like having to pay for a certain amount of time for a magazine subscription. Or something. Absolutely disgusting.
  15. Same goes for me, especially if any open room crops up for the Maelstrom Officials side.
  16. Ehhh... The guideline 'did it exist in the 18th century' isn't bad but considering the few examples we have in game it's kind of inaccurate. Then again the spread of instruments we do see is all over the place and just plain weird. For example, the manor 'harpsichord' that looks and sounds every bit the modern piano. Triggered. The French horn you reference is in appearance much closer to a sousaphone, and given it's called 'manor marching horn,' it would be safe to assume that's what it is based off of. The sousaphone was first built at the very tail end of the 19th century. The timpani we have in game is clearly pedal tuned, which was not introduced until the late 19th century as well. With that in mind, it does stand to reason that even the upright piano, which came about in the early-mid 19th century, could very easily exist - it just might not take its modern day form. Weirdly enough, the manor harp doesn't have any pedals, which were first introduced in the late 18th century and continuously improved upon after. So the harps don't have pedals (or maybe they do, just this one doesn't) but we have early sousaphones and pedal-tuned timpani. It's wild. Doesn't make any god damn sense. So anyway, what I'm trying to say is... so long as it fits in with the setting, it's pretty reasonable for it to exist. Even saxophones and, dare I say it, banjos. Just no crazy, modern, electric, new age stuff and you should be fine.
  17. I'm a bit rusty, but I'll sign up for Hawker's Alley Harmony. I can also show for Stable Seas in the event some slots need filling when the time comes.
  18. Another reason is that before you can even set foot in Ishgard itself a player need to go through the entire 2.x MSQ. This prevents lowbie characters from entering the place, and thus everyone is reluctant to place any RP-events in Ishgard since it would exclude all those characters from joining. Result: Not much RP in Ishgard. (That it is a quite isolationist place IC does help.) Not only that the city itself wasn't the best for random RP in general. A bar with no chairs? What? There's like a nice fire and a gazebo and some benches, but that's it and they're all outside in the stark cold anyway. Who wants to hang out there? A lot of neat potential RP areas in Heavensward have been instanced too. Not cool! And outside the city, the few settlements suffer from the same issues, especially when compared to places like Aleport, Wineport, Horizon, Fallgourd Float, etc etc. I think if the new areas in Stormblood do better at this more people might feel compelled to go out and use such areas. Hopefully, anyway.
  19. Persistent fantasia usage is far more likely to weird people out than just another miqo'te. I'm not accusing you of anything, obviously it's fine if you wanted to mess around with the different races before settling on one you really wanted to play. Just something to keep in mind.
  20. Given the explicit callbacks to the end of 1.x that happen in that cutscene, yes. I may just be heartless I suppose. Or it's a cutscene that appeals to a minority of the playerbase who were there for 1.0. Admittedly, I was not. You're not heartless. I found the scene hard to get into emotionally as well. I was far more interested in the very distinctive 'squish' noise Ilberd made. The scene was really rushed, heavy-handed, and worst of all - predictable. At least that's what I thought of it. I'm also skeptical of characters being killed off for-realsies-for-good now thanks to Nanamo, so even though we're now 'Papalymo's Final Witness' I feel there's a pretty even chance we'll see him again in some form or another. Unfortunately.
  21. A hairstyle change is all that's needed to completely shift your attitude and personality. You'd get a nice wombo combo with a wardrobe change too. This is all according to my Chinese cartoons.
  22. Hahaha holy shit. Had this happen to me a few times too. Tanks that don't listen to their healers or even pay attention to their party composition, or even just look at people's HP (takes like 5 seconds to look jfc) are the worst. Worse still are the ones that treat EVERY DUNGEON like it's an expert mass-pull speed run. I got into Aurum Vale on my alt, a Scholar, in my horrible leveling gear and not level synced. Tank was a 60 Warrior, very decked out. They were actually very good for the most part, but when we got to the room before the second boss (the one with all the diremites), he was like "I'm going to pull the whole room." "Okay," I said. "You'll die." And he didn't do it! To my surprise, of course, though he did bitch about it some. I really do feel bad for healers that get dragged along by tanks like that. Sometimes if I feel they're about to do something stupid I'll just hang back and let them get killed. Sometimes you need to let them learn the hard way (or maybe I'm just petty...?). Such a shame that healer put up with all that crap, can really kill confidence. Also WHY are Dragoons the biggest shit talkers that can never back it up? So pathetic. There's a DRG on Balmung (who shall remain unnamed) who I got into a Sophia clear group with, and he kept bitching the whole time about how he's the 3rd best parse in the world on this fight, how we should just 1-tank it, how it was everyone's fault that he kept dying. He eventually left after we wiped 5 times and everyone was like thank GOD. Then I looked up DRG dps rankings for that fight and he wasn't even top 100. LEL.
