  1. I have roleplayed with people who have used fantasia, but agreed never to share the information with my character. We got on fine. The problem is that some people find some things to be so massively world changing, e.g the basic problem with Fantasia has been that it was never represented anywhere else in game. The world would look different if fantasia and/or other shape-changing (to a radical extent) was in common use. I don't find that it's alright for me to invent a new type of shapeshifting magic for example, it's too big of a thing to go and do. Other people have other views on this, and that is fine. Forcing your views onto someone else, calling them a bad roleplayer for using or even not using fantasia, or any imaginary substitution that isn't mentioned in the lore, is always going to be bad. You would't dream of how many times I've been accused of being some boring ass roleplayer because I didn't want to accept someone else accidentally got fantasia'd into another race. For me, the other way of doing things is not fun, for others my way of doing things is not fun. On top of that, some FC's may have stances on several of these controversies that are around in the lore. Some are fine with IC white mages and others are not. What is true for the FC's I find, is that they tend to be a collection of like-minded individuals, attracted by the same preferences in RP. Most of my discussions about this comes when Kin is rejecting someone that applied, because they do not enjoy things the way we do. In my eyes it's best to not have people in a place where they would not enjoy themselves, but some unfortunately see that as an attack on their abilities. The solution is somewhere around finding mutual respect. Don't call people (or FC's) bullies because they wont accept your fantasia, or something you put in place for it. Different preferences is not an attempt to deliberately be mean. Unless they of course sit down and make a point out of telling you that you're shit, but I'd argue in that case you didn't want to hang about them anyways. Same goes for if they can not discriminate between IC and OOC use of the potion. Bless, I once used it on my Nessa cat to change her tail's fur cause I decided I wanted fluffy and just went on with assuming it was always like that. It's not like anyone noticed either.
  2. It's complicated. They are things in the game. The main-character (aka, you the player) can become one. ...your average person in the world cannot. Okay, that's better. I mean, the player characters of the world are heroes, right? So it's feasible that there are enough new Warriors of Light or whatever they are to be called in 2.0 that can become these white/ black mages. Still, to anyone who hasn't attained that level of skill or mastery in magic, they would appear quite powerful/ special? Just trying to think how my Scholar would react to a white mage/ black mage. The lore devs did touch on this and state that the MSQ is written with one special person in mind, it just happens that we are all playing that one special person. But there is technically speaking, in the story, only one warrior of light. It would get awkward in RP real fast if everyone played out the storyline IC, so by far the most people do not RP as the hero of light. It all makes sense from the perspective of wanting to tell a good videogame story, we all enjoy playing games with good stories where we are the hero or the enemy etc. and not just average joe. Also if a black mage every surfaces (in a way that isnt the job quest) they would likely be hunted down, because of how dangerous it is considered to be etc. I would suggest reading up on it, I am 99% sure sounsyy summarized it somewhere.. If I find it I'll come back and link it here (unless I am beaten to it)
  3. Every new person is precious! Welcome aboard
  4. Which is also why I specifically asked from the viewpoint of a common man, since that is where I and most of the social circle I RP with are around. Weird things may happen, but it usually only happens once and to not many people in the whole universe, yet ends up having consequences for many - my discomfort with the fantasia roots in that if I allowed myself to do that, I just imposed onto the universe that changing your entire looks into another race or gender, which then would affect how the world works in general. That is something I am not comfortable with because I do not consider Eorzea to be my universe, I regard it as belonging to the loredevs who sit and write all of the amazing storylines. I do also consider it to be up there on the weirdness factor, but I think that's more because it leads me to imagine how a whole society of shapeshifters would even work. Again, there's no stopping someone who really wants to do it, which isn't the point here either.. I heavily doubt anyone (sane) would like to attempt to police RP - but it gives me something I can refer to when people question my views, which (hopefully) will not result in everything spontaneously self-combusting during the course of the conversation. I'm also not saying there's anything wrong with different views, I just wanted to illustrate why it is I and potentially others get uncomfy around stuff like that.
  5. Using fantasia in RP confirmed to be lore breaking. I know this won't stop anyone. But it's good to see a dev response to justify keeping it out of my own RP circles and ignoring it, rather than just rely on sound reasoning. This was admittedly my main motivation for asking. I have been in a lot of heated talks because people feel personally attacked etc. when their fantasia is not acknowledged. Having something to refer to from a more official source than my own musings might quell those arguments before they even start. Especially because I don't actually ever intend to go about passing judgement on people like that, I just am not comfy roleplaying with fantasia in it's various incarnations - even if it's lighthearted and fluffy.
  6. I have no idea if the tumblr-OP uses the RPC, but I am not seeing a thread for this. Direct link: http://nunhofthat.tumblr.com/post/120660441264/as-i-mentioned-a-few-days-back-im-in-japan In summary, awesome person visited their brother in law who works for square. They had lunch with parts of the localization team and were given the opportunity to ask some questions - they took in questions via tumblr a while back. I figured people here might enjoy the read
  7. Haydn'to: (sidenote: I'm pretty sure that guy is stealing the wallet with a pair of chopsticks?? )
  8. Welcome aboard both of you
  9. Welcome aboard I hope you have fun here.
  10. I will try to be there Great idea.
  11. I want the hempen camise for female midlanders, but for my Highlander female. Without losing the bonda- I mean. The current look of said top.
  12. Quoted for truth No need to put shirts on. Especially not in Ul'dah! Gets all warm and stuff.
  13. For the past 7+ years I've been experiencing my feet going sore after relatively little activity, 3-4 hrs of walking for example. I finally decided to tell a family member about these woes, and they reveal that they have footsies problems too. They tell me a place to go to, which takes prints of your feet and figure out if you have any symptoms for foot problems. I went there today and the whole thing took like 15 mins.. TLDR: I have high arches. I got insoles for my shoes and they help a lot. It wasn't even that expensive. It's a good thing I finally got it sorted. It has been an issue for so long that I thought this was /normal/ - it wasn't until last year that I slowly started to realize that other people do not have THAT sore feet after so little activity.
  14. I love Val's stuff. It was a secret but now it isn't anymore
  15. I do not know how active or big these groups are but, if you click here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15&filtertf_srvr=Other Some servers have their own RP groupings, like famfrit and Lamia. I imagine tossing a PM or rolling a test-alt there for the purpose of contacting the people who run them would be the best way to go about it
  16. I've had it on repeat for a few hours. I am pretty sure she sings "the life you were bestowed", it's just a slightly quirky "were".
