faerie Is there anyone out there for me?
Nebbs replied to Na'tali Misah's topic in Chronicled Connections
Try a transfer to Balmung, Romance RP is quite popular with or without an ERP element. But such things should come with health warnings. -
We really should get a sticky or something on this.. In short.. RP can be found anyplace Go to events Join RP Linkshells Join an RP FC Check out people with RP flags Check out people with an FC tag ending -RP>> Any you never know the person you think my be an RPer could be, check their search info As for actual locations RP events are a dead certainty for RP happening in a location, and the event blurb may give you a clue as to the type of RP Quicksand is the RP swamp, there may be good RP there but you have to wade through all that is bad Gridania & Limsa have it, check them out at peak times. It can be hit and miss. After that it's pot luck After you get fed up of this, join an RP FC for a captive group Essentially it comes down to you to be outgoing enough to get the RP, wherever it is. Go to the QS and note that while target rich, most folks are standing around hoping someone will startup RP with them.

balmung Doman Raen Ronin seeking connections.
Nebbs replied to Juromaro's topic in Chronicled Connections
I too started a Ronin, though male Raen. I went for a kind of Samurai/Yakusa past for them, and now they are torn by a conflict within themselves. They could fall lower into darkness or rise up into the light, only the RP will determine that. -
On Balmung there is a large EU presence with a few FCs, Link Shells and Discord groups. The organized RP tends to start in the evenings. Clearly there is more on US friendly times than EU, but it is there. With a large EU presence there is generally good acceptance that English is not a first language for a lot of people. This means most people will be happy to take things slowly or even switch to another language if possible. It is certainly a good way to practice your English I am told. If you are on Balmung then let us know and we can invite you to the EU role players link shell.

Interesting. I suppose you need to define what is actually going on so that anyone helping you could actually fix it, be that free you from the hole or make sure you never get out again, or move you on to the next realm of existence. In terms of IC fixes my witch may offer, so I suppose these are spoilers, could be: Some way to keep you awake for longer or permanent, with coresponding side effects Some kind of talisman of the hole that allows you to exist outside of it, probably needs a quest into the hold to get the components to make it The realization that you need to eat peoples' brains to survive The clearing up of the unfinished business that is stopping you moving on to the next life It sounds fun but I wonder how viable it will be, which will come down to your creativity in playing the character I suspect.

Welcome fellow ancient role player! I'm over on Balmung but it is good to see others survived the ages to still be doing this!

It all sounds a but ooc contrived. But I suppose the options could include.. Just get healed, and have a voice back.. all is solved Try an artificial voice (magic or magitek or something) Get an empathic speaking parrot Get a book that auto-writes using thouch or eye movement or such How about a keypad and tablet display Invent sign language Have a set of pre-written cards they can quickly hold up, how many words are needed to create meaning?

There is always next time, after all if our characters ever did get lucky then we could not come to future ones! Twelve's blessing to anyone courageous enough to try and put up with Claire. I have no courageousness.. only dumb stupidity and a complete lack of empathy to offer.

classes and rp- what would happen on the rp front if they were removed?
Nebbs replied to Kallera's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Depends how they do it. I don't base my characters around a class or a job, so it would not make much difference to me. Instead I give them a role in life and appropriate skills to match from what is sensible. However, the IC guilds for the classes do provide some good RP features in the game and to remove these would fundamentally upset the setting I feel. -
Nebula continues her journey from Hedge Witch to Pirate Witch, and brings back a new look from voyages out towards the Far East (because, who doesn't have the Far East fever?) New Sea Witch Look Oriental styling

Do what Ben does . . . drink more. Either you get inebriated enough to get over any social anxiety or just you get to a point you no longer care about the chocobo poo. Both are acceptable recourses for the night. Also, had a great time and cheers to the new people I got to roleplay with, even if briefly. All IC for me there, OOC I had a great time.. IC Drama = good stuff.

Arriving there to join the crowd outside waiting for the doors to open. Folks gathered around in the garden eying up each other and wondering if tonight there would have the nerve to talk to someone no doubt. Then we were in and the bustle to get a drink, as that was something that didn't require much nerve. Then it was a slow agonizing wander around the place trying to remember that those wearing red were interested in females, blue for males and purple for either. Finally plucking up the courage to sit and start to chat to someone, only to have them stand and rush out half way through your sentence. Poor dear the stress and nerves got to them I suspect, at least we hope so otherwise it's us that scared them away. Then after a short time to recover and collect ourself we go in again, and have a promising chat but even that ends with the excuse that they had to go home to put their pet cat to bed. So I leave wondering how far down the bottom of the barrel of suitable romantic interests I am, where stepping in a chochobo poo, as I walk home, is the upside of my night. Such is the life in a singles bar, and at least I got some material for a song.

Look forward to seeing you on Balmung. But make sure to create 8 characters as the transfer will move all of them in one go so you never have to worry about alt slots. Lalafel are common and it is like being in a special club. Don't feel you need to avoid them at all.

Welcome young one, yes you are not that old in this game you will find I would say all the characters are great concepts and i love that they have character rather than a class. For rarity the Roe lass is probably the winner, with miqo'te being quite common among players. What you could do is start each one and see which one grabs you. Play each to level 10 and you will start to get a feel for the game and setting. I think this will better shape things. The game has a lot of lore and that is revealed as you play. Also don't think ffxiv is a fluffy rainbow game, it is quite dark at times just not in your face. What it isn't is gritty, that has to come from your RP. While there is a lot of epic hero saviour of the world stuff in the main story most RPers play more down to earth characters. Hope you enjoy it, the game grew on me from originally disliking it, but the community more than makes up for the downsides. Feel free to prod me in game if you need any help or RP, or to discuss the city states Vs Mintzberg's model. Though I come with a health warning on spelking and grammar.

Light up the stage! A singing contest [3/31 @8pm EST]
Nebbs replied to Zanel's topic in Chronicled Events
Sounds great, I'll sign up when i can get on (if slots left) -
The Raen seem to be more classic oriental in feel, like monk, samurai etc.. , while the Xaela are more Mongolian tribal in style. So for your Raen there are many oriental tropes that would fit. Just see whatever film or show or manga that suits. I have a Raen male myself who dishonered his lord and is now a down and out Ronin type in Eorsea. Torn by his fall an struggling with his own morals vs the lord he let down. I based him around a yakusa/samurai type.

Count me in, I play a Witch who is chasing her heritage as a Pirate (been doing it for a few RL years in game) and at present she is a Sea Witch 2nd Class, does jobs for the Maelstrom and goes off on "Pirate" adventures. I'm EU timezone which is probably the main problem here. I am very keen on Limsa & La Noscea RP also looking forwards to the extra Pirate stuff in the expansion. At present there are a few "Limsa" based LSs, one for Yellow Jackets that looks quite OOC strict, a Limsa Rouges IC LS (though very quiet) and a Knights & Pirates OOC one aimed at promoting Limsa RP (also very quiet).
-
I like the idea of an IC active LS and I think if you dotted it with performances, news, topical shows and such it could work. I wonder if you could also "record" things and play them back, though probably a pain. I'd be up to pitch in with things on the EU timezone shows. Some brain dumping: Interviews Performances Fashion Tips Gardeners Question time Roving Reporters ... just think of a real show and do the Eorzian alternative

I'm definitely in the see what the RP brings up and where it goes.. let the cards fall as they will, person. This tends to be how I like my RP, and I tend to avoid too much OOC meddling in it. In relationships I love the "will they, wont they" part too much to try and fix the outcome. But I can appreciate where you want some degree of definition it could help to set something up. Maybe keep it as a strong intent and let the RP grow to fill the gaps as a best of both world approach?

I think you can pitch the success level where you like and probably get some RP back-story in there too. Such as: I had a job as an intern with a famous fashion designer. Every thing was nice until they then showcased my designs as their own. Apparently they have been doing this to young designers for years. I took a job with some shady sorts and ended up chained to a bench repairing old military outfits that were then sold on. I managed to escape when the place was raided. I spent a nice summer recovering from an illness in a little out of the way village. I pitched in to help with their summer festivities by creating a summer look for them from what they had. All donated scraps of cloth and old clothing and Ia small number of the ladies and I fashioned the summer costumes. It was one of the best summers I have had. I once made a fire robe for a mage. I had to make a special thread that he enchanted, and then as I wove the cloth he bound fire elemental magic into it. I lost three looms and had blisters for weeks following that little job. Still he paid me well for the trouble.

Welcome to Balmung and RP-R-Us I would start by just following the MSQ (main story quest) and your Class quest lines. From this you will get a feel for the setting, and get the things that help progress in game (like your mount). Don't worry so much about side quests as you will also be leveling other classes on this character and you can pick them up with those. Also note that Free Company (FC) = Guild Link Shell (LS) = Chat Channel (you can have up to 8 LS) RP wise this will also unlock the transport and access to the other main cities and get you some clothing to mix and match. At about level 15 you should head to Vesper Bay in Western Thanalan with some orange juice and unlock the ability to dye your gear. As for finding RP: Have at least a rough outline of your character and check on the web sources the basics of lore, and I would keep it simple to start with and base it on something basic rather than a specific class Keep your eyes open as you can find it anyplace, especialy those with an RP status set or even any FC name that ends in "-RP>>". Check the character's search info for more clues as many will say "Walk-ups welcome". Join some of the many IC/OOC link shells to tap into the community, many of these also have a Discord channel too for more spammy stuff Check out the FCs to find one that would suit, this is a great way to get into RP Do go to events Basically put yourself out there, engage with others and expect a hit & miss experience.

If you have an Nvidia card check out Shadowplay that comes as part of the standard driver set. I use that and then Microsoft's Movie Maker, simple enough for my needs. For animated GIFs it depends what you want to do, there are lots of on line ones that will create them from movies or stills.
