  1. Kingkiller is pretty good so far. I think I enjoy the first novel a lot more than the second for whatever reason. The second seems to be a bit slower? I'm nearing the end and I just don't think I'm nearly as interested in it as I was the first. With the first, I read nightly (with a hedgie pal) and finished it pretty quickly. This one I tend to read every other night or so and I'm not nearly as intent on finishing it off.
  2. I'm a pretty big Dresden Files fan :v mostly because it's like a more adult Harry Potter, imo, with a lot of pop culture references. I met the author, Jim Butcher, at Dragoncon last year. He's a pretty cool dude. I've read all of the Witcher books because I'm a nerd, and they're pretty good too if you're into it. Lately I've been reading The Kingkiller Chronicles (Name of the Wind, Wise Man's Fear) and they've been pretty good too
  3. Val isn't really much of a Nunh anymore. The character has grown a great deal, and while he's still mischievous and doesn't hold much respect for most people, he's engaged and has learned to at least carry on a conversation (even if a small one) without offending someone. ...Sometimes. Maybe. Either way, I welcome the challenge with open arms Any interaction is nice!
  4. I'd be down for some RP sometime! Val had a similar upbringing and I made his tribe pretty.. well. Tribal. He may not be the nicest of people, but he's willing to chat with others and I imagine they have a decent amount in common. I have other characters too, so if you're looking to get into contact with another Miqo'te let me know
  5. Depending on what you have planned or want to happen, I have two or three characters that may be willing to be involved as well!
  6. Heya! I have a character that works with another Mafia-type organization that would likely be interested in getting involved! I have a few others that may need the connections of said Mafia-esque people to get information and supplies. If you're interested, hit me up on here or in game sometime !
  7. Ayyyy you know I'm always down for RP Just hit me up!
  8. I have a couple of characters that would fit this Val is looking for more work, and another character I have, Cyrus, also fits the bill. I'd be happy to RP with you on either of them! While not a bodyguard, Melfice is also interested in knowledge and lore and whatnot and doesn't mind gritty things. Really, all of them would be willing to fit the bill and I absolutely love the idea of more realistic-based RP. If you want to chat more about it, feel free to hit me up on here or in game (I'm usually on Val) and I'd be more than happy to elaborate on any characters
  9. Seconding that OOC connection is a major part, especially getting into Linkshells/FCs. Most of what I've observed is that if you emote out in the open you're likely only going to get people that are interested in banging your character. The only people I've seen just getting walk-ups tend to be female characters, and that's usually for the same reason. Even the few male walk-ups I've had have only been interested in trying to sleep with whatever character I'm on at the time, which is admittedly disheartening. Most of it, of course, is because those people looking for that sort of thing don't tend to crowd linkshells that aren't catered to it, so they're the only ones standing around the open looking for things. Those that are either RP in their FC house almost exclusively or in unannounced areas for linkshell stuff. The result can be pretty disheartening, especially if you're actually looking for open world stuff. Sadly, I don't think this is going to be the game/community to foster it at the moment--if ever, with people breaking off to do things on their own. It's not a bad thing, of course. People are welcome to do whatever they wish. I can just see how it could turn away others.
  10. Combat revamp. Please, for the love of god fix the awful GCD.
  11. ngl I totally went into it expecting it to be sub-par. I don't know why. I'll admit I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan. I enjoy the games and such, but I've never been 100% into the movies and world/lore or anything like that. That being said, Rogue One is probably one of the best I've seen. I like that it was far more down to earth than the other series. Doing so seems to give more of an emotional impact. I didn't expect anything like that when I went into it, and I almost skipped it, but man I'm so glad I went. @Warren I agree that the Vader neck/helm thing looked weird. I loved the character and all the scenes he was in, but I couldn't stop looking at it when I saw it.
  12. Oh, The Raven can keep quiet and would work for such people so long as the pay is good! I've been wanting to get her these kinds of connection too! Sounds great I'll try to catch you on sometime and see if they can meet up, or we can discuss possible connections/whatever anytime you'd like!
  13. Depending on how far she is willing to go as The Raven, I have an alt that could talk to her/be a link, provided she is capable of keeping a secret! He works for what is, more or less, a mafia-type organization and I imagine they would tap a resource for information and assassinations often when they don't want to get their hands dirty, themselves
  14. I feel like the fact that they're RPing lore breaking Sues in the first place kind of takes away the "awesome roleplayer" thing, myself. If they were great/amazing, they wouldn't be doing it in the first place, or at least would know how to roleplay that without making it awful. That's part of what makes a good roleplayer a good roleplayer. Granted, it's largely opinion, but that's how I feel on the matter.
  15. I'd say not to worry about people having trouble finding groups for lower level things. One of the base designs of this game is "If there aren't many people doing x, give them a reason to." Atma weapons solved the FATE problem the story mission made droves of people run Qarn when no one wanted to. If it becomes an issue, they'll make the next legendary mission require X amount of low level dungeons (like they've done once/twice already with books and light) or improve the awards, like someone mentioned earlier. While I absolutely loathe this kind of game design, it certainly can be useful for those still coming up.
  16. From how I've looked at it, there's two different ones you can currently buy. One is a story jump that puts you at the beginning of HW, and the other is a level jump. Both give you a discount based on how far the character already is in story and levels. Source - FFXIV SE Forums
  17. Pretty much like others have said, I don't think the player base can get any worse than it already is. The entire 1-50 game is meant to teach people how to play. Hell, that's why half of the systems are even in the game to begin with, not to mention mentoring programs and other stuff, and players are still absolutely awful. If the introduction of jump potions makes it any worse, it can't be by much, and at this point if you're not unsyncing content or running with people you know, chances of clearing end game stuff are already abysmally low (in my experience, at least). I say do it. People (and SE) will profit more from being able to skip/jump levels if they want.
  18. Pretty much everyone here has already stated what I wanted to, but I'll just add to it. Any tired trope can be given new life if you can roleplay it well or throw a unique spin on it. In fact, as many people have mentioned before, the character is in the roleplay, not the backstory. Their history can certainly shape how they feel and act, but as a writer/roleplayer, you have the ability to really breathe a unique, fresh sense of life and perspective into that "tired trope." As Warren mentioned, find a few things that you're really interested in and works for you and just go with it!
  19. I thought the game was a nice taste of what a FF sandbox could be. I've had other friends ask me about it and I've told them that they'd probably be disappointed. If you're going into the game looking for a robust story, tons of character development, and a unique Final Fantasy experience, you're... not going to get it? But the gameplay is fine. It's fun, even! The game's story just plays a lot more like a movie than it does a FF game. People that have never played the series will probably not care, but.. anyone that has can see what they'd intended the game to be. Certain characters that are very well designed, more so than just your average NPC, either contribute nothing to the story at all or are only there for like two scenes. Characters that feel like they'd have once been very important to the story are cast aside. You never explore any of the character's back stories. As a game, it's fine. As a story, it's okay. As a final fantasy story? It's... eh. And the whole Kingsglaive thing? I thought it was a neat side thing, but I honestly wish they would have just allowed the movie to be more gameplay. ...Then again, the whole thing feels like it was just a bit of a rushed side project to give some sort of back story since absolutely none exists in the game itself.
  20. 1.) Mogstation outfit 2.) Fenrir Pup 3.) Sophic Barding Thank you so much for doing this!
  21. You're going to get the "It's a miqo'te so they must ERP" stigma, but just play what you enjoy. Prove them wrong by diversifying yourself from all the horrid Miqo'te RPers and show them that you're better than that. Don't let it stop you from doing something you want! Some people may still inevitably write it off, but generally you can tell within the first few posts if someone is blatantly seeking ERP or if they're genuinely interested in RPing with you.
  22. Hey there! Val and Miya seem to have a decent amount in common, but also enough difference that could make things interesting! He was also displaced from his tribe at a relatively young age and was forced to travel alone and make it on his own. Like Miya, it eventually became mercenary work, but he had enough training and practice within his tribe to make it happen. The character has been around for a while--since the game released--and since he's changed a good bit, going so far as to find a significant other and settle down. I imagine he could offer Miya some help and likely sympathize with her situation, having many hungry nights on his own before he finally found his place. One thing to mention is that he's not a particularly nice character. Rather, he can be nice to people, but he's also a bit of an ass until he gets to know someone. He also has a bit of a temper! At any rate, if you're interested or want to know more about him, feel free to look him up on the Wiki and send me a message in game I'd be happy to RP sometime!
  23. SE has almost always been horrible with distribution. It's par for the course at this point.
