Maybe it's an FC who's moving but they've leveled up a second FC to buy a house with, so they don't have to demolish the first one, just in case they don't get their new house. One of my alt's FCs is doing this, that way if we don't succeed in getting the medium we want, we won't be screwed out of having a house at all.

Spellguard VII draws to a close, and a new champions rise! Congratulations to Gogonji and the Masked Mage (Annunu Nunu)! Also, I would like to make a statement and apologize if anyone who's participated in Spellguard has been made uncomfortable by fellow spectators and combatants over the past two events. I've had a word with the disruptive parties, and the Spellguard team is looking into ways to ensure that everyone has a good time in the future. The Spellguard team is currently small and somewhat inexperienced in running events like this (relative to those that have been running for years, anyway) so we're learning how to handle these sorts of issues as we go. I want to foster a lighthearted event that's friendly and fun for most everyone, and I appreciate everyone who attends week after week and contributes to the spirit of the event.

Spellguard begins in two hours! Hope to see you good folks there for some cooperative spellslinging!

Spellguard VII is this Friday! I made a bit of an error in the OP which read that the date of the next tournament is the 28th, when it's actually the 27th. I've since fixed it, sorry if it confused anyone!

It's at 1:29:40 or something close to that. It's the blue wyvern taken by FFXI's dragoon pet model. EDIT: (Granted, I still think FFXI's cuter. But that's the FFXI-DRG-main in me talking). IT'S EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED IN LIFE OH MY GOD The first time I ever saw the baby dragons in Anyx Trine I literally, actually cried. I was so excited to see them there doing all the same animations and everything. (I played XI too and I like XIV's better, but only because their slightly different design is more cohesive with the other dragons in the game) I need, like, twenty. I suppose they're probably from the new beast tribe quests? Guess I better get to crafting... T_T

Ohhhh shit!! Shoshopu absolutely has to have that Vanu Vanu outfit!! What's that about a wyvern minion? What's the timestamp for that? I have neither the time nor the bandwith to try and watch the whole thing and find it. (At least not until much later today T_T)

I love all three of the starters!! Fyrilsunn and I both really like the Rowlet the most, though, but since we can't both pick the same one (why? because), I'm gonna make him get Litten since he usually gets fire types anyway At least we both don't like the same legendary the most so there's no fuss over which one of us is getting which version. We both think the lion is really cool but he likes Moon's legendary more than I do so that's going to be our compromise, I think.

Sorry for the late post! I'm finally home! I'd like to thank Zigovali, Ralamano and R'miah for helping hold down the fort in my absence, and apologize if the flow of the event was occasionally bumpy! I appreciate everyone who came out and had a great night! At our next tournament on the 28th everything will be back on track! Screenshot courtesy of Ralamano, Spellguard VI's Spellguardians are... Jun'to Nharuya and Ver'svesh Preah!

Spellguard VI is on for tomorrow night at 10 PM EST! This week's event will be run by Shoshopu's partner Zigovali Rigovali, and possibly an officer or two of AW-RP. My brother and sister back home are graduating Saturday morning, so that means I'm going to be out of town on Friday, but Spellguard is being left in good hands this week!

I'd be afraid to share what plot I want because that would just make it a target! But on the other hand I'm kinda glad the prices are going down, because I only just barely had enough for the plot I wanted to begin with. Now I'll have a little bit of money left over to decorate with.

Orchestrion Canonocity: The New Argument
Shoshopu replied to Warren Castille's topic in RP Discussion
No need for that, we already have a derp that loves reinterpreting the WoL's adventures so that they sound ten times more badass (and difficult). I mean, that's exactly what Koji-Fox described anyway. -
I love this retrospective! Their episode on FFXI is actually what got my ex and I to start playing it, back in 2008-ish. It looked like so much fun, we just had to try it... I wouldn't have picked up FFXIV back at launch if I hadn't been craving something like FFXI again after we quit the game and then broke up. And then I wouldn't have picked it up again a couple years ago with my current partner if I hadn't still had the 1.0 CE laying around with an unused buddy pass. Now that I think about it, this retrospective was practically life-changing for me. I'll have to sit down and watch it in its entirety. Rest in peace, Gametrailers.

Spellguard V saw another previous champion rise to the top! Give it up for... Yisugei Tumet and Nira Rabntah!

Hey guys! Spellguard is on in 25 minutes, I'm just running a bit late getting home! It's still set to begin on time, and I aplogize for not already being out there. ;_;
-
Tonight is the night! Hope to see you all at Spellguard V! Depending on how late tonight's event runs, I might have to bow out before it actually ends because I have an early morning shift at work on Saturday. In that event, Shoshopu's brother Jujuwai Totowai will continue making the announcements and distribute the winnings!

Orchestrion Canonocity: The New Argument
Shoshopu replied to Warren Castille's topic in RP Discussion
They talk about orchestions and orchestrion rolls in Lorecast 7!! I thought of this thread and thought it was probably relevant. How do Orchestrion rolls work? Rather, what are these songs to the adventurers within the game? Do they hear the music during their fight with the Primals for example? Who is playing or singing it? Is this the Minstrel’s doing? KF: You know how they work mechanically, it’s kind of like a player piano; that’s why they have the rolls. You’ve got the parchment with the holes punched it in and you put it into the orchestrion and it plays the song based on where it hits the holes. Are we hearing them in battles? Nooo. It’s not some special effect of the Echo. Lore-wise, there are bards and minstrels and there is this wandering composer. He hears these stories about adventurers and their grand battles and he composes music. The music that he thinks up is on the orchestrion roll. F: And they just happen to turn up in a treasure chest in the Navel. KF: A lot of people like music in Eorzea. Not everyone has a place to put their orchestrion rolls. So it’s like, “I’ll just put it in this chest here! It’ll be safe!” and then some adventurer comes along and steals it and it’s like, “Oh, no, where’s my orchestrion roll!?” “I tilled fields for three seasons to afford that!” A: That’s what I joke about whenever armor is moved around. How does Darklight end up in this dungeon!? You know, people bought it from Rowena… and then they went out to raid these dungeons and… they died. KF: And then a monsters comes along like “Grrr. Adventurers leaving crap all over my dungeon…” F: “I’ll just collect it in this neat little pile, put it in this chest, clean up a bit.” -
Spellguard V is this Friday night at 10 PM EST! If Mr. Mask enters once again... do you have what it takes to topple (half of) the twice-consecutive champion (-ship team)?! Even if you don't plan on entering, you won't want to miss this one!

I mean, basically this?? I, at least, wasn't trying to suggest at all that alts should be weighted the same as mains (as all responses re: alts seem to infer), because the poll is mostly trying to estimate what you'll see out in the world any given day you log in, based on which character each person plays the most, yeah? I understand that. But just something to acknowledge alts at all would have been be nice, especially for people who have a hard time deciding which character is their 'main', or if their 'main' shuffles around a lot, because I know a couple people who sort of binge-RP a character for months at a time before switching to another one once something inspires them to do something with a different character. I understand that'd add a lot of length and complexity to the poll and that's why it's not there... I'm just putting it out there anyway. Feedback, you know? Maybe something to consider in the future, if anything.

I hope there's never a point that I'm not allowed to bump this thread
-
Now that I think about it, I'm mildly distraught that the survey mainly concerns main characters, although I completely understand why that is so and have no particular suggestions on including alt characters other than questions like "what's your second most played race"? Because while I main a lalafell, I also have four other roegadyn characters who aren't going to be represented at all, and I feel like race statistics are going to be a little skewed as a result.

I'm kinda confused how to answer the "romantic leaning" question when all the answers are sexualities... I answered as if they were "-romantic" instead of "-sexual" (i.e. heteromantic instead of heterosexual) but I wanted to point out that's an odd way to word that question. For example, one of my characters isn't into sex at all- she's asexual- but she likes boys romantically (cuddling and holding hands etc, more than-than-friends-like). For some characters the difference will actually matter.

I'm pretty sure "cycles" to mean "years" is one. I mean, cycles are used in Eorzean time terminology a lot, but usually in terms of "how many times does the elemental wheel spin during a day? during a month?" I've never heard a NPC use it to mean a year, and neither does this article use it for specifically a year. EDIT: Shitballs, you guys type really fast >_o While "cycles" to mean "years" isn't referenced in the link above, "bells" to mean "hours" is. Maybe it's a 1.0 thing, maybe NPCs occasionally use it. I'm pretty sure I've seen NPCs use the term.

https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Category:Class https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Category:Job That is exactly why I built the skeleton for those things on the wiki. (any user can technically do that too, so feel free to make links to any pages that should exist, so that they have markers to be fleshed out) Oh, good, I didn't know there were already pages for them! So that's a bit already done. Thank you. Specifically I was concerned with digging through Sounsyy's posts, and how she'd want to be credited for compiling the information in the first place- after all I figured I'd only be converting what she'd already compiled into wiki pages, you feel me? That's what I was gonna PM her about (but now it's out here so <_>)
-
I've been thinking a lot lately about it, actually-- about actually using the lore section of the RPC wiki and making some pages for the Jobs and the like, and if Sounsyy would be okay if I basically sifted through her posts and cited them (and her own citations of course), because they're always so thorough!... I intended to send her a PM about it or something once I figured out exactly how I wanted to ask it but this thread happened first Aside from being hung up on how I wanted to phrase my PM to her down to the letter before actually sitting down to type it (and that's why I have a hard time reaching out to people orz), I also have a lot on my plate both RP-wise and IRL and I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to finish what I started once I started it. But I guess wikis are supposed to be collaborative anyway, right? Maybe once I (or someone else) started something other people would jump in too? I'm sorry, this post was very scattered and stream-of-consciousness style, my brain is just fried from work today and seeing this thread made me want to convey my thoughts anyway

I voted Job because Shoshopu is still (ostensibly) my main, but my characters are as follows: Shoshopu is an IC summoner Awyrbyrt is an IC lancer, and specializes in mounted combat Dyrstswys is an IC... astrologian? Maybe it's more like a self-created class??? She uses a starglobe-like thing but it's more for maritime navigation and the like, because that's her job. It's like a magical aether-powered octant or sextant, basically, and it's a focus for healing magic, as well. Her older sister Merlgeim is just an arcanist The never-played Lahzlona is just an archer And Eaubront is... well, he... just swings a one-handed sword around... and sometimes holds it with both hands. He doesn't use a shield and he doesn't aether, he just tries to hit things and be fast enough to not get hit himself. There's not really an ingame class or job analogous to what he does, currently, but OOC he's a paladin because that's the only one-handed sword class there is ,__,
