balmung Two sea-cats looking for FC & Contacts!
Nebbs replied to Iba'ra's topic in Chronicled Connections
Welcome and always good to see more Limsa focus. I have a cat that hops around there a lot, and there are a few linkshells you should consider, though like most LS they are quiet a lot. There is often nice RP to be found in Limsa. Knights & Pirates (quiet but has some active members) an OOC Linkshell for for anyone who holds IC ties to the Maelstrom, or generally frequents Limsa Lominsa or the rest of Vylbrand in their roleplay. Rogues of Limsa (quiet with one or two rouging it up) This linkshell is an in-character linkshell for characters who are members of the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss; also known as the Rogues' Guild. Maelstrom Command (quite rank/command based) Maelstrom Command is a RP LinkShell community dedicated to bringing Maelstrom roleplayers together for fun, Grand Company themed roleplay. -
discussion Current State of the MMO Market
Nebbs replied to Parth Makeo's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I think that what folks want has changed through the years. Initially we were all just awed by the chance to play with many many others in a game that supported social interactions as well as game-play (guilds, parties, trading etc..). Such things are now part of the baseline, along with looks, feel, lore, storytelling etc.. With more games to choose from it becomes easy to shift and follow the easy gratifying content, and even with RP to engage in the newness of a new game. So what was a rather static captured market for a game became more nomadic. What this does is disrupt the communities, and it is the community that is at the heart of an MMO. For roleplay it is even more important, if not the most important. I have recently been away from FFXIV, and played a few other MMORPGs looking for something that is not out there. Essentially what I experienced was small RP communities clinging onto a game, which works at a guild level but is very thin at a world level. I am sure there are other out there but I didn't find em. This is also why FFXIV/balmung I think is unique at present (or at leasts viable). It has a large possibly sustainable RP community. That size alows many folks to find a suitable fit for their RP as well as there being just enough content to keep you engaged (maybe). As for the next big thing, I am sure something will come along. Maybe with VR and such to change the dynamic of the way folks play. But for RP we don't need all that I expect and it comes more down to how they handle the community. FFXIV is not perfect. -
About as far as I went was for my Au Ra tribe girl, where I changed the way she spoke to be more foreign. I borrowed a lot from working and living with people who's spoken English was still heavily influenced by their native one. This is essentially dropping some of the world and swapping around the phrasing. I am a failure at languages so for me it was more a sense of a foreign sounding phrasing than anything grounded in real languages. So.. "Why are you sitting under that tree? That's typical of all males, lazing around while there is plenty of work to be done." became something like "Why sit under tree? Lazy male should do work, you see this need doing, yes?" I didn't notice any problems with RP, except when she didn't understand things and that just meant more fun in explaining. She was very good at "womansplaining".

balmung Auristela - Looking for connections/friends
Nebbs replied to As'elena's topic in Chronicled Connections
Oooh, not sure about your Alt but if you want some Limsa RP I'm more than happy, especially if in EU time. EU mid week - evenings EU Sat/Sun - All day -
Not sure if a spoiler (as a bug) but when you complete the beast tribe quests in 3.5 you loose the ability to buy items with gil from the pre-heavensward Tribe vendors
-
Provided you look like the model and don't mind people assuming things IC then go for it. I find it a pain when the character is not like the toon, which then requires explaining, extra description, having to ignore things and etc etc etc.. all of which gets in the way of getting on with RP. The line of least resistance is generally the best.

In answer to the questions, let me see, in verse perhaps.. for all to see? No.. just plain old scribbles from my pen. What instruments do you use? The harp, very classic bard. Though it tends to be a rather old and patched thing. Do you write songs or choose songs and like them on Spotify or YouTube? I prefer to write them, though I only do lyrics. Quite a few give musical descriptions, but alas such is beyond me. On occasion I may choose a song as a basis, either from some sea shanty source or other. Then I modify to fit the the setting and the story I want to tell. If you write songs, how do you choose backing music? I don't have an IC music, though I have sometimes picked something on the orchestration player. I often pick an OOC tune to get the cadence(?) right, and afterwards I may youtube the performance with that tune in the background Are they songs or more poetry set to music? Maybe both? Now to add, how to get RP from it rather than just a performance. After all a performance is a done and gone thing, very little RP reward for your craft I think. I have written songs for weddings, and to do this I interview the couple asking about how they met, what they mean to each other etc.. Great for them to tell a third person their story. This works very well. Write a song about some RP that happened, this creates some feedback from making your friends famous or infamous. Sing your advertisements, as Nebula is a peddler of witchy things she is often heard to sing as she walks.. ♪ Potions and lotion and fortunes for sale ♪ No need to dally, come see my tally ♪ For potions and lotion and fortunes for sale Hope that helps.

balmung Druggy Alchemist/Doctor looking for Contacts
Nebbs replied to Miakoda's topic in Chronicled Connections
If you want all natural products for all your needs then Nebula could help. All lovingly hand crafted to exact specifications and quality. (warning products may contain actual dragon piss and not match what is on the label) -
What others have said plus .. You would loose your housing and there is none available. So, you would need to find a Free Company and buy a room to replace your Apartment. Though, there are many many FCs If you have lots of gil spread it over your characters (with help from a friend or FC chest) then maybe look into buying up items that you can resell once you arrive. Maybe the bags of coins, if they are cheep enough, or find a friend on the server to scan the market board for you.
-
Lore aside, I think one difficulty would be how you could represent this in the game other than getting everyone to join in the illusion and treat you as some big cat. That would involve a lot of explaining and many are likely to not accept it as the reality and have their characters just see a person, or even just walk away. So you are probably limited to a small group for this. You could, I suppose, play a mount, not many look like a white tiger but it could be better than nothing. Maybe change the concept from white tiger to an actual animal represented in the mounts? Another way would be to just have him beef-up and take on more big cat characteristics, paws/claws, fur, mane etc.. Or just have the tiger as some image/aspect that shimmers around him with Aether/Energy. Then you could maybe use items to change the way the toon looks? There is a lion's head helm for example.

Like folks have said, go see what takes your fancy. And try some out as they are quite some different ones. For leveling I would definitely take a look at this one RP Levelers OOC LS

We are small but active and will be looking to grow in 2017.

We all know linkshell management is a pain in the game, with 128 slots there is often a need to prune out inactive characters to cerate room. Up until now I relied on maintaining a list (google docs) that Leaders, Individuals and trawling the Linkshell activity log, can tag the active characters each period. It is not 100% foolproof. I recently came across this little titbit on Reddit thread that could add an extra tool in our management of LSs, and also help you prune your Friends List (for those of us with 200) Just before maintenance if you look at someone's info from your in game list, then you can tell if they have logged on or not since last maintenance. Active characters will have both Job and Class levels shown Inactive characters will have only Class levels shown Try it for yourself. Some things to consider Check just before the next maintenance to give people a chance to have logged on Lower level characters may not have yet started their Jobs People can be inactive between maintenances, so you may want to check over a number of weeks

Yea, look at what people do, not what they say. Get yourself sorted and then you can be there for someone else.

All sensible stuff. I would add.. Relationships are complex, and there are any number of things you learn about each other through the years and more. Just remember that you and your SO will have some differences, and you both need to be open and honest about those. I would also be honest about how you feel and not try to play a blame game. Whatever the issue you need to work together and accept who each of you are and how you go forward with that together. There is no "standard" couple, find what works for you two.

I thought about this and found it a nice check of what I play. I am a Heavy RPer but where I clash with others tends to be lore friendly (me) vs strict lore adherence (them) - see beow What in Eorzea do you mean by Realistic/Dark? Realism - Check (within the context of a fantasy realm.. magic is real, science is made up) Dark - Check (but without overlaying RL morals too much, accepting some things as quite normal that in RL are far from it) Death - nope (I look for other ways to have consequences yet continue the RP) Maybe I'd add.. do a stupid thing, expect to suffer the consequences. I also think loosing a fight gives more RP opportunity than winning it. What do you mean by Everyman? No "Warriors of Light" need apply - Check (they can, but they go in the insane box) Enjoy a character with flaws and drawbacks - Check (it's all about the flaws) Lore-breaking - maybe (I like lore friendly, as I Role Play not Lore Play. If it can be achieved in lore it is fine, not everything needs to be explained and validated, we need some wonder. I prefer to do things IC, and find OOC debates on IC spoils it) While I don't play a 'void character' I accept that others might do, that does not stop me playing my character in my own way. The world is full of mystery, my character does not have a players handbook or DM's guide. Story-Driven? Storyteller - check (stories created through interaction not a script, but finding someone who can do this is not easy. Many are passive or respond only in their character scope) NPCs - check (I tend to voice NPCs or play them, and put the focus on the other players to decide what to do) Fun - probably (I like to mix dark and fun together, I am a fan of Pratchett and my character will say things that are ooc/ic funny and even venture into slapstick consequences of her inept actions) Slice of Life I do engage with, though I always throw hooks into it that could be developed. In fact a lot of my RP comes out of those tentative shoots that lead to a story. Once things get rolling, for me the RP happens alongside the adventure, so should not be rushed. The win is a journey, not simply finishing the quest. Have I lost you yet? Maybe - I play serious but can come off light hearted. Nebula is easy going and quite in your face engaging to initial contact but then offers more depth for those who make it. A lot of what she does is engaging, solution focused and other character enabling. I expect the biggest problem will be her "Witch" life rather than any cookie cutter class life. EST: 5pm - 11pm - I am EU so by 7pm EST I am gone, except weekends when I am on most of the day/evening.

Still hugging and caking out of 2016 and into 2017 2016 was not great, but we still have cake.

Balmung is active most of the time but events tend to be NA (EST to PST) timings. However, there is an active set that run more EU friendly times (EU evenings). There are so many RPers on Balmung you can find pretty much what you want, as well as what you don't want . The choice is down to you. I personally find things quite light until around 3pm GMT (That's daily reset time) and for RP that seems to pick up around 7pm GMT and really kick in 10pm GMT. You can even find folks still going in the mornings the NA night owls as well as Australia etc.. So for me I get the chores done (dailies, gathering, crafting) while it is quiet and then focus the RP for later in the evening. There are EU focused Free Companies too (guilds) as well as many Link Shells, and Discord/Skype chats running. Though with most things social the 1:10:100 rule seems to apply (1 active, 10 engaged, 100 passive). You get out what you put in. Balmung population is big, so I am guessing even at off peek in the EU hours the RP activity is still above an EU server. Your big problem is that creating new characters on Balmung is hard as it is locked most of the time. The only sure way to get here is server transfer (just create a load of alt slots before you do it). These are not comprehensive but capture a lot: Check out the EU Directory Check out the Online list of events

I'm thinking how it might fit with a Pirate flair, it may be just the thing! Now to find six fingered men!

Twas the day before, the day before, Christmas... First, safety patrol to check that none of the decorations were dangerous and there were no robbers hiding in the snowmen. Then spreading the festive cheer with the local sailors while gaining info on shady activity Keeping an eye on a suspected Pirate ring, and sampling the mulled tea and festive pie. Then hair styling and slap on the makeup for a night out dancing. Hope you all had a great day too
