  1. I have an open linkshell slot as well, and would be more than happy to help
  2. Most people have already touched on pretty much all the ways I would approach things, especially with the OOC communication with IC relationships. I myself tend to avoid IC relationships because I don't necessarily trust others, and I try to keep these relationships to only those that I do trust or have known for a lengthy period of time. One thing I always suggest for people to do is that if they find themselves becoming too involved and the line starts to blur, take a break. I think it's okay to tell the other person/people/whatever that you need some time away to disconnect yourself from that and remind yourself that it's just IC. I really can't stress enough how important communication is. As the above poster stated, making assumptions that all is well is a fast way to a problem, and it should be perfectly fine to bring it up to that person and simply tell them your thoughts on the matter. In fact, Val can be a bit of a prick OOC and I feel the need to message random people he's mean to in order to apologize to them and tell them that I'm not like that x_x
  3. Yeah, it's pretty rough. I remember seeing his first Halo video back before Rooster Teeth ever became popular and it floored me. RIP. The industry lost a real talent
  4. Pretty much this for me. All of my characters will just age up a year based on their individual birthdays!
  5. Val totally taught himself how to write. And it shows.
  6. I can't really say I've regretted anything my characters have done. Well, Melfice has done some pretty horrid things to some characters, and I certainly felt bad for it at the time, but that's.. just how he is. I didn't really regret it, though. I tend to feel remorseful when Val is unnecessarily mean to some people, but they tend to realize it's just IC and see that it's part of his annoying charming personality. Aside from that.. well. I recently killed a character off because he wasn't getting a lot of RP despite going out in public and trying to interact with others, and I didn't feel the need to keep him. I miss him already ;-;
  7. Val rarely ever flirts. He's too barbarous and tends to just tell the woman they're attractive or blatantly ask for intercourse. When he does try to flirt, however, he does so mostly to seduce and therefore only does it with his significant other. At that point, he flashes that cocky grin of his, whispers a few things that he knows will make her blush, then closes the deal with an offer once he realizes they're thoroughly enthralled. Cyrus doesn't flirt anymore because he's dead. I think he'd be too shy/bashful to do it if he did. Melfice doesn't like physical contact, and so he generally doesn't do it either. If he does, it's because his Mistress has enticed him in some way and he just commands what he wants out of her. Vallois is too filled with angst to do so otherwise, and spends most of his time worrying about where his next meal will come from. He'd probably offer a pretty smile to a lady if it meant she'd feed him for the night.
  8. I have a character that is a refugee from Ishgard, but he's pretty much indisposed at the moment. You're still welcome to add me for RP at any time
  9. Quoted for emphasis. This is Final Fantasy. Realism grossly undersells what heroic characters are capable of in this setting— choosing to roleplay mundane combat is a choice to depict a weak character for the setting. The argument here is whether or not our characters are as powerful as those characters depicted or not. In every RP community I've ever been in, it's assumed that characters that are in the main story/quests/whatever are far beyond what our RP characters are capable of.
  10. It /is/ Lizard Squad, but they're little more than some bored script kiddies trying to make themselves known and being douches. Finest Squad caught them and Anonymous has apparently decided that they'd try to find the rest of them, too. Hopefully it won't be an issue for much longer.
  11. I'M SORRY BRO. Val's a selfish bastard
  12. Val's entirely in it for Faye. Aside from that, he's in it for himself.
  13. I think if you encounter anyone who tries to guilt trip you as a player into anything you don't want to do - whether it be ERP or Poly related or not - that is the moment where you OOCly tell them you're no longer comfortable RPing with them and block them. People like that are not worth the trouble and they probably have other motives for pursing the RP that they are - not to mention the rampant IC/OOC mixing that will probably happen. I agree with this 100%. If at any point you or anyone else becomes uncomfortable with something, speak up and tell them. If they refuse to acknowledge or apologize for making you uncomfortable, or continue with it regardless, you are well within your rights to block them and never speak to them again. There are certainly some creeps around in the community--I've seen and heard tales about them. Throwing them on the blacklist is the quickest way to rid yourself of them.
  14. There are people that use plot devices of ALL kinds as an excuse to eventually find a way to ERP. As she said, if people just want to ERP each other all day, is it really doing anything to hurt you so long as they do it in privacy? As others continued to state, this thread is certainly to help people RP it well and open a general discussion on it. I believe that it can open someone's eyes to see it as not a necessarily bad thing so long as the people enjoying it are happy, and is certainly something for people to try if they're considering it IRL and are closeted to the idea otherwise. Mod note by FreelanceWizard: Removed some quoted text that I excised from the thread.
  15. ... I'm not understanding, I think. How so? I'm still VERY new/rough on the lore, so be gentle. Well the seeker arrangement is more of a societal thing. It's not about love. If one nunh is stronger, they're in charge, the ladies don't get to vote. Though they can leave with the defeated Nunh, this seems rare. Keeper relationships seem more based on romance and personal connections. #also thanks freelance, even though you give me so many warnings I still <3 you! I think, like you said, it's more about society. But it also, to me, seems about duty. Kind of an "everyone for the tribe" so-to-speak. It doesn't mean that the Nunh or tribe as a whole don't respect their women. After all, the women do their hunting and whatnot. They likely know that without them, they wouldn't exist and wouldn't be able to continue their tribe. I feel like it's not only a duty, some tendency for this may be built into their DNA. Not just any male Miqo'te can become a Nuhn, it's not just a political title. He should represent the best breed and offer the best combination of physical and intellectual behaviors. This makes the Nuhn the most reasonable person to breed with as it helps ensure the next generation carries those traits. This could also mean that while many Miqo'te females may have relationships with others, with outsiders, that when it comes to breeding she may look for qualities that may or may not be shared with her current romantic partner. But I'm just speculating. But polyamory suggests a mutual love based relationship but I don't necessarily feel like that's what's going on when I visit the U-Tribe. That all seems more like a business relationship. For all I know, they draw straws for breeding or play lottery. I have no idea. But I don't think that romantic love plays all that much of a part. However, there is more than one kind of love. Love of family, love of community, love for each other, and those might play a much larger role and could be a sort of foundation for polyamory but that's probably a stretch. This is all just my opinion and interpretation, of course. I agree entirely! Val has it ingrained in his system. He is deathly in love with Faye, but he occasionally has private moments where he fights with his natural instinct to procreate and his loyalty to stick with just Faye. I personally enjoy it and embrace it as character development. For most though, like you said, I think that it's a business relationship and that the Keepers are more love-oriented, and therefore more likely to practice polyamorous relationships.
  16. This is a really good point. I've never thought about it but Keeper's would seem to be more Polyamorous than Seekers. ... I'm not understanding, I think. How so? I'm still VERY new/rough on the lore, so be gentle. Well the seeker arrangement is more of a societal thing. It's not about love. 17. As a NIN, my heart breaks anytime I see this. I also got into a pug with a NIN that never kept up the attack speed buff on herself and every mudra cast had a noticeable 2 second delay. It was aaawfuuuul. The healer had higher threat than this person did the entire dungeon.
  18. Sounds fine to me! It is, after all, how the economy works 8-)
  19. But the RP community as a whole is INCREDIBLY small. A great deal of RPers know other RPers, or at least know of those RPers through other people. Us not doing it isn't going to do anything for the community. To be honest if I had a plot to sell and someone offered me a bunch of gil for it (unless I knew them well), RPer or non-RPer, I'd sell it. Why not? I only have to gain for it and no one else is paying for my subscription but me. Since the property would belong to myself or my FC, I think it's all fair. In fact, if the FC is selling the plot, I think that's even more incentive for them to sell it. Fill the FC's coffers with the profits to further supply the house that they'll inevitably upgrade to.
  20. See, now that actually makes no sense whatsoever. SE's housing system is their thing, and we don't have a lot of direct control over it. The practice of RPC members charging other RPC members to let them be there when they relinquish their house is a thing. It's our thing. You can't look at it and say it simply is, as if we had nothing to do with it. It's part of our culture as RPC members. Part of our identity now. It's our thing because we choose to make it so. I'll totally give you a discount on RP, though, Kage. 50% off my normal rates, because I like you. I think it's as other people have pointed out here, honestly. It's just the way economics works. It's a commodity that is rare and people are willing to pay an expensive price for it. It's not unlike other questionable markets in the world: if no one wanted it, there would be no one paying gil for it and it wouldn't be a thing. The fact that people pay money for it means that it's at least coveted enough by an amount of people to uphold it. If people would stop paying for it, people would stop trying to sell it. Is there something wrong with it? I don't know. It's not for me to really judge. I just feel it's supply and demand at work.
