  1. Your English is very good for not being your first language! If you don't mind me asking, what is your first language? Great to see more xaela in the mix of things!
  2. Unless the separate pieces look like they might mesh well with other sets, I only see myself glamouring over the dps casting set and forgetting about it. The healer set looks like something I'd want in a heartbeat, though! Hope they're both dyeable at least. That might change my mind.
  3. I always loved animals and had an artistic interest, so when I started putting in job applications everywhere (pet services especially) and I actually got accepted for dog grooming, I was scared at first. But almost a year later, I wouldn't want to work anywhere else, really.
  4. Hey, welcome to Balmung! I always wanted to give TSW more than a fifteen minute try, but the character customisation felt limited at release when I first played so I found myself drifting off. If you're interested in similar dark, gritty themes and possibly in search of a Free Company, I'd suggest giving The Blackguard a look and seeing if it's your cup of tea. I'm also available for any leveling or general game mechanics you might have while you're getting cozied in to FFXIV. Good luck leveling! Edit: My phone posting is embarrassing.
  5. I actually like them platonically. A lot, in fact. I'd have to know the person and player if it's romantically just because of needing to understand the character I'm working with. I'd say it's semi-normal, I personally would highly recommend it if you were thinking of giving it a go.
  6. You must buy the game as well as the subscription, but leveling is not required for role-playing, just gives you more clothing and location selections! I suggest finding a server you want to play on (weighing the options of huge RP playerbase with transfer fee vs smaller rp community but no fees). That way, once you're kicking it in game, folks from the RPC can help you out in game wherever you choose to reside. That being said, there's nothing we won't answer on the forums!
  7. Honestly, consider that the frequent character changing might be what's not leading to many bites. A lot of people are driven off by the idea that a character they just roleplayed with yesterday that their own is slowly befriending is now replaced with an entirely new one every week. That was my problem for a while, even, and finally I just disciplined myself to stick with a character until it was dead. Suddenly, I was surrounded with contacts and friends for my characters. I'd like to roleplay with you if our times match up, but only if you intend to keep the character semi-long term.
  8. The others have the right of it. See if there's some truth to the rumours. Practice some self-awareness, ask some members. If there's nothing to worry about on the inside, don't worry too much about the outside. Roleplayers write drama as a hobby, some of them don't quite leave it to roleplay, however.
  9. Willow Evinar smells like: ... shampoo and harvest. I'm not sure what harvest is supposed to smell like, but I can dig it.
  10. AST is actually the only healing class that you don't need Conjurer levels to unlock. Yep, and honestly I'm not fond of that aspect of it. I've gotten my head bitten off a few times for pointing out a AST should probably go level CNJ for Protect, only to have the AST in question take it as a matter of grave insult against their amazing healing abilities. Mind, every time that happened said AST could hardly ever keep the party alive even post-buff but I digress. Reminds me of the Bismarck EX I did with another Ast who never used cards. Or any of her good abilities for that matter. Also didn't have swiftcast so when the new people dying to the mechanics happened I seriously had to carry her. I told her to get swiftcast asap and use her cards right before I exited and at the end of it all only for one commendation. :'(

  12. I adore miqo'te, and before I settled on Willow being a hyur, I played a miqo'te. I will always love them and advocate playing them. Consider this. At the end of the day, they're not paying your subscription and they're not the ones staring at your character 24/7, you are. So keep being an awesome cat girl. Rock it. We need more intriguing miqo'tes out there.
  13. Some people make it in Gilgamesh - I'd suggest just kind of looking around to test the waters over there before making the jump since you've actually managed to get on Gilgamesh (now just as hard to get on as Balmung) Edited because autocorrect on my phone is awful
  14. I keep seeing people post this in every thread this is brought up. I find this reaction to be mean spirited and contemptuous. And it doesn't seem to be in the spirit of role play. It's weird where people draw the line between "okay, I'll pretend your character is/has this, but if you say they are/have this I'm going to be derisive and try to make you feel bad. I'm pretty sure anyone who does this is not trying to hurt anyone, but instead offer a diplomatic alternative to rolling over belly up and accepting that there's one more of five Sultanas running around Ul'dah. The problem with role-playing in public places NPCs is that there's also more than one copy. So if you were to say, "Weren't you just shopping here yesterday?" They'd quickly say "No, I wasn't!" Or something to that effect. There within lies one of the biggest problems with not role-playing original characters. Not everyone's on the same page, so insisting someone has to deal with sorting out "Oh I'm talking to Minfilia C today, that was Minfilia A yesterday" isn't very fair. At the end of the day, no one's obligated to roleplay with anyone, period. And that's a good thing, honestly.
  15. The library and the site use the same login, there is no new accounts to be made unless you do it here in the forums. I think the problems you're having might be due to the underscore in your username since I've seen in the past certain symbols just don't work with it.
  16. Girl with spoiled upbringing has memory comparable to Dory from Finding Nemo and forgets all of her friends and adventures, reading about them in journals and clinging to the first person from her past she finds.

    Obsidian Coterie

Had our first job last night! Things took an interesting turn of events as some information was withheld and others were accused of stealing; all in all, a pretty good night.
  18. I did this with a past xaela of mine, though very sublty, so as it didn't seem burdensome to read. Some words would rarely get out of order or sentences just didn't sound right like "Where did you put book, I cannot find it." She had troubles with bigger Eorzea words, like "consequently" and would ask people to "put it to small words", oftentimes getting frustrated with herself for not being able to express herself like she might in her native tongue. She probably sounded very simple in Eorzean. Then one day, she spoke with a highlander who possesses the echo, and Sharn just let loose all these pent up words she's had since she left home.
  19. Congratulations on getting in! That was super lucky. If your character ever needs a conjurer or a few words of comfort, hit up Willow Evinar in game!
  20. Ear clasps should be perfectly fine, I always imagined those to be something of a stylistic choice than possessing a lore-based root. I sympathise with the decision, as my time messing around in character creation made me grow frustrated with how dark Duskwight lips on male models are regardless of how light and peachy the skin tone might be. I don't think anyone would be concerned, so long as you're willing to acknowledge that depending on the skin tones used they might be confused for being a Wildwood.
  21. It could depend upon how you made your elezen look, frankly enough. It's hard to make an ugly miqo'te, but it's not easy to make a pretty elezen. When I had my elezen though, I had frequent requests for roleplay from total strangers /because/ they are a niche interest and that appeals to people a lot with that niche interest. This did not happen with my miqo'te unless I was the outgoing person, likeliest because I looked like "just another miqo'te", which is totally fine! At the end of the day, figure out what race would best fit your character idea from a lore and back story perspective, and stick to it. Also, what Faye said is pretty spot on.
  22. What kind of character do you have? Are you interested in adventure, or mystery, anything like that? What kind of qualifications or special skills does your character possess? Info like that can really help folks hook you up with a new FC that suits your tastes
