Tossing in an update! In this moment of writing there's just shy of 7 hours until it all goes down. When you arrive to the auction, Cait Syrike (Game name Lilly Elessa) will be there to accept your donations in exchange for the 100 tokens you need in order to bid for someone. As a reminder, tonight's event is 100% IC, meaning that no real gil is to be traded. People who are to be auctioned off are allowed to obtain tokens and bid as well. You may not pool tokens together to obtain a higher bid just to be clear, I refer to the max-number addition as described in the OP (since this will effectively prevent any actions going for more than 100.) At roughly 20:15 (UK time), we'll be starting the first auction, and we'll keep going until everyone's been sold. I will present people in a random order, and unless otherwise instructed I will be using the descriptions you see above as my guide for how to describe you all. You can still sign up however I strongly recommend that you sign up before the event starts. I'm alone about presenting people, and during the event I may not be able to respond and prepare additional sign-ups. Once you have your date it becomes your shared responsibility to make sure that the date subsequently happens, however KinRP will happily help you with arrangements to our best abilities if such is desired. There will be two kinds of auctions: Romantic dates & Friendly dates, so even if your character is not interested in romance, they can have the opportunity to make a new friend instead. I would never judge the quality of a roleplayer on how they write, for me /what/ they write is far more important. I don't tend to notice the little things when it comes to grammar, I flat out never understood how to use the comma properly (We were taught both the old and the new way, at the same time. It was super confusing.) in school - I stick to "whenever I'd take a breath" and because of this I read things aloud when I post longer things like journal entries. I think a part of it is due to English being my second language, there's also some words I always misspell where I've only managed to unlearn the habit from a few words (I used to write stomach as "stomache", Sweden as Sweeden, I have a tendency to add e's where they don't belong) and I'm at a point now where it's really as good as it's going to get. It doesn't mean I do not care about character development, storytelling and generally trying to make others participation in the RP as pleasant as mine - I don't rightfully know many people where you can draw a line between how much they care, and how they express themselves with signs. I'd encourage you to give people a second chance before you write them off, truly. But we all have our things and thoughts at the end of the day ^^ ---- It's very interesting to see peoples responses about it. I'm probably going to end up sticking with the quotation marks unless I am in a very small roleplay where the other parts do not do it, cause I do like to match the people around me as much as I can. But I also like the idea of consistency. It's also lead me to realize more and more things about my writing style that has changed versus when I got here, and when I started RPing five years ago - and this is, genuinely, the first time I've stopped up to think about what is happening.

These days I use past tense as much as I use present tense. I used to think past tense looked /really/ odd when I came to Balmung, and how exactly I changed, I'm not sure. Future tense I use sometimes when I am following up on an action in the same emote, usually happens during combat or similar situations where explaining what your character would do with a lead up move is going to be too confusing in a new emote some 4-5 minutes later (since fights can be at a slower pace). The would comes in as me presenting how it would be if the action succeeds, I suppose to give the other player something more to work with, especially if the lead up looks really weird. It can also be a way to communicate to the other player that everything you do is interrupt-able, and you would acknowledge the interrupt because there's no possible situation where they'd dodge it. That's my take on it anyways. ETA: Forces of habit can be really strong as well, sometimes they just don't make sense.

I've been ponder-wondering for a while now, about the use of " " in front of your text in /say. I noticed it with myself, that I have started adapting the use of " ", because at some point I realized I was the only one -not- doing it in a particular situation. But then when I'm around someone that doesn't do it, I stop again. And when equal amounts of people who do and do not use it, I become a rather inconsistent mess. Maybe I am just thinking too much about it? So anyways I figured I'd make a poll about it to see what people prefer. So what do you guys think about it? Something you noticed? Does it change anything for you? Force of habit?

It's a tendency that stretches back all the way to my WoW days and probably further, but that's where I saw the tencency happening the first time. People would stand at literally -any- banister in a place like say, the pig and whistle, and then just.. Stand there, waiting for something to happen but not being willing to take the first step. I'm guilty of doing it myself as of late, my characters are usually outgoing and curious, but I have been lacking the que to interact with people as most people seem to not do idle emotes so much. I have a hard time discerning who's an rper and who isn't, and even who is IC at the given moment. I think one of the things that could truly help a player like me, is if they released the mod API already and we got us something like MRP from WoW or Merisioux from Rift. That way you can get a bit more information and from that perhaps get inspired to walk up. I sometimes type in names on the wiki to see if there is anything, but it's not always the case. Honestly I prefer open events, it's easier to find something natural to talk to a stranger about, and it's during events that I've made the most contacts on Nailah.

A little bit unrelated, but could you enlighten me on how you managed to put up those tabs? I can not seem to figure out this sorcery. It seems like such a good way to segment things.

I am unemployed at the moment, but going to a jobinterview on thursday. I am an officemouse as I call it, no formal education but I did about 1½ years of unpaid internship whilst waiting to get approved in a part of the system that allows people with disabilities to work on low hours but still get paid enough to live. The hopefully upcoming job will be at a combined office/warehouse, should be pretty interesting. I also do a bunch of volunteer work giving talks about autism, and I am soon starting a course to learn how to construct courses to support people with mental vulnerabilities, which focuses on teaching people with personal experience to help people who are new to the system and suchlike. Looking forward to it ^^
