Whenever I write backstories, I like to be careful not to add too many details which stand out as possibly being "gimmicks", or details that are unnecessary to the story itself and just added in for a cool factor. A few things I'd suggest thinking over are: "What's the inspiration for having colour-changing eyes? Does it do anything for the story-telling aspect that simply saying she 'hulks out' can't already cover?" A character with an out-of-control rage streak would be pretty awesome, but another thing to consider on that note is how she killed seven men without so much as a scratch with casual training from her lover, who could not kill a single one himself. That might be a bit unrealistic, and it could contribute more to the story to have the deep-set angst and grief of not being able to avenge her dead lover, the hatred of self for being too weak at the time, inspiring her to go on and become a better fighter to kill evil men like that. I believe Pegasuses are also only found canonically in the Diadem, named such because the location was recently found and claimed "so beautiful, it was a Diadem fit for Gods". It's considered terribly dangerous and only accessible by airships, which does beg the question of how a brothel owner might get their hands on one.

Mateus's community is stronger than ever before and you can't move two feet without bumping into someone with a roleplaying FC tag now. While the community is smaller than Balmung, it's definitely noteworthy. Make an alt and run through some time, you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised. A good tip to note is that roleplay FCs like to have "___-RP" or "___:RP" as their FC tag, so they're very easily identifiable. It's by no means dead.

I'm not certain about the PVE community in Mateus but I've no doubts there's statics to be found or made. Currently, it's population for roleplaying has really hit full bloom with the aide of free transfers off world of Balmung, and I highly recommend giving it a look over and seeing if it has what you're looking for.

No one knows for certain, this is one of the least defined parts of miqo'te lore, meaning that there's a lot of room for interpretation. But I'd say that when boys become adults they are pushed out of the nest, yes; it seems to be the general idea of folks on the server. I also imagine since miqo'te women are very capable huntresses in lore, a donation from a male might be frowned upon unless courting, so selling would make sense.

Mateus is growing at a very healthy and steady pace, I highly recommend the server. People are also generally very welcoming and inclusive. Alternatively, Siren just became a Preferred World in case you're interested in a smaller community, with a leveling boost and other nifty bonuses to leveling over there. There's a little bit of roleplay everywhere, so finding a FC like Maril suggested is definitely a good idea to help you with your decision.

Glad to see Siren on that list, there's a few rokeplayers over there I know of that would really be excited by the potential boost in the roleplay population. Thanks for the update on this, I was about to level my Mateus character and would have been rather surprised by a lack of buffs (if that's the case)

How is my name not Lore Abiding? I'm tired of being told it isn't.
Perth replied to Mother's topic in Character Workshop
That's not what that word means. A xaela named after a ooc fox spirit is a pretty oocly idealised thing, if you ask me. Which is the definition of a Mary sue. But these are all just opinions, not facts. Conversely, I think naming someone after someone famous is just... normal. As I think it was mentioned earlier, wouldn't we all be Mary Sues if we have names from the bible? All your Joshuas and Johns and (literal) Marys are "Mary Sues" in this case. I lean towards Mary Sue-ism being less about the name of the character and more about the character itself in its abilities and forced importance onto the scene they are in. What their name is? Not so much. It could be an indicator of a Sue (comedic example: Maximum Edgelord McDeathmaster), but not always. Yeah, I don't think that one thing would title an entire character as a sue. Calling it a possible indicator is well-said. However, I suppose where the biblical name comparison doesn't quite match up is in that biblical names were bread and butter generic from the start and still are today, while you might be hard pressed to find someone who would go out of their way to name their child after the mythical fox spirit in real life, something like Amaterasu; commonality, I guess? Doesnt mean someone would never have done it, of course. Hard to describe. -

With the context finally given throughout the later pages of the thread, I wouldn't say the name is lore breaking. It's just ... Mary sue I guess? But whether or not that's a problem is for only you to decide. It's your money spent to name change or Fantasia, and even your own subscription, so don't worry too much about what other people think unless you really care about appealing to them. I can promise you more than half the people you'll roleplay with won't give a crap if you were named Heartjoker Bloodynoses, icly or not. -
The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Perth replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Okay, no, if you can’t keep hate as a main tank, you should not be using Sword Oath and main tanking. Or failing an attempt at it. You’re not being cool for trying to DPS more, you’re losing aggro to healers and DPS because you’re either not AOEing enough, or just unable to keep hate off of DPS who are AOEing the 20+ mob pull. Go retake the tutorials in the inns if you need to understand your role, I’m not going to keep quiet because your edgelording is repeatedly killing people, jfc. *Facedesks* Worst part is when it’s a Mentor -
Qestir RPpers: how do you handle communication?
Perth replied to Goodfellow's topic in Lore Discussion
Yeah, I'd say so! I felt like written word was "cheating" since they don't communicate for a reason (or rather, whatever reason they have culturally), and honestly... Having a Qestir and challenging myself to be fully expressive in emotes was one of the most efficient way for me to improve at my own emotes/writing, ever. -
Not really, my friends from Cerberus have been 2k queues as well and taking 2 hours to log in. Also Gilgamesh. Y'know, the other server that's considered congested, no one likes to talk about that one.

Given how incredibly, stupidly reckless Perth responds to dangerous situations, it's really a wonder she hasn't died at all yet. In fact, in the last three instances in which made the most sense for her to die, the only reason she didn't was due to friends clawing her out of her self-inflicted messes. With that in mind, also weighing in the fact that she's terribly dramatic and thinks she needs to do everything herself (something that drives those close to her up a wall)... She'll likeliest get herself killed trying to bite off more than she can chew. Maybe she thinks she's doing a friend a favour by confronting the man blackmailing them alone, only to have made her plans a bit too obvious and walk right in to a swift death. Or she finds more trouble on her own accord and can't be arsed to ask for help with it, only to find herself entirely overwhelmed. Or... Her bad decisions catch up to her. The secret organisation she feigns her death to lose the trail of finds her, and snuffs her out before anyone can blink twice. Or she killed the wrong kid, perhaps with ties to the influential and once they caught wind of her name or alias, decided to avenge their lost one. Death is never really expected in real life, unless someone's lying in their hospital bed and no progress is in sight. I'd like to think roleplay to be realistic is no different, and once a character has enough emotional sway on the characters around them, an abrupt and painful death can be great writing material for others. (I think the convenience of dying in front of an audience is rather trite, however. Why doesn't anyone ever fall off the edge of the earth for friends to piece together their fate? :la) And if a happy ending was in sight... Perth swallows her bitterness and settles down, marrying and having a family. She'd normally emit a sarcastic laugh at the suggestion, but it is an option that's been presented to her enough times, and definitely a possibility. Time will tell.

[video=youtube] Be warned the video is along a playlist link for the whole album - which is fantastic, might I add.

So... Wait. You're writing an essay on a server you've never been on, and then proceeded to compare it to and entirely different game community with different values (of which, with the competitive nature of the two servers compared on WoW, have very different views of one another), and then saying that the people who actually did spend the money to get on the big RP server should ignore that fee and come help a new server? They who invested money for something they wanted, that you did not? Don't get me wrong, I entirely support Mateus and even got a character over there myself. But this sounds... Like you didn't get what you want and you're trying to make others stop what they're doing and give it to you. Shaming and preaching obligation is a graceless way of asking for help. The blind aggression on the Discord communities of other servers towards Balmung folks isn't cute, either, nor does it positively encourage assistance from Balmung. I believe if you want to help you'll ignore the salt and do so anyways, but the blame game should be put to rest.

If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
Perth replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
No, they wouldn't, because every server is a raider/PVPer server. Since there's no such thing as open world PVP, there's no need to have a server designated for PVP being fully accessible. Similarly, anyone with a strong PVP focus does not play FFXIV, due to PVP being something of an after-thought. Additionally, since PVP is done through Duty Finder exclusively with every server in the Data center getting tossed in, there's not even a need for an "unofficial" PVP server (nor raiding for that matter) which is telling enough that no one would ask for these things anyways. That being said, I'd consider it. It would depend on how many people move. -
How I see my character. How my FC sees my character. How my friends see my character. How the community sees my character. (As if I know pff) Bonus: How Perth sees herself

This is really cool. I'll be implementing it to my Discord friends' channel immediately. Thanks for the time and work put into making this handy tool!

Ah, I really like it! It's great to see a character who's not perfect being roleplayed, and I read that he tried mugging someone - sounds like fun. Since he appears to be in the Shroud, if you'd ever like roleplay with me, I have a fledgling arcanist visiting family in the area to look for her half-sister. Feel free to hit me up some time, I also use Discord.

Alcoholic goth bitch actively tries to get herself killed in the most dramatic ways possible.

You can actually transfer them all at once if they meet the requirements - being able to transfer eight characters from a single server to Balming for the single transfer service can save you a lot of money in the long run if you intend to play alts!
