You trade them in for gear in Illdyshire (Alexander) or Rhalgr's Reach (Deltascape). If you don't need the gear or seals from turning in the gear at your GC, then just trash 'em.

Just wanted to address this question since I don't think it was really answered - There is a big difference between what you are out of character (An omni-crafter with all Disciple of War/Magic Jobs at 70 for instance) vs. what you define what you are in character (Say, a weak merchant that dabbles only in weaving and thaumaturgy.) No one is going to look at your levelled jobs, your Grand Company rank, etc. and base your character on that. It's what you roleplay and write your character to be. For example, I can roleplay on my Astrologian at an RP event for two hours, turn off my RP tag when it is finished then go queue up in a dungeon as a Dark Knight. People can choose when they are In-Character or Out-of-Character at their leisure, and you'll find that no one is ever constantly IC. I remember when I started RPing for the first time on FFXIV (my first MMO), that I was surprised that people had 'Roleplay Outfits'. They didn't just walk about in their full raid gear. They wore what their character would wear, and it was pretty easy to recognise who was a PvEr and who was an RPer. It's even easier to recognise roleplayers now with the RP tag. If you're ever unsure, do what I did and just... lurk. Politely, of course! Standing around in the Quicksand (a big hub for walk-up RP) or going to a public RP event is a good way to observe how people /emote and such and get a feel for how to write in-game, how to approach and interact with others ICly. Take it slow, and I'm sure you'll make friends and good roleplay. I wish you luck on Mateus!

Assuming you play on Balmung, there's groups like the Watcher's Eye (I think that's what its called???) and Ebonguard for crimey wimey stuff. Just take a look at the Linkshell/Free Company clubs here and see if any tickle your fancy. But in essence, finding darker/criminal RP is the same as finding any old RP. Reach out to characters and roleplayers of similar tastes. Join discords, linkshells, and free companies to make your connections pool larger and have access to plots. Post a LFRP ad for your elezen and the potential criminal hooks and see if anything comes forth from that. It's not too hard at all if you look and ask around o/

^ It is. I visited Mateus on an alt recently and it had a familiar buzz of activity like Balmung does. I'd make an alt on Mateus during non-peak hours instead of transferring if I were you, since we have no idea when Balmung is going to open again and you might regret losing that character slot. Either way, my friends have fun over on Mateus and have no trouble finding RP, so go for it!
-
Omega is technically meant to be the EU RP server but honestly, I've not heard much activity from it in a long while. As an EU roleplayer myself, I would recommend staying on Balmung for now and make an alt on the other servers to find out whether it's worth transferring off Balmung (since... once you do, you're very likely unable to get back on for a LONG while due to them closing transfers and character creation.) I have a feeling that the RP community is going to be a lot quieter on the likes of Omega and other EU servers and more difficult to get into/find, and if RP is your main goal, it can be quite disheartening. Balmung may be NA and yes, sometimes scheduling can be hard, but I found it worth staying just for the sheer amount of RP here. I literally only play to roleplay and I've never thought to leave Balmung. Just my two cents!

You're literally on the RPC forums right now, which has resources in the main navigation menu to find free companies and linkshells. The FFXIV tumblr community also thrives if that's your cup of tea, and there's plenty of discords to find and co-ordinate RP. Being reluctant to find RP because it might be a bit too 'fluffy' for your liking is shooting yourself in the foot before you've even started. You're barely skimming the surface of what Balmung has to offer. Look, browse, and join things on a whim. Try things out until you find something that clicks. There is plenty of RP to be had if you go forward and just... use your eyes. I can link resources at a later time when I'm not on mobile.

A gathering of Xaela - family and friends are invited to Reunion to celebrate the arrival of the Lunar New Year. Many festivities are planned, with plenty of drinks, dancing & a Buuz Eating Competition - the winner will receive a character portrait from Hixxi! Notes: Reunion welcomes ALL tribes and non-Xaela. Please dress in formal tribal attire. No fighting or hostility will be tolerated as per Reunion rules. When? 24th February at 4pm EST/9pm GMT Where? Reunion, Azim Steppes Server? Balmung Contact Oyuu Dataq/Ajir Qalli for more information. We look forward to seeing you there! Join The Game of Dawn Thrones Discord for more Xaela roleplay news and shenanigans. What is Tsagaan Sar? One of the most important holidays for Mongolia, Tsagaan Sar is a holiday that celebrates the end of winter and serves to welcome a flourishing new year. It is the Year of the Dog this year. It is actually celebrated on the 16th February, but we’ll be hosting on the 24th for organizational reasons. Families gather to renew and solidify ties, particularly between young and old, and to repay debts and resolve disagreements. People dress in traditional clothes, tell stories that transmit traditional knowledge, consume traditional dishes, play games, and practice customs that reinforce Mongolian identity, solidarity, and continuity. We wanted to bring this tradition to the world of Xaela, bringing together tribes from all over the Azim Steppe to put aside grievances and celebrate peace whilst welcoming the New Lunar Year. What will the event feature? First and foremost, it will mainly act as a celebratory gathering where Xaela and non-Xaela who wish to come to Reunion to mingle and wish each other a Happy New Year. We expect people to dress up in their best formal/tribal attire, and there will be plenty of food and drink to keep everyone happy. Plenty of opportunities to meet new people and meet up with acquaintances, a guaranteed good time! It’s a common tradition to eat a LOT of Buuz dumplings at Tsagaan Sar, so we will be hosting a Buuz Eating Competition some point during the event! Participate to fill your belly and potentially win a portrait from Hixxi at hixxiart.tumblr.com, examples of her work here and here! Any things we should know before coming along? Xaela and non-Xaela alike are welcome! If your character can visit the Azim Steppes, they are most certainly welcome to come along and celebrate with us. Please dress somewhat formally. If you are a Xaela, we encourage you to go wild with your fabulous tribal flair! No hostility or fighting between tribes will be tolerated, as per rules of Reunion. The event will be hosted by Ajir Qalli and his friends within Reunion and is not tied particularly to any tribe. Just bringing family and friends together in a peaceful setting!

When my FC was actively recruiting after the lockout, we were still getting a decent number of apps - probably one of our better campaigns tbh. I still have a really long list of people I would like to RP with, and meet new people on tumblr, the RPC, and in-game everyday. I filled all eight character slots before it was closed, so I've never felt the need to make new characters on different servers. So to answer your questions, I've not been heavily affected by the Balmung lockdown at all. All my friends stayed on the server and I've not been struggling to find roleplay, nor do I feel the community's activity has dropped at any noticeable rate (granted, I don't hang around the QS all that often, but new FCs and LSs spring up all the time.) I won't drop RP activity unless my RL situation affects it. And I can't give an opinion on how SE should deal with it because I am not educated enough on server capacity and the like.

Glad it helped! I wouldn't say server canon is like taboo or anything, it just hasn't really... happened? At least, it's definitely not prominent in my roleplay, if I'm understanding it correctly. We have server wide public events and stuff like that, but nothing more than like markets, balls, parties, and tournaments. That kinda thing, one offs that usually have little impact and are simply a fun time. Most people will include a short url for their wiki or bio in their search info, and most people emote the whole 'currently reading a book' thing if they are looking for walk up RP. SE added a RP flag for us to use when we are IC, so that is a good indicator that someone is probably wanting some RP action. ^^ One more thing, custom emotes are a different command in FFXIV to WoW, FFXIV uses /em or /emote... I can't remember what WoW uses but I know some people still forget to change because of habit hehe.

1) How large/prevalent is the Roleplay community? It's pretty darn big and is spread across multiple servers. You'll find many WoW veterans like yourself, to people who are brand new to RP and MMOs entirely (how I started!) 2)I've noticed there aren't Official Dedicated Roleplaying servers, but that isn't exactly uncommon for MMOs. Which server(s) are the defacto RP servers to play on? Balmung is the unofficial RP server, but is currently locked for the forseeable future (no new/transferred characters.) Mateus is the next largest, then there are smaller communities on the likes of Omega (EU) and Jenova, etc. If you're big into RP, I would probably recommend Mateus for a new FFXIV player! 3) What is the Walk-Up or Pick Up RP scene like? Can't really answer this for Mateus as I don't play there, but on Balmung it's pretty big. Mostly centred around taverns (one in-game tavern called the Quicksand, think of Goldshire without the awful rep). On Balmung at least, there's a lot of open world RP and I've met random people RPing in the streets or in the middle of random zones. You'll probably find the same on Mateus! 4) (For those who know) Is there anything like MRP or TRP3 for FF14? Essentially user-addon Roleplay tools that are commonly used? (Also, in an unrelated note, are addons even allowed in the first place?) Sadly, add-ons are not really that big of a feature (parsers are technically not allowed, but you can use them if you don't use them to talk shit to other players in game). Most people indicate what kind of RP they desire by having a very small blurb in their search info (kinda like a hover tag? Something usually like "RPer. Has tattoos. May steal your pennies. /Send tell for RP!") 5) What external resources would you advise to look into for character/lore questions to help 'get up to speed' with the game's lore so I don't accidentally trod all over it? The RPC forums themselves are great place to ask questions, and Sounsyy posts are very reliable for correct and well put together sources of info. The best way to get up to speed from scratch is simply to play the game and immerse yourself in the story. You will quickly gain an idea for what kinda character you want to make, then from there you can research those particular themes/ideas for the character (e.g. you wanna make a healer catboy, so you look up conjury and miqo'te lore!) There is also a lorebook you can purchase from the SE store or find a PDF of somewhere. I would start with naming conventions, the world events, and maybe start looking into jobs you are interested in. Some job types have iffy lore about them, so if you wanna be cautious of this, I'd take a look at that. 6) (For those who know, PT:2) Is there any "Server Canon" that might help to be aware of? -- Server Canon is a byproduct of a lot of Roleplayers (and I mean a lot) all have intertwining stories, where their guilds and communities are so closely connected that it results in what amounts to be unofficial "Server Canon". I don't think there's much of a server canon at all? RP tends to revolve around guilds/free companies etc. and there's not a huge amount of collaboration to do this, sadly. It sounds kinda neat though! (I might be forgetting an example where it might have happened, or something obvious.) Hope this helps!

mateus New Xaela RPer LF Connections!
Oyuu replied to SapphireSkylines's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hey there! I run a Xaela RP discord server, the Game of Dawn Thrones, and we have a little Mateus crowd you might find some connections with. The Mateus gang might be able to offer linkshells/FC recommendations, or just RP in general! -
I've seen people questioning which server is the 'better option' for them cropping up a lot recently, and I wanna say this: You will not join a server and magically have roleplay handed to you right away, it will always take a bit of networking and looking to get some. Balmung is very large and has a lot of variety. It takes time to find the right niche, but once you do it's great. I have paved my own way here on Balmung over the years and have my fingers in many pies so to speak - but I had to put in a lot of effort to make those connections. I would recommend leaving a character on Balmung since, for the foreseeable future, there is no way to join this server. Once you've transferred, there's no going back for months, possibly a year or more. Smaller servers are more open-minded and eager to RP, but that's simply because it's slim pickings. The community is small, and the popular RP themes there might not be to your taste (I had this issue on Cerberus, the RP there was extremely casual and not what I was looking for.) I assume Mateus is more like Balmung than smaller servers like Jenova and Phoenix but I have never played there, I've heard good things though! You're already on Balmung, so that's one server down. You can easily make alts on other RP servers and see for yourself what they are like. If you want a larger community and more depth to your roleplay, I would recommend Balmung or Mateus. If you want something more personal but casual, I would try out a smaller server (take a look at the FC/LS halls here to see what servers actually have a RP community, they fade in and out over time so it might be hard to find one that is actually active.) My advice? Thoroughly test the waters, don't just stand around in the QS and decide because no one walked up to you that there's no RP for you to be had. Join an FC and some LSes, join discords (Balmung and Mateus have a few RP discords and linkshells, and plenty of RP FC/LSes! Can't speak for smaller servers, they are harder to keep track of and find.) Experiment and see what actually feels like a good home for you and your characters, deciding what is the 'best' server can't really be decided since it's very personal to every roleplayer. Wish you the best of luck!

Thank you very much for the feature! A great read. ^o^/ Ah, we had advertised a month or two in advance but I guess things slip under the radar. :C We will certainly be running another event in the future, and perhaps even in Eorzea as well as the Azim Steppes! Please stay tuned for more updates!
-
Thank you for the feedback everyone has given! In future, I think any events similar to this one will operate in the same way. Given that it's held in/near the Reunion where visitors have access to, and that the event itself is accessible lore-wise to audiences from outside the Steppe. For the most part, Hixxi and I wanted to generate roleplay in the Azim Steppes and just put on a fun, friendly event. And we succeeded! We had a huge gathering of Xaela and non-Xaela, and we would like to thank everyone who participated or spectated. We had twenty fighters, but it was Nachin Qestir who was named the Bökh Giant! Congratulations! It was a lot of fun to see all that gathered, danced and wrestled. Please look forward to the next event, coming soon to Balmung~ https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/339055972448469003/376871037390028800/ffxiv_11052017_181006.png?width=1441&height=604[/img]
